06:13 PM zhanx: that was a bunch of tedious soldering
06:40 PM Tom_L: cloned that windows drive again to make sure it was current
06:40 PM Tom_L: installed it on the asrock Q1900 board
06:40 PM Tom_L: ran the drivers for the board
06:40 PM Tom_L: the 16bit programs work
06:50 PM Tom_L: i think that's what i did originally was to set this up on the asrock board then moved the ssd to the gigabyte board which is newer
06:50 PM Tom_L: but i don't think it likes to support 16bit software anymore
06:53 PM zhanx: if you have it working stop playing with it
06:53 PM Tom_L: now where's the fun in that?
06:53 PM zhanx: tomorrow i should know 100% if this keyboard matrix will work on the pi as a gpio keyboard
06:54 PM zhanx: well you have clones go ahead and kill them
06:54 PM Tom_L: :)
06:54 PM Tom_L: i'm still not messin with the main ssd
06:54 PM zhanx: i only have one pi so i am testing on arduino's I have lots of clones of them
06:57 PM zhanx: right now I am working on the scripting for it
06:57 PM Tom_L: so i'm ok with using the asrock board. i just had a gigabyte in the spare pc so the kid could use some cad software to practice
06:58 PM zhanx: since the pi is not the fastest thing in the world, i am scripting the services I want running for each thing. starting and stopping them as needed
06:58 PM Tom_L: i'll swap the boards back and just use it for my stuff like i was
06:58 PM zhanx: k
06:59 PM Tom_L: i think that guy with the tinkerboard is getting closer
06:59 PM Tom_L: i think he got the preempt-rt built and is now working on linuxcnc
06:59 PM zhanx: crap forgot to order some irf4905
06:59 PM zhanx: nice
07:02 PM zhanx: and ordered
07:03 PM zhanx: cheap from china but will save me battery power in the long run
07:04 PM Tom_L: i like these pico psu
07:04 PM Tom_L: was able to slap the board on the table, plug in the psu and run it from a 12v wart
07:04 PM zhanx: yea that is nice
07:05 PM zhanx: I am making sure to of course. have a charging/power outlet
07:05 PM zhanx: right now the only thing working is the power soft switch
07:31 PM zhanx: rue_mohr, Tom_L that soldering iron i got from amazon, gets super hot, lifted a pad on the first use of it
07:32 PM Tom_L: that's not good
07:32 PM zhanx: its adjustable
07:32 PM Tom_L: so you better turn it down some ehh?
07:32 PM zhanx: oh i did
07:32 PM zhanx: was surprised it got that hot being cheap
07:34 PM Tom_L: does it have a temp readout?
07:35 PM Tom_L: ok so it looks like the linux ssd is gonna have to live in the main pc
07:35 PM Tom_L: it's running preempt-rt and in the asrock the latency is too bad
07:35 PM zhanx: analog
07:36 PM zhanx: time to upgrade
07:36 PM Tom_L: upgrade what?
07:37 PM zhanx: everything
07:37 PM zhanx: cause why not
07:37 PM Tom_L: i just downgraded to get the 16bit software to work
07:37 PM Tom_L: so the linux ssd will fit in the main pc now
07:37 PM Tom_L: and i'll just have to deal with it
07:37 PM Tom_L: kindof a bitch trying to shuffle 4 keyboards & monitors on one desk
07:38 PM zhanx: i have a kvm switch for that
07:38 PM zhanx: granted I only have 2 monitors
07:38 PM Tom_L: i've got 3 decent ones and a crap dell on my work pc
07:39 PM Tom_L: the asrock will just have to sit on the file cabinet
07:40 PM zhanx: i don't have that much space till the weather breaks
07:45 PM Tom_L: why the hell did i install lilo?
07:45 PM zhanx: to verify you mbr was good
07:46 PM Tom_L: it's got a funky boot menu now
07:46 PM zhanx: which you never said anything about when we did it so something changed
07:47 PM Tom_L: no, instead of graphic it's a text box on boot up
07:50 PM Tom_L: i guess i can live with it
08:09 PM moonymoon: rue_shop1: HAY
08:10 PM zhanx: moonymoon, he was moving things around the shop
08:10 PM moonymoon: oh, thanks
08:11 PM moonymoon: he thinks hes cleaning up :P
08:11 PM zhanx: you left fast yesterday
08:11 PM moonymoon: yeah I was sleepy
08:11 PM moonymoon: hay maybe you can help me zhanx
08:11 PM zhanx: k
08:11 PM moonymoon: you c program?
08:12 PM zhanx: kind of, i am rusty
08:12 PM moonymoon: k, linux wise: whats the include I need for those type defs of Uint8_t or whatever they are called?
08:13 PM zhanx: math.h
08:13 PM moonymoon: hm
08:13 PM zhanx: and stdint.h
08:13 PM zhanx: or inttypes.h
08:13 PM moonymoon: ill have to do some other footwork here leme check man pages too
08:14 PM moonymoon: yeah its something types"
08:15 PM moonymoon: looking like stdint.h
08:16 PM zhanx: when in doubt use them all the compiler will only use what it needs
08:16 PM moonymoon: oh ok :)
08:16 PM Tom_L: you should go help him
08:16 PM Tom_L: so he has more time here
08:18 PM zhanx: yea moonymoon what Tom_L said
08:18 PM moonymoon: im still 100 miles away :P
08:19 PM zhanx: could be there in a hour and a half
08:19 PM moonymoon: pshhh and $200 later
08:39 PM zhanx: ok scripts done for apache server
08:55 PM rue_shop1: fixing game machien

09:13 PM rue_shop1: 8080
09:13 PM rue_shop1: https://www.thedefenderproject.com/other-arcade-games/space-invaders/building-a-midway-space-invaders-deluxe-test-harness/
09:13 PM moonymoon: oh wow
09:14 PM Tom_L: rue_shop1
09:14 PM Tom_L: it was the MB
09:14 PM rue_shop1: where are the schematics for this freaking thing
09:17 PM rue_shop1: http://www.brentradio.com/images/Other/Docs/SpaceInvaders/motherboardcomp_layout.gif
10:13 PM Tom_L: zhanx if i uninstalled lilo would it revert back like it was?
10:13 PM zhanx: if you do it with a windows disk
10:14 PM Tom_L: meh skip it then
10:14 PM zhanx: k
10:14 PM Tom_L: will it auto start if you let it sit long enough?
10:14 PM zhanx: should
10:14 PM zhanx: try it
10:14 PM zhanx: 60 sec time out is normal
10:15 PM Tom_L: still trying to get things all lined out
10:15 PM zhanx: yea i am laying out pins here, i am 25 short of what i need ish
10:16 PM zhanx: so i am gonna do a resistor array and poll that for most of them
10:24 PM Tom_L: python must be indented to work right?
10:24 PM Tom_L: that kinda sucks in a way
10:25 PM zhanx: it does and i find it odd also
10:26 PM Tom_L: some early languages were like that
10:26 PM Tom_L: i never used em but i know they were
10:26 PM Tom_L: wasn't cobol or fortran?
10:26 PM zhanx: fortran
10:26 PM zhanx: i first started on that
10:27 PM zhanx: heck i don't even know if fortran is still used
10:27 PM Tom_L: i need to learn more about git
10:28 PM Tom_L: was it used at nasa?
10:28 PM zhanx: git is easy
10:28 PM zhanx: not sure i was in 9th grade
10:28 PM Tom_L: they were looking for somebody to fix some old old code they had but i forgot what it was
10:28 PM Tom_L: none of the kids know anything about it
10:29 PM Tom_L: i think they finally hired some old retired guy
10:29 PM zhanx: heck i could do that with out knowing the code
10:29 PM zhanx: its just a set of rules
10:30 PM Tom_L: https://qz.com/726338/the-code-that-took-america-to-the-moon-was-just-published-to-github-and-its-like-a-1960s-time-capsule/
10:30 PM Tom_L: hah
10:33 PM Tom_L: https://www.popularmechanics.com/space/a17991/voyager-1-voyager-2-retiring-engineer/
10:33 PM Tom_L: that's the story
10:35 PM zhanx: thats kind of funny
10:37 PM Tom_L: https://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/infrastructure/a26380/nasa-high-performance-fast-computing-challenge/
10:38 PM zhanx: i am too old for that
10:38 PM Tom_L: i thought that might be another take on the same story but it isn't
10:40 PM zhanx: i am over here listing every way to conserve power
10:42 PM Tom_L: https://www.wired.com/2015/10/margaret-hamilton-nasa-apollo/
10:42 PM Tom_L: same gal by the pile of code books in the other pics
10:43 PM zhanx: title gore
10:46 PM zhanx: she probably wrote zero code, but was the leadership needed
10:48 PM Tom_L: i don't remember if i asked you but i found the setting to save the desktop on exit so when you restart linux it restores what you had open last time
10:48 PM zhanx: cool never tried that
10:49 PM zhanx: link me
10:49 PM Tom_L: i just shut it off..
10:49 PM zhanx: i would think its a restore thing
10:49 PM Tom_L: i'm running mate
10:49 PM zhanx: I could use it on the robot controller
10:49 PM Tom_L: just a sec
10:49 PM zhanx: mate is just a wm
10:50 PM Tom_L: i now
10:50 PM Tom_L: know
10:50 PM zhanx: that is why i am loving the pi, its a linux solution
10:52 PM Tom_L: System -> Preferences -> Personal -> Startup Applications -> Options -> checkoff Automatically remember running applications when logging out.
10:53 PM zhanx: k, i will have to check the mate settings on that to see how it works
10:54 PM Tom_L: bedtime
10:54 PM zhanx: nite
