12:00 AM rue_mohr: zhanx, I lost you for a sec
12:04 AM rue_mohr: so, if I assume 12V system, at 4A load, running 24hrs
12:04 AM rue_mohr: thats 48w
12:04 AM rue_mohr: thats 1152Wh
12:04 AM rue_mohr: if I assume summer use only, with a ratio of 8 hours dark and 16 hours of light
12:04 AM rue_mohr: in the 16 hours you need to collect 1152Wh
12:04 AM rue_mohr: thats 72w
12:04 AM rue_mohr: ok, so technically more than 72w is ok
12:04 AM rue_mohr: now we need to run 8 hours on battery
12:07 AM rue_mohr: *trying* to seperate out the lies from china
12:07 AM rue_mohr: with a pack of 5Ah li-po
12:08 AM rue_mohr: 3S8P
12:09 AM rue_mohr: 24 cells at $18ea = $432 aka, a heavy car battery is way cheaper
12:10 AM rue_mohr: I think the way car batteries work, thats a 400CCA battery
12:11 AM rue_mohr: I know your going to do your thing
12:11 AM rue_mohr: love to talk about the numbers with ya
12:12 AM rue_mohr: I'd love to work on a project with someone
12:13 AM rue_mohr: I'm getting towards the follower limit on twitter, I'm at 87 and I'm seeing it waiver
12:13 AM rue_mohr: 87 is pretty damn cool!
05:21 AM Tom_L: :)
05:20 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr
05:20 PM rue_mohr: yup
05:21 PM Tom_L: i want to clone a linux wheezy hdd to a ssd so i can test something without messin up the first one
05:21 PM rue_mohr: k
05:21 PM Tom_L: best approach.
05:22 PM rue_mohr: with both devices on the machine cat /dev/source_drive > /dev/dest_drive
05:22 PM rue_mohr: its ugly, it'll work
05:22 PM Tom_L: i could just reinstall wheezy on the ssd but i figured this might be quicker
05:23 PM Tom_L: i gotta let the pc thaw out a bit anyway
05:23 PM Tom_L: it's the mill pc
05:23 PM rue_mohr: you want to tset and then do soemthing else or leave it after
05:23 PM Tom_L: and i want to update from 2.7.14 to 2.8 linuxcnc
05:24 PM rue_mohr: cause that cat command is quick but pretty ugly
05:24 PM rue_mohr: why do you need that update
05:24 PM Tom_L: i don't know anything about cloning a drive using linux
05:24 PM Tom_L: i could use ghost
05:24 PM Tom_L: i wanted to try it is all
05:24 PM rue_mohr: aha, I'm being a fool
05:24 PM Tom_L: it's the newest one with some additional features
05:24 PM rue_mohr: nomatter what I say your gonna go and do something
05:25 PM rue_mohr: :/
05:25 PM Tom_L: i just don't want to change anything on the original drive
05:25 PM rue_mohr: shall I got thru a long thing on how to transfer the files aka hard drive upgrade?
05:25 PM Tom_L: well, would it be quicker than just reinstalling linux?
05:26 PM Tom_L: that's the only reason for doing it this way is to save a bit of time
05:26 PM Tom_L: i still have the install cd
05:26 PM rue_mohr: if you follow my instructions and have patience with the issues from it being a new version of linux that I can fix but will take a bit of time
05:26 PM Tom_L: it is not a new linux version
05:27 PM Tom_L: in fact it's very old
05:27 PM Tom_L: unsupported iirc even
05:28 PM rue_mohr: it kinda souncds like you want to install a new version
05:28 PM rue_mohr: and pull your config files from the old one
05:33 PM Tom_L: whichever is easiest
05:33 PM Tom_L: but i would need to re'install all the other programs it has on it
05:33 PM Tom_L: i'll work it out. sorry i bothered you
11:36 PM rue_mohr: sorry, suddenlt had lots of visitors
11:36 PM rue_mohr: whwere you at?
11:38 PM rue_mohr: the problem with the harddrive upgrade howto process is that they split the new installs into a freaking boatload of partitions
11:39 PM rue_mohr: that are all mounted in a spider mess
11:39 PM rue_mohr: "mount" should have like 3 lines
11:39 PM rue_mohr: on most new systems its between 8 and 35
11:40 PM rue_mohr: tmpfs on /run type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,noexec,relatime,size=830804k,mode=755)
11:40 PM rue_mohr: tmpfs on /run/lock type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime,size=5120k)
11:40 PM rue_mohr: proc on /proc type proc (rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime)
11:40 PM rue_mohr: all that kinda crap
11:41 PM rue_mohr: for each line in mount you need to write an exclude in the system copy
11:41 PM rue_mohr: UNLESS your copying a non-running system, then it gets easy
11:41 PM rue_mohr: so, i you wanted to boot from a live cd and copy between the two drives, there is hope
11:41 PM rue_mohr: just transferring the boot get a bit fun
