01:08 AM zhanx: ok SLAM 2.0
01:12 AM zhanx: opencv is installing again
03:27 AM rue_mohr: hehe
03:29 AM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/freqGen/p1110500.jpg
03:29 AM rue_mohr: was trying to breadboard the freq gen driver
03:30 AM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/freqGen/p1110501.jpg waaasn't comming out too well
03:30 AM rue_mohr: decided to just go for it on the real thing
03:30 AM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/freqGen/p1110512.jpg
03:30 AM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/freqGen/p1110514.jpg
03:30 AM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/freqGen/p1110513.jpg
03:30 AM rue_mohr: success
03:31 AM rue_mohr: I have a few more things to tweek, but, yea
06:52 AM Tom_L: nice one
12:39 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, so
01:13 PM Tom_L: sooooo...
01:42 PM rue_mohr: what would be a fair price fer yer its-not-an-arduino kit
01:42 PM rue_mohr: (s)
01:50 PM Tom_L: i have no idea, i need to get the parts out and see what i've got
01:50 PM Tom_L: save you hunting them down
01:50 PM Tom_L: how many do you want anyway? i've got a good dozen made up already
01:50 PM rue_mohr: doesn't have to be all the parts, even the chips and the pcbs would be awesome
01:51 PM rue_mohr: and, if I were trying to do a lot of boards, I could try etching my own
01:51 PM Tom_L: some could be obsolete now like the ESD thingies
01:51 PM Tom_L: dunno
01:52 PM Tom_L: i'll go thru them soon and see just what i've got
01:55 PM rue_mohr: not worried about alist, just wondering what woudl be fair
01:56 PM Tom_L: at this point all the parts have been covered
01:56 PM Tom_L: so they're just taking up space here
01:56 PM Tom_L: how are you doing on your paint sprayers?
01:56 PM rue_mohr: I dont even know what $50cad IS in usd
01:57 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, slow
01:57 PM rue_mohr: every time we make one we spend most of the time trying to remember how to do it
01:58 PM Tom_L: i kept a log of what i made on the programmers etc
01:59 PM Tom_L: i was rather surprised
01:59 PM rue_mohr: we have all sorts of notes, but between old notes not getting dosposed of beacuse they ahve something important in the corner, and not READING what we wrote...
01:59 PM rue_mohr: hah, imagine how many boxes you could gang up in your new machine!
02:30 PM rue_shop3: ok, finished getting the other printer going
02:30 PM rue_shop3: the gearboxes open up a bit after a few hundred hours
02:30 PM rue_shop3: being their 3d printed and all
02:31 PM rue_shop3: hey Tom_L
02:31 PM rue_shop3: want to play with machining some gears?
02:31 PM rue_shop3: I suppose I can do it on these machines...
02:32 PM rue_shop3: oof, that needs to be done from 3/4" plate...
02:46 PM Tom_L: 3/4" plate!!
02:47 PM Tom_L: i've got a gear generator macro for the cad cam though.. i've never used it
02:48 PM Tom_L: what material?
03:45 PM rue_mohr: aluminum
03:45 PM rue_mohr: I was just playing with one of the 3d printers, its gears are wearing in (out?) and I know your looking for something to play with
03:45 PM rue_mohr: I have a 2d cad with the 2 layer profiles
04:38 PM rue_mohr: ok, there, when I plug my camera in, it automatically unloads the images
04:53 PM Tom_L: original is plastic?
05:08 PM Tom_L: how big is it?
05:08 PM Tom_L: not sure i have tools small enough to fit inside the gear profile
05:10 PM rue_shop1: small
05:10 PM rue_shop1: like way under 2"^2
05:10 PM rue_shop1: I'll post the files in a while, you can take a look
05:33 PM Tom_L: 3/4" might be the killer
05:33 PM Tom_L: most small bits don't have that flute length
05:33 PM furrywolf: index and flip.
05:34 PM rue_shop1: oo
05:34 PM rue_shop1: so it could yet present a challange
05:34 PM Tom_L: yeah but that gets sloppy
05:35 PM rue_shop1: as long as the shaft hole and the gear are concentric its all ok
05:35 PM rue_shop1: there is a compression collar that doesn't matter
05:38 PM furrywolf: you can index pretty accurately... drill the center hole and a hole off on one side, and make a fixture with a bit of shaft and a roll pin. roll pins are nice and tight. mill one side, flip over, mill other side. have your design be symmetric across the axis with the roll pin, and accurately touch off the pin before beginning work. (touch both sides of the pin and center)
05:38 PM Tom_L: yeah i know how to do it
05:39 PM furrywolf: or be fancy and intentionally mill each side a half tooth off, as long as you make every gear match. :)
05:40 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Assembly/Final/Vise_parts/Speedhandle_profile.jpg
05:40 PM Tom_L: that did ok with 1/8" cutter
05:41 PM Tom_L: but i think it was 1/2 or 5/8"
05:41 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Assembly/Final/Vise_parts/Speedhandle1.jpg
05:41 PM Tom_L: pretty sure that was 1/2
06:16 PM rue_shop1: 0603 33nF
06:16 PM rue_shop1: nope
06:16 PM rue_shop1: 0805 33nF
06:17 PM rue_shop1: aparently, the 33nF in the 0805 cap kit I got was 0603
06:31 PM Tom_L: ok let's see how this works
06:31 PM Tom_itx: ATMEGA32U2-AU-ND
06:31 PM Tom_itx: 490-1198-1-ND
06:31 PM Tom_itx: 587-1241-1-ND

06:34 PM Tom_L: align those descriptions
06:34 PM Tom_L: and you have the part list
06:36 PM Tom_itx: IC1
06:36 PM Tom_itx: Q1
06:36 PM Tom_itx: C3
06:36 PM Tom_itx: C4

06:37 PM Tom_L: and you have where they go
07:00 PM Tom_itx: 490-5994-1-ND
07:00 PM Tom_itx: 8Mhz resonator if you need 8 instead of 16
08:45 PM rue_mohr: I'm back
08:46 PM rue_mohr: ok
08:48 PM Tom_L: u2 part list
08:49 PM rue_mohr: yep, I got it all
08:49 PM Tom_L: i likely have all the parts
08:49 PM Tom_L: for a good handfull of em
08:49 PM Tom_L: i likely will never use them
08:50 PM rue_mohr: hold onto some stuff to play with
08:50 PM Tom_L: no
08:50 PM Tom_L: i won't be going back
08:50 PM rue_mohr: hmm
08:50 PM Tom_L: i never re'read a chapter
08:51 PM Tom_L: it'd cost too much or i'd send the toaster oven
08:51 PM Tom_L: is your power 110 or 220v?
08:51 PM rue_mohr: 120
08:52 PM rue_mohr: toaster oven might come in handy for other things tho
08:52 PM rue_mohr: a board repair or soemthing
08:52 PM Tom_L: i doubt i'll ever need it
08:53 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/freqGen/p1110514.jpg
08:53 PM rue_mohr: did you see the freq gen?
08:54 PM Tom_L: yes
08:54 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/freqGen/p1110507.jpg
08:54 PM rue_mohr: its a hell of a lot cleaner than my commercial gens
08:58 PM Tom_L: what would a fast schmitt trigger do to it?
09:15 PM rue_shop1: too low, tried it
09:16 PM rue_shop1: they dont like 10Mhz
09:43 PM rue_shop1: 0.1 uF 0805
10:07 PM Tom_L: i found 0603 weren't any harder to solder than 0804 but gaines realestate and 0402 were enough harder to solder that time was worth more than size
10:07 PM Tom_L: and besides they were small enough to get sucked up into my pick n place pump thru the hypo needle :)
