01:42 AM rue_bed: no, parts shut down
01:42 AM rue_bed: I can kinda tell as they go
01:42 AM rue_bed: but I hear and see things
01:42 AM rue_bed: so I know I'm not that close yet
01:42 AM rue_bed: but there are types of thinking I cant do as I go down
09:52 AM furrywolf: why has a simple task of "put a light bulb across a switch to charge some big capacitors" turned into a multi-day effort with non-machinable components? sigh...
09:56 AM furrywolf: I need a shaper one of these days, or to make broaches.
09:57 AM * furrywolf had to make do with filing instead...
10:22 AM furrywolf: not only can it charge the capacitors, it can also discharge them, and serve as a waterproof mobile worklight with easily changable bulbs using bayonet-mount automotive lamp sockets complete with the proper bayonet shape carefully filed into the housing.
10:48 AM furrywolf: feature creep++
10:55 AM Jymmm: Bigger question is why do you need to machine a lightbulb, and how many machinsit does it take? lmao
10:59 AM furrywolf: I needed to machine the mounts for the sockets
10:59 AM furrywolf: it's a circle with a cross superimposed on it, sorta. the sockets push in and turn to lock them in.
11:01 AM furrywolf: https://d114hh0cykhyb0.cloudfront.net/timthumb.php?h=320&q=90&src=https://d114hh0cykhyb0.cloudfront.net/images/uploads/ba15s-sw2-store.jpg&w=390&zc=2 those
11:01 AM Jymmm: silicone?
11:01 AM furrywolf: I drilled the hole then filed the notches, but I hate filing. heh.
11:02 AM furrywolf: hurts my back
11:04 AM Jymmm: I'd just do a giant glob of silicone, or find a panel mount socket maybe?
11:07 AM furrywolf: that's crappy. :)
11:08 AM Jymmm: Fine, a laser or plasma cutter sounds to be in your future =)
11:10 AM furrywolf: http://fw.bushytails.net/tmp/capacitorlight01.jpg first plan was just to have a couple light bulbs dangling on wires. this would have accomplished the original goal, charging the capacitors. then I decided it would be nice to have them protected in a housing. then I decided it would be nice to be able to use them to discharge the capacitors too. then I decided that as long as I had lights in a housing with a switch, I might as well add a cord so
11:11 AM furrywolf: and, of course, if I'm going to have that many features, I should build it non-crappy, hence the proper removable sockets, neat shrink wrap on everything, etc.
11:14 AM * furrywolf is really good at over-building things
11:23 AM furrywolf: bbl
12:07 PM Jymmm: haha
01:51 PM furrywolf: $#@$@#@$@#!!!!
01:52 PM furrywolf: just got told I can't use my rental workshop anymore.
01:52 PM furrywolf: the one I have the router table and everything else in
09:50 PM RonoldoMoon: :(
