12:23 AM Tom_L: happy belated newyear
12:27 AM furrywolf: I hate it. hate it. I want to go to bed.
12:27 AM Tom_L: had my head in the books, missed the whole thing
12:29 AM rue_mohr: oh, come share mine
12:29 AM rue_mohr: its in 1.5 hrs
12:29 AM rue_mohr: drive fast
12:30 AM rue_mohr: :)
12:30 AM rue_mohr: furrywolf, what you doing for newyears?
12:30 AM rue_mohr: just stayin up?
12:38 AM furrywolf: I want to go to bed. I'm staying up because everyone else in the neighborhood wants to blow things up and/or waste ammo.
12:38 AM furrywolf: and it's way too loud to sleep
12:38 AM rue_mohr: what do you call a greenhouse on the front of a house?
12:38 AM furrywolf: sunroom, conservatory,...
12:47 AM furrywolf: argh... I was just thinking it might be quieting down a bit, and then the last boom rattled my windows.
12:48 AM rue_mohr: did you think about a shop at all
12:48 AM rue_mohr: ?
12:48 AM rue_mohr: your gonna have to work it out eventually
12:49 AM furrywolf: a shop with sufficient size to arrange everything nearly is so unlikely to happen any time soon that I have given it no thought at all.
12:49 AM furrywolf: neatly
12:49 AM rue_mohr: these are the words of depression, pretend your 5 and take another stab at it...
12:51 AM furrywolf: can I stab all the people making loud noises at times normal people are in bed?
12:53 AM rue_mohr: you must think about SOMETHING cool
12:53 AM rue_mohr: look, there are two of me in this head
12:53 AM rue_mohr: I need another head-space
12:53 AM rue_mohr: nobody says what their thinking anymore
12:53 AM rue_mohr: or you just cant hear them
12:53 AM rue_mohr: arg, dude...
12:54 AM rue_mohr: I need thoughts
12:54 AM rue_mohr: I really need thoughts
12:54 AM furrywolf: I can tell you how I was going to arrange a tiny shop that I don't have.
12:54 AM rue_mohr: yes
12:54 AM rue_mohr: yes tell me that
12:56 AM furrywolf: looking in from the front, welding and other metal and hot work on front right, machining on back right, wood on back left, automotive on front left, electronics and pneumatics upstairs, cad upstairs, storage upstairs.
12:56 AM rue_mohr: oo I like the soft seperation
12:58 AM furrywolf: it also groups the tools that often tend to be used together near each other, like welding near automotive, and things unlikely to be used together, like welding and wood, on the opposite corners.
12:59 AM rue_mohr: 3d printers upstairs
12:59 AM rue_mohr: chillspace upstairs
12:59 AM rue_mohr: where does the paint booth go?
12:59 AM * rue_mohr puts an addition on furs idea
01:00 AM furrywolf: no room
01:00 AM furrywolf: paint booths require a large amount of dedicated space
01:00 AM rue_mohr: oh? how big does it need to be?
01:00 AM furrywolf: 3d printers go in the large round plastic storage device with wheels that's in front of the shop.
01:00 AM rue_mohr: maybe it can be in the covered space out the front door of the shop?
01:01 AM furrywolf: if I need to do painting, I can rig drop clothes in a square off the rafters or something.
01:01 AM furrywolf: cloths
01:01 AM furrywolf: no, painting absolutely has to be done indoors here, unless you're using a brush.
01:01 AM rue_mohr: ooo
01:02 AM furrywolf: it's always 100% humidity outdoors, and the cooling effect of expanding spray causes water to ruin your finish.
01:04 AM furrywolf: I've been putting wheels on everything lately... you can make more use of limited space by not giving each machine a dedicated working space, and cramming everything you're not using together.
01:08 AM furrywolf: if you do that, don't cheap out on the wheels. spend the extra few bucks for good ones.
01:13 AM furrywolf: https://www.ebay.com/itm/4-x-2-Swivel-Caster-Polyurethane-on-Steel-Hub-w-Top-Lock-Brake-700-lbs-Ea-4/182063630295 I've given this guy way too much money, but that's the best price I've found for real heavy-duty casters. they're chinese-made, but a lot better than harbor freight or such.
01:13 AM furrywolf: actual roller bearings, steel hub, double bearing swivel, greasable, etc.
01:13 AM furrywolf: and you can fit a directional lock to them, which I've started doing on everything.
01:13 AM furrywolf: the brake is somewhat chintzy but seems to work
01:15 AM furrywolf: I was planning on a ventilation system for the hot work area already, could be combined with that.
01:15 AM furrywolf: I also do a small amount of glasblowing, which also needs good ventilation. (lots of heavy metals... red, orange, and yellow are all cadmium oxides...)
01:15 AM rue_mohr: colour!
01:15 AM rue_mohr: ever done red!?
01:16 AM rue_mohr: :)
01:16 AM furrywolf: ... yeah?
01:17 AM rue_mohr: I hear its hard to get to cool the right colour
01:18 AM furrywolf: that's silver red, not cadmium red...
01:18 AM furrywolf: cadmium red is easy to get the right color... and even easier to completely ruined the entire thing you're working on by overheating it, because it burns reallllly fucking easily.
01:19 AM furrywolf: silver red/strike red is really hard to get the right color, but you can't burn it, so you just end up with the wrong color instead of ruined things.
01:19 AM rue_mohr: was told its gold
01:20 AM furrywolf: hrmm, you may be right, I'm mostly asleep.
01:23 AM * furrywolf does not do well at thinking when kept up past bedtime
01:24 AM rue_mohr: I'm a night owl
01:24 AM rue_mohr: and unfortunatly, I'm now an acclimatized one
01:24 AM rue_mohr: getting back on work schedule is GOING to be hell
01:25 AM furrywolf: I'm very much not, and never have been.
01:26 AM furrywolf: I become non-functional after about 9:30.
01:32 AM furrywolf: starting to quiet down a bit, going to head off to bed
01:35 AM rue_mohr: fluffy dreams
01:43 AM rue_mohr: ok
01:46 AM rue_mohr: oh ohoh oh, I have a firecracker!
01:46 AM rue_mohr: I fofgot
08:51 AM Kwisher: rue_mohr: ping
10:29 AM furrywolf: I fucking hate new year's eve.
10:31 AM Tom_L: that's what i heard
10:31 AM Tom_L: but why?
10:31 AM Tom_L: i'm not crazy about it or 4th of july
10:31 AM Tom_L: the pets hate it
10:31 AM furrywolf: because I got kept up for 3.5 hours after I wanted to go to bed, and now I'm utterly fucking useless due to lack of sleep.
10:32 AM Tom_L: i usually spend it doing paperwork until they stop making noise
10:32 AM Tom_L: got all (most) of my business taxes done
10:33 AM Tom_L: i hate doing them so i figure i may as well get them done during another time i don't like
10:34 AM furrywolf: the problem is, I wake up at the same time no matter when I go to bed... so I didn't get half the sleep I needed to get last night, and now I'm not functional.
10:35 AM furrywolf: and I couldn't have gotten anything done last night either, because I become useless at bedtime...
10:35 AM Tom_L: so do i
10:35 AM Tom_L: to the wake up time anyway
10:41 AM Tom_L: how or why did you acumulate so many tools and can't use them?
10:41 AM Tom_L: looks like you've got some nice stuff
10:43 AM furrywolf: how, by buying them, why, because I want to use them... but land costs far more than tools.
10:44 AM Tom_L: sounds like you worked in the automotive repair business at one point
10:44 AM Tom_L: i did when i was young
10:44 AM furrywolf: no, I never have.
10:44 AM Tom_L: huh
10:45 AM furrywolf: I mean, I fix all my own cars, and help out someone in their shop occasionally, but never a business.
10:45 AM Tom_L: that was one of my first jobs out of HS
10:46 AM Tom_L: i try to do all my own too
10:55 AM furrywolf: aaaargh! google now has a stupid fucking fixed-position bar over your search results?
10:56 AM furrywolf: ok, I am now officially tired of google, and it's time to use something else.
10:58 AM Tom_L: bing!
10:58 AM Tom_L: i won't use bing
11:01 AM furrywolf: what kind of brain-damage would make anyone think I want to fucking waste a big bar of screen space just to avoid *gasp* the trivial action of scrolling back to the top of the page?
02:24 PM rue_mohr: then your down to duckduckgo
02:59 PM rue_shop1: or would you like to write a webcrawler with me?
03:04 PM Tom_L: so you got your new shop all designed?
03:05 PM rue_shop1: heh, I got the building designed
03:05 PM * Tom_L munches on some peanuts
03:05 PM rue_shop1: the shop layout is gonna take some work
03:06 PM Tom_L: i wanna see architectural drawings!!!!
03:06 PM rue_shop1: :) I'll take pics of the paperwork I dun
03:06 PM rue_shop1: in a bit
03:06 PM rue_shop1: I have a pi rotating a 3d scanning table and I need to check its doing it right
03:06 PM Tom_L: just so it's done on a professional napkin...
03:07 PM rue_shop1: a lot is likley to chagne
03:07 PM Tom_L: tryin to beat z to the punch?
03:07 PM Tom_L: here's what ya do...
03:08 PM Tom_L: build a large metal building over the top of the exhisting shop and to the front boundary of your house the width of the lot
03:08 PM Tom_L: you can live in the shop while it's being done
03:08 PM Tom_L: they actually did that at a tiny church here
03:08 PM Tom_L: then leveled the roof on the old one inside the new one
03:09 PM rue_shop1: I have to jump thru hoops on things to find out what I'm allowed to make and what I can afford
03:10 PM Tom_L: you need investors
03:10 PM Tom_L: sell an idea to them
03:10 PM rue_shop1: 2 rotations, wtf
03:10 PM rue_shop1: I'm not a person who can sell anyone on anything
03:10 PM rue_shop1: one of my downfalls
03:10 PM Tom_L: get one that will
03:10 PM Tom_L: just borrow him
03:12 PM rue_shop1: ok, 25371 steps/rev
03:13 PM rue_shop1: this week I'll send the site plan to the district and see if I can build where I want to
03:13 PM rue_shop1: +- permissions and sprinkler systems and bay windows
03:15 PM Tom_L: sprinkler system?
03:15 PM Tom_L: fire or irrigation?
03:15 PM rue_shop1: fire, I might need it to be allowed so close to the line
03:15 PM Tom_L: picky bastards
03:16 PM rue_shop1: heh, python can exec pretty quick
03:16 PM Tom_L: ok i got 98% of the business taxes done last night
03:16 PM rue_shop1: 25371 steps in like 3 seconds
03:16 PM * Tom_L wonders if zhanx knows what he's in for
03:17 PM rue_shop1: and the laser is working
03:17 PM Tom_L: what sort of laser?
03:17 PM rue_shop1: and I can diff images from the camera, but...
03:17 PM rue_shop1: line laser from china
03:17 PM Tom_L: ken maxon did one but his site is long gone
03:17 PM rue_shop1: the motor driver is noisy tho, I'll add a disable sometime
03:18 PM rue_shop1: yea, they seem to be vaporware
03:18 PM rue_shop1: there was a vaporware posted back in 2004ish that said to just take a few photos of an object and it'd make a model
03:19 PM Tom_L: he was doing object detection
03:19 PM rue_shop1: everyone on the social media sites says OOOOH ITS THE LATEST THING! and nobody ever tries to actaully download it
03:19 PM rue_shop1: I see it with thingiverse
03:19 PM Tom_L: what's that?
03:20 PM rue_shop1: you get lots of social feedback about stuff posted, but rarely does anyone ever try to use the thing you posted
03:20 PM Tom_L: untested junk?
03:20 PM rue_shop1: thingiverse?
03:20 PM rue_shop1: supposed to be where you find premodeled things
03:20 PM rue_shop1: I post lots of the stuff I design there
03:21 PM Tom_L: i know you do
03:21 PM rue_shop1: there are people who mash random objects togethor and post it as a thing to get the feedback
03:23 PM Tom_L: gas was 1.73 the other day at a station i saw here
03:23 PM Tom_L: most were still 1.87
03:26 PM rue_mohr: you remember what I said, right?
03:26 PM Tom_L: about what?
03:26 PM rue_mohr: gas prices
08:02 PM furrywolf: meep! I'm a bad wolfy. I needed an extra-thin wrench, so grabbed a random one out of the toolbox and headed to the grinder... a par-x. when grinding it, I realized it was really nice steel, and felt bad about mangling it. looked up par-x, and it's actually snap-on.
08:04 PM __M00N__: woops :p
08:05 PM rue_mohr: heh
08:06 PM __M00N__: so how do i register?
08:06 PM rue_mohr: /msg nickserv REGISTER <password> <email-address>
08:06 PM __M00N__: ok
08:07 PM rue_mohr: it'll do an email bounceback
08:07 PM rue_mohr: with a hash
08:07 PM __M00N__: hmm now i should consider my handle more
08:07 PM rue_mohr: furrywolf, I presume you have a million other nice ones tho
08:08 PM furrywolf: of course, including like four of these in actual snap-on branding. heh.
08:08 PM __M00N__ is now known as moon
08:08 PM moon is now known as Moon
08:17 PM FingerLickinGood: hmm not sure yet
08:20 PM rue_mohr: haha
08:20 PM RonoldoMoon: what?
08:20 PM rue_mohr: if a bat is a night creature, whats a day creature?
08:20 PM rue_mohr: cause, your no night vreature
08:21 PM RonoldoMoon: a fat person with a donut!
08:22 PM rue_shop1: did you figure out the transistor?
08:24 PM RonoldoMoon: i supose I have a greater ideah of whats going on but I have not had time to realy think yet :P
08:25 PM RonoldoMoon: Let me take a look here
08:27 PM RonoldoMoon: looks like the transistor will trigger on after 0.5v acros the base
08:27 PM rue_mohr: what spec are you looking at
08:27 PM RonoldoMoon: @75*
08:28 PM rue_mohr: Vbe forward biased?
08:30 PM RonoldoMoon: yes?
08:30 PM rue_mohr: k
08:30 PM rue_mohr: there is prolly some current before that
08:30 PM rue_mohr: your just using it for operating your flyback transofrmer right?
08:31 PM RonoldoMoon: nah just reading about it
08:31 PM RonoldoMoon: this one will be for an audio amp, class A
08:31 PM furrywolf: damnit, why has some 10/4 SO they want to send me?
08:32 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tutorials/elex/qwhathow.html
08:32 PM furrywolf: I need... 18". lol
08:32 PM rue_mohr: RonoldoMoon, you DID read the transistor page I did, right?
08:32 PM RonoldoMoon: I did twice
08:32 PM rue_mohr: well what doesn't make sense
08:32 PM rue_mohr: furrywolf, hu?
08:33 PM RonoldoMoon: its easyer for me on paper type diagrams schematic stuff
08:33 PM RonoldoMoon: but data sheets send me for a lOOOOP
08:33 PM rue_mohr: ok, well
08:33 PM RonoldoMoon: the graphs are dificult for me
08:34 PM rue_mohr: so
08:34 PM RonoldoMoon: Tso
08:34 PM rue_mohr: https://www.electronics-tutorials.ws/amplifier/amp21.gif
08:34 PM rue_mohr: right?
08:35 PM RonoldoMoon: yeah I was reading this page today XD
08:35 PM rue_mohr: ok
08:35 PM RonoldoMoon: it made most sence]
08:35 PM rue_mohr: on the ouput, you want the voltage at the collector to be vcc/2 when nothing is happening, right?
08:36 PM RonoldoMoon: sounds right yeah
08:36 PM rue_mohr: then your output can get max swing between your power rails
08:37 PM RonoldoMoon: yeah with no zero crossing distorsion
08:37 PM rue_mohr: well
08:37 PM RonoldoMoon: but spelling distortion
08:37 PM rue_mohr: the most motion you can get is from vcc to gnd
08:37 PM rue_mohr: tahts ideal output swing
08:37 PM rue_mohr: right?
08:38 PM rue_mohr: aka no clipping
08:38 PM RonoldoMoon: sure? i read about the zero crossing problems of class B , thats what I was refering to
08:38 PM RonoldoMoon: yeah and I want no clip
08:38 PM rue_mohr: shall we do class A first?
08:39 PM RonoldoMoon: class A is all I want
08:39 PM rue_mohr: yes
08:39 PM rue_mohr: the most motion you can get is from vcc to gnd, yes?
08:39 PM RonoldoMoon: yes
08:39 PM rue_mohr: ok, the gain is the same going up and going down
08:40 PM RonoldoMoon: if biased right?
08:40 PM rue_mohr: so, if you put "zero" at vcc/2, you have the same amount up as down
08:40 PM rue_mohr: wtf was that
08:40 PM rue_mohr: brb
08:40 PM RonoldoMoon: ok and yes
08:42 PM rue_shop3: huh, something did a pretty hard start across the power line...
08:42 PM rue_shop3: anyhow
08:43 PM rue_shop3: ok, so, when the output is at vcc/2, the voltage drop across the collector resistor and the transistor are the same
08:43 PM RonoldoMoon: and how
08:43 PM rue_shop3: (Re = 0 ohms)
08:43 PM RonoldoMoon: 1 sec
08:44 PM RonoldoMoon: ok I follow
08:44 PM rue_shop3: the current in the collector resistor is the same as the current in the CE of the transistor
08:45 PM RonoldoMoon: for sure
08:45 PM rue_shop3: cause "the base current is so low it doesn't matter"
08:45 PM rue_shop3: ok, so
08:45 PM rue_shop3: do you want to design one and we will use real numbers?
08:45 PM RonoldoMoon: yeah but you wernt talking from emitter to GND any way
08:45 PM RonoldoMoon: thats the additive
08:46 PM RonoldoMoon: CE would be strait up the same?
08:46 PM rue_shop3: Trans Resistor = transistor
08:46 PM RonoldoMoon: penis or dress?
08:46 PM * rue_shop3 shakes head
08:46 PM RonoldoMoon: :P
08:46 PM rue_shop3: so, the transistor current is the same as the resistor current
08:46 PM RonoldoMoon: ?me cacles in the dark
08:46 PM rue_shop3: yes?
08:46 PM RonoldoMoon: woops
08:47 PM RonoldoMoon: yes
08:47 PM rue_shop3: ok, and you know the transistor gain
08:47 PM rue_shop3: 25? 35?
08:47 PM RonoldoMoon: not sure
08:47 PM RonoldoMoon: 1 sec
08:47 PM rue_shop1: Hfe
08:48 PM RonoldoMoon: 100 god I dont know?
08:49 PM rue_mohr: which datasheet you reading
08:49 PM RonoldoMoon: https://pdf1.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/view/247911/RENESAS/2SD476AK.html the wrong one
08:50 PM * rue_mohr hits RonoldoMoon with a fish for not using digchip
08:51 PM RonoldoMoon: same one I fopund on digchip
08:51 PM rue_mohr: how do you people put up with this much advertizing?
08:51 PM rue_mohr: anyhow
08:51 PM rue_mohr: crap an ad killed it
08:51 PM rue_mohr: give me 5 more mins to get it off that crap site
08:52 PM rue_mohr: again
08:52 PM rue_mohr: k
08:52 PM RonoldoMoon: LINK ME
08:52 PM rue_mohr: go to page 4
08:53 PM RonoldoMoon: of mine?
08:53 PM rue_mohr: see Hfe1 and Hfe2?
08:53 PM rue_mohr: yes
08:53 PM rue_mohr: Symbol column
08:53 PM RonoldoMoon: I cant do thjis lets drop it
08:54 PM rue_mohr: cant get to page 4?
08:54 PM RonoldoMoon: thanks anyway
08:54 PM rue_mohr: just dont read everything...
09:00 PM rue_mohr: depends on the gain
09:00 PM rue_mohr: about 1V levels
09:01 PM rue_mohr: headphones are about 32 ohms
09:01 PM furrywolf: my headphones are about 32,000,000 ohms.
09:02 PM rue_mohr: :(
09:02 PM rue_mohr: 9V is common power RonoldoMoon
09:02 PM furrywolf: it's the capacitance that makes them work. :)
09:02 PM rue_mohr: odl days was 2x9V batteries
09:03 PM furrywolf: (plus the 1.5kv driver box...)
09:05 PM rue_mohr: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2438562
09:05 PM rue_mohr: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2739442
09:07 PM furrywolf: (yes, kV...)
09:08 PM rue_mohr: RonoldoMoon, had speakers like that
09:11 PM rue_mohr: TDA2050
09:11 PM Tom_L: so
09:11 PM Tom_L: what's up tonight?
09:12 PM rue_mohr: I'm gonna run this program to generate images from the picam with and withoutt he laser
09:12 PM furrywolf: tom: I'm crimping lugs on wires. it's not very interesting.
09:12 PM rue_mohr: then run them thru my diff software and see what I get
09:12 PM rue_mohr: furrywolf, for???
09:13 PM Tom_L: i've ground a wrench or three as well...
09:13 PM Tom_L: tried to make sure they weren't snapon though
09:13 PM furrywolf: re-wiring the small 12v panel that connects the 24v-12v dc-dc converters to loads.
09:14 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr what's inside the box?
09:14 PM rue_mohr: :) wheich one
09:14 PM rue_mohr: the one with the usb port I did a 2x audio amp for my speakers
09:15 PM rue_mohr: the one with the lexan was a input thinger for a stores callbell system
09:15 PM rue_mohr: "service to paint, service to paint"
09:15 PM rue_mohr: they set it up with 4 types of chimes
09:16 PM rue_mohr: front counter, paint, rear counter, and "hey, someone is stealing stuff"
09:17 PM furrywolf: it's just a box with four circuit breakers and six assorted size anderson powerpoles.
09:17 PM rue_mohr: nice
09:17 PM furrywolf: it's replacing a tangle of fuse holders.
09:18 PM furrywolf: and replacing the oldest battery in my system at the same time.
09:19 PM rue_mohr: how much stuff do you use the batteries for?
09:19 PM furrywolf: it's... still working. kinda. it's 9 gel-cells in parallel. they're >20 years old now.
09:19 PM furrywolf: I got them from the scrapyard a decade ago!
09:19 PM rue_mohr: thats pretty good
09:19 PM furrywolf: the 12v system currently only runs my well pumps and my weather station.
09:19 PM rue_mohr: can any of them deliver more than an amp?
09:19 PM rue_mohr: :)
09:20 PM furrywolf: dunno. the well pumps still start fine.
09:20 PM rue_mohr: how much does it draw?
09:20 PM furrywolf: but, they're starting to leak. badly. they're sitting in a puddle of glop that ranges from bright sulfur yellow to dark brown dried cat urine color, that dissolves any wire that touches it.
09:20 PM furrywolf: about 40A
09:21 PM rue_mohr: ! ok
09:21 PM furrywolf: the wires to two of them have stopped existing entirely.
09:21 PM furrywolf: that is, they just end.
09:21 PM furrywolf: so it's actually 7 in parallel now. lol
09:22 PM furrywolf: I don't know what the ph of that puddle is, but I wore gloves last time I touched anything near it. heh.
09:23 PM rue_mohr: yes!, _I_ can see a line!
09:23 PM rue_mohr: can the computer?
09:26 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/images/3dscanner/out.png
09:26 PM rue_mohr: find the laser line!
09:26 PM furrywolf: looks like I'm going to be joining all 8 grounds together on a 1/4" bolt... with a bunch of extra nuts. ugly, but should get the job done...
09:26 PM * Tom_L points to the green line
09:26 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/images/3dscanner/image2.png
09:27 PM rue_mohr: luckily, the objects will normally be closer than the cieling is from the table
09:28 PM rue_mohr: actaully, thats interesting, maybe I can zero out everything but red
09:30 PM rue_mohr: R G B R G B
09:31 PM rue_mohr: so, if I modulo 2
09:31 PM rue_mohr: 2 1 0 ?
09:31 PM rue_mohr: remainder after division
09:32 PM rue_mohr: 0/2 = infinity, remainder 0
09:32 PM rue_mohr: 1/2 = 0.5...
09:32 PM rue_mohr: I'm doing this wrong
09:32 PM Tom_L: where does infinity start?
09:32 PM rue_mohr: at the same place it ends
09:33 PM Tom_L: but where is that?
09:33 PM * rue_mohr segfaults
09:33 PM Tom_L: how do you get in?
09:33 PM rue_mohr: ok, look i need to know when I'm on a red byte for a pixel
09:33 PM rue_mohr: 24bit
09:34 PM rue_mohr: so bytes are R G B
09:34 PM rue_mohr: 0 modulus 2 is zero
09:34 PM rue_mohr: right?
09:34 PM Tom_L: i'm fried, you're on your own tonight
09:34 PM rue_mohr: just you and me rue }:]
09:35 PM Tom_L: did taxes and program updates for 2 days
09:35 PM rue_mohr: damnit!
09:35 PM Tom_L: got my withholding data entered for the new year
09:35 PM Tom_L: what i can get my hands on so far anyway
09:37 PM rue_mohr: ?
09:37 PM Tom_L: they're slow to get the new year data out
09:41 PM Tom_L: so you've got welding, soldering, programming, lathework, millwork, 3d printers, woodwork, smelting, what am i missing?
09:42 PM Tom_L: each of which could occupy a shop all it's own
09:42 PM Tom_L: oh a clean room
09:42 PM Tom_L: and a dirty room
09:43 PM rue_mohr: I have 14x30' covered space outside
09:44 PM rue_mohr: got the lathe, mill, grider, sander, tablesaw, 4x8cnc router, ~2 cnc machines, ~5 3d printers, drillpress (I'll trim it down to one, I will)
09:44 PM rue_mohr: soldering, etching,
09:44 PM rue_mohr: chill space
09:44 PM Tom_L: table saw could technically occupy a 4 x 20 space
09:44 PM rue_mohr: (couch / coffeetable)
09:44 PM Tom_L: if you rip a 4 x 8 sheet
09:45 PM rue_mohr: there is the chopsaw
09:45 PM rue_mohr: sandblaster
09:45 PM rue_mohr: bandsaws (horiz and vert)
09:45 PM rue_mohr: compressor OUTSIDE
09:45 PM Tom_L: grinder sander sandblaster all go in the dirty room
09:46 PM Tom_L: as well as the welder
09:46 PM Tom_L: cause it makes a mess
09:46 PM rue_mohr: zhanx, so, I started the scan of my first 3d object
09:46 PM rue_mohr: oh yea, gas and arcwelding
09:46 PM rue_mohr: and wirefeed
09:46 PM Tom_L: that's 10 x 15 at least for the dirty room
09:47 PM Tom_L: and it needs a work table in it
09:48 PM rue_mohr: yep, larger than 3x6
09:48 PM rue_mohr: or is mine 4x6
09:48 PM Tom_L: naw not really
09:48 PM rue_mohr: sorting area
09:48 PM rue_mohr: stuff storage
09:48 PM Tom_L: put it on lockable wheels
09:48 PM Tom_L: so you can move it around easy
09:48 PM Tom_L: should be steel
09:48 PM Tom_L: in that room
09:49 PM Tom_L: not wood
09:49 PM Tom_L: i would be lost without my steel table
09:49 PM Tom_L: it's only about 3 x 4
09:49 PM Tom_L: 1/2" plate
09:50 PM Tom_L: a grinder takes up about 2.5 x 3'
09:50 PM Tom_L: if you count standing in front of it
09:50 PM Tom_L: on a pedistal
09:51 PM Tom_L: mine is a car rim with a 4" pipe
09:51 PM Tom_L: with a plate on top to mount it
09:51 PM Tom_L: i've seen farmers use old plow disks as a base for them
10:09 PM rue_mohr: I used a large truck drum brake
10:09 PM rue_mohr: ok, just a bit more coding and I can 3d scan an object
10:10 PM rue_mohr: 1 rotation is 25371 steps
10:13 PM rue_mohr: so 1 degree is about 70.5 steps
10:13 PM furrywolf: I never got around to building anything when I was going to build a 3d scanner... about 15 years ago. heh.
10:13 PM rue_mohr: yea, I started mine in like 2000
10:13 PM furrywolf: I did write a stereo correlation program once
10:13 PM rue_mohr: oo
10:13 PM furrywolf: slow as fuck, but did manage to produce a depth map
10:13 PM rue_mohr: tell!
10:13 PM rue_mohr: how did it match things?
10:13 PM rue_mohr: fourier?
10:13 PM furrywolf: a multi-level system... brute-force match, say, 1 point in 16x16, then fill in the others using those as a starting guess, so the matches are found quicker.
10:13 PM rue_mohr: huh
10:14 PM furrywolf: trying to minimize the square of the errors, if I remember right. search around until it finds something that matches. very slow. do it on a sparse grid at first, then use those as guesses to speed up future matches.
10:14 PM furrywolf: this was a while ago, I may mis-remember things.
10:14 PM rue_mohr: no hey thats cool
10:14 PM rue_mohr: distortion mapping
10:15 PM rue_mohr: did it pick the lowest error?
10:15 PM furrywolf: yes
10:16 PM rue_mohr: cache the best answer kinda thing?
10:17 PM furrywolf: work hard for a sparse set of points, then use those as starting guesses for the points between them, and look around for the local minimum.
10:21 PM rue_mohr: ok, that should do it
10:22 PM furrywolf: if I ever make my 4th axis work, it'd be pretty easy to stick a 3d scanner attachment onto the mill... no need for another table and electronics.
10:25 PM furrywolf: and I could make it squiggle it around in x and y to get just the right angle. :)
10:25 PM rue_mohr: huh
10:25 PM rue_mohr: bad python
10:31 PM rue_mohr: trying again
10:34 PM furrywolf: I already want to make a camera attachment for the mill anyway to make perspective-free images of things
10:36 PM Tom_L: https://tomstinyshop.myshopify.com/pages/downloads
10:37 PM rue_mohr: software for Windows.
10:37 PM Tom_L: not the one i was looking for
10:40 PM Tom_L: https://sourceforge.net/projects/opencvlibrary/files/opencv-win/1.0/OpenCV_1.0.exe/download
10:40 PM Tom_L: still not it
10:40 PM Tom_L: might be worth a look though
10:43 PM Tom_L: https://www.usinages.com/threads/equivalent-centrecam.9494/
10:48 PM rue_mohr: well, it uses QT and its from 2009, so the code wont work
10:48 PM rue_mohr: and it looks like a touchy opencv thing
10:49 PM rue_mohr: ok , apparently all the images will be upside down...

10:50 PM rue_mohr: -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5964898 Jan 1 20:46 image001On.png
10:50 PM rue_mohr: tick, tick , tick
10:51 PM rue_mohr: tommorow, if I can stay awake, I'll try to snap a pic of my 1cm grid and work out distortion mapping
10:51 PM * rue_mohr pokes zhanx .... ugh...
10:53 PM rue_mohr: drat, over the light from the 3d printer, I cant see the laser go'in on and off
10:53 PM rue_mohr: from my room
10:53 PM rue_mohr: 4 images/min
10:53 PM rue_mohr: 3 hours ... ok
11:15 PM furrywolf: bbl, wolfy bedtime
11:22 PM rue_mohr: 74 degrees....
