06:30 PM zhanx: never mind a wiring check showed his z axis being screwed up
06:33 PM rue_mohr: the photo resin is only $1M/L
06:33 PM rue_mohr: and thats why they made a 0.5mm cube
06:34 PM rue_mohr: that must be the burnaby sort :)
06:34 PM rue_mohr: wow, thats a lot of statios too
06:35 PM rue_mohr: and yet, not a verry busy conveyor
06:35 PM zhanx: #define DEFAULT_AXIS_STEPS_PER_UNIT { 126,125,1704,51 }
06:35 PM zhanx: spot the issue
06:35 PM rue_mohr: I knew it was filo based
06:35 PM rue_mohr: 51 looks out
06:36 PM rue_mohr: should be about 98
06:36 PM zhanx: z is 1704
06:36 PM rue_mohr: yea
06:36 PM rue_mohr: threaded rod
06:36 PM zhanx: nope gt2 belts
06:37 PM rue_mohr: z?
06:37 PM zhanx: either way it works, he needs to tune it now
06:37 PM rue_mohr: lets see!
06:37 PM rue_mohr: damnit man post more images
06:38 PM rue_mohr: what real resolution is the webcam your gonna use for the scanner?
06:38 PM zhanx: 1080p
06:38 PM rue_mohr: like, the ccd, not the advertized
06:39 PM zhanx: its 1080p
06:39 PM rue_mohr: thats 1080 horizontal, progressive?
06:39 PM zhanx: yep
06:39 PM rue_mohr: k
06:39 PM zhanx: its an expensive one
06:40 PM rue_mohr: so, 1080x810?
06:40 PM zhanx: 1080x920
06:40 PM rue_mohr: everything I could find was fake resolution, you dig and find out the ccd is 640x480
06:42 PM rue_mohr: I cant remember the resoluition on the pi camera, but its insane
06:43 PM rue_mohr: 3200x2400?, something stupid
06:43 PM rue_mohr: cant find a sample image
06:43 PM rue_mohr: but, right now I have to redraw my houseplan
06:47 PM rue_mohr: hey I wonder if I can remember its IP address
06:49 PM rue_mohr: DHCPREQUEST for 192.168.9.242 from b8:27:eb:c8:7a:6b (raspberrypi) via eth2
06:49 PM rue_mohr: haha
06:51 PM rue_mohr: ok, 2592x1944
06:51 PM rue_mohr: crazy eh?
06:52 PM rue_mohr: apparently the camera is pointed at the cieling right now...
06:53 PM rue_mohr: ok, well thats the sample image for me to play with in SDL anyhow
06:53 PM rue_mohr: ugh, sun is gone arleady
06:59 PM zhanx: rue_mohr, i invited kwisher here
06:59 PM rue_mohr: ok
07:00 PM zhanx: low on knowledge strong on will
07:12 PM zhanx: https://kwdesign.duckdns.org/nextcloud/index.php/s/a9kxapG6zbgLjgw
07:13 PM zhanx: printer i help config and just saw it
07:17 PM rue_mohr: why is it being rebrained?
07:17 PM zhanx: it burnt out
07:17 PM rue_mohr: huh
07:17 PM rue_mohr: one of the early commercial ones that burned up randomly?
07:18 PM zhanx: no clue, i again invited him, i am going out tonight
07:18 PM rue_mohr: less breaking out a tape measure, I'd SWEAR thats a small wall rack
07:19 PM rue_mohr: takea squint, what do you think?
07:19 PM zhanx: Kwisher, rue_mohr , rue_mohr Kwisher
07:19 PM rue_mohr: about 12U?
07:19 PM Kwisher: hello all, rue_mohr
07:19 PM rue_mohr: hi
07:20 PM Kwisher: familiar with cura?
07:20 PM rue_mohr: cad? no
07:20 PM zhanx: rue_mohr, his printer works off maxes and uses MAC
07:20 PM zhanx: cura the slicer
07:20 PM rue_mohr: ah, no I use slic3r
07:21 PM zhanx: i got it to defaults and working now he needs to tune it
07:21 PM rue_mohr: k
07:22 PM rue_mohr: got that square? (the 100mm one I made)
07:22 PM zhanx: send it to Kwisher
07:22 PM rue_mohr: (scale test, its prolly square)
07:22 PM rue_mohr: eek, I have 7 hours left to do my houseplan
07:22 PM zhanx: i am leaving Kwisher in good hands
07:23 PM rue_mohr: Kwisher, do you have calipers?
07:23 PM Kwisher: yes
07:25 PM zhanx: Kwisher, config https://pastebin.com/haLRtkSa
07:26 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/objects/testsquare100-1.5-r1-s.stl
07:26 PM rue_mohr: print that, when you have it, measure from the left edge of one side to the left edge of the other, should be 100mm
07:26 PM rue_mohr: dont take it off the bed after printing it tho
07:27 PM rue_mohr: check it corner-corner and that'll ensure the hardware is still square
07:27 PM Kwisher: ok, might be a while
07:34 PM rue_mohr: should I ask where your at?
07:35 PM rue_mohr: :) tell me if I started too far ahead
07:36 PM Kwisher: i'm in #reprap now getting help
07:37 PM rue_mohr: sorry I'm down tot he last 7 hours to finish my house plan
07:37 PM rue_mohr: (i had all year)
07:40 PM rue_mohr: realize that you have to get whoever starts helping you to finish thru, you cant switch people, everyone uses a different method
08:02 PM Tom_L: wtf we have invaders
08:03 PM rue_mohr: those are called guests tom, put down the knife
08:03 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr, nothing like procrastination
08:03 PM Tom_L: ahh ok
08:03 PM Tom_L: :)
08:03 PM furrywolf: are they from space?
08:03 PM Tom_L: someone i know got their truck stolen tonight
08:03 PM rue_mohr: everything was created from supernovas, so, yes
08:04 PM Tom_L: furrywolf they shot thru a black hole
08:09 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr, how many packages did you order from china that you never got?
08:10 PM Tom_L: i'm betting they're at the bottom of that pile
08:10 PM rue_mohr: about 7
08:11 PM Tom_L: that guy's standing on one of them
08:14 PM rue_mohr: the one he's standing on is some guys $400 laser tube
08:14 PM Tom_L: was
08:19 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, out your back door "deck" or other?
08:19 PM Tom_L: huh?
08:20 PM rue_mohr: awning?
08:20 PM rue_mohr: the roof with the beam
08:20 PM Tom_L: what about it?
08:20 PM rue_mohr: what they call it
08:20 PM rue_mohr: deck, awning?
08:20 PM Tom_L: i call it a patio
08:20 PM rue_mohr: hmm
08:20 PM Tom_L: a deck would be attached to your house generally off the outside door
08:21 PM rue_mohr: and up off the ground
08:21 PM Tom_L: usually yes
08:21 PM rue_mohr: gonna put a 14' ... patio out off the front of the new shop
08:21 PM rue_mohr: what I DONT like it that its facing the street
08:22 PM Tom_L: bad bad idea
08:22 PM rue_mohr: I cant do anything about it
08:22 PM Tom_L: enclose it
08:22 PM rue_mohr: I'll have to just guard the hell out of it
08:23 PM Tom_L: enclose it
08:23 PM rue_mohr: well yea
08:23 PM Tom_L: at least on the visible sides
08:23 PM Tom_L: do you have restrictons up there?
08:23 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/patio/patio_index.php
08:24 PM Tom_L: there's mine
08:24 PM Tom_L: in case you have questions
08:24 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/patio/patio3.jpg
08:24 PM Tom_L: a hole
08:25 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/house/dscn7990.jpg
08:25 PM rue_mohr: the front of the patio would prettymuch be where the front of the house is now
08:25 PM rue_mohr: about 2 feet back for what its worth
08:25 PM Tom_L: is that the front of yours now?
08:26 PM Tom_L: don't think i've ever seen that angle
08:26 PM rue_mohr: no, tahts when I got the place
08:26 PM Tom_L: i thought it was further in on the property
08:26 PM Tom_L: oh
08:26 PM rue_mohr: erp, no, thats *just* after I bought it
08:26 PM rue_mohr: same diff
08:27 PM Tom_L: did you take that part down?
08:27 PM Tom_L: or what did you change
08:27 PM rue_mohr: nope
08:27 PM rue_mohr: the house is behind that
08:27 PM rue_mohr: I did put up more trees
08:27 PM Tom_L: yeah
08:27 PM rue_mohr: and there is a plant growing on the front
08:27 PM Tom_L: i've never seen it from that angle
08:28 PM Tom_L: usually from the back looking forward or to the side
08:28 PM Tom_L: the shop is off to the left rear right?
08:29 PM rue_mohr: the existing shop is *perfectly* behind the house
08:29 PM Tom_L: hmm, ok
08:29 PM Tom_L: so the patio will be between them?
08:29 PM rue_mohr: unfortunatly, I didn't know the house was crookid on the lot when I lined the shop up with it
08:29 PM rue_mohr: no,
08:29 PM rue_mohr: the new house will excavate down
08:30 PM rue_mohr: the bottom floor will be the new shop with the entrance in the front
08:30 PM rue_mohr: and the house ontop
08:30 PM rue_mohr: the shop would have a 14' x 20' patio infront of it
08:30 PM Tom_L: so you're gonna tear out the whole house?
08:30 PM rue_mohr: part of which would be a deck on the front of the house
08:30 PM rue_mohr: I have to
08:30 PM rue_mohr: there is nowhere else to put a building
08:30 PM Tom_L: where you gonna live during this?
08:31 PM rue_mohr: might built a 96'^2
08:31 PM Tom_L: temporary?
08:32 PM rue_mohr: unless I screw up, yes
08:32 PM Tom_L: what sort of utilities do you have?
08:32 PM rue_mohr: (this is where I get hit with a medical problem that leaves me sleeping under newpapers in an alley)
08:32 PM Tom_L: septic system or city?
08:32 PM rue_mohr: septic system
08:33 PM rue_mohr: just redid it tho, its ok
08:33 PM Tom_L: where is it?
08:33 PM Tom_L: to the left?
08:33 PM Tom_L: or behind
08:33 PM rue_mohr: no, the old one (when I bought it) is UNDER the house
08:33 PM Tom_L: holy crap
08:33 PM rue_mohr: it was failing, we put a new tank in at the bottom of the driveway, and ran a line to a field waaaay in the back
08:33 PM Tom_L: 2 laterals?
08:33 PM rue_mohr: so the current tank is piped via the D-box into the new tank
08:34 PM rue_mohr: no, like 6, they were under the house
08:34 PM rue_mohr: most of them
08:34 PM Tom_L: i didn't think you could do that
08:34 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/house/dscn7990.jpg
08:34 PM rue_mohr: fromt he peak the right side is a trailer
08:34 PM rue_mohr: they put that there first, with the septic system to the left
08:34 PM rue_mohr: then they put the addition on, overtop of the septic system
08:35 PM Tom_L: i see
08:35 PM rue_mohr: so that whole left half is over the system
08:35 PM Tom_L: i knew half was a trailer
08:35 PM Tom_L: but didn't know which side
08:35 PM rue_mohr: if they hadn't done that, i would have the option of just tearing out the trailer and rebuilding that half
08:35 PM Tom_L: you should move that off to the left and build where the house is
08:35 PM rue_mohr: but, they also boned it by using the trailer as support for the right half of the addition
08:35 PM Tom_L: after removing the old one
08:36 PM rue_mohr: its already up against the line
08:36 PM Tom_L: on the left or right side?
08:36 PM rue_mohr: technically, its a manufactured home, cause they cut the hitch and wheels off
08:36 PM rue_mohr: its up against the lot on the right side
08:37 PM Tom_L: that's what i was thinking
08:37 PM Tom_L: have you considered a manufactured house?
08:37 PM Tom_L: due to time constraints it would be a good way to go
08:37 PM rue_mohr: how am I gonna make that work with a shop
08:37 PM Tom_L: they did one up the street a while back in about a month
08:38 PM Tom_L: that's the problem...
08:38 PM rue_mohr: everybody keeps suggesting it, its just gonna scerw me over
08:38 PM Tom_L: how wide is the lot?
08:39 PM Tom_L: nowdays here you need a 6' easment
08:39 PM rue_mohr: 19.04m
08:39 PM rue_mohr: yea, thats most of my battle
08:39 PM Tom_L: i got my garage done with 3'
08:39 PM rue_mohr: they increated the setback since the lot was made
08:39 PM rue_mohr: I have to pull prolly every trick in the book
08:39 PM Tom_L: will they grandfather it in?
08:39 PM rue_mohr: there are about 4 levels of tricks
08:40 PM rue_mohr: I have to ask if I can pull most of them :)
08:40 PM Tom_L: find out ahead of the fact instead of after :)
08:40 PM rue_mohr: yes, step 1 is to get the position etc approved
08:45 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/property.jpg
08:45 PM Tom_L: that's my layout
08:45 PM rue_mohr: haha you drafted your place too
08:45 PM rue_mohr: hahaha, were insane
08:46 PM Tom_L: i got trees, sewer, sprinklers, concrete pretty much all of it
08:46 PM rue_mohr: I got a survey a few years back to locate buildings etc properly
08:46 PM Tom_L: i did my own 'survey'
08:47 PM rue_mohr: yea, I couldn't shoot a straight line for one side
08:47 PM rue_mohr: and the errors in the trig were killing me
08:47 PM Tom_L: i came 'close'
08:47 PM Tom_L: it's saved my ass a time or two
08:48 PM rue_mohr: :)
08:48 PM rue_mohr: I need to clean mine up
08:48 PM Tom_L: but i hate acad now
08:48 PM Tom_L: and nearly forgot how to use it
08:48 PM rue_mohr: there is a bunch of notes for stuff I have to add to it
08:50 PM rue_mohr: I'm hand bombing this cause I can do it faster
08:51 PM Tom_L: be accurate
08:51 PM rue_mohr: lots of this is just "can I or not"
08:52 PM Tom_L: spending the next couple days doing taxes
08:53 PM Tom_L: that's _my_ 'happy newyear'
08:54 PM rue_mohr: ...
08:55 PM rue_mohr: maybe this should have two sets of front doors...
08:55 PM Tom_L: too many places to break in
08:56 PM Tom_L: my neighbor put up a patio the same time i did
08:57 PM Tom_L: only he's well... not quite a macguiver
08:57 PM rue_mohr: its the nack tom
08:57 PM Tom_L: i never pulled a permit on mine and they came to look at his and gave him a bunch of crap over it
08:57 PM * furrywolf doesn't have anything. :(
08:57 PM Tom_L: they glanced over at mine and never said a word
08:58 PM rue_mohr: yours is stil there tho
08:58 PM Tom_L: so is his
08:58 PM Tom_L: but it looks like it could go any minute
08:59 PM rue_mohr: I dont know how to layout this shop tom
08:59 PM rue_mohr: furrywolf, pls send me a floorplan of your dream shop
09:00 PM Tom_L: how much sq footage do you have?
09:00 PM rue_mohr: 1200
09:00 PM Tom_L: how big is your current shop?
09:01 PM Tom_L: and what will it become after this project?
09:01 PM rue_mohr: plus plus 420'^2 awning space
09:01 PM rue_mohr: current shop is 480
09:01 PM rue_mohr: it'll become a rental
09:01 PM rue_mohr: to pay for new house
09:01 PM rue_mohr: or swap
09:01 PM rue_mohr: and I'll live in the old shop and rent out the 1200 house
09:01 PM furrywolf: rue_mohr: dream shop? like the 65000ft2 one? :P
09:02 PM rue_mohr: (floor over shop)
09:02 PM rue_mohr: furrywolf, sure sure, show me floorplan!
09:02 PM Tom_L: furrywolf that's what my bud did
09:02 PM furrywolf: this is easy....
09:02 PM furrywolf: ______
09:02 PM furrywolf: | |
09:02 PM furrywolf: """"""
09:02 PM furrywolf: :P
09:02 PM Tom_L: went from a 24 x 24 garage tp a 6k sq ft to a 65k one
09:03 PM rue_mohr: na, cmon, you need to sketch quiptment layout fur
09:03 PM rue_mohr: where does the lathe, mill, drillpress go
09:03 PM Tom_L: my mill sits behind the car in the garage
09:03 PM rue_mohr: where do the 3d printers live
09:03 PM furrywolf: ANYWHERE I WANT THEM TO! Muahahahaha!
09:03 PM Tom_L: my lathe sits in a tiny room behind the other car
09:04 PM Tom_L: the 3d printers sit on a shelf along the back wall
09:04 PM rue_mohr: furrywolf, would you consider being a henchman for a living?
09:04 PM Tom_L: just below the material rack that hangs from the celing
09:05 PM furrywolf: nah, being a henchwolfy sucks. the minions should be working for you. :)
09:05 PM Tom_L: sell crack, apparently there's good money in it
09:05 PM rue_mohr: I'm wondering if I should take someone on to help with stuff
09:05 PM rue_mohr: I provide place to live etc
09:05 PM Tom_L: you can't trust them
09:06 PM Tom_L: they'll take advantage of you
09:06 PM Tom_L: then you'll have to sell their drum set as colateral
09:06 PM rue_mohr: I suppose, for a 30' floor span, I'm gonna need a support eh?
09:06 PM Tom_L: yes
09:07 PM Tom_L: unless you do fabricated truss's
09:07 PM furrywolf: you can easily do 30ft with a truss.
09:07 PM rue_mohr: they would have to be like 24" or soemthing stupid
09:07 PM rue_mohr: for a floor over then
09:07 PM Tom_L: maybe
09:07 PM Tom_L: maybe not
09:08 PM Tom_L: do you plan to set a bridgeport on top of them?
09:08 PM furrywolf: you can easily build a truss that will span 30ft and hold a bridgeport, too. it will just cost more.
09:08 PM Tom_L: consider a metal structure?
09:08 PM rue_mohr: thats a good point, I wonder if I should put some crawlspace under the shop floor
09:09 PM Tom_L: yeah, with an elevator
09:09 PM Tom_L: at least 2 floors down
09:09 PM rue_mohr: :) 10' crawl space
09:09 PM rue_mohr: I'm trying to avoid the concrete thats involved for that
09:09 PM furrywolf: consider that a 30ft bridge, that you can drive big trucks over, is considered a very small bridge.
09:10 PM rue_mohr: I dont think I'll ever get equip heavy enought o worry about needing to put slab on grade
09:10 PM rue_mohr: furrywolf, till ya stick the static load of living space on it
09:12 PM furrywolf: in any case, a 30ft floor truss is something your local truss shop will have ready to order.
09:13 PM rue_mohr: I'll ask the engineeeeer and get costing
09:13 PM rue_mohr: but floorplan, cmon, help me out a little
09:13 PM Tom_L: list what you need space for
09:14 PM Tom_L: draw a square box around those items with reasonable workspace for them
09:14 PM rue_mohr: hahah
09:14 PM rue_mohr: ah pls no dont make me...
09:14 PM Tom_L: then put the jigsaw puzzle together
09:14 PM rue_mohr: think wood + metal + software...
09:14 PM rue_mohr: with 3d printing andc 4x8 cnc
09:14 PM Tom_L: software can be anywhere
09:15 PM Tom_L: we decided the 3d printers were along the back wall on a shelf
09:15 PM Tom_L: 3 shelves full
09:15 PM Tom_L: 2 per shelf
09:15 PM Tom_L: just below the material rack hanging from the celing
09:16 PM furrywolf: with standard loads, a 30ft span with trusses 16" on center only needs 2x4 wood trusses 22" deep.
09:21 PM rue_mohr: furrywolf, look, close your eyes for a sec.
09:21 PM rue_mohr: no wait, not yet
09:21 PM rue_mohr: invision this, you walk into the shop, what do you see, infront, left and right
09:21 PM rue_mohr: imagine with me
09:21 PM furrywolf: nothing, since my eyes are closed.
09:22 PM furrywolf: followed by flashing lights when I walk into something, fall, and whack my head.
09:22 PM * furrywolf hides
09:24 PM Tom_L: in front is a clearly marked work isle, to the right is a row of cnc mills and just to the rear of them is a couple cnc lathes
09:24 PM rue_mohr: nono, this is good, flashing lights, ok, thats a start
09:24 PM furrywolf: lol
09:24 PM Tom_L: in the far back center is a room with a screw compressor and to the right of that is the debur room
09:24 PM rue_mohr: ouch, compressor outside dude, but ok
09:24 PM Tom_L: off to the left is a hallway that leads to the wood shop
09:25 PM rue_mohr: hallway
09:25 PM rue_mohr: walls?
09:25 PM Tom_L: no the compressor is in a room by itself
09:25 PM rue_mohr: walls take up a lot of space
09:25 PM Tom_L: walls make good hanging spots
09:25 PM rue_mohr: well, there are 4
09:25 PM rue_mohr: and 3 posts spaced ~10 feet
09:25 PM rue_mohr: but ok
09:26 PM rue_mohr: I suppose some things could have walls, bathroom...
09:26 PM Tom_L: no bathroom
09:26 PM Tom_L: you can pee out back
09:26 PM rue_mohr: I know the building is too low
09:26 PM Tom_L: 12' celings
09:27 PM rue_mohr: oh good point
09:27 PM rue_mohr: mayeb 9.5
09:27 PM rue_mohr: or 10
09:27 PM rue_mohr: tbar cieling
09:27 PM furrywolf: ... peeing out back is not socially acceptable, annoying in bad weather, and even more annoying if you're not a stand-to-pee type...
09:27 PM Tom_L: oh and remember all that storage space you have above your current shop in the 'attic' ?
09:27 PM rue_mohr: wait, deburr room?
09:28 PM Tom_L: yes
09:28 PM Tom_L: it's a 'dirty' room
09:28 PM rue_mohr: is that like a layout room?
09:28 PM rue_mohr: hmm
09:28 PM rue_mohr: so kinda
09:28 PM Tom_L: your 'clean' room is on the other side with all the measuring instruments
09:28 PM rue_mohr: oooh
09:28 PM Tom_L: no the layout room is in the cad room
09:28 PM Tom_L: beside the office
09:28 PM rue_mohr: ya know, the shop collects about 1mm dust/month, a cleanroom might be a thing
09:29 PM Tom_L: the cad room has 4 computers and an old drafting table and a bunch of file cabinets
09:29 PM Tom_L: with a naked lady on the wall
09:29 PM Tom_L: of course...
09:29 PM rue_mohr: I could put my old drafting table in there
09:29 PM Tom_L: the clean room is climate controlled for quality control
09:29 PM rue_mohr: can the naked lady go in the corner in the chill-space with the couch and coffeetable?
09:30 PM * furrywolf does not plan on having any such artwork
09:30 PM Tom_L: no that's in the private office
09:30 PM Tom_L: i swear my bud tried and tried to get dimmableflourescent bulbs in his office
09:30 PM rue_mohr: furrywolf, your temping me to send you links of what Id think you might have
09:30 PM Tom_L: it never worked
09:30 PM rue_mohr: no, thats silly
09:30 PM rue_mohr: even dimmable led is hit-and-miss
09:31 PM Tom_L: they didn't have led then
09:31 PM furrywolf: rue_mohr: sorry, you'll need to keep your midget porn collection to yourself. :)
09:31 PM rue_mohr: furrywolf, cmon, dream shop, gimma ideas
09:31 PM Tom_L: http://gnipsel.com/shop/inside/inside.xhtml
09:32 PM rue_mohr: you know
09:32 PM rue_mohr: its funny
09:32 PM Tom_L: http://gnipsel.com/shop/foundation/foundation.xhtml
09:32 PM rue_mohr: I know some electricians who tried to follow a lighting layout like that to the mm
09:32 PM rue_mohr: days and days
09:33 PM Tom_L: http://gnipsel.com/shop/roofing/roofing.xhtml
09:33 PM Tom_L: that's jt's
09:33 PM Tom_L: he's built another one since
09:33 PM rue_mohr: na, I need layout advise
09:34 PM Tom_L: http://gnipsel.com/cannon/cannon-11.xhtml
09:34 PM Tom_L: everybody needs one of those
09:34 PM rue_mohr: hahaha
09:35 PM Tom_L: it works
09:35 PM rue_mohr: there was nothing quite like the day the neighbour leaned over and said "errr, you ok?"
09:35 PM Tom_L: http://gnipsel.com/cannon/videos/cannon04.mov
09:35 PM rue_mohr: the propane exploded in the boiler...
09:35 PM rue_mohr: my ear rang for like 3 days
09:41 PM rue_mohr: ok how high is this cieling gonna be
09:41 PM Tom_L: 12'
09:41 PM rue_mohr: more than standard, I regretted that in my existing shop
09:41 PM rue_mohr: no, I cant go crazy, it'll push up the house too much
09:42 PM rue_mohr: even 9' would be awesome
09:42 PM Tom_L: the house is gonna be 2 shipping containers burried under the shop floor
09:42 PM rue_mohr: hah
09:42 PM rue_mohr: optimism
09:42 PM rue_mohr: furrywolf,
09:42 PM Tom_L: they just finished a business here using them
09:42 PM rue_mohr: furrywolf, tell me what equip you have in storage
09:42 PM Tom_L: about 8-10 welded together
09:43 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, tell me about more shops you know of
09:44 PM rue_mohr: I only have the highschool machine shop to draw on, and its not the same
09:44 PM Tom_L: i told you
09:45 PM furrywolf: in storage, sherline mill, sherline lathe, shopmaster lathe/mill combo, 4x8 router table. in someone's barn, the big b&s mill and the clausing lathe. also in storage, two drill presses, two brake lathes, part of a line bore machine, a half ton or so of random tooling, a complete set of measuring tools including a couple surface plates, a valve grinder, a valve seat grinder, a complete set of auto shop tools,...
09:45 PM Tom_L: https://www.clearwateren.com/about.html
09:45 PM Tom_L: that's after he sold it
09:46 PM rue_mohr: whats a brake lathe...
09:46 PM Tom_L: equipment list is there
09:46 PM Tom_L: probably with a foot brake
09:46 PM Tom_L: i'd guess
09:47 PM rue_mohr: work centre!
09:47 PM rue_mohr: thats an idea
09:47 PM furrywolf: a brake lathe is a lathe designed for turning brake rotors and drums, and sometimes flywheels.
09:47 PM rue_mohr: furrywolf, how would you want it laid out in a shop?
09:47 PM furrywolf: it's shaped so that automotive brake parts fit in it, and moves in the way that makes them nice.
09:47 PM rue_mohr: oooh
09:47 PM rue_mohr: k
09:48 PM rue_mohr: so, the problems I have are with what to do with the hotwork and messy tools
09:48 PM rue_mohr: aka, the wood tools & dust
09:48 PM furrywolf: I have two... one normal stand-alone one that you stick a brake drum on, and one on-vehicle disc brake rotor lathe, that turns the rotors without removing them, which is both faster and turns them true to the vehicle's bearings and hubs, for extra-perfectness.
09:48 PM Tom_L: cyclone with ducts to them all
09:48 PM Tom_L: helps
09:48 PM Tom_L: overhead exhaust
09:48 PM rue_mohr: and the grinding/cutting tools with sparks and mess
09:48 PM Tom_L: i have one of those
09:49 PM Tom_L: 12" duct on a squirrel cage
09:49 PM furrywolf: by turning the rotors on the hubs, it cancels out any imperfections in the hubs or wheel bearings, giving you extra-perfectly-true rotors.
09:49 PM rue_mohr: furrywolf, what lead to so many auto toolings?
09:49 PM furrywolf: I work on cars a lot, and I've bought a large set of the contents from two different shops that closed.
09:49 PM rue_mohr: ok
09:50 PM rue_mohr: ok, so, floor of shop, should I false it and /or put in wireways?
09:50 PM furrywolf: I have three big rolling toolboxes of handtools, plus just about every air tool that exists...
09:50 PM furrywolf: though those were mostly things I purchased when I needed them, not part of the lots.
09:51 PM Tom_L: my bud's old shop has a racecar sitting in the middle with a compressor, cnc, bridgeport and lathe around the outter walls
09:51 PM Tom_L: along with the car trailer sitting beside the car that sits on a hydraulic lift
09:51 PM rue_mohr: a 1200 squre foot shop, how do ya enclose the wood equip and still have room to move things around
09:51 PM Tom_L: and worktables between the compressor and cnc
09:51 PM Tom_L: you don't
09:52 PM rue_mohr: cause, on your idea of walls and clean rooms, I could see having 'glass walls' or soemnthing to contain mess
09:52 PM Tom_L: tooling shelves sit behind the cnc out of the way
09:52 PM Tom_L: ie cutters etc
09:53 PM furrywolf: I also have... about six air compressors, four bench grinders, every normal power tool, tons of weird power tools, a 15x6 planer (for wood), an 8" jointer, dust collector for those two machines, various planes and such,...
09:53 PM Tom_L: and no room to use them
09:53 PM furrywolf: correct.
09:53 PM Tom_L: sucks
09:53 PM rue_mohr: furrywolf, space layout, what would you do if you could
09:54 PM furrywolf: I just got a nice 8" bench grinder three weeks ago... it'll make most of my other ones surplus.
09:54 PM furrywolf: it's fucking scary... it spins way too fast for how big it is. heh.
09:54 PM Tom_L: i'd have a 6k sq ft metal building with 15' celings
09:54 PM rue_mohr: cant, lots not large enough
09:54 PM Tom_L: with a sheetrocked area for office, inspection and on the other side a debur room
09:54 PM furrywolf: my other ones are 6" with undersized motors.
09:54 PM rue_mohr: and, just over 60 feet I have 2m grade diff
09:55 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, I have the house ontop too
09:55 PM Tom_L: they made shovels for that rue
09:55 PM furrywolf: I don't have any tools over 1" drive, so I'm not equipped to be a heavy equipment shop. heh.
09:55 PM rue_mohr: yea, the idea is to put the house in a huge nook w/lockblocks
09:55 PM furrywolf: I do, however, have a 4ft long snap-on ratchet, and matching 4ft long torque wrench, for big things. :)
09:56 PM Tom_L: now stop distracting me..
09:56 PM rue_mohr: if I do a 1m crawlspace, I can put supports up to the floor for heavy stuff
09:56 PM rue_mohr: lathe, etc
09:57 PM rue_mohr: ok 1200'^2 open, I'm calling that floorplan done
09:57 PM rue_mohr: I can box in things later if I want
09:57 PM rue_mohr: I like the idea of the cleanroom tho
09:58 PM Tom_L: the debur room was noisy
09:58 PM Tom_L: had the vibra tumbler etc in it
09:58 PM Tom_L: that's why it sat beside the screw compressor room
09:59 PM furrywolf: http://fw.bushytails.net/airtools08.jpg that was the air tool collection at my last house... it's maybe half of what I have now, and everything I got since then is an addition or improvement to the selection.
09:59 PM rue_mohr: so far, compressor, welder, grinder are outside in the awening
09:59 PM rue_mohr: nice
10:01 PM rue_mohr: the tails on the airtools are attractive
10:01 PM rue_mohr: then they dont leak like all hell cause of side load
10:01 PM furrywolf: oh yeah, welders... I have a big miller 250A ac/dc welder in storage, over two dozen oxy/acetylene/co2/argon/etc tanks, a couple torch setups of different sizes and types, about 200lbs of rod (7018 and 6011 mostly, with only a couple boxes each of stainless or other odd things, plus a bunch of brazing rods), two wire feeders, ...
10:02 PM furrywolf: plus I have my welder-generator here, along with about 200ft of leads.
10:04 PM furrywolf: two plasma cutters
10:05 PM furrywolf: and nowhere to use any of it, because every single fucking thing there combined isn't worth as much as a small plot of land is around here...
10:08 PM furrywolf: I have a nice CM electric chain hoist and trolley that I could be using to lift things instead of hurting my back, but I have no bridge to hang it from...
10:08 PM rue_mohr: furrywolf, what should min.size for a cargo elevator be?
10:08 PM furrywolf: big enough to fit your forklift in.
10:08 PM rue_mohr: ha! I dont have one, so thats nto verry big at all!
10:09 PM rue_mohr: well, the hallway is...
10:09 PM furrywolf: forklifts are one of the best things ever.
10:09 PM rue_mohr: 32" and my hallway is TOO SMALL
10:10 PM rue_mohr: 40 might be ok
10:10 PM rue_mohr: how about 1.5m
10:10 PM rue_mohr: there is room
10:10 PM rue_mohr: 5'
10:13 PM furrywolf: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUHE-E-DOVI&feature=youtu.be&t=1951 what do you think of her suit?
10:13 PM furrywolf: bah, that was supposed to be a message to someone.
10:13 PM * furrywolf kicks self
10:21 PM rue_mohr: hmm house floor plan
10:22 PM rue_mohr: landing puts the wrong way...
10:23 PM Tom_L: keep in mind sunrise sunset and where the windows are for each living space
10:24 PM Tom_L: you want the sun in your face when you're frying eggs?
10:25 PM furrywolf: no, I want the sun on the eggs. :P
10:37 PM rue_mohr: hmm whats a good way to have an outdoor accessable bathroom
10:37 PM furrywolf: a door.
10:37 PM rue_mohr: !
10:37 PM rue_mohr: that seems to defeat the accessability!!!!
10:40 PM furrywolf: I guess I don't understand what you're asking, then.
10:41 PM rue_mohr: :) I dont either
10:42 PM Tom_L: outhouse with a 'moon' cutout in the door
10:42 PM furrywolf: bah. go watch more furry porn or something. :P
10:46 PM rue_mohr: I'd like to do a bathroom accessable from outside, but without that stupid double door thing
10:48 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, your sliding door 6'?
10:49 PM Tom_L: no sliding door here
10:51 PM furrywolf: make the bathroom round, with the wall on rollers, and a single opening in the wall. rotate the wall so the opening faces inside, outside, or a blind (closed) position.
10:51 PM rue_mohr: thought you had one to your patio
10:52 PM rue_mohr: furrywolf, ok, technically, yes, you solved it...
10:52 PM rue_mohr: if a living room is 30' wide, how deep should it be?
10:52 PM rue_mohr: like 6inches?
10:55 PM Tom_L: 15 x 12ish
10:58 PM rue_mohr: its 30x12 so far
11:00 PM Tom_L: wasted space
11:01 PM rue_mohr: <storage>
11:01 PM rue_mohr: :D
11:01 PM rue_mohr: furrywolf, ok, so, no more shop suggesttions eh?
