12:34 AM zhanx: quite
01:28 AM zhanx: rue upload the next parts when you can, I want to tear down the printer sunday and do all the upgrades to it
09:36 AM rue_bed: I totally went to bed without supper
09:36 AM rue_bed: thought it'd be a nap
09:36 AM rue_bed: I need ya to show me where your at
09:37 AM rue_bed: did the pinion fit the motor ok? how did the nut fit?
05:19 PM rue_ is now known as rue_mohr
07:39 PM rue_shop1: ok, new printer
07:39 PM rue_shop1: lets see here
07:51 PM Tom_L: i fear printers are taking over your whole shop
07:58 PM rue_shop1: no, I made a rack for them in the livingroom
07:58 PM rue_shop1: but I'm not sure where I'll put the chocolate/wax/silicone/sugar printer
07:59 PM rue_shop1: / clay
07:59 PM rue_shop1: :/ I started a print, and its still set to honeycomb infill... drat
08:00 PM rue_shop1: so Its a matter of running the new machine thru its paces now
08:00 PM Tom_L: that should go in the kitchen of course
08:00 PM rue_shop1: work it hard, see what breaks
08:00 PM rue_shop1: not sure
08:00 PM rue_shop1: I'm looking forward to doing some lost wax castings tho
08:00 PM rue_shop1: suppose I should play with that in the meantime
08:00 PM rue_shop1: you done any lost wax?
08:00 PM Tom_L: how are you gonna deposit the wax?
08:00 PM Tom_L: no
08:01 PM Tom_L: andypugh in #linuxcnc has done several castings but i'm not sure about lost wax
08:01 PM rue_shop1: I'm gonna force it thru warm
08:01 PM Tom_L: machine parts
08:02 PM rue_shop1: its more in the jewlery isle
08:02 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnBraegy6lA
08:02 PM Tom_L: one he did
08:03 PM Tom_L: just jump to the end
08:03 PM Tom_L: https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2F3.bp.blogspot.com%2F-wTlJoPVEuZ8%2FWSSFzlWZRaI%2FAAAAAAAAIm8%2FlgQ6gfRpVz0BZS17N2S-NjHPUcbgSWvzgCEw%2Fs1600%2FIMG_3022.jpg&imgrefurl=http%3A%2F%2Fbodgesoc.blogspot.com%2F&docid=eA17x_X9kDVnAM&tbnid=0vY0W6c7ryTvsM%3A&vet=10ahUKEwjD3uHf7bTfAhVHYK0KHZLeBlYQMwhEKAQwBA..i&w=1600&h=1200&client=firefox-b-1&bih=656&biw=1043&q=andypugh%20casting&ved=0ahUKEwjD3uHf7bTfAhVHYK0KHZLeBlYQMwhEKAQwBA&iact=mrc&uact=8
08:04 PM Tom_L: a little excessive for a pic
08:05 PM rue_shop1: nice casts tho!
08:05 PM Tom_L: he did the molds and had a company cast them
08:05 PM rue_shop1: ah
08:05 PM Tom_L: pretty cheap really
08:06 PM rue_shop1: yea, I'm not good with the cleanness of the metal, I think I'm casting a bit cold
08:06 PM Tom_L: he did a whole gearbox for one
08:06 PM rue_shop1: need a probe
08:07 PM Tom_L: on probes... he just got a faro 3d scanner arm
08:08 PM rue_shop1: hmm, layer height might be a bit too much
08:08 PM rue_shop1: oof 0.3mm
08:08 PM rue_shop1: yea
08:09 PM rue_shop1: the new machine will be interesting from the aspect of having a limited supply volume to print with
08:09 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSLB-ue4CTI&index=47&list=UUexvgsGz_QFvOublovDYoTQ&t=0s
08:09 PM Tom_L: cover for one of his machines
08:10 PM Tom_L: i dunno what the stuff is he's milling but it must burn away or he uses that to make a cast mold
08:10 PM Tom_L: i dunno
08:13 PM Tom_L: can't find the gearbox one
09:11 PM rue_shop1: zhanx, how did the nuts go? did they fit?
09:53 PM zhanx: fit no, but i will make them fit
10:05 PM rue_shop1: it may be close, I had to use the 2 ton arbour for mine
10:05 PM rue_shop1: I could adjust the print if you want to help me tune
10:06 PM rue_shop1: can you measure the size error?
10:06 PM zhanx: tomorrow wrapping presents
10:06 PM rue_shop1: :) good show
10:10 PM rue_shop1: I wonder if I should make some printers and sell them, I'd like to make a few more to refine some things
10:10 PM rue_shop1: but I totally got no more space for printers
10:12 PM rue_shop1: I'll need to tweek the bed on this one tho, it came out a little too bouncy
10:13 PM zhanx: we need to talk preventing print warpish soon
10:14 PM rue_shop1: slowing down should clean it up a lot
10:15 PM rue_shop1: I adjust my part deisgns to avoid issues with the contraction
10:15 PM rue_shop1: also, most of the warpage happens about the 5th layer (hey, do a time lapse and you can see it)
10:15 PM rue_shop1: so if you are done with solid layers by then, there is less pulling
10:20 PM zhanx: slow down where
10:21 PM zhanx: I will do a time lapse also
10:23 PM rue_shop1: I have seen it somehow, but after a few layers, there is like *suddenly* some shrinkage thing
10:23 PM rue_shop1: I'd love to see a time lapse
10:23 PM rue_shop1: the 2:1 will get rid of that snag/skipped steps problem
10:23 PM zhanx: I have octprint so i can use that also
10:24 PM zhanx: I wiped the bed and used hair spray
10:24 PM rue_shop1: hair spray instead of tape?
10:24 PM zhanx: i have 3 large parts to print for the 3d scanner. both
10:24 PM rue_shop1: usually you need a hot bed for hair spray
10:25 PM rue_shop1: ah
10:25 PM zhanx: wife had a little hair spray left
10:25 PM rue_shop1: usually alc will pull up enough of the glue
10:26 PM zhanx: wife said i can order a heated bed
10:26 PM zhanx: so that is a bonus next month
10:26 PM rue_shop3: mhm
10:26 PM rue_shop3: I keep breaking them
10:26 PM rue_shop3: killed 4 now
10:26 PM zhanx: wont be till next month due to xmas and i will glass plate it
10:27 PM rue_shop3: yea, the elements fine, I cant keep glass in tact
10:27 PM rue_shop3: thick, thin or mirror
10:27 PM rue_shop3: *snap*
10:27 PM rue_shop3: the ABS STINKS too
10:28 PM zhanx: wife told me order black and white pla she wants somethings printed. So i know I am in the clear now
10:28 PM rue_shop3: have two rolls of it
10:28 PM rue_shop3: :
10:28 PM rue_shop3: :/
10:28 PM rue_shop3: I'm really glad its a hit
10:29 PM zhanx: same here, i was worried about it
10:29 PM zhanx: now she is like, "Hey we have a 3d printer at home" etc
10:29 PM rue_shop3: :)
10:29 PM rue_shop3: for less than $1000
10:30 PM zhanx: yep
10:30 PM rue_shop3: (but sure as to hell more than it should have been)
10:30 PM rue_shop3: :/
10:30 PM zhanx: 200 now
10:30 PM rue_shop3: what!?
10:30 PM rue_shop3: your only at 200?
10:30 PM zhanx: well that is filament costs also
10:30 PM rue_shop3: WITH filament!!!!
10:30 PM rue_shop3: geez
10:30 PM rue_shop3: my first machine was $250
10:30 PM zhanx: weird, my printer is over heating
10:31 PM rue_shop3: overshooting?
10:31 PM rue_shop3: or is the fet failing?
10:31 PM zhanx: wait no the laptop overheated
10:31 PM rue_shop3: ah
10:33 PM zhanx: and now i realize the cat was sleeping on it
10:33 PM rue_shop3: heh
10:34 PM rue_shop3: I need to step back and look carefully over my priorities
10:34 PM rue_shop3: I need to hit exponential progress
10:35 PM rue_shop3: and to do it, I need to not be doing it all manually
10:36 PM rue_shop3: and I need finances at an almost criminal rate
10:36 PM zhanx: right now for me. make the bed for the 3d scanner. mix in the wife's stuff
10:37 PM zhanx: scanner comes first
10:37 PM rue_shop3: yea, I'm kinda living 3 lives right now, and their all hurting
10:37 PM rue_shop3: as can be told by the huge dust bunnies in the corners of the house
10:37 PM zhanx: yep
10:37 PM rue_shop3: and me walking into work almost completely asleep almost every day of the week
10:37 PM zhanx: I am juggling work, kids, this
10:38 PM rue_shop3: and the mess the shop is in
10:38 PM rue_shop3: arg
10:39 PM rue_shop3: I was given a del M6800 with "video card problems" but have yet to notice any issues
10:51 PM zhanx: ok combo is sticking good so far
10:52 PM rue_shop3: oh the issue isn't the stick
10:52 PM zhanx: its the warp
10:52 PM rue_shop3: most prints could generate enough force to break the glass
10:53 PM rue_shop3: the problem is managing the shrinkage
10:53 PM zhanx: k
10:53 PM rue_shop3: when you print slow, there is less shrinkage occuring on the trace tail
10:53 PM rue_shop3: as is when your dial down the extrusion temp
10:53 PM zhanx: see i asked how to print slow
10:53 PM rue_shop3: you want to be as low as you can go on the temp before the binding is insufficient
10:53 PM zhanx: k
10:54 PM rue_shop3: the print speed in pronterface
10:54 PM rue_shop3: dial it down
10:54 PM rue_shop3: 75%, 50%
10:54 PM zhanx: so it extrudes this filament at 187
10:54 PM rue_shop3: 30% even for the first ~5 layers
10:54 PM zhanx: so use that or the 190
10:54 PM rue_shop3: k
10:54 PM rue_shop3: I'm "185"
10:54 PM rue_shop3: its not calibrated tho
10:54 PM zhanx: 187 is starts to ooze
10:54 PM rue_shop3: so I dont know what that really is
10:55 PM zhanx: comes out of the extruder on its own
10:55 PM zhanx: my 187 is 189 according to my ir temp probe
11:02 PM rue_shop1: sounds pretty hot to me
11:02 PM rue_shop1: how low can you go?
11:02 PM zhanx: i will try it tomorrow
11:02 PM rue_shop1: (changing temp will affect the extrusion multiplier)
11:02 PM zhanx: useing the 100mm cube
11:02 PM zhanx: oh great
11:03 PM rue_shop1: no, make 8mm washers
11:03 PM rue_shop1: they are usefull
11:03 PM zhanx: k
11:03 PM zhanx: those test pieces have saved me issues for sure
11:04 PM zhanx: so that is 1500 bucks wrapped up
11:04 PM zhanx: wife better love it
11:04 PM rue_shop1: (:o
11:05 PM rue_shop1: next year, a roll of pla might be a good one
11:05 PM zhanx: for me maybe
11:06 PM rue_shop1: your machine must be gettin pretty close to plug-n-play by now
11:06 PM zhanx: close
11:06 PM rue_shop1: load object, slice, print
11:06 PM zhanx: its still a check the bed, I need to get a better mount system
11:06 PM rue_shop1: pause, scrape, restart, curse, pause, scrape, restart...
11:07 PM zhanx: yep
11:07 PM rue_shop1: :)
11:07 PM rue_shop1: I dont have to fight with them much at all now
11:07 PM zhanx: mine is more of a tweak and print than a fight
11:07 PM zhanx: before it was a fight
11:07 PM rue_shop1: with the 2:1 I dont get the lost steps either
11:08 PM zhanx: this is the 10th? print and it only needed a quick bed adjustment on the fly
11:08 PM zhanx: the right rear spring i am going to change i think
11:09 PM rue_shop1: bed adjust = height?
11:09 PM zhanx: yep
11:09 PM rue_shop1: something is moving
11:09 PM zhanx: the right rear keeps raising up, i think that spring is weak etc
11:09 PM rue_shop1: after ~5 prints, the overall height should stay put
11:10 PM rue_shop1: k, not the whole zero then
11:10 PM rue_shop1: I put lock nuts on mine, didn't you?
11:10 PM zhanx: nope just that part, no cause you said don't
11:10 PM zhanx: I asked and you said no don't do that
11:11 PM rue_shop1: wtf?
11:11 PM rue_shop1: on the jack screws?
11:11 PM zhanx: yep
11:11 PM rue_shop1: you want lock nuts on the jack scerws...
11:12 PM rue_shop1: bit of a pain sometimes, but yea
11:12 PM zhanx: you said it would be to hard to adjust and not too
11:12 PM rue_shop1: I said that?
11:12 PM rue_shop1: what was I smokin?
11:12 PM zhanx: reminder that was 5 months ago when it was just starting to print
11:12 PM zhanx: so i figured it was a don't till its better thing
11:12 PM rue_shop1: hex head screws, THAT would be a good idea, trying to get a feaking driver under there is one of the largest pains
11:13 PM zhanx: hence why i have hex heads
11:13 PM rue_shop1: I suppose hex head w/ printed thumbwheels on them and the lock nuts
11:14 PM zhanx: i have the printed thumbwheels, just need locknuts now
11:14 PM rue_shop1: show me thumbwheel!
11:14 PM rue_shop1: thingiverse?
11:14 PM zhanx: fyi you recommend that i print the thumbwheels also
11:14 PM zhanx: yeo
11:14 PM zhanx: yep
11:15 PM rue_shop1: I printer uuber short 1/4" driver bit handles to try to deal with getting in there
11:15 PM rue_shop1: got the thing #?
11:15 PM zhanx: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:764707 <- used those ones
11:16 PM rue_shop1: wow, when the power goes out to the shop it takes a long time for it to heat back up
11:17 PM * rue_shop1 turns on more machines
11:17 PM zhanx: its weird my base for my slew drive printed awesome
11:17 PM zhanx: but this gear had warp
11:17 PM rue_shop1: *blink*
11:17 PM rue_shop1: wtf extruder is that....
11:18 PM rue_shop1: oh its not a swing-away tho
11:18 PM rue_shop1: I require mine be swing-away
11:19 PM rue_shop1: thats an interesting machine
11:19 PM zhanx: you on email machine?
11:19 PM rue_shop1: nope
11:19 PM zhanx: k
11:19 PM rue_shop1: I try to keep that rue_mohr
11:19 PM rue_shop1: this is the coding station
11:20 PM rue_shop1: other is the general workstation
11:20 PM rue_shop1: bed is bed
11:20 PM zhanx: gonna upload the base i made
11:22 PM zhanx: no supports 40% infill for the weight https://imgur.com/a/eRFnZBz
11:22 PM zhanx: yes my extrusion is a bit low
11:24 PM rue_mohr2: and this is new laptop
11:24 PM rue_mohr2: no video issues yet
11:24 PM zhanx: nice
11:24 PM rue_mohr2: 8 cpus
11:24 PM rue_mohr2: 2.8Ghz
11:24 PM rue_mohr2: 6G ram
11:24 PM rue_mohr2: 1T hd
11:24 PM rue_mohr2: hmm
11:25 PM zhanx: so i found out today
11:25 PM rue_mohr2: I installed it all 64bit
11:25 PM rue_mohr2: no issues yet
11:25 PM zhanx: I fixed a scanner / printer etc. the company claimed i didn't
11:25 PM rue_mohr2: uh?
11:25 PM rue_mohr2: is it worth chasing?
11:26 PM zhanx: weird printer said it over heated again
11:26 PM rue_mohr2: does the chart show it going over?
11:26 PM rue_mohr2: you might have a sensor issue
11:26 PM rue_mohr2: if there is a bad connection, the temp goes up
11:26 PM rue_mohr2: marlin freaks out and does a shutdown
11:27 PM rue_mohr2: did the printer stop?
11:28 PM rue_mohr2: hmm this is a nice laptop
11:28 PM rue_mohr2: I wonder if I should make it the new bed machine
11:28 PM rue_mohr2: maybe it can play videos
11:29 PM rue_mohr2: ... because nothing sooths me to sleep more than watching time lapse videos of 3d printers....
11:29 PM rue_mohr2: > >
11:29 PM rue_mohr2: < <
11:30 PM rue_mohr2: the monotizing of youtube is getting stupid
11:30 PM rue_mohr2: there are less ads on tv
11:31 PM zhanx: 3 more failed prints and i can just glue it together
11:31 PM zhanx: oh on the worth chasing yes, they need to pay me
11:32 PM rue_mohr2: zhanx, check the wiring for the temp probe
11:32 PM rue_mohr2: carefully
11:32 PM zhanx: just did
11:32 PM rue_mohr2: you prolly have a bad connection, hiding
11:32 PM zhanx: i might in the loom
11:32 PM rue_mohr2: does the graph show anything?
11:33 PM rue_mohr2: how about a broken hair wire off the ntc?
11:33 PM rue_mohr2: if its bad, do you have a spare sensor?
11:33 PM rue_mohr2: I have a connector to mine on the head
11:33 PM rue_mohr2: easy head changes
11:34 PM rue_mohr2: ""
11:34 PM zhanx: i turned the graph off hold on
11:34 PM zhanx: and it failed to refresh
11:37 PM zhanx: ok gonna reslice it
11:40 PM zhanx: ok 15mm/s speed as a test
11:40 PM rue_mohr2: fullscreen youtube no iddues
11:41 PM rue_mohr2: but someone reversed the S and D keys
11:42 PM zhanx: just pop them off
11:43 PM zhanx: wow that is slow
11:43 PM zhanx: watching the temp graph now
11:44 PM rue_shop1: just use the % to dial the speed down
11:44 PM rue_shop1: on pronterface
11:44 PM rue_shop1: then you can adjust as your printing
11:45 PM zhanx: more worried about the over temp right now
11:45 PM zhanx: it can print slow
11:45 PM rue_shop1: watch the graph, looks for spikes
11:45 PM zhanx: but after 6-7 layers how do i turn up the print speeds
11:46 PM rue_shop1: if there is a tiny spike, it'll do a shutdown
11:46 PM rue_shop1: thats why you use the speed % in pronterface
11:46 PM rue_shop1: you can adjust/set it on the fly
11:46 PM zhanx: i used it in slicer
11:46 PM rue_shop1: sticky
11:47 PM rue_shop1: on the left of pronterface "print speed" : SET
11:47 PM rue_shop1: it changes on the fly
11:47 PM rue_shop1: (+- buffering )
11:47 PM zhanx: k
11:47 PM zhanx: got it
11:48 PM rue_shop1: cant see any Z wobble in the output of this new printer...
11:48 PM rue_shop1: quite implausable
11:48 PM zhanx: i will let it run for an hour at this low speed, and nice
11:49 PM zhanx: running at 36% speed now
11:50 PM rue_shop3: do you ahve a spare temp sensor?
11:50 PM zhanx: yep
11:50 PM rue_shop3: cool
11:50 PM zhanx: 2 in fact
11:50 PM rue_shop3: I got a few spares when one of my heads didn't come with one :/
11:51 PM rue_shop3: rue2seller: "WTF???"
11:51 PM rue_shop3: :)
11:51 PM zhanx: think it was the wire, i pushed the pins on the board more etc, cat was in there
11:51 PM rue_shop3: well, the new machine is dialing in pretty good...
11:51 PM rue_shop3: k
11:52 PM rue_shop3: I'v had a few inncodents of the pins not being locked into the dupont connectors
11:52 PM zhanx: rue would like oliver the cat
11:52 PM rue_shop3: :)
11:52 PM zhanx: he is happy
11:53 PM zhanx: if this works at the super slow speed I will just print big prints over night and call it good
11:53 PM rue_shop3: like I say, after ~layer 5, you can dial it right up and your fine
11:53 PM rue_shop3: I want to see timelapse to understand it more
11:54 PM zhanx: thing is i am not worried about speed, i need it to be right
11:54 PM rue_shop3: I want to know if its a function of the speed the tape lets go
11:54 PM rue_shop3: did you design the part?
11:54 PM zhanx: yes
11:54 PM rue_shop3: put XY cuts thru the bottom layers
11:54 PM rue_shop3: so that their 'floating'
11:55 PM rue_shop3: criss-cross them, so they dont matter structurally
11:55 PM zhanx: i could its justa 100mm diameter gear
11:55 PM rue_shop3: but break the bottom layes up into 'islands' that cant pull
11:55 PM rue_shop3: they only need to be like 1 layer
11:56 PM rue_shop3: to break up the shrinkage
11:56 PM rue_shop3: when you look at your prints, the layers (~3?) against the bed are 'larger' ?
11:56 PM zhanx: that is right now beyond my design skill
11:56 PM rue_shop3: and kinda 'bell in' as it gets to layer ~5?
11:56 PM zhanx: were, i changed that .2 for both
11:57 PM rue_shop3: ok, but you know what I mean, right?
11:57 PM zhanx: yep\
11:57 PM rue_shop3: I think thats the region that generates the pull to warp the print
11:57 PM rue_shop3: after your up that ~5 layers, there is no shinkage issue
11:57 PM zhanx: k
11:58 PM rue_shop3: which kinda preplexes me
11:58 PM rue_shop3: I'd think it would be constant across the entire height
11:58 PM zhanx: this is a 100 gear, 5 layers at this speed is gonna take a while
11:59 PM rue_shop3: I think mine uses a huge-ass ring gear from a pre-beta video player
11:59 PM rue_shop3: iirc it had two arms that wrapped the tape around the head like a vhs
11:59 PM rue_shop3: but its about 8" dia
11:59 PM zhanx: well this is a 100:1 grub screw gear aka slew drive, with microstepping
