04:47 PM zhanx: got the inspection on the work truck, 27k miles in one year
05:56 PM Tom_L: sounds about average
07:52 PM rue_mohr: I put on 300km/week
07:52 PM zhanx: rue_mohr, yep, you called on the glue
07:53 PM rue_mohr: catch it in time?
07:53 PM zhanx: just started a print and the right side was lower by a hair
07:53 PM rue_mohr: the rail slips down, but the motors shoudl keep everything level
07:54 PM rue_mohr: if just the right side is sliping, its the coupler to the threaded rod from the motor
07:54 PM zhanx: next week i need to sit down and make a pm list for the printer of stuff to check
07:55 PM rue_mohr: twist its nuts...
07:55 PM rue_mohr: check connectors for heat after a while running
07:55 PM rue_mohr: and check all the damn things are tight
07:55 PM zhanx: yep and lube
07:55 PM rue_mohr: me and jester had a few work apart
07:56 PM rue_mohr: so I was putting zip ties on 'em
07:57 PM zhanx: if i was feeling adventurous I will and wire tie
07:57 PM rue_mohr: the problem Iw as trying to get at was that the z zero is mounted the the z rail
07:57 PM rue_mohr: and the rail itself tends to slip donw
07:57 PM rue_mohr: its been a problem across the board on my machines
07:58 PM zhanx: i don't think its the rod, i think its the z zero moving
07:58 PM rue_mohr: if both are going down, its the rod the sensors mounted to
07:59 PM zhanx: just the sensor, i had issues with the rods at first and glued with cut tubing
07:59 PM zhanx: they are locked in at the motors
07:59 PM rue_mohr: I'm not talking about the motor ones
08:00 PM rue_mohr: the smooth rods on the z slides
08:00 PM rue_mohr: your z zero is mounted to one, right?
08:00 PM zhanx: yep
08:00 PM rue_mohr: yea, watch THAT rod doesn't slip down
08:01 PM rue_mohr: I'm gonna come up with something new to hold it
08:01 PM rue_mohr: but anyhow
08:01 PM zhanx: to locking them at the top and bottom I used zipties in the mount
08:01 PM rue_mohr: k
08:01 PM rue_mohr: your right, I can use a grubby collar
08:02 PM zhanx: ok so
08:02 PM zhanx: you will not like this i think
08:02 PM rue_mohr: your gonna make a delta?
08:02 PM zhanx: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:34821
08:02 PM zhanx: no delta you talked me out of before
08:03 PM rue_mohr: hah, a dualie
08:03 PM zhanx: his printer is shit for quality for sure
08:03 PM rue_mohr: I dont pay too much attention to that
08:03 PM rue_mohr: lots of them are
08:03 PM rue_mohr: but
08:04 PM zhanx: i printed half of it
08:04 PM rue_mohr: huh
08:04 PM zhanx: next time i am checking the stl before printing
08:04 PM rue_mohr: I dont know how to design prints for multiple colours
08:04 PM zhanx: fucker put the raft are part of it
08:04 PM zhanx: as / are
08:05 PM rue_mohr: its helps sometimes
08:05 PM zhanx: came out nice
08:06 PM zhanx: can't find the pinion gears I printed for the y upgrade, kid lost them
08:07 PM zhanx: So gonna have to print more after this cell holder for the wife
08:43 PM rue_mohr: hahaha how many spools you used up now????\\
08:44 PM zhanx: 2
08:45 PM zhanx: need to dig out the 3d scanner and finish it
08:45 PM zhanx: I got asked today to make parts for cars
08:45 PM zhanx: so they can be cast
08:52 PM rue_mohr: :)
08:53 PM zhanx: i would need 10 pound spools for that
08:53 PM zhanx: and i found a source
08:54 PM zhanx: crunch makes the filament for atomic and sells 45 pound spools
09:00 PM rue_mohr: wonder how much work it would be to generate all my own power
09:05 PM zhanx: he is in seattle just stop down and get a spoo;
09:05 PM zhanx: spool
09:11 PM rue_mohr: I'v gone thru a lot of spools
09:11 PM rue_mohr: I think my waste factor is about 1/10
09:12 PM zhanx: you have been printing longer
09:14 PM rue_mohr: it dosn't count screw ups that I gave away as examples of 3d print
09:14 PM rue_mohr: ing
09:17 PM rue_mohr: zhanx, electrostatic actuators, and I'm not talking piezo
09:18 PM rue_mohr: HASEL heard of it?
09:18 PM zhanx: nope
09:18 PM rue_mohr: wtf plastic is potato chip bag anyhow?
09:18 PM zhanx: no clue they are odd
09:20 PM rue_mohr: ~500V apparently
09:20 PM rue_mohr: but thats not too unworkable
09:23 PM rue_mohr: oof 10kv is harder tho
09:28 PM rue_mohr: https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/mrs-bulletin/news/soft-robots-achieve-muscle-like-performance-self-healing-through-electrohydraulic-coupling
09:28 PM rue_mohr: thats better
09:32 PM rue_mohr: well
09:33 PM rue_mohr: if you use a tube-version of that, and reverse it, to repel(expand) and put it in a woven loom, you have an electrostatic muscle
09:34 PM rue_mohr: otherwise, it looks like you have a great one for pumps and valves
09:34 PM rue_mohr: hmm
09:35 PM rue_mohr: I wonder if my 3d silicone printer can make a "heart valve"
09:35 PM rue_mohr: I suppose it could be post-cut
09:36 PM rue_mohr: print layer, wait 10 mins?
09:36 PM zhanx: that i want to see
09:36 PM zhanx: air muscles ?
09:36 PM rue_mohr: me silicone printing a heart valve?
09:37 PM zhanx: yes
09:37 PM rue_mohr: air muscles but with electrostatic actuated cores
09:37 PM rue_mohr: k
09:37 PM rue_mohr: hmm
09:37 PM rue_mohr: hey rue, lets design it
09:37 PM zhanx: that you can do
09:37 PM zhanx: this i know
09:37 PM rue_mohr: damn thats a kinda organic shape
09:37 PM rue_mohr: oh I got it
09:37 PM rue_mohr: do it!!
09:37 PM zhanx: like my bird bone robot core
09:38 PM rue_mohr: ok, get me tea!
09:38 PM * Tom_L could use some tea
09:38 PM rue_mohr: zhanx, "skelatonized"
09:38 PM zhanx: k proper term
09:39 PM rue_mohr: how big?
09:39 PM rue_mohr: 1cm valve
09:40 PM zhanx: 2 cm
09:40 PM zhanx: so you have to reinforce it
09:40 PM Tom_L: what sort of car parts?
09:40 PM zhanx: Tom_L, intake and heads
09:40 PM Tom_L: ahh nice
09:41 PM rue_mohr: it'll be in an 'eye' for insertion between laminations
09:41 PM zhanx: they know the limits
09:41 PM Tom_L: big prints
09:41 PM Tom_L: is your printer big enough?
09:41 PM Tom_L: they do custom stuff like that at the vo'tech on a big table printer
09:41 PM zhanx: crunch told me he can ship 60 pound spools and I will build one if they want it
09:42 PM zhanx: we had a long talk on it
09:42 PM zhanx: like for one I have never cast a part
09:43 PM zhanx: 2 my scanner is sub par but can be better
09:43 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/temp/prints/plastic_prints.jpg
09:43 PM Tom_L: there's a manifold of some kind lower left
09:43 PM zhanx: 3 it doesn't not do internals
09:43 PM Tom_L: they printed
09:43 PM zhanx: yes stuff like that for pre 60's
09:44 PM Tom_L: nice
09:44 PM Tom_L: they printed the timing belt
09:44 PM zhanx: i guess the son in law is a 3d designer for them
09:44 PM Tom_L: dunno what kind of plastic but it's very flexible
09:45 PM zhanx: my preschooler took those gears to class yesterday. they called me today
09:45 PM Tom_L: :)
09:46 PM Tom_L: just noticed upper left is another type of gear
09:46 PM zhanx: i have 20 gears printed right now
09:46 PM Tom_L: those elipse ones?
09:46 PM zhanx: clock
09:47 PM zhanx: no those are done and handed out
09:47 PM zhanx: 18 kids in the class and 2 teachers all got one
09:56 PM rue_mohr: but eth vause and the octopus are downloads
09:57 PM rue_mohr: almost finish heart valve
09:58 PM zhanx: rue i am going to make a second printer with dual extruders
10:03 PM rue_mohr: I'm gonna make a limited volume silicone/chocolate/wax printer!
10:03 PM rue_mohr: and print this heart valve....
10:19 PM rue_mohr: OMG zhanx your a genious
10:20 PM zhanx: well da but i am a moron also
10:21 PM rue_mohr: a 2 head printer with wax/silicone can make channels in the silicone that can be melted out
10:22 PM zhanx: ok i will test the head
10:22 PM rue_mohr: NOW HOW DO I DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT INVOLVING CHOCOLATE!!!
10:22 PM zhanx: I have the last piece printing now
10:23 PM zhanx: nitro gen
10:23 PM rue_mohr: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3283156
10:23 PM zhanx: bookmarked
10:24 PM rue_mohr: donwload the stl and take a look at it
10:24 PM zhanx: i need to modify these parts a bit
10:24 PM rue_mohr: or, if you are the one person on the internet who can use the 3d viewer
10:24 PM zhanx: thankfully they are openscad
10:25 PM zhanx: 3d viewer works for me fyi
10:30 PM zhanx: https://imgur.com/a/Umdj0wv
11:41 PM rue__: mummmble
11:41 PM rue__: so, after getting back with gas for the genny
11:41 PM furrywolf: power out?
11:42 PM rue__: an overflowing conduit was cutting out the driveway
11:42 PM furrywolf: ?
11:42 PM rue__: THIS time it was two municipal conduits, a 24" and a 36"
11:42 PM rue__: I BENT THE PIPE i TOOK WITH ME, ... twice...
11:42 PM rue__: anyhow, unplugged it
11:42 PM rue__ is now known as rue_mohr
11:43 PM * furrywolf is not understanding
11:43 PM rue_mohr: saved my driveway (and almost everyone on the street, yay)
11:43 PM rue_mohr: the culvert for a major waterway was blocked up with sticks
11:43 PM rue_mohr: went to warn one of the neighbours that they had a major crosscut at the end of their driveway,
11:44 PM furrywolf: ah. that makes much more sense. when you said conduit, I was thinking electric, with you just talking about power...
11:44 PM rue_mohr: "are you Rue! the inverter guy down the street?? we hear your generator all the time!!!"
11:44 PM rue_mohr: *smirk* "yea, sorry about that...."
11:44 PM rue_mohr: anyhow, I'm wet and cold (this was expected)
11:45 PM rue_mohr: where is a life-partner to rub and warm me?
11:45 PM rue_mohr: oh thats right, I'm alone...
11:45 PM * furrywolf is too, and deals
11:45 PM rue_mohr: the emergency lights work good
11:46 PM rue_mohr: I could see
11:46 PM rue_mohr: ok, its bedtime (the timer just went off)
11:46 PM rue_mohr: now I get to make supper...
11:46 PM furrywolf: that's not what bedtime means.
11:47 PM rue_mohr: I'v had a batter powered warning light sitting in the closet for like 6 years, I left it at the street where the washout started...
11:47 PM rue_mohr: well I earned points today, so :P
11:48 PM furrywolf: I take it you have a storm there?
11:50 PM furrywolf: zolan: sometimes I enjoy vibrating components on my chasis...
11:50 PM furrywolf: grr, wrong window
11:50 PM furrywolf: (making a joke about how someone worded something)
11:53 PM rue_mohr: not really
11:53 PM rue_mohr: :D
11:53 PM rue_mohr: notreally a storm
11:53 PM furrywolf: your power is out and your driveway is being washed away, but there's no storm?
11:53 PM rue_mohr: yea, we havn't even hit storm season yet
11:53 PM rue_mohr: the power came back tho
11:54 PM rue_mohr: beofre I even got the truck started to go get gas for the genny
11:54 PM rue_mohr: which is good, cause I'm NOT interested in pulling that damn thing for an hour
11:54 PM rue_mohr: and I'v not run it in a few months, so I'd give me FULL attitude
11:54 PM furrywolf: heh, if you want fun, try starting my diesel genny.
11:54 PM rue_mohr: I should convert it to propane
11:54 PM rue_mohr: poor compression?
11:55 PM furrywolf: pull-start and diesel are two technologies that should not exist simultaneously.
11:55 PM rue_mohr: hahahah indeed
11:55 PM rue_mohr: got electric glow plugs?
11:55 PM furrywolf: no, the opposite... really, really good compression. because it's a diesel.
11:55 PM furrywolf: nope
11:55 PM rue_mohr: ouch
11:55 PM furrywolf: if it had electric glow plugs, it would probably have electric start too. :P
11:55 PM rue_mohr: it would NEVER start on the first pull
11:55 PM rue_mohr: either wouldn't even be an option, it'd be a requirement
11:56 PM furrywolf: I've been starting it with WD40.
11:56 PM furrywolf: it burns easier than diesel.
11:56 PM rue_mohr: either would kick off a bit easier...
11:57 PM rue_mohr: I dunno how many times I had to either that damn farm tractor to get it to start
11:57 PM rue_mohr: stupid backhoe
11:57 PM furrywolf: http://fw.bushytails.net/Yanmar%20Starting%20Instructions.png http://fw.bushytails.net/Yanmar%20Starting%20Instructions%202.png the very japanese instructions. note how it compares starting it to dragging an angry bull, or launching a rocket to space.
11:57 PM rue_mohr: hahaha
11:57 PM furrywolf: ether and pullstart is how you lose fingers, because it'll kick before TDC, ripping the handle out of your hands.
11:58 PM rue_mohr: oh its got a compression release tho
11:58 PM furrywolf: yeah, which just means it doesn't start if you put it on. :P
11:58 PM rue_mohr: it doesn't automaticaclly flip it off when its spun up?
11:59 PM furrywolf: I think my favorite is the sleeping engine in the exact middle of the first page.
11:59 PM furrywolf: it does... making it stay down is actually the hard part.
11:59 PM furrywolf: but no matter how you do it, it's a fucking bitch to start.
