08:21 PM zhanx: long story short someone opened the wall plate and cut the wiring to the server behind the wall

08:21 PM zhanx: thankfully they cut it right behind the biscuit jack and their was enough wire to repunch it down

08:23 PM furrywolf: only reason someone would sneakily kill the cctv is if they wanted something to leave the building unobserved. heh.
08:24 PM zhanx: if you want to cut a wire, cut a wire that allows you to steal, sadly the person failed to realize the cctv system runs off coax to the server and the server has hd space to record it

08:29 PM furrywolf: I worked briefly for a security system store... my favorite job there was when we hid a genuine pinhole camera behind a certificate that hung on the wall in an office, complete with transmitter and battery pack hidden in the frame, with the view through a period poked out with a pin.
08:29 PM furrywolf: one of the employees was very sneakily stealing, and they wanted proof, not just stopping it like putting up more cameras would have done.

10:04 PM furrywolf: best bet would chucking them up in the lathe, getting them really, really well centered (4-jaw and .00005 indicator), and boring a shrink-fit to a ground shaft in both of them.
