07:44 PM rue_mohr: zhanx, today I was introduced to a special type of vlan, a non-virtual one!
07:48 PM rue_mohr: "oh your trucing it!" "no" "but" "well each cable brings in a vlan" "....."
07:48 PM rue_mohr: /truncing/
07:54 PM rue_mohr: and dude, its called bonding
07:54 PM rue_mohr: oops
07:54 PM rue_mohr: hah
07:54 PM rue_mohr: I was trying to understand why she had 2 feeds to the switch
07:55 PM rue_mohr: anyhow, the printer ended up on a piece of cat3, I specifically instructed her to lock the port down to 10mbits
09:15 PM zhanx: rue_mohr, !!!!
09:16 PM zhanx: the local college closed its robotics lab for remodel
09:16 PM zhanx: my brother in law is a janitor and got me tons of stuff
09:21 PM zhanx: its like XMAS
09:25 PM zhanx: I have 4 more truck loads to pick up
09:32 PM zhanx: 7 laptop, 2 work as of right now
09:32 PM zhanx: 1 6 foot parts bin stocked
09:33 PM zhanx: 2 cisco routers / switches
09:33 PM zhanx: some bluetooth modules
09:33 PM zhanx: bunch of cables
09:33 PM zhanx: 2 cases of lego connects
09:34 PM zhanx: 2 printrbot main boards
09:35 PM zhanx: and a modern robotics full kit with sensors for the first load
09:46 PM rue_bed: oh...
09:46 PM rue_bed: omg
09:46 PM rue_bed: robots tho?
09:46 PM zhanx: find out tomorrow
09:47 PM zhanx: they want it all gone
09:47 PM rue_bed: !!
09:47 PM rue_bed: wow
09:47 PM rue_bed: I mean, bla lego, but
09:47 PM rue_bed: they did more than just lego, right?
09:48 PM zhanx: modern robotics kit new in boxes?!?
09:48 PM zhanx: yes
09:49 PM zhanx: 3d scanner
09:49 PM zhanx: I was just texted and said I can have that also, its hand held
09:50 PM zhanx: rue_bed, the parts bin! its fully stocked almost
09:50 PM rue_bed: send lots of pics eh?
09:50 PM zhanx: yes sire
09:51 PM zhanx: I am hoping i can get the arm
09:51 PM zhanx: its industrial
09:51 PM rue_bed: :))
09:52 PM zhanx: the first laptop i tested was new new, broken screen, its only 7 months old, small right hand corner of the screen is out
09:53 PM zhanx: this one has labview on it
09:53 PM zhanx: one was a windows vista acer
09:58 PM rue_bed: so, I'm pretty freaked out about the $10/item shipping on ali
09:58 PM zhanx: that sucks
09:59 PM rue_bed: I really wanted to build more 3d printers this next year, and I dont know if I have all the parts
09:59 PM rue_bed: I think I do
09:59 PM rue_bed: but I'm not sure
09:59 PM rue_bed: not many things are worth the shipping
09:59 PM zhanx: https://imgur.com/a/0RNZ46c one box opened
10:00 PM rue_bed: yay Imges
10:00 PM zhanx: furrywolf, check the log
10:00 PM zhanx: clog
10:01 PM rue_bed: lego but not?
10:01 PM zhanx: lego is kinetics
10:01 PM zhanx: but this is atmel 328p powered
10:02 PM zhanx: I opened the main boards to check it
10:02 PM zhanx: its rj 11 jacks and IC2 and SPI with servo boards etc, motor drivers
10:03 PM zhanx: all the sensors i left in the box
10:03 PM zhanx: its just PIR, IR, Line kits and encoders
10:04 PM furrywolf: why is firefox such shit?
10:04 PM rue_bed: cause c++ and bloatware
10:04 PM rue_bed: bloatware is acutally a thing
10:05 PM zhanx: rue_bed, weird the power distro block is usb??? with spring connectors?
10:05 PM rue_bed: people import whole programming lauguages just to process math equations
10:05 PM furrywolf: zhanx: so, you're sending me a robotic arm and a 3d scanner?
10:05 PM zhanx: 7 usb and 6 sets of spring connectors
10:06 PM furrywolf: spring connectors?
10:06 PM furrywolf: you mean the anderson powerpoles?
10:06 PM zhanx: the motor controllers will do 1 stepper or two normal
10:06 PM zhanx: furrywolf, same thing
10:07 PM furrywolf: those are 15/30/45 (they're interchangable) amp anderson powerpole connectors
10:07 PM zhanx: k
10:07 PM zhanx: score for free
10:07 PM rue_bed: never knew the name of those
10:07 PM furrywolf: (same housing, different thickness terminals)
10:07 PM zhanx: rue me neither but thanks furrywolf
10:08 PM furrywolf: they're really useful.
10:08 PM rue_bed: furrywolf, so, how you gonna upright that cnc?
10:08 PM furrywolf: also, hermaphroditic.
10:08 PM rue_bed: sexy
10:08 PM rue_bed: :D
10:08 PM furrywolf: yeah, dragons/lizards/etc are always herms. don't as me why. :P
10:09 PM rue_bed: furrywolf, so, how you gonna upright that cnc?
10:09 PM rue_bed: /|
10:10 PM rue_bed: intead of |-|
10:10 PM rue_bed: see how much less space it takes up?
10:10 PM furrywolf: best places I've found for those anderson connectors are mouser and powerwerx. the 45A ones need an open-barrel crimp tool, while the 15 and 30 you can crimp with a sta-kon or similar. or, just buy powerwerx's chinese crimp tool, which does all three and is perfectly usable.
10:10 PM rue_bed: 8 bits right there
10:10 PM furrywolf: you mean turn the cnc router on its side? that seems like a bad idea.
10:10 PM furrywolf: especially since I plan on using it for plasma
10:10 PM rue_bed: to 40-60 degres
10:11 PM rue_bed: its a good thing
10:11 PM furrywolf: cos(40) != useful.
10:11 PM zhanx: rue more pics?
10:11 PM rue_bed: if the table is on a slope, there is better dust control
10:11 PM rue_bed: you have to have tabs on your peices anyhow, so that dosn't matter
10:11 PM furrywolf: plasma is usually done by gravity.
10:11 PM rue_bed: and you dont have to lift sheets up on it
10:12 PM rue_bed: you just lean them in , they have to be screwd down anyhow
10:12 PM furrywolf: and you want the crap to blow down, not off to the side.
10:12 PM rue_bed: yer not trustin me
10:12 PM rue_bed: its a router, not a milling machine
10:12 PM furrywolf: again... the workpieces for plasma are usually held in by gravity.
10:13 PM furrywolf: and you WANT THIS. you don't want the cutouts sliding when they're cut free.
10:13 PM furrywolf: what you're saying would make it non-functional.
10:13 PM rue_bed: you do NOT cut pieces free
10:13 PM rue_bed: ALWAYS leave tabs
10:13 PM furrywolf: ... have you never used a cnc plasma cutter? of course you fucking do.
10:14 PM rue_bed: besides, you gonna use it for plasma or router?
10:14 PM furrywolf: both
10:14 PM furrywolf: it came with heads for both...
10:14 PM rue_bed: so, I have to make one and show ya
10:15 PM rue_bed: isn't the bed on it plywood?
10:15 PM furrywolf: no
10:15 PM furrywolf: it has no bed... it has 5 2x2" box steel crossbeams, to put something else on top of.
10:15 PM rue_bed: how do ya screw down the plywood to cut?
10:15 PM rue_bed: hmm
10:16 PM furrywolf: ... no one I know, EVER, screws something down.
10:16 PM furrywolf: that's bad.
10:16 PM rue_bed: oh dear, thats horrid, your work getting bumped around everywhere
10:16 PM furrywolf: you build a vacuum table, or use clamps.
10:17 PM rue_bed: and then flipping up and getting mauled by the bit when it comes loose cuase you got na tabs
10:17 PM rue_bed: ugh
10:17 PM rue_bed: well, ok
10:17 PM rue_bed: I'm ahead of the curve
10:17 PM rue_bed: tho, I saw the fellow building the marble machine using holding tabs properly
10:17 PM zhanx: wtf is this cable https://imgur.com/a/Kkc7jV0 its about 4" long and usb on the other end
10:17 PM rue_bed: bumps then with a chisel
10:18 PM furrywolf: my experience is with cnc plasma cutting, and you never, ever use tabs, or anything other than the occasional clamp to attach the workpiece.
10:18 PM rue_bed: zhanx, dunno!
10:18 PM zhanx: i have 10 of them so far
10:18 PM furrywolf: what are you going to do with the tabs? go around with a hand saw and cut them afterwards? it's a fucking moronic idea that you're even suggesting this.
10:19 PM rue_bed: dont know how I'm gonna implement tabs in my cam program
10:19 PM zhanx: well some of this might be junk to me
10:19 PM rue_bed: but its comming along!
10:19 PM zhanx: but that is not
10:19 PM rue_bed: zhanx, the thing that needs those might surface
10:19 PM zhanx: its the charger cable for the controller
10:20 PM zhanx: this laptop has labview on it with controller monitors as a pass through
10:20 PM rue_bed: I need a windfall router for a big cnc like furrywolf has
10:21 PM zhanx: rue, if i get that arm furry can keep the cnc
10:21 PM rue_bed: hu?
10:21 PM zhanx: 7' arm for the win
10:21 PM rue_bed: yea
10:21 PM rue_bed: abb?
10:21 PM rue_bed: devilibis?
10:21 PM zhanx: yellow, japanese
10:22 PM rue_bed: hmm
10:22 PM rue_bed: not hitachi then
10:22 PM zhanx: well asian i wasn't that close to it
10:22 PM rue_bed: hitachi would be orange
10:22 PM zhanx: square base not round
10:22 PM rue_bed: hmmm
10:22 PM rue_bed: yellow
10:22 PM rue_bed: I think mitsubishi is white
10:23 PM zhanx: from the 30 feet away I thought it was GM assembly arm
10:23 PM rue_bed: if its an off-brand I wont know
10:23 PM rue_bed: ah
10:23 PM rue_bed: hmm
10:23 PM zhanx: which to me makes sense
10:23 PM rue_bed: so you might need a forklift to move it
10:23 PM zhanx: not it breaks down they said
10:24 PM zhanx: besides I am half a fork lift
10:24 PM * rue_bed gets a ticket on the highway for driving an unliscenced forklift carrying a large robot arm
10:24 PM zhanx: worth it
10:24 PM rue_bed: totally
10:24 PM zhanx: knowing me
10:25 PM rue_bed: the electrical supplier is like 2 blocks from work
10:25 PM furrywolf: GRRRRRR. I fucking hate firefox.
10:25 PM zhanx: I would be like : you honor, the doc said I had to bay it
10:25 PM furrywolf: but everything else is even worse!
10:25 PM rue_bed: I had to buy a lot of lights, I was wondering if I'd have to make a run with the lift
10:26 PM zhanx: rue rest of its laptop and cables, with nothing special for this load
10:26 PM rue_bed: furrywolf, diy
10:26 PM rue_bed: well, keep us updated eh?
10:26 PM zhanx: unless you want pics of the 2 cases of lego kinetics
10:26 PM rue_bed: na
10:27 PM furrywolf: some lego stuff is worth a lot of money
10:27 PM zhanx: i have the battery packs but not the controller for them
10:27 PM zhanx: and a 3 dof arm with lasers on it
10:27 PM zhanx: never mind that fell apart
10:28 PM rue_mohr: heh
10:28 PM furrywolf: lego does that.
10:28 PM rue_mohr: ok
10:28 PM zhanx: rue_bed, once i get that parts bin home, one box flat rate anything you want out of it
10:28 PM rue_mohr: ok, cam program
10:29 PM rue_mohr: so, big direction descision
10:29 PM rue_mohr: do I try to implement the major peices as modified gui objects
10:29 PM furrywolf: no
10:29 PM rue_mohr: I got a lot fo gui junk stacking up in main
10:30 PM furrywolf: the gui should be as separate from the functionality as possible.
10:30 PM zhanx: furrywolf, same to you fyi
10:30 PM rue_mohr: furrywolf, DOM, yes, but
10:30 PM furrywolf: ideally, you should be able to change out the gui without modifying any of the functionality code
10:30 PM furrywolf: zhanx: what kind of industrial robot arm did you get?
10:30 PM rue_mohr: I have about 840 lines, of code, MOST of it is gui setup
10:30 PM rue_mohr: so far there is almost no program code
10:31 PM zhanx: furrywolf, not sure if i can get it yet and brand unknown
10:31 PM zhanx: and no you can't have that
10:31 PM furrywolf: also, how dangerous is it? fling-SMT-components-across-the-room, or fling-assembled-vehicles-across-the-room? :)
10:31 PM rue_mohr: http://paste.debian.net/1053954/
10:32 PM rue_mohr: there is a large industrial welding robot a guy might give me if I asked, but I cant home it
10:32 PM zhanx: furrywolf, more like bowling balls for sure
10:32 PM furrywolf: so, mid-grade dangerous.
10:33 PM furrywolf: not bad for a home toy.
10:33 PM rue_mohr: its hunched down as far as it cant be and squeezed into a 40' tractor-trailer
10:33 PM zhanx: dont arm wrestle it
10:33 PM rue_mohr: I think they had to cut a few inches out of the bottom of the trailer to fit it
10:34 PM rue_mohr: I think he got it with an 800A mig end
10:34 PM rue_mohr: it takes 1/4" wire
10:34 PM rue_mohr: 8-|
10:34 PM furrywolf: might be overkill.
10:35 PM furrywolf: I turned down a 600A continuous welder a few months ago... only $500... but I just didn't have anything to do with it... or a way to power it...
10:35 PM rue_mohr: yea
10:35 PM rue_mohr: my welder is 200A
10:36 PM rue_mohr: I think it was 100 continious
10:36 PM rue_mohr: I picked it based ont eh continious rating
10:36 PM rue_mohr: why is the timing of my spacebar so far out
10:36 PM rue_mohr: the the the the the the
10:36 PM rue_mohr: no, dont get it
10:37 PM furrywolf: the keyboard on this laptop is starting to get really shitty... and I've worn a hole in the touchpad.
10:37 PM rue_mohr: too many flash games at night?
10:37 PM furrywolf: I don't have flash, or like games.
10:38 PM furrywolf: so... no.
10:38 PM rue_mohr: oh, your no sport
10:38 PM rue_mohr: but good on ya for dispising games
10:38 PM rue_mohr: http://paste.debian.net/1053954/
10:38 PM rue_mohr: most of the actaul functionlality of my cam program is in my libraries
10:39 PM rue_mohr: 2d lib, 3d lib, arbitrary shape library, dxf reader library
10:39 PM rue_mohr: must headers to glue things togethor
10:40 PM rue_mohr: I'm gonna wonder why I made a rgb24 header...
10:40 PM rue_mohr: oh dxfpallette uses it in the array
10:41 PM rue_mohr: furrywolf, you got autodesk::autocad ?
10:41 PM rue_mohr: zhanx, ?
10:41 PM furrywolf: no
10:41 PM rue_mohr: zhanx, watch for usb key dongles
10:41 PM zhanx: k
10:42 PM furrywolf: I have no working CAD software.
10:42 PM rue_mohr: oh, get librecad
10:42 PM zhanx: no autodesk here also
10:42 PM rue_mohr: furrywolf, its got a few quirks, but they are workable
10:42 PM zhanx: openscad
10:43 PM furrywolf: I seem to recall it being 2d only, and buggy.
10:43 PM rue_mohr: v1 is good, v2 has some circle intersection issues
10:43 PM furrywolf: openscad is not general-purpose enough. it's also ungodly buggy.
10:43 PM rue_mohr: openscad is junk
10:43 PM zhanx: well i like it
10:43 PM rue_mohr: furrywolf, explain why a plasma cutter needs a 3d cad program
10:43 PM rue_mohr: :)
10:44 PM rue_mohr: I made all my 3d objects from librecad and openscad
10:44 PM furrywolf: it doesn't. however, I also own a cnc mill and a cnc lathe/mill combo.
10:44 PM rue_mohr: ever dont 2.5D stuff?
10:45 PM rue_mohr: heh
10:45 PM rue_mohr: ever done 2.5d stuff?
10:45 PM furrywolf: no
10:45 PM furrywolf: I have never found a working cad program.
10:45 PM furrywolf: ever.
10:45 PM rue_mohr: (I'm correcting for me, not you)
10:45 PM rue_mohr: furrywolf, have about 5 more hours of free time?
10:45 PM furrywolf: so far, all my cnc has been manually written g-code, or simple things like engraving.
10:45 PM furrywolf: no
10:45 PM rue_mohr: well damnit
10:46 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2M4cVScbhEQ
10:46 PM Tom_L: why plasma needs 3d cad cam
10:46 PM rue_mohr: please tell me its not cutting holes in plane wings
10:46 PM rue_mohr: WTF
10:46 PM furrywolf: GRRRRRRRR. I so fucking hate firefox.
10:47 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlFp7F6lOQg
10:47 PM Tom_L: probably a better reason
10:47 PM furrywolf: I've seen plasma cutters cutting round holes in pipe and such.
10:47 PM furrywolf: I can't get videos to load right now.
10:47 PM rue_mohr: thats just axis substitution
10:47 PM rue_mohr: thats not 3d
10:47 PM rue_mohr: geez, the machine I made in 1997 can do that
10:47 PM Tom_L: it's 4 axis
10:48 PM rue_mohr: haha, its that a DILDO can they have protecting the head!?
10:48 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, no, no thats 2 axis
10:49 PM rue_mohr: and he's gonna get a uv burn
10:49 PM furrywolf: just because they're only using 2 doesn't mean the machine isn't 4.
10:49 PM rue_mohr: it means you dont need special junk to do that
10:51 PM rue_mohr: no 3d software, no 4 axis controller
10:52 PM rue_mohr: my machine actually uses a relay to swap the y axis for the a axis
10:52 PM furrywolf: what if you want to cut at an angle, rather than normal to the tube surface?
10:52 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5eukbdqGZY
10:52 PM furrywolf: it's probably a 4-axis machine.
10:53 PM Tom_L: deny that is 5 axis
10:53 PM furrywolf: just because he's only using 2 of them for that part, doesn't mean that's all it's capable of.
10:53 PM zhanx: Tom_L, read the log
10:53 PM zhanx: I scored big
10:53 PM Tom_L: i saw the boards
11:00 PM Tom_L: nice score
11:01 PM zhanx: wait till the rest of the stuff is here
11:01 PM zhanx: helps i did work at that college
11:01 PM zhanx: one day i will finish my degree
11:04 PM * rue_mohr gives zhanx the 5th degree
11:05 PM zhanx: 4th not 5th
11:05 PM rue_mohr: back in my day we gave 5
11:05 PM rue_mohr: lazy kids
11:05 PM zhanx: and up hill in the snow both ways
11:05 PM rue_mohr: hell yea
11:06 PM zhanx: Tom_L, same for you, with these parts if i get them flat rate and yours
11:06 PM zhanx: half the stuff i dont know what it is
11:07 PM zhanx: bonus for rue, is next time i am over the border i can send it
11:08 PM rue_mohr: surprise, shipping to canada sucks nomatter where you are
11:08 PM zhanx: in canada?
11:08 PM rue_mohr: yup
11:08 PM zhanx: wow
11:09 PM zhanx: I can drop it off with a 15 minute detour
11:09 PM rue_mohr: about $25 to send a package to my neighbour, and it'll show up a month later
11:10 PM zhanx: and to think the CBC is saying have less kids and you need 1 million more people by 2020
11:10 PM rue_mohr: resources are almost maxed out
11:11 PM zhanx: sadly like i said we send you pine for your mills
11:12 PM rue_mohr: all our pine was destroyed from beatles
11:13 PM zhanx: no all your pine is mostly the wrong type and the ones that were that is true, but you (canada) didn't take the steps to reduce it
11:15 PM zhanx: dont worry in NY we cant process pine due to it causes cancer
11:16 PM furrywolf: bbl, sleep
11:17 PM rue_mohr: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvQilLU-CQk
11:17 PM rue_mohr: wow, soooo overcomplicated
11:17 PM rue_mohr: how the hell are they making any money
11:18 PM rue_mohr: I bet that whole thing spends 75% of its time broken down due to automation issues
11:19 PM rue_mohr: it has university kids written all overit
11:20 PM rue_mohr: to a disgusting level
11:20 PM rue_mohr: most of the people standing around, will actaully be investors
11:21 PM rue_mohr: on the path of that robot arm is horrid
11:21 PM rue_mohr: and wtf they didn't need an arm
