12:09 AM rue_mohr: ...
12:12 AM zhanx: its small
12:12 AM zhanx: gives me back my arduino uno I prototype with
12:12 AM zhanx: it has a screw sheild on it
12:14 AM zhanx: waiting on the lasers to test live not on jpgs
12:18 AM * rue_mohr looks at the pile of them on the corner of his desk...
12:19 AM zhanx: mine will be here faster than you can send them now
12:43 AM rue_mohr: yea
12:33 PM furrywolf: I hate my neighbors so fucking much.
12:36 PM furrywolf: who wants to loan me like $200k?
12:37 PM * furrywolf pokes zhanx
01:02 PM rue_: grr, bad thing to grab keyboard randomly to relocate
01:02 PM rue_: furrywolf, oh thats the "no financing available" thing
01:03 PM rue_: aka you cant get a mortguage and "rent" it from the bank for $1200/mo
01:03 PM rue_: ?
01:04 PM furrywolf: yep
01:04 PM furrywolf: also, I don't make enough to pay the monthly bill.
01:05 PM rue_: whats rent out there?
01:05 PM rue_: you cant get a place to rent here for less than like $1500/mo
01:05 PM furrywolf: rents are high too
01:06 PM rue_: but if your $1500/mo for rent or $1200/mo for a mortguage...
01:07 PM furrywolf: then either way I get thrown out! yay!
01:07 PM rue_: its not on like native reserve or soemthing is it?
01:07 PM furrywolf: no
01:07 PM rue_: well, if you have that place, you dont need storage, right?
01:07 PM rue_: thats a bit extra
01:07 PM rue_ is now known as rue_mohr
01:13 PM rue_mohr: huh, I wrote a 3d brensham alg
01:14 PM rue_mohr: I wonder if that was for the interpolator
01:21 PM furrywolf: I really like the house I looked at yesterday... but the cost...
01:22 PM rue_mohr: I'd buy it if I weren't trying to build a new house really soon
01:23 PM furrywolf: you'd buy it? so YOU can loan me $200k, eh? :P
01:23 PM furrywolf: I'll stop making fun of your 3d printers.. :P
01:25 PM rue_mohr: I got 0.5 acres here for that same price abotu 12 years ago :/
01:25 PM rue_mohr: but the usa is falling apart, so things are cheap
01:25 PM rue_mohr: ""
01:29 PM furrywolf: sigh... hard to buy a house when everyone you know convieniently doesn't know you when you need money.
01:32 PM rue_mohr: are there NO mortguage options for that place then?
01:33 PM rue_mohr: I mean, thats one thing, ahving enough downpayment is compeltely different
01:33 PM Tom_L: those are not friends
01:33 PM Tom_L: i wouldn't borrow money from a friend anyway
01:33 PM Tom_L: they will end up not being your friend
01:34 PM rue_mohr: If I loaned you $40k, I'd need it back in a year, THAT would be evil
01:34 PM Tom_L: California realestate is overpriced
01:34 PM rue_mohr: if I could get a mortguage on it, I'd have to sell it in a year
01:35 PM rue_mohr: that seems pretty cheap tho
01:35 PM * Tom_L packs a bus and heads up to invade rue_mohr
01:35 PM rue_mohr: I think relestate in alabama where cat is was just about as low
01:35 PM furrywolf: the listing described it as in poor condition... it's actually in pretty good condition.
01:36 PM rue_mohr: you mentioned
01:36 PM furrywolf: new linoleum in the kitchen, one new panel in the bathroom, and a bit of touch-up paint, and it's a house...
01:36 PM rue_mohr: maybe they meant in context of a $2M mansion
01:36 PM rue_mohr: I was laughing at the listings that were in my mailbox
01:36 PM furrywolf: biggest issues are a failed well, questionable septic, and '60s wiring.
01:37 PM rue_mohr: wtf you sending listsings like this to people like me for!?
01:37 PM Tom_L: 70's wiring was worse than 60's
01:37 PM rue_mohr: yea, I'm gonna go buy a $1.5M house this weekend, SURE....
01:37 PM Tom_L: wasn't that when they decided aluminum was a good thing?
01:37 PM rue_mohr: yea
01:37 PM rue_mohr: the war ran them out of copper
01:38 PM rue_mohr: funny enough, canada has abandoned copper mines that still have lots of copper, its NOT WORTH MINING IT !?!?!?!
01:38 PM furrywolf: the wiring is ungrounded, and while initially installed adequately, it has been homeownered _really_ badly.
01:38 PM Tom_L: that means new sheetrock too
01:39 PM rue_mohr: but comes with new insulation
01:39 PM furrywolf: it has insulation
01:39 PM furrywolf: installed in 1989 according to the sheet stapled to one of the rafters in he attic
01:39 PM furrywolf: and why would it need new sheetrock?
01:39 PM rue_mohr: after the renos, the bank markup, the purchase cost, the realator fees, and the taxes, you might have it for $500k!
01:39 PM Tom_L: how you gonna rewire it unless you remove some of it?
01:40 PM furrywolf: it's a mix of plaster, plywood, redwood boards, and 1/4" panel, anyway... not a piece of rock in it! lol
01:40 PM furrywolf: by using standard remodeling wiring techniques, like my 8ft long drill bit and inspection camera?
01:40 PM rue_mohr: well , its not slab on grade....
01:41 PM rue_mohr: and its likley built before they did blocking in walls
01:41 PM rue_mohr: or wouldn't even have it cause its 1 story
01:41 PM rue_mohr: and it'd need data wiring ANYHOW
01:41 PM furrywolf: oh, these old farmhouses and victorians have fucking tons of blocking.
01:41 PM rue_mohr: oh
01:41 PM furrywolf: and it's all full-dimension roughcut redwood, usually.
01:42 PM rue_mohr: yea
01:42 PM rue_mohr: that I'd expect
01:42 PM furrywolf: there's a reason I have an 8ft drilbit. :P
01:42 PM rue_mohr: w/45 degree shiplap subcladding on the walls
01:43 PM Tom_L: the bit should have a hole in the flutes at the end so you can just pull the wire back when you extract it
01:43 PM furrywolf: Tom_L: and it does
01:43 PM rue_mohr: or a string
01:43 PM Tom_L: that's awesome
01:43 PM Tom_L: i got strings all over the house :D
01:43 PM rue_mohr: I have a 5' drill extension I made for a new construction job that was done stupid
01:44 PM furrywolf: Tom_L: this is a normal installer's bit feature. :)
01:45 PM furrywolf: https://www.amazon.com/Greenlee-12-04-72A-DVersiBIT-Auger-72-Inch/dp/B001UKG5DK I use one of those plus an extension
01:45 PM rue_mohr: those rae the nice ones, you can flex the shaft a bit for angle
01:45 PM rue_mohr: still easy to blow out the side of a wall tho
01:46 PM furrywolf: hence the inspection camera, so you can drill through the center of studs/joists, not out the side of the wall.
01:47 PM rue_mohr: for( m = nn; !(j & m) && m; m >>= 1, j ^= m ) ; // reverse binary increment j
01:47 PM rue_mohr: ooof
01:47 PM furrywolf: I could use a better inspection camera... I just have the cheapo harbor freight one with one extension.
01:47 PM rue_mohr: ok, I had some breakfast
01:48 PM furrywolf: I'd really like one with a small enough head to fit through the hole I just drilled with the drill shank in the hole too, so I don't need to alternate between parallel holes to get the camera and bit both more than one layer down.
06:09 PM rue_shop5: ok I really need a big cnc
06:09 PM rue_shop5: this is not like I cant cause I ahve no room, its like where am I gonna find room
06:12 PM Tom_L: how big?
06:33 PM rue_mohr: 4x8
06:33 PM rue_mohr: table router, low precision
07:06 PM Tom_L: what you makin now?
