05:00 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fusr9eTceEo
06:54 PM rue_mohr: nice demo
08:35 PM Tom_L: quiet night on irc
08:37 PM * furrywolf just got home
08:57 PM furrywolf: sigh. there's a house I really, really like for sale, but I don't think I can afford it.
09:07 PM furrywolf: http://www.mingtree.com/listing.cfm?ID=134067&MID=1 really, really like it... but it's about twice my budget.
09:08 PM Tom_L: costs alot to live in CA
09:08 PM Tom_L: poor condition?
09:09 PM furrywolf: yes
09:09 PM furrywolf: if it were not in poor condition, it would be about three times that price. heh.
09:09 PM Tom_L: that would go for _alot_ less here
09:09 PM furrywolf: for that price, I'm expecting it would need to be entirely gutted
09:09 PM Tom_L: that would buy a nice home here
09:10 PM Tom_L: even less than that
09:10 PM Tom_L: maybe you should move?
09:10 PM furrywolf: I have family here...
09:11 PM Tom_L: yeah that makes a difference
09:12 PM Tom_L: flat useable land....
09:12 PM Tom_L: hah that's all we got here :)
09:13 PM furrywolf: it's not all that common here...
09:13 PM Tom_L: i guess we take it for granted
09:13 PM furrywolf: it has a four car garage... shop!!!
09:14 PM Tom_L: that would be nice
09:15 PM Tom_L: well water and septic tank
09:15 PM Tom_L: i presume
09:16 PM furrywolf: yeah... although there's a good chance it doesn't have functioning septic.
09:16 PM Tom_L: they steer away from those here now in favor of a pond
09:16 PM furrywolf: pond?
09:17 PM Tom_L: lagoon
09:17 PM furrywolf: for a single-house sewage treatment system?
09:17 PM Tom_L: in the country anyway where city isn't provided
09:17 PM Tom_L: yes
09:17 PM Tom_L: small one
09:18 PM furrywolf: never seen that before.
09:18 PM Tom_L: https://extension2.missouri.edu/wq402
09:18 PM Tom_L: first one i came to
09:19 PM Tom_L: i have a friend on the edge of town that has one
09:19 PM furrywolf: here, in soil where a conventional septic system has issues, wisconsin mounds are standard.
09:19 PM Tom_L: never heard of that
09:21 PM furrywolf: you make a mound of sand about 18" thick, then gravel on top of that, and finally a layer of topsoil, then pump the tank effulent into a distribution system in the gravel. it gets treated by bacteria as it slowly seeps through the sand, and is spread over a wide area (the size of the mound) to aid seeping further into the soil.
09:22 PM Tom_L: yeah i looked it up
09:23 PM furrywolf: I don't think they'd ever allow that lagoon system here... a large part of the point of the mound system is it gets the treatment above ground level, as many areas here have the water table pretty much at ground level.
09:23 PM Tom_L: kindof like a septic system, still has laterals
09:24 PM Tom_L: we have alot of flat open land is probably why they do it here
09:24 PM furrywolf: "Site selection
09:24 PM furrywolf: Lagoons may be used where there are no significant limitations related to groundwater and the soils are known to be impermeable."
09:24 PM furrywolf: yeah, that's not how it is here... here the limitation is groundwater level, and soils are usually permeable.
09:25 PM furrywolf: and flat open land is a very expensive rarity.
09:25 PM Tom_L: we _are_ the breadbasket of the world...
09:33 PM furrywolf: mounds are becoming a lot more common here in the last decade, and many areas seem to be requiring them for new construction.
09:34 PM Tom_L: similar to a septic system but with an extra tank, pump and raised lateral field
09:34 PM furrywolf: grrrrrrrr. I wish ebay would stop fucking with search results. Now they're only showing a fraction of listings _without telling you_.
09:35 PM furrywolf: miller "xmt" finds 22 results. miller "xmt" -fslfasd finds 94 results. at least the "features" still get disabled if you kick it into advanced search mode.
09:41 PM furrywolf: I'll take a look at that house, and probably make a lowball offer.
09:41 PM furrywolf: worst they can do is laugh.
