12:07 AM zhanx: rue_mohr, sup
12:14 AM rue_mohr: playing with using the adc conversion complete interrupt as a timer
12:21 AM rue_mohr: I can make a tiny13 do serial controlled hobby servo control, but only with 150 points resolution
12:25 AM zhanx: base is 12" diameter ish those are 1" candles https://imgur.com/a/9pxgk3q
12:25 AM zhanx: so far with top pots its heating my shop area
12:26 AM zhanx: the soot is from trying different things besides wax
12:27 AM zhanx: its 31F outside and 63 in here so its working
12:44 AM rue_mohr: ok, I'm gonna try it
12:44 AM rue_mohr: I'm gonna use the adc conversion complete interrupt to try to time serial data
01:41 AM rue_mohr: didn't work
02:01 AM rue_mohr: need to time it
02:21 AM zhanx: ugh
02:21 AM zhanx: by row 24-50 it loses the line
02:21 AM zhanx: the code is the same!!
02:22 AM rue_bed: https://www.oreilly.com/openbook/motif/vol6a/Vol6a_html/ch10.html
02:22 AM rue_bed: neural network....
02:22 AM rue_bed: dunno how
06:57 PM Tom_L: who unplugged the interweb?
07:47 PM rue_mohr: not me!
10:11 PM Tom_L: sure dead tonight
10:12 PM furrywolf: that happens sometimes
10:16 PM furrywolf: I've been giving serious thought to a chain-with-rolling-sprocket rack-and-pinion drive for the router...
10:16 PM furrywolf: the 9ft leadscrew just sucs.
10:16 PM furrywolf: sucks
10:16 PM Tom_L: might work ok
10:16 PM Tom_L: yeah that will never work as it is
10:16 PM furrywolf: oh, it works fine... at 0.5ips max.
10:16 PM furrywolf: and with Y less than 6".
10:17 PM Tom_L: ok if you wanna sculpt 2 x 4s
10:17 PM rue_mohr: furrywolf,
10:17 PM rue_mohr: bigger problem
10:17 PM rue_mohr: where ya gonna put it
10:18 PM furrywolf: for now, in my storage unit...
10:18 PM Tom_L: what's a good lumen output for a decent AA flashlight?
10:18 PM furrywolf: and bury it under all the stuff that is currently where it will go
10:18 PM furrywolf: 500
10:18 PM furrywolf: depends on how many AAs.
10:18 PM Tom_L: 2
10:18 PM furrywolf: a better question... why aren't you using 18650s? :P
10:19 PM Tom_L: don't know about them. i don't research this stuff
10:19 PM Tom_L: liion
10:19 PM furrywolf: I use 18650s for all my lights, have for a while now.
10:20 PM furrywolf: get genuine panasonic ones for $8-$10/each, do not get chinese ones, no matter how cheap they are or whose ass they pull the capacity numbers from.
10:21 PM Tom_L: https://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Flashlight-rechargeable-batteries-EdisonBright/dp/B016P39BSM?SubscriptionId=AKIAINO5H4ZSZDIWDYEA&tag=kopcro10a-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B016P39BSM
10:21 PM Tom_L: seems like alot for a light
10:22 PM furrywolf: yes, some brands are expensive.
10:22 PM rue_mohr: what I did was to work out that even at theprices they are sold for, for the Ah rating they are, they aren't worth it
10:22 PM furrywolf: I'd suggest a single 18650 light over a two AA light.
10:22 PM Tom_L: http://www.besttacticalflashlights.net/best-aa-flashlight/
10:22 PM Tom_L: i just opened that and took a peek
10:23 PM Tom_L: i've got a headlamp that uses 1 AA and i like it for working on stuff
10:23 PM furrywolf: note that 18650s lights that can also take 3xAAAs always suck - do not get one with that feature.
10:23 PM Tom_L: right
10:23 PM furrywolf: my headlamp is 18650 too. lol
10:27 PM Tom_L: what kind do you have?
10:28 PM Tom_L: https://www.fenix-store.com/fenix-hl23-led-headlamp-cadet-grey/
10:28 PM Tom_L: i've had one of those for quite a while
10:28 PM furrywolf: don't remember. I don't like headlamps. lol
10:29 PM furrywolf: not even sure where it is
10:29 PM Tom_L: i use it when i need both hands free
10:29 PM furrywolf: it's a good one, not a budget chinese one.
10:29 PM furrywolf: I'd rather use an area light.
10:29 PM Tom_L: not always an option for me
10:30 PM furrywolf: what I want next is a multiquip globug 1000 led...
10:31 PM furrywolf: http://www.globuglights.com/ they use an inflatable diffuser so there's no blinding point light sources
10:31 PM rue_mohr: but what about surefire
10:31 PM rue_mohr: :)
10:31 PM furrywolf: they're also ungodly expensive.
10:32 PM Tom_L: yeah they are
10:33 PM furrywolf: http://www.multiquip.com/multiquip/globug.htm
10:33 PM furrywolf: http://www.multiquip.com/multiquip/GBC8LED.htm $5100!
10:34 PM Tom_L: https://www.surefire.com/illumination/headlamps/maximus.html
10:34 PM Tom_L: $279
10:34 PM furrywolf: I've only owned one surefire, and it was no better than the chinese knockoffs of it.
10:34 PM Tom_L: .... no thanks
10:34 PM rue_mohr: what? surefire was the cheapest from china
10:35 PM furrywolf: no, surefire is the name-brand that all the other *fires are knockoffs of
10:35 PM furrywolf: ultrafire being the most common
10:36 PM rue_mohr: oh
10:41 PM Tom_L: ok i donated my bit to the interweb deadness... gonna go sleep now
10:41 PM furrywolf: what ratio (in terms of inches per motor revolution) should I aim for with a dual rack drive?
10:41 PM Tom_L: my ballscrews are 5mm pitch
10:42 PM Tom_L: and that works out pretty good
10:42 PM furrywolf: ok, now what should MINE be? :P
10:42 PM furrywolf: 0.2in/rev seems a little slow...
10:42 PM Tom_L: your steppers are beefier so you could probably get away with more
10:43 PM furrywolf: I have some 980ozin nema34s I'd probably use.
10:43 PM Tom_L: i can get umm... 170 ipm? iirc
10:43 PM furrywolf: yeah, that would take 36 seconds to travel my table... :P
10:43 PM Tom_L: i actually forget what my rapids are but it's close to that i believe
10:44 PM Tom_L: you want speed or resolution?
10:44 PM furrywolf: one page I found said to aim for 1"/rev, but that seems to be a bit lacking in resolution and torque.
10:44 PM furrywolf: I want both. and pink unicorns, too.
10:44 PM Tom_L: i have yet to stall mine
10:44 PM Tom_L: i've tried too
10:45 PM Tom_L: accidentally of course
10:45 PM furrywolf: I'm thinking of using a pair of 980ozin steppers, one on either side of the gantry... can get some decent torque out of them, at low speeds.
10:45 PM Tom_L: you reach a point the larger steppers will run slower than smaller ones
10:46 PM Tom_L: some magnetic flux capacitor thing i think
10:47 PM Tom_L: i never calculated the force on mine, i just hunted for the largest nema 23 i could find
10:48 PM Tom_L: and it ended up at 570 in oz
10:48 PM furrywolf: my current plan is a single-stage belt reduction... can't get very high ratios.
10:48 PM furrywolf: especially since I already have the small pulleys, and they're not super small.
10:49 PM furrywolf: I can probably get to 3:1 reduction... if I then drive a 2" diameter pinion, that's 2"/rev, which is way too high.
10:50 PM Tom_L: https://www.ebay.com/itm/3pcs-NEMA23-570OZ-IN-5A-3-8-DUAL-SHAFT-STEPPER-MOTOR/253223632606?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649
10:50 PM Tom_L: is what i got
10:51 PM Tom_L: i did put a 3:1 on my z but i don't think i needed to
10:51 PM Tom_L: i could probably press bearings out with it :)
10:52 PM furrywolf: my nema34s on my lathe/mill combo can press out the bearings, as I found out by accident...
10:52 PM Tom_L: heh
10:53 PM Tom_L: ^^ those come in 1/4 or 3/8" shaft and i went with the larger shaft
10:55 PM furrywolf: the ones I have spare have a metric shaft with a metric timing belt pulley already installed
10:57 PM furrywolf: I'd need to dig them out to check exactly what belt pitch and tooth count.
10:57 PM furrywolf: I'm worried a single-stage reduction won't be enough.
10:58 PM furrywolf: as I said, a 3:1 reduction with a 2" diameter pinion is 2"/rev....
10:59 PM Tom_L: quite a bit
10:59 PM Tom_L: ok, i'm headin out
10:59 PM furrywolf: cyas
11:00 PM furrywolf: I guess two-stage belt is the next option, but that starts making tensioning and stuff something that's an actual design issue, not just slotted holes.
11:02 PM furrywolf: hrmm, there's 100T pulleys on ebay... might be able to get 5:1... with a smaller sprocket that would give me about 1"/rev... still high, but might be workable.
11:03 PM furrywolf: that's only .005 resolution, still, and acceleration might be a bit iffy.
11:10 PM rue_mohr: :)
11:10 PM rue_mohr: I'm going to makea big machine and I dont care of the resolution is only 1mmm
11:17 PM rue_mohr: so, I'm trying to work out how to take up the lash in that xy vise I got
11:18 PM furrywolf: that's easy.
11:19 PM furrywolf: return it and buy something that isn't crap.
11:19 PM rue_mohr: dude
11:19 PM rue_mohr: everything is crap
11:19 PM rue_mohr: the people who dont want crap need to know how to transform whats available
11:19 PM rue_mohr: evreything that is sold is just a starting point
11:20 PM furrywolf: buy a sherline
11:20 PM rue_mohr: their crap
11:20 PM rue_mohr: thats why tom built his
11:20 PM rue_mohr: I have a pile of material
11:21 PM rue_mohr: I'v got stuff for 2 machines now
11:21 PM rue_mohr: I'm having commitment problems
11:21 PM furrywolf: ... I did not find my sherline to be crap.
11:22 PM furrywolf: I found it to be quite well made.
11:27 PM rue_mohr: ok I need to focus
11:30 PM rue_mohr: ok, test this, I'll just generate 4 centred ports
11:33 PM furrywolf: bbl, wolfy bedtime
