#garfield Calendar

12:03 AM rue_mohr: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3150814
12:07 AM rue_mohr: you need 10 of those
12:07 AM rue_mohr: thats a great way to test how carefull your printer can be
12:07 AM rue_mohr: run that at like 30%
12:07 AM furrywolf: if I ever really need to 3d print something, I'll probably just stuff an extruder in my mill.
12:07 AM furrywolf: shouldn't me too hard to make an extruder with a morse taper shank. :P
12:07 AM furrywolf: especially if I make a hollow drawbar I can feed the filament down, with the spool on top of the mill.
12:09 AM furrywolf: actually, I guess cmykw would be needed...
12:10 AM rue_mohr: zhanx, tell me the improvements to the instructions I need to make if you build it
12:12 AM rue_mohr: zhanx, ?
12:14 AM rue_mohr: ok, 3 things posted in one night, that should put my thingiverse hits thru the roof for the next few days
12:30 AM furrywolf: bbl, wolfy bedtime
08:06 PM furrywolf: I did a bad thing. I spent money on a new toy...
08:07 PM * furrywolf bought a 4x8 CNC router table
08:08 PM furrywolf: doesn't work, of course. something went wrong with whatever they were using to drive the steppers, and it got removed. has three gecko drives, and a pc, and a bunch of cut wires where something should connect the two together. heh.
08:09 PM furrywolf: but... 4x8, on a nice solid steel table.
08:11 PM furrywolf: looks a mix of homemade and commercial assemblies
08:12 PM furrywolf: the far end of the gantry isn't driven, and is floppier than I'd like. it needs either a second leadscrew or, what I'll probably do, a big looped cable to force it to move in sync with the driven side.
08:14 PM Tom_L: what gecko drives?
08:15 PM Tom_L: sounds workable for sure
08:15 PM furrywolf: don't remember the model. they're about 3" square and 1/2" thick.
08:15 PM Tom_L: most are
08:16 PM Tom_L: i'm using the 203v which are pretty tough
08:16 PM furrywolf: the current vs resistor scale went up to 7A
08:16 PM Tom_L: yeah i think mine go to 7 but i'd have to check
08:17 PM Tom_L: also have a higher input V rating than alot of the chinese ones
08:17 PM furrywolf: I used 10A 80V centent drives for my lathe/mill combo
08:17 PM furrywolf: overkill, but overkill is better than undersized. :)
08:18 PM Tom_L: yup
08:18 PM furrywolf: centent and gecko are very related... same person designed both if I remember right.
08:18 PM furrywolf: spent $200 for it, or $300 if he can find all the missing bits.
08:19 PM furrywolf: (gave him $200 now, he's going to try to get the missing bits from his friend, and I'll give him the rest of it)
08:20 PM furrywolf: http://www.centent.com/CN0165.html the ones I used.
08:21 PM furrywolf: "Full Step Morphing is entirely unique to Geckodrive products and can transition your motor to a true full step motor between 4 – 6 revolutions per second." "The CN0165 ... A unique "fill" circuit smoothly transitions the drive from microstepping at low speeds to full step operation at high speeds" lol @ duplicate uniqueness. :P
08:21 PM Tom_L: https://www.geckodrive.com/g203v-digital-step-drive.html
08:22 PM Tom_L: got better protection than most
08:22 PM Tom_L: i felt that was a good idea on my first build
08:22 PM furrywolf: yeah, the centents are supposed to be bulletproof too.
08:23 PM Tom_L: what's missing?
08:23 PM furrywolf: whatever connected the windows PC to the gecko drives.
08:24 PM Tom_L: i'd get a mesa card and use linuxcnc
08:24 PM furrywolf: the guy I'm buying it from doesn't know exactly what it was, just that his friend, who has it, kept saying "linux".
08:24 PM Tom_L: yeah he was likely using linuxcnc
08:24 PM furrywolf: the guy I'm buying it from is entirely non-technical. zero technical skills or knowledge whatsoever.
08:24 PM furrywolf: he said the pc has mach3 on it.
08:24 PM Tom_L: mach3 pretty much sucks
08:25 PM Tom_L: you can do alot more with lcnc
08:25 PM furrywolf: yes
08:25 PM Tom_L: you have to do a little setup but you do on anything
08:25 PM furrywolf: but he really wanted the $300, so I made him work if he wants it. heh.
08:25 PM Tom_L: good idea
08:26 PM furrywolf: I have linuxcnc for my other machine, and I'd rather they use the same software.
08:27 PM Tom_L: so it's not new to you then
08:27 PM furrywolf: no
08:28 PM Tom_L: that's a plus
08:28 PM furrywolf: I have a mesa 7i76e for my other machine
08:28 PM furrywolf: haven't set it up yet, though... still using the bit-banging parallel breakout.
08:29 PM Tom_L: since my MB had a parallel port i went with a parallel port card
08:29 PM Tom_L: i've got an ethernet one i use to test with
08:29 PM Tom_L: the 7i90 is probably the cheapest with the most IO for the buck
08:29 PM furrywolf: I want more microstepping than the parallel port can do without seriously hurting speed.
08:29 PM Tom_L: yep
08:30 PM furrywolf: also, I want to eventually use a newer toughbook than the one I'm currently using, and the newer ones a) have shit latency, and b) don't have parallel ports.
08:30 PM Tom_L: guy over there is using a laptop with good success using ethernet cards
08:31 PM Tom_L: you need preempt-rt for that instead of RTAI though
08:31 PM Tom_L: it's not hard to set up
08:31 PM furrywolf: you don't need any RT for the ethernet cards
08:32 PM Tom_L: you need preempt-rt
08:32 PM Tom_L: pretty sure
08:32 PM Tom_L: you could ask pcw for sure
08:33 PM furrywolf: hrmm, that's not what I remember from when I looked them up when I got it...
08:34 PM Tom_L: oh the 76 _is_ ethernet..
08:34 PM furrywolf: the "e" version is ethernet. there's also non-ethernet ones.
08:34 PM furrywolf: googling says to just use whatever kernel the iso ships with
08:35 PM zhanx: ok printing again
08:36 PM zhanx: furrywolf, want a laugh>?
08:36 PM furrywolf: another forum thread says you use the "uspace" version with any kernel
08:36 PM zhanx: according to my GTT contact for the t-mobile job they had to get a laptop to run windows to do the work
08:37 PM furrywolf: and another thread agrees with you that you have to switch to the preempt kernel
08:37 PM furrywolf: I hate forums.
08:37 PM furrywolf: zhanx: did you see what I figured out last night? the firmware upgrade only works from IE.
08:38 PM zhanx: yes i saw that and they only support windows on the server side also
08:38 PM zhanx: how scary is that
08:47 PM Tom_L: furrywolf you should look at his newest card that has the daughter card on the main card and is ethernet
08:47 PM Tom_L: i forget the number
08:49 PM Tom_L: 7i96 maybe?
08:49 PM zhanx: ok printer is working good again
08:49 PM Tom_L: great
08:50 PM zhanx: finally and thanks
08:50 PM Tom_L: furrywolf, http://store.mesanet.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=83_85&product_id=311
08:51 PM zhanx: ok lets rue see that y gear reduction you posted
08:52 PM furrywolf: is it just a 7i76e with two rows of connectors chopped off? :)
08:52 PM Tom_L: enough to run a small mill
08:54 PM zhanx: rue_mohr, you never posted it,
08:54 PM zhanx: I will print the other 2 tho
08:54 PM furrywolf: I mean, is that the only difference between the two?
08:54 PM furrywolf: brb
08:55 PM Tom_L: probably
08:55 PM Tom_L: i'm not familiar with the 7i76
09:00 PM furrywolf: http://store.mesanet.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=290
09:00 PM zhanx: ok need to print a red poop emoji then if rue even wakes up the gear reduction on the y
09:01 PM Tom_L: oh he didn't give you files?
09:02 PM zhanx: nope
09:14 PM zhanx: damn it new filament broke off in the extruder
09:26 PM furrywolf: why is it so hard to get hot salsa? bleh
09:59 PM rue_bed: self.online = true
10:00 PM rue_bed: the geared, right, ok, you want for Y
10:00 PM rue_bed: I have x and y
10:00 PM rue_bed: ok
10:00 PM zhanx: new filament clogged nozzle = true
10:00 PM zhanx: ok
10:01 PM rue_bed: waiting for my gyro to sync up
10:01 PM zhanx: but it does print fine
10:01 PM rue_bed: zhanx, what 'brand' ?
10:01 PM zhanx: had to calibrate for the different brand also
10:01 PM rue_bed: from amazon 'amazed
10:01 PM rue_bed: ' has been good
10:01 PM zhanx: one sec i got it from amazon also
10:01 PM rue_bed: the extrusion multiplier can varry
10:02 PM zhanx: TAINSE
10:02 PM rue_bed: dunno
10:02 PM zhanx: 210 temp and .85 extrusion works on it
10:03 PM furrywolf: how much filament do I need to make a 4x8' print? :P
10:03 PM zhanx: i was at 190 and .83 before
10:03 PM rue_bed: furrywolf, its the shrinkage curling that will kill ya
10:04 PM zhanx: rue_bed, link me them x and y's, i need to go to a cell tower tomorrow
10:04 PM rue_bed: I still need to post them
10:04 PM zhanx: and its the weekend so i can drink
10:04 PM rue_bed: and that will be trickey
10:04 PM rue_bed: there are multiple main.scad s
10:05 PM rue_bed: so I'll have to make a dir tree
10:05 PM rue_bed: and prezip it
10:05 PM zhanx: or you can post on your server and i can pull them down
10:05 PM rue_bed: I'd like to use the opportunity to post on thingi
10:05 PM zhanx: k
10:06 PM zhanx: think i am gonna order the extruded for my delta printer
10:06 PM zhanx: 3'x3'x7'
10:07 PM rue_bed: hahaahahahaha like 500 hits
10:07 PM rue_bed: yesterdays thingiverse hits make everyting else silent background noise
10:07 PM rue_bed: hahahaha
10:08 PM zhanx: yea you got a lot of hits and prints
10:08 PM rue_bed: na, just views, likes, and collections
10:09 PM zhanx: only 1 was mine
10:09 PM rue_bed: wholy sh**
10:09 PM rue_bed: the linear bearing got more hits than the 80mm fan grate!!!!
10:10 PM rue_bed: that stupid fan grate has been unbeatable
10:10 PM rue_bed: 217 views on the linear bearing
10:11 PM zhanx: oh the pain in my thumb was a piece of wire
10:11 PM rue_bed: ugh
10:11 PM rue_bed: pain indicates things to you zhanx
10:11 PM zhanx: alarm system was cake today
10:11 PM rue_bed: good good
10:11 PM zhanx: large large hourse
10:11 PM zhanx: house
10:12 PM zhanx: framing only was done
10:12 PM rue_bed: ok, I need to initialize
10:12 PM rue_bed: tea
10:12 PM rue_bed: whats the state of the tea
10:12 PM zhanx: 600 meters of cat5 ran on it
10:12 PM rue_bed: why is my wifi tea machine not done yet
10:12 PM rue_bed: zhanx, hopefully not in one run
10:12 PM rue_bed: :)
10:12 PM zhanx: it should been done last month and no
10:12 PM zhanx: every door and window
10:13 PM rue_bed: I hate buildings that are not designed to work with max run distance
10:13 PM zhanx: plus way too many camera's for a "beach house"
10:13 PM rue_bed: and its not station z?
10:13 PM rue_bed: for the securrity?
10:13 PM rue_bed: lots of systems are going with wireless sensors
10:14 PM zhanx: yep, they listened to me, its now under the stairs
10:14 PM zhanx: owner wanted wired
10:14 PM rue_bed: k
10:14 PM rue_bed: good, unusual
10:14 PM zhanx: they were pouring a vault also
10:15 PM zhanx: some rich guy being scared is all
10:15 PM rue_bed: people who do bad things are paranoid
10:15 PM zhanx: true and I would rather be alarm guy than printer guy or tv guy
10:16 PM rue_bed: I got to show you why I like thingiverse....
10:16 PM zhanx: oh
10:16 PM zhanx: dang it rue_bed wins
10:16 PM zhanx: remember what you said i would break when it came lose?
10:16 PM zhanx: and I said i got this
10:17 PM rue_bed: which would break?
10:17 PM zhanx: my j head broke lose from the thermo block
10:18 PM zhanx: and you said i would break the tube inside and i said no I am good
10:18 PM rue_bed: but yu made a metal plate didn't you?
10:18 PM zhanx: I was wrong
10:18 PM zhanx: i did its broke
10:18 PM rue_bed: oh, you had to redo it?
10:18 PM rue_bed: oh no
10:18 PM rue_bed: ooh no!
10:18 PM rue_bed: (
10:18 PM rue_bed: :(
10:18 PM rue_bed: do you have a spare?????
10:18 PM zhanx: can i run it without it?
10:18 PM zhanx: no i don't
10:18 PM rue_bed: no
10:18 PM rue_bed: it needs the thermal isolation
10:19 PM zhanx: ok i need to order another one
10:19 PM rue_bed: you cant put any stress on that thing
10:19 PM zhanx: i tried not too
10:19 PM zhanx: but like you said its not hard to mess it up
10:20 PM zhanx: i got a bonus today, a nice one so i can order a few if i want
10:20 PM furrywolf: lucky you.
10:20 PM furrywolf: we've been being told all week that next week there won't be as many employees in the warehouse, and we'll find out if we're one of them wednesday.
10:21 PM zhanx: lucky me, 1 man crew, working my ass off, calling 16-20 hours a day it seems, biding jobs, etc
10:21 PM zhanx: I am an owner operator
10:22 PM Tom_L: and lovin every minute of it...
10:22 PM zhanx: Tom_L, yes because I am not in the place furrywolf is
10:23 PM furrywolf: I am too, but we're treated like employees. actually, employees have rights. we're treated like cockroaches.
10:23 PM zhanx: I made 6 grand this week, I cant bitch
10:23 PM Tom_L: pay the bills and you might keep half that
10:23 PM zhanx: no i made that
10:23 PM * furrywolf made about $400
10:24 PM Tom_L: fed, state, fica, medicare, etc etc
10:24 PM zhanx: bills are current
10:24 PM Tom_L: do you collect sales tax?
10:24 PM zhanx: have to
10:24 PM Tom_L: then there's that too
10:24 PM zhanx: thats paid also
10:25 PM zhanx: remember 2 weeks ago i was broke, in 2 weeks it will be the same
10:25 PM Tom_L: so put half in a special account
10:25 PM Tom_L: for a rainy day
10:25 PM zhanx: all of it is in the account
10:26 PM zhanx: I would rather not worry if i can buy cable
10:26 PM Tom_L: you're off to a good start
10:26 PM zhanx: semi shitty
10:27 PM zhanx: but that USPS contract is worth 60
10:27 PM zhanx: so now i can get better credit
10:31 PM furrywolf: if we have fewer drivers next week, it'll mean the remaining ones are doing more work... and I'm willing to bet it will not come with a corresponding pay increase. or, for that matter, any increase at all.
10:31 PM Tom_L: so do the same work you did this week for the same pay
10:33 PM furrywolf: which, assuming I still have a job, is an excellent way to make sure I don't.
10:34 PM Tom_L: so then i guess you just take it with a smile
10:34 PM rue_mohr: furrywolf, is the economy where you r at dead? souring unemployment rates?
10:35 PM zhanx: furrywolf, needs to start its own business making shirts
10:36 PM furrywolf: no, it's about average...
10:36 PM furrywolf: shirts are a stupidly oversaturated market here.
10:36 PM zhanx: ok then
10:36 PM furrywolf: at least two screenprinting places have gone out of business this year.
10:37 PM zhanx: IT shit?
10:37 PM furrywolf: and a distant semi-relative tried it for a while, didn't succeed...
10:37 PM zhanx: k
10:37 PM rue_mohr: furrywolf, all that aside WHERE THE @#%$$@&!@#$%!#$% IS MY PACKAGE!
10:37 PM rue_mohr: ;)
10:37 PM furrywolf: there's no technology-related business here.
10:37 PM zhanx: furrywolf, zipcode?
10:38 PM furrywolf: the only IT you can do is helping old ladies figure out how to use facebook... and it's well-covered.
10:38 PM furrywolf: 95501 is the big city here
10:38 PM furrywolf: also, note I have minimal IT skills. heh.
10:38 PM zhanx: there are 900 open IT jobs there, but yea there is that
10:39 PM zhanx: furrywolf, I live in a national forest
10:39 PM furrywolf: ... I doubt there are 900 open jobs, PERIOD.
10:39 PM furrywolf: given as that would be, like, 5% of the total population.
10:39 PM zhanx: population about 20 thousand in 14 million square miles
10:40 PM zhanx: open jobs not full time jobs
10:40 PM furrywolf: are you sure your site isn't filling your results with worthless spam? because I've found most job sites do that.
10:40 PM furrywolf: and they're not local, or online, or simply entirely fake.
10:40 PM zhanx: no these are work requests only
10:41 PM zhanx: its everything from mom and pop gas station to high end
10:41 PM zhanx: most in your area are pin pad installs
10:42 PM furrywolf: that... doesn't seem like jobs.
10:42 PM zhanx: 200 a pop is fine for an hour of work
10:43 PM furrywolf: that's not a job, though. that's one individual thing you might do at a job.
10:43 PM zhanx: which i do 20-30 a week on top of other jobs
10:44 PM zhanx: furrywolf, not gonna lie, i am a disabled vet, i get paid more than most to sit on my ass
10:44 PM zhanx: but i work cause i want to
10:44 PM zhanx: rue_mohr, hates i just buy the stuff
10:44 PM furrywolf: I'm a semi-disabled non-vet, I don't get paid a dime.
10:45 PM zhanx: i have 5 years in combat and US army SF Ranger Airborne Air assualt
10:45 PM rue_mohr: there are two onions, a red and a white one
10:46 PM zhanx: red its sweeter when you caramelize it
10:46 PM rue_mohr: yea, cause I'm a cook and i know all about that
10:47 PM rue_mohr: chop up and put in slow-cooker, right?
10:47 PM zhanx: have butter or olive oil?
10:47 PM rue_mohr: yes
10:47 PM rue_mohr: and coconut oil for scuicide
10:48 PM rue_mohr: https://ifoodreal.com/vegetable-soup-recipe/
10:48 PM zhanx: olive oil and high heat stir fast till they change color
10:48 PM rue_mohr: I'll give this a try
10:48 PM zhanx: lacking
10:48 PM rue_mohr: nothats ok
10:49 PM zhanx: for you
10:49 PM rue_mohr: but I'll start that like you said instead of them
10:49 PM furrywolf: the only actual IT job I've seen here is for a windows+AD expert, which I most certainly am not.
10:49 PM zhanx: do i need to make a video tour of cooking for rue's AI?
10:50 PM * furrywolf has very limited cooking skills too
10:50 PM zhanx: really?
10:50 PM furrywolf: I don't like cooking.
10:50 PM furrywolf: at all.
10:50 PM zhanx: how else would i stay 270
10:50 PM zhanx: I love to cook
10:51 PM furrywolf: it's such an utter waste of time... anything else I put time and effort into, I have something to show for it. cooking, it's all gone.
10:51 PM zhanx: you are cooking wrong
10:51 PM zhanx: rue will tell you I am a large fellow
10:51 PM zhanx: I eat super healthy
10:51 PM zhanx: minus my beer
10:52 PM zhanx: my foot breaks laptops still according to rue
10:55 PM * furrywolf usually just buys microwavable food-like items
10:56 PM * zhanx has his 1 acre garden and only buys meat and minor stuff
10:56 PM zhanx: heck i grew hops this year
10:58 PM furrywolf: you're enough of a drug addict that you grow your own drug supplies?
10:59 PM zhanx: liberal love weed, talk about something else and you are an addict
11:00 PM * furrywolf doesn't love weed
11:00 PM zhanx: love how liberal became the party of prudes again
11:00 PM furrywolf: weed is harmful to users and to society and should be treated as such
11:01 PM zhanx: if you said that on reddit they would label you a nazi
11:01 PM furrywolf: no, saying jews are harmful to society makes you a nazi.
11:02 PM zhanx: lol reddit thinks jews ar nazi also
11:02 PM rue_mohr: damnit
11:02 PM zhanx: you must have missed that bott'd post
11:02 PM rue_mohr: onoins, dice
11:02 PM rue_mohr: tears...
11:02 PM rue_mohr: where are my goggles
11:02 PM zhanx: wash hands next time and salt it
11:02 PM zhanx: them not it
11:03 PM zhanx: or be 6'5 like me
11:05 PM zhanx: dont worry furrywolf i fought for you right to say and think what ever you want for 15 years till i was injured and shit
11:05 PM zhanx: i am not an american democrat that will beat you up for wrong think
11:06 PM furrywolf: part of the problem with jobs here is that the local area is rapidly turning into an entirely government or drug funded service economy... money comes in from out of the area, and locally is only used for providing services to others. we have no manufacturing left... probably 90% of the sawmills have closed... fishing has gone from bountiful to mostly outlawed due to overfishing, with boats coming back empty...
11:07 PM zhanx: furrywolf, that is a hard test of a place right there
11:07 PM furrywolf: the only thing we still export is marijuana, and I give it five more years at best.
11:07 PM rue_mohr: wow thats better
11:08 PM zhanx: darn it
11:08 PM zhanx: failed to compile 34 times now
11:08 PM furrywolf: now that it's legal, it's only a matter of time until major players put all the local farms out of business. our terrain here is not suited to large-scale farming, so those major players won't be anyone here.
11:09 PM zhanx: i need to send you my garden system and you can sell it
11:09 PM zhanx: its a monitor system and buggy as all hell still
11:09 PM furrywolf: I'm not sure what a garden system or monitor system is.
11:11 PM zhanx: something to help farmers
11:12 PM furrywolf: closing the sawmills pretty much killed all other manufacturing-related businesses... since most of the mills closed, we've lost one of our two metal sales places, our industrial supply places, our hydraulics shops, some of the heavy equipment shops (and those that are left aren't paying shit... one was advertising for a heavy equipment mechanic, must have own tools, for $13.50/hour), etc... and all the businesses that supported those businesses...
11:13 PM zhanx: old NAFTA
11:13 PM zhanx: trump changed that
11:14 PM furrywolf: a heavy equipment mechanic that must have his or her own tools is guaranteed $21/hour by california law - these ads are actually illegal - but people need money and take them anyway.
11:15 PM zhanx: cali is gonna turn purple this year
11:16 PM furrywolf: (california law is that any tradesperson that must have their own tools has to be paid double the current minimum wage)
11:16 PM zhanx: same with NY law
11:16 PM zhanx: its why I get a min of 30 an hour
11:17 PM furrywolf: but, if it's working for a criminally (literally) low wage, or having your kids starve....
11:19 PM zhanx: cali is the case and point for stopping immigrants
11:20 PM zhanx: when you bring in 4 million a year you can fuck over the rest
11:21 PM furrywolf: that ad annoyed me... it specifically specified an experienced heavy equipment mechanic, able to rebuild hydraulics... not an oil change tech or anything like that...
11:22 PM zhanx: hydraulics is spec
11:22 PM zhanx: its not a normal thing
11:23 PM furrywolf: eh, it's part of the normal duties of a heavy equipment mechanic.
11:23 PM zhanx: do you know how the ram and the discs on the foot of a cylinder affect the speed?
11:23 PM furrywolf: my point is they weren't hiring for an unskilled position...
11:24 PM zhanx: the wage is your point
11:24 PM furrywolf: but were hiring wages that should only be offered to the least-skilled individuals.
11:24 PM zhanx: and super liberal cali wanted illegals to do it
11:25 PM zhanx: illegals over citizens the motto of Cali and Canada
11:25 PM Tom_L: make sure you give them the right to vote though
11:25 PM furrywolf: I'm not sure what discs you're referring to... the speed is a function of hydraulic pump flow and effective piston area.
11:26 PM furrywolf: minus friction losses in hoses and valves and such
11:26 PM zhanx: furrywolf, on the foot of some cylinders you can use disc's to control the flow to slow them, or speed them up
11:26 PM furrywolf: just a flow restrictor?
11:26 PM zhanx: its like a filter
11:27 PM zhanx: yes
11:27 PM furrywolf: I've not seem them, but then again, I'm not an experienced heavy equipment mechanic. :)
11:28 PM zhanx: i was forced reclassed in the army before my medical, I learned it
11:28 PM Tom_L: http://www.hydraforce.com/Acc-hous/Acc_html/8-460-1_Orifice_Discs/8-460-1_Orifice%20Discs.htm
11:28 PM furrywolf: the last hydraulics repair I did was the brakes on a ford a62 wheel loaded... symptom was brakes lock hard as soon as the engine is started, brake pedal pushes itself full up at same time.
11:28 PM zhanx: tom with the win
11:29 PM furrywolf: problem was a cracked belleville washer in a stack of them in the brake valve, which has gotten jammed in the valve.
11:29 PM furrywolf: solution was to remove the broken bits and put it back together with one washer missing. :)
11:31 PM zhanx: Tom_L, seattle robotics if you can
11:31 PM furrywolf: all the machines I've worked on had the speeds limited only by pump flow
11:31 PM zhanx: pump flow is a one off
11:32 PM zhanx: moving 9 cylinders? flow control
11:33 PM Tom_L: weller wtcpt is what i have
11:33 PM furrywolf: flow controls combined with open-center designs seems like a bad idea.
11:33 PM Tom_L: with 7 & 800 deg tips
11:33 PM Tom_L: 800 for lead free
11:33 PM zhanx: my weller just died, i think after 20 years i should get another one
11:34 PM Tom_L: cooper tools
11:34 PM furrywolf: having all your rams slow down because you decided to move the smallest one at the same time would be just plain annoying. :)
11:34 PM Tom_L: i like mine
11:35 PM zhanx: Tom_L, does it have hot air rework? (never had it)
11:35 PM Tom_L: no need to break the bank on an iron
11:35 PM Tom_L: no
11:35 PM Tom_L: those chinese ones do ok for that i'm told
11:35 PM zhanx: my weller had tips and temp control\
11:35 PM Tom_L: but i don't have a hot air station
11:36 PM Tom_L: i fixed my weller gun couple days ago
11:36 PM zhanx: so i am wondering since it was old as hell if something newer is better
11:36 PM Tom_L: cord finally gave up
11:36 PM Tom_L: newer is not always better sadly
11:36 PM zhanx: my barrel wires broke
11:37 PM furrywolf: I've never managed to kill a weller gun.
11:37 PM zhanx: no replacement parts
11:37 PM furrywolf: I've had old bakelite ones fall to bits, but still heat.
11:37 PM Tom_L: furrywolf the cord finally gave up
11:37 PM Tom_L: mine _is_ bakelite
11:38 PM zhanx: Tom_L, so weller is still the goto brand
11:38 PM zhanx: unles rue pips in with hacko
11:38 PM Tom_L: there are better ones but weller is for the average hobbyist
11:38 PM furrywolf: I actually passed up an old bakelite one at a yard sale today... it was starting to get some good cracks, and it had been fixed with long through-screws with external nuts...
11:38 PM furrywolf: decided it was too badly monkeyed with.
11:39 PM furrywolf: I much prefer the old ones with two lights to the newer ones with one light.

11:46 PM Tom_L: can you get different tips for yours?

11:47 PM Tom_L: not sure what they call it
11:47 PM Tom_L: so what model was it?
11:47 PM Tom_L: just get another one and use the tips
11:47 PM zhanx: 117 army issue
11:48 PM zhanx: rods are the same
11:58 PM rue_mohr: did the stainless break when you were tightening it?
11:59 PM rue_mohr: "zhanx> 117 army issue" somehow I visualize a classroom with someone saying "THIS IS YOUR SOLDERING IRON. YOU WILL LEARN ITS WAYS AND IT WILL KEEP YOU ALIVE."
