07:25 PM zhanx: Evening, last call of the day, an alarm tech couldn't get the alarm to reset and call in clear, I got there all new phone lines
07:28 PM zhanx: but they never hooked the phone lines to the alarm box, they put in the boxes and wires. but just never hooked the phones to the alarm
07:28 PM zhanx: Tom_L, I have one of them POTS in a box 4g LTE systems extra from today, I am temped to play with it
07:47 PM rue_mohr: hmm
07:51 PM zhanx: bingo
07:52 PM zhanx: extruder wire had fatigue on it and broke partly was touching the frame
07:52 PM zhanx: all the wiring is off the printer now
07:53 PM rue_mohr: heater or mtoor?
07:54 PM rue_mohr: you would need two filaures, that only one
07:54 PM zhanx: yep found one
07:54 PM zhanx: motor
07:55 PM rue_mohr: but only one wire was involved?
07:55 PM zhanx: so far
08:02 PM zhanx: ok weird
08:03 PM zhanx: if I touch Q
08:03 PM rue_mohr: q?
08:03 PM zhanx: Q3 with the ramps board only power by 12v and the arduino off it
08:03 PM zhanx: LED2 turns on
08:03 PM rue_mohr: q3?
08:05 PM zhanx: the transistor next to the heat2 or second extruder
08:05 PM zhanx: the one turned away from the other 2
08:07 PM rue_mohr: your not using the normal ramps board tho, are you
08:07 PM zhanx: no i am
08:07 PM rue_mohr: hmm
08:12 PM zhanx: ok ramps board is in need of fixing
08:12 PM rue_mohr: the ramps board is just a carrier, it might be the avr
08:14 PM zhanx: I am about to remove the D1 to prevent the ramps from powering the arduino
08:14 PM rue_mohr: yup
08:17 PM zhanx: mega board shows up in the ardunio ide with no ramps attached
08:19 PM zhanx: ok up and serial commo work with the ramps plugged in
08:19 PM zhanx: now to power on the ramps
08:22 PM zhanx: ok no smoke and the board is talking via serial commo
08:22 PM zhanx: time to test a steep
08:22 PM zhanx: stepper
08:23 PM Tom_L: maybe it was the diode all along
08:25 PM zhanx: one driveris fine
08:28 PM zhanx: all the drivers work, I think Tom_L is right that diode failed
08:30 PM Tom_L: i'm not gonna say for sure but years back when i was messin with my 2560 i may have caught wind of some removing the diode
08:30 PM Tom_L: usually diodes fail open though
08:31 PM zhanx: yea i found that in a search, it seems to have been common to remove it
08:31 PM zhanx: now everything is working fine, minus the fact I have to reassemble the printer now
08:31 PM Tom_L: not something i would have remembered though
08:32 PM zhanx: no it was something I had to learn though. And thankfully that was the issue, I need to test everything 1 more time still
08:38 PM zhanx: ok rue_mohr what are the odds of that other ramps board having an issue with the d1 also?
08:38 PM Tom_L: i'd say pretty good
08:39 PM zhanx: yep
08:39 PM Tom_L: with it out, the arduino is USB powered
08:39 PM Tom_L: would explain the USB issues
08:39 PM zhanx: and it fried the usb circuit on the other one
08:40 PM Tom_itx: D1 just connects the 12V input of the RAMPS to the voltage regulator of the Arduino. The only time that you need to remove it is if you're running voltages higher than 12V on the RAMPS input. The Arduino can't handle higher voltage, it'll over heat and cook the regulator.
08:41 PM Tom_itx: If you remove the diode, you have to power the arduino with either the barrel connector or via USB.
08:41 PM Tom_L: i'd take it out personally
08:42 PM zhanx: yep I am gonna cut it out of this other one also
08:42 PM zhanx: i might have 2 setups just from not knowing that
08:43 PM Tom_L: you wanted a spare anyway
08:43 PM Tom_L: now watch rue come along and say different :D
08:43 PM zhanx: ok look that that.. it was fried
08:43 PM zhanx: i went to cut it and it fell apart
08:43 PM Tom_L: you must have had spikes on the 12v or something to cause that
08:44 PM Tom_L: ground the steppers etc before you get too excited
08:44 PM zhanx: i have to reground the whole thing. I took all the wiring off the printer
08:44 PM Tom_L: star ground it all
08:45 PM zhanx: i will
08:46 PM zhanx: ok, i guess, this cost me a little bit but was worth it
08:47 PM Tom_L: you got a few spare parts now
08:47 PM Tom_L: i've got a whole board set for my mill
08:47 PM Tom_L: albeit ethernet instead of parallel port
08:48 PM Tom_L: but i even think i've got a spare parallel card
08:48 PM zhanx: ok
08:49 PM zhanx: everything works on the old one with D1 cut and all the drivers work minus one
08:49 PM Tom_itx: On the other hand, if you have a 12864 LCD attached to the RAMPS with the backlight powered from the 5V rail, then you are probably overheating the voltage regulator even with 12V input.
08:50 PM Tom_itx: just reading parts of this post
08:50 PM Tom_itx: https://reprap.org/forum/read.php?219,468926
08:50 PM zhanx: no point in the screen now
08:51 PM Tom_L: put a heftier diode back in
08:52 PM zhanx: true
08:52 PM Tom_L: just don't overload the regulator apparently
08:53 PM zhanx: i am surprised its something so simple
08:53 PM Tom_L: i'm not
08:53 PM Tom_L: it usually is
08:53 PM Tom_L: generally an oversight
08:54 PM zhanx: all that posting on that thread and OP comes back with it was the power supply
08:55 PM Tom_L: something caused the diode to fail
08:55 PM Tom_L: if the supply was driving it then it may have spiked or runs just above it's limit
08:56 PM zhanx: I think still it was the dryer or electrical in this house and I got a spike
08:56 PM Tom_L: could be
08:56 PM Tom_L: but now you know all these things...
08:56 PM zhanx: or just cheap ass china junk and that is true
08:57 PM Tom_L: i didn't use a switching supply on my mill
08:58 PM Tom_L: good ole transformers
08:58 PM Tom_L: but they were surplus otherwise i'm not sure what i would have done
09:05 PM zhanx: well the bonus is now I can rewire this one more time and I am going to pick up small loom to protect the wires
09:05 PM rue_mohr: hu?
09:05 PM rue_mohr: the arduino ide cant know there is a ramps baord
09:06 PM zhanx: it was shutting off when it was plugged in
09:06 PM rue_mohr: zhanx, so, did you just gamble that none of those drivers did not have a 12V-5V short?
09:06 PM zhanx: Yep
09:06 PM zhanx: with a bread board
09:07 PM zhanx: rue_mohr, did you seen this? https://gfycat.com/ThoseLoathsomeArawana
09:07 PM zhanx: they cut the size of the feet in half or more now
09:08 PM rue_mohr: wait, give it another 5V regulator, HAVE YOU SEEN THE SZIE OF THE OBNBOARD REGULATOR!?!?!?
09:09 PM rue_mohr: oh wow, I wonder how many runs that rook
09:14 PM rue_mohr: please keep prodding me to work on my cam software
09:14 PM rue_mohr: I keep forgetting about the project
09:16 PM Tom_L: i worked on mine last night
09:16 PM Tom_L: ... just tweaking the post a little
09:17 PM Tom_L: issue with the spindle getting up to speed before it reached the cut sometimes
09:29 PM zhanx: rue these encoders should fit a standard nema 17 shaft right?
09:37 PM rue_mohr: 5mm
09:37 PM rue_mohr: should, yes
09:37 PM zhanx: they are a bit tight, so i will need to ream them then
09:37 PM rue_mohr: tho tom weived liability if they aren't on spec 5.00mm
09:38 PM rue_mohr: he said to ream them
09:38 PM rue_mohr: I recommend a multipoint spline, so there isn't '100%' contact
09:38 PM zhanx: thats cool i can blame Tom_L
09:39 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, your parts are making their way into life-support military equipment, are you ok with that?
09:39 PM rue_mohr: :D
09:39 PM zhanx: no they are going into my arm project
09:39 PM rue_mohr: pretty sure thats what I said
09:40 PM zhanx: fair enough
09:40 PM Tom_L: it's fine, the warranty is void anyway now that they've passed the border twice
09:40 PM rue_mohr: tell me if they work out and you need more
09:40 PM zhanx: ok
09:41 PM Tom_L: yeah rue has a lifetime supply
09:41 PM rue_mohr: everyone knows the fastest way from A to B is via C
09:41 PM zhanx: 5 is fine for this arm for sure, I need to send a thankyou card
09:41 PM * rue_mohr imagines a card from a machine to the tune of 'thanks for the snack'
09:42 PM rue_mohr: I put a letter on the card they were taped to ya know
09:42 PM zhanx: i think that machine but you on a list
09:42 PM zhanx: you did?
09:42 PM rue_mohr: yea, just said hi
09:42 PM Tom_L: yeah i got crap because i didn't
09:42 PM zhanx: nice
09:42 PM Tom_L: funny his didn't make it :D
09:42 PM rue_mohr: a long winded hi, but hi
09:43 PM rue_mohr: maybe it didn't make it because of that
09:43 PM zhanx: well like tom said at least I got the encoders
09:43 PM rue_mohr: yup
09:43 PM Tom_L: they're still trying to decode your cypher
09:43 PM zhanx: only one is iffy
09:43 PM zhanx: it has marks on it
09:43 PM rue_mohr: zhanx, I'm sure your equiv who works on the machines thought it polite to make sure the encoders got to you
09:44 PM zhanx: yea the pittny bowes guys are all like us
09:44 PM Tom_L: the 5mm should be a nice press fit on the shaft
09:45 PM zhanx: I am thinking of not press fitting it
09:45 PM rue_mohr: our typos make reading into work, oh well
09:45 PM rue_mohr: zhanx, do many of your motors have rear shafts?
09:45 PM zhanx: no pittny bowes is the company that has the contract for the mail sorters in the states
09:46 PM zhanx: no most don't rue
09:46 PM rue_mohr: only a few of mine do
09:46 PM zhanx: i use washers to brace them
09:47 PM rue_mohr: I thik I'll ut the neural network stuff away for a bit and think on it
09:47 PM zhanx: i am working on the 3d scanner
09:47 PM rue_mohr: I got the code that uses the butterfly technique to train, but only just barely
09:47 PM rue_mohr: I know
09:48 PM rue_mohr: I designed that scanner in 2002 and the project died when I couldn't get code to detect even an ideal line in an image
09:48 PM rue_mohr: I still have the laser lines and the rotary table
09:49 PM rue_mohr: the table is parallel port controlled... so....
09:49 PM zhanx: well its my winter project, the frame is done, rotary table done. just need the laser
09:49 PM rue_mohr: but last time I tried to look up the software, it was vaporware, everyone had pointers to everyone else and the rest was dead links
09:49 PM zhanx: now that this extra ramps board works, I can use that to turn the stepper
09:49 PM rue_mohr: did they use 45 degrees or 22.5?
09:49 PM zhanx: 22.5
09:50 PM rue_mohr: I wonder what method they use for the camera distortion
09:50 PM rue_mohr: oh supper, brb
09:50 PM zhanx: 2 lasers, HD usb camera. not sure yet
09:53 PM rue_mohr: yea, that parts easy
09:53 PM rue_mohr: detect a wiggly laser line in an image,
09:53 PM rue_mohr: tho, your better at opencv than I am
09:53 PM rue_mohr: you should see my cube reconstruction, what a mess!
09:53 PM zhanx: been using it a long while
09:53 PM rue_mohr: can I shoot you an ideal image?
09:54 PM zhanx: sure
09:54 PM rue_mohr: you need to tell me what the offset is fromt eh centre of the image to the line
09:54 PM zhanx: can yet, i need a better laser, this cheapo one is too wide
09:55 PM zhanx: its 1/4" wide
09:55 PM zhanx: but its close to 20mm offset
09:56 PM rue_mohr: can you pick an image out of an animated gif?
09:56 PM zhanx: yea i can decode the gif to pics
09:57 PM rue_mohr: ok this is 22.5 degrees
09:57 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/3dscanner/
09:57 PM rue_mohr: ahhaha its already posted
09:57 PM rue_mohr: 22_5Degs.Gif
09:58 PM rue_mohr: heh, the images were rendered in 2003
09:58 PM rue_mohr: the library for trying to find the line goes back to 2000
09:59 PM zhanx: yea the guy that picked up the software is an opencv master or something
10:02 PM rue_mohr: so, that gif has the minor background noise in it, I might have had success with 0% noise
10:02 PM rue_mohr: tell me if you are abel to make anything of it
10:02 PM furrywolf: I started building a 3d scanner around 2002 or so. never finished it.
10:02 PM zhanx: maybe that shape is a bit off also
10:03 PM rue_mohr: if you can tell me the offset fromt eh middle of the image to the laser hit, I can reconstruct a point cloud
10:03 PM rue_mohr: my stuff can do that
10:03 PM rue_mohr: furrywolf, WHY!
10:03 PM furrywolf: switch laser off, capture frame, switch laser on, capture frame, subtract.
10:03 PM rue_mohr: mmm noise
10:03 PM rue_mohr: esp in 2002, cmos image ugh
10:04 PM furrywolf: also, use a near-IR laser and a matching filter.
10:04 PM rue_mohr: otherwise I agree
10:04 PM furrywolf: the old hard-to-see red, not the new bright red ones.
10:04 PM rue_mohr: I want to make a bio imager that uses a bright light, and sequences it on and off a few times to take a picture straight thru you in visable light
10:04 PM furrywolf: it's close enough to IR that a narrow pass filter blocks most ambient light, but it's still in the range the sensor will easily pick up.
10:05 PM furrywolf: I got a nice, bright white line on my images
10:05 PM rue_mohr: ....oh yea, we have new leds
10:05 PM rue_mohr: doesn't really matter, if I cant pick out THAT line, I'm hooped
10:05 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/3dscanner/22_5Degs.Gif
10:05 PM furrywolf: I got a pair of crosshair generators pulled from what I believe was some piece of medical equipment... nice and bright, and a big warning that they're illegal to run without the line generator optic. :)
10:05 PM rue_mohr: ^^ povray rendered, 'semi-ideal' image
10:06 PM furrywolf: I don't have working internet access right now.
10:06 PM rue_mohr: ....
10:06 PM furrywolf: I'm tethered to my phone, which is about 500 bytes/second, with a 2GB cap...
10:06 PM rue_mohr: oh
10:06 PM rue_mohr: well thankyou for being with us!
10:07 PM rue_mohr: zhanx, did you check out the reconstruction?
10:07 PM furrywolf: t-mobile, my regular ISP, decided to release a firmware update for my modem. and rather than doing what normal companies would do, and emailing you saying they'd really like if you installed it, they decided to simply ban all devices with the old firmware, THEN tell you that you need to update it if you want to be allowed on the internet again.
10:07 PM furrywolf: And, of course, their update mechanism doesn't work.
10:07 PM furrywolf: so you can't actually update it.
10:07 PM rue_mohr: it got me excited
10:07 PM furrywolf: they're "working on it".
10:08 PM rue_mohr: furrywolf, demand a refund for the number of days their 'working on it' for
10:08 PM rue_mohr: and have them call and set you up with a compeditors connection in the meantime
10:09 PM furrywolf: righto. I see you've never actually dealt with an american wireless carrier.
10:11 PM furrywolf: pclover: the other choice is satellite. which is much, much worse.
10:11 PM furrywolf: grr, wrong window
10:14 PM rue_mohr: I'm not saying switch, I'm saying threaten them
10:17 PM Tom_L: they don't much care anymore
10:17 PM furrywolf: again, I see you've never actually called them. :P
10:17 PM Tom_L: i did that once but now they just could care less
10:17 PM Tom_L: they offered me a better plan but i still switched
10:17 PM furrywolf: they can't care, because the people on the phone only marginally count as people. they're essentially robots. they know nothing, they think nothing. they just read their script.
10:18 PM Tom_L: sent me offers for a month or so
10:18 PM rue_mohr: they are hired off the street for sub-minimum wage
10:18 PM furrywolf: I used the long-distance wifi thing once... no one to aim it at now.
10:18 PM furrywolf: grr, wrong window, again
10:18 PM rue_mohr: its a walk-in job
10:19 PM rue_mohr: so, you need a compeditor
10:19 PM rue_mohr: you should see the mess after a single company bought up all the garbage collection here
10:19 PM Tom_L: that's happened here as well
10:20 PM rue_mohr: they keep screwing up days, and then when people call in, they insist that its always been a day that it hasn't
10:20 PM Tom_L: they didn't tell us, just switched cans
10:20 PM rue_mohr: they own the cans?
10:21 PM Tom_L: of course
10:21 PM Tom_L: and if you canced they charge to come get them
10:21 PM Tom_L: cancel
10:21 PM rue_mohr: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvJfqWaN3YY
10:22 PM Tom_L: so there's 2 major carriers now
10:22 PM rue_mohr: OMG THOSE ARE THE GUYS THAT BOUGHT UP TEH LOCAL PEOPLE!
10:22 PM Tom_L: and a handfull of tiny ones
10:22 PM Tom_L: yep, those are here too
10:22 PM Tom_L: WM and WC
10:23 PM rue_mohr: SO, if I start a garbage company they will buy me up
10:23 PM rue_mohr: COOL
10:23 PM Tom_L: no they'll drag you under and take it
10:24 PM rue_mohr: not if I'm fake
10:24 PM rue_mohr: :)
10:25 PM rue_mohr: and signing up people like crazy
10:26 PM Tom_L: i wound up grinding up the old can and stuffing it in the new one
10:26 PM Tom_L: wasn't gonna pay to have somebody pick it up
10:26 PM Tom_L: oops... sorry somebody must have stolen it
10:36 PM rue_mohr: ok, so I need a gui
10:37 PM rue_mohr: one where I can select entities in a dxf
10:37 PM furrywolf: bbl, I'm not making any progress at all googling what to do about my useless hotspot, and I'm just running out my 2gb cap on my phone now.
10:37 PM rue_mohr: damn, I did a horrible job of cooking these potatoes
10:38 PM rue_mohr: furrywolf,
10:38 PM rue_mohr: canel your account with them
10:38 PM rue_mohr: and open it again
10:38 PM rue_mohr: they will send you new router
10:38 PM furrywolf: no, they won't.
10:38 PM furrywolf: you have to buy it.
10:38 PM furrywolf: like I bought this one.
10:38 PM rue_mohr: go to the second hand store and see if there is one for $5 thats got the new firmware
10:39 PM zhanx: or take a laptop to mcdonalds or somewhere with free wifi download it and update
10:39 PM furrywolf: second-hand stores here sell clothes and dishes.
10:39 PM zhanx: sorry was looking at code
10:40 PM furrywolf: zhanx: I have not been able to find anywhere to download a firmware image, or any procedure for putting it on the devie.
10:40 PM furrywolf: device
10:40 PM zhanx: whats the company?
10:40 PM rue_mohr: too bad you cant hack the device and get it workeing, and get free access
10:40 PM rue_mohr: tmobile
10:40 PM zhanx: tmobile and the router make and model?
10:41 PM zhanx: GTT does the tech support for them I might be able to get it
10:41 PM furrywolf: alcatel linkzone
10:41 PM zhanx: This major USPS project I am working is Tmobile so i will ask the lead tech
10:42 PM furrywolf: again, not only could I not find the firmware for download, I couldn't find any way to put the firmware on the device if I did find it.
10:42 PM rue_mohr: does it have a usb port?
10:42 PM Tom_L: i've been stalling doing a firmware update on my router
10:43 PM furrywolf: it does. exposes itself as an ethernet adapter.
10:43 PM Tom_L: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-32615
10:44 PM furrywolf: Tom_L: hopefully your ISP is not like mine, and will simply decide to ban all non-updated devices without warning.
10:44 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, maybe the bottom line would help him more
10:44 PM Tom_L: i had to get a new modem a while back
10:44 PM furrywolf: I have followed t-mobile's procedure. I've confirmed it is using an old version. but, when I tell it to check for updates, it says "no updates available".
10:45 PM furrywolf: after several hours on the phone with t-mobile, one of their robots admitted they'd been getting a lot of calls about this exact issue, but they couldn't do anything about it.
10:46 PM furrywolf: none of the robots I talked to would give me any path towards ever having working internet again.
10:46 PM furrywolf: one suggested I buy a new hotspot from them, with my cash, to fix their problem.
10:47 PM rue_mohr: you would prolly need to set up a http server and tweek its dns records
10:48 PM furrywolf: I can't control its routing.
10:48 PM furrywolf: it only accesses the world through its cell connection.
10:48 PM furrywolf: I'd also need to set up a fake tower.
10:48 PM rue_mohr: the admin page does not let you at its dns server config?
10:49 PM furrywolf: t-mobile blocks all dns and answers it itself, no matter what server you try connecting to.
10:49 PM furrywolf: quite annoying when you're trying to troubleshoot dns servers...
10:50 PM furrywolf: I have firefox do all its lookups over the same proxy I use for browsing.
10:50 PM furrywolf: (note that firefox does NOT proxy dns lookups by default... which is utterly fucking stupid! if you're using a proxy to prevent information leakage, it still happily leaks every domain you look up.)
10:51 PM furrywolf: t-mobile does helpful things like spam you with bullshit every time you try a http connection to what should be a nxdomain...
10:51 PM rue_mohr: :( I cant see what the admin page ooks like, I see there is a 'network gettings' and 'router settings' cant see whats in them
10:52 PM furrywolf: it's a huge massive javascript bloat.
10:52 PM rue_mohr: I could only say to sit at mcdonalds and hack the device
10:53 PM rue_mohr: it'll go to a server and try to get a file I suppose
10:53 PM furrywolf: hacking the device would require substantial investments in time, skill, and motivation that I do not have.
10:53 PM furrywolf: I'm not sure there's any way to intercept it without a fake tower.
10:53 PM rue_mohr: wait on zhanx
10:53 PM rue_mohr: he might come up with soemthing good
10:53 PM zhanx: maybe i can ask is all
10:53 PM furrywolf: again, you can't do anything with dns... t-mobile blocks __all__ dns lookups.
10:54 PM furrywolf: even if you explicitly query a different server, t-mobile transparently proxies it and answers it itself.
10:54 PM zhanx: but then again I work on the backside of the internet most of the time
10:54 PM rue_mohr: can I do tk from C?
10:54 PM zhanx: tk?
10:55 PM furrywolf: as in... tcl?
10:55 PM rue_mohr: tkinter is a python thing,
10:55 PM rue_mohr: yea
10:55 PM rue_mohr: tcl
10:55 PM * rue_mohr finds tutorial
10:56 PM furrywolf: bbl
10:56 PM rue_mohr: eeek, this is all backwards
10:59 PM rue_mohr: ugh

10:59 PM zhanx: new leads for my multimeter are sharp
11:03 PM zhanx: So this coming week rue, I am mister tv repair man

11:06 PM zhanx: er shoot me
11:11 PM zhanx: rue_mohr, shoot me a better y axis to print?
11:11 PM rue_mohr: shoot you, ok any preference to where?
11:11 PM zhanx: email or here
11:11 PM rue_mohr: I'm not a good aim...
11:11 PM zhanx: this might be true
11:11 PM rue_mohr: I mean, in halflife I need to use high yield, wide spread weapons...
11:11 PM rue_mohr: y axis
11:11 PM rue_mohr: ok, focusing
11:11 PM zhanx: i might have used a single shot bolt action full float barrel
11:11 PM rue_mohr: ... no idea
11:11 PM rue_mohr: ok, Y axis, you will need some bearings
11:11 PM rue_mohr: and some small rod
11:11 PM rue_mohr: its a trickey print
11:11 PM zhanx: accurate to about a mile.
11:11 PM zhanx: k
11:11 PM rue_mohr: why did the service duck out for amin there?
11:11 PM zhanx: I have 3 bearings right here, and lots of rod
11:11 PM rue_mohr: special bearings
11:11 PM rue_mohr: 1 min
11:11 PM zhanx: what size, i have a pack of miss ordered ones
11:12 PM rue_mohr: oh, Y, ok...
11:12 PM rue_mohr: my upgrade consists of a special bearing assembly, and a block
11:13 PM rue_mohr: trying to focus again
11:13 PM zhanx: for 40 seconds
11:13 PM zhanx: When I get home tomorrow I want to rewire the printer and upgrade it again
11:14 PM rue_mohr: focusing again
11:16 PM rue_mohr: I'm trying to find the bit that doesn't need the bearings
11:16 PM zhanx: reminder you wanted me to gear reduction the x and y
11:16 PM zhanx: send the one with bearings... I might be able to do something with it
11:17 PM rue_mohr: odd
11:17 PM rue_mohr: stand by
11:17 PM zhanx: standing by
11:17 PM rue_mohr: I want to post them to thingi, but cant find one
11:21 PM rue_mohr: aha
11:22 PM rue_mohr: helps when I collect all the folders of parts for all the 3d printers to one place
11:23 PM rue_mohr: aha!
11:23 PM rue_mohr: ok
11:23 PM zhanx: sounds promising
11:31 PM zhanx: never mind that was crickets
11:31 PM rue_mohr: its on its way
11:31 PM rue_mohr: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3150790
11:34 PM rue_mohr: they are processing it
11:34 PM rue_mohr: the other half is going to take me a few more mins.
11:34 PM rue_mohr: it should be the same height as the normal bearing block
11:34 PM rue_mohr: aka, direct swap
11:34 PM rue_mohr: arg, that needs a real image...
11:36 PM furrywolf: oh, you're all going to get a laugh about why it said there were no updates available.
11:36 PM rue_mohr: reboot?
11:37 PM furrywolf: nope
11:38 PM zhanx: wrong model on the router
11:38 PM furrywolf: I started poking at their web interface with the javascript debugger, and found that, due to absolutely horrid code, "no updates available" was the error message shown when anything at all, of any kind, went wrong.
11:38 PM furrywolf: even, in fact, in the case of "this ugly horribly written crap only works in IE."
11:38 PM zhanx: oh they defaulted to f u
11:39 PM furrywolf: I dug out my laptop with some automotive software on it that only runs on windows, started IE... "new update available! Click to install"
11:39 PM rue_mohr: wow
11:43 PM zhanx: rue_mohr, i thought you made a gear reduction y
11:43 PM rue_mohr: clicking as fast as I can
11:43 PM zhanx: k
11:44 PM rue_mohr: the image I just put int hat last thingiverse post, shows a bit of the gearbox
11:44 PM zhanx: yep that is the one
11:51 PM zhanx: rue fyi i want to see your gear reduction to see if i can use it also on the 3d scanner
11:52 PM zhanx: if not then i will make a 4:1 gear reduction bearing to use on it
11:52 PM rue_mohr: I have a whole gear library
11:55 PM zhanx: i have the gear pdf from tom also
11:56 PM zhanx: i'll do a 10:1 and a 4:1 reduction gear replacement and see which gives a better scan
11:56 PM zhanx: they you can make this 3d scanner and do the same
11:56 PM zhanx: them
11:57 PM zhanx: I think the 10:1 with standard microstepping will do a better job
