12:00 AM rue_mohr: 333Hz
12:03 AM rue_mohr: ok, well, for now, I'm ok with the exhaust situation
12:03 AM rue_mohr: technically I could bojangle L brackets under the 6 bolts
12:03 AM rue_mohr: or even add bosses off the side at 90
12:03 AM Tom_L: or make it uber thick and just thread the side face of it
12:03 AM rue_mohr: y
12:03 AM rue_mohr: I'd prefer the nema plate
12:03 AM Tom_L: i got an 1.5" plate the other day
12:03 AM Tom_L: plans are to not need it
12:03 AM rue_mohr: I dont know if I trust a nema36 plate to hold that engine running, but, technically, its a larger bolt pattern
12:03 AM rue_mohr: heh
12:03 AM rue_mohr: name a REALLY HUGE encoder wheel :)
12:04 AM Tom_L: rubber mount it
12:04 AM rue_mohr: index error /name/make/
12:04 AM Tom_L: or it'll vibrate apart
12:04 AM rue_mohr: hmm
12:04 AM rue_mohr: I suppose the compressors are belt drive anyhow
12:04 AM Tom_L: guarantee that
12:07 AM * rue_mohr wonders about a jet engine running an air-air compressor
12:07 AM rue_mohr: huh, supper!
12:07 AM Tom_L: the engineer i talked to this week told me all the power plants around here are going jet powered
12:09 AM Tom_L: i'm just waiting on a load of laundry then sleep
12:11 AM rue_mohr: ramjet compressor?
12:11 AM Tom_L: i dunno
12:11 AM rue_mohr: would it be more efficient than using an engine+compressor?
03:17 PM rue_shop3: ok, back from garage sales, got too much stuff
03:17 PM rue_shop3: furrywolf, pneumatic wire gun! (brads)
03:17 PM rue_shop3: $!0
03:17 PM rue_shop3: $10 even
05:25 PM rue_shop4: 2N3858
05:25 PM rue_shop4: 9014
06:25 PM rue_shop4: zhanx, your using OTA for the esp8266
06:25 PM rue_shop4: ?
06:53 PM rue_shop3: Tom_L, those discs are sweet
06:54 PM rue_shop3: just lining it up with the rest of the encoder I'd made
07:45 PM Tom_L: ok i'm finally back
07:46 PM Tom_L: do they trigger the detector ok?
07:58 PM rue_shop3: thats not even in question
07:58 PM rue_shop3: the much larger question is how to mount the detectors
07:58 PM rue_shop3: I'll show ya the images I have of the work so far, but with your disc
07:59 PM rue_shop3: I need to etch a board for the encoder, I might use "mechanical etching"
07:59 PM rue_shop3: ;)
08:00 PM Tom_L: if you mount them 6 deg off or 186 or whatever they should be good
08:02 PM rue_shop4: the cat is biting the wires from, and licking an old computer power supply in the shop, should I be worried?
08:02 PM rue_shop4: the idea so far is to solder one down anywhere
08:03 PM rue_shop4: and then have pads that allow me to adjust the other one by about 0.1", solder it down, and adjust the position while its running
08:03 PM Tom_L: no not anywhere. that's what cad is for... it makes things more accurate
08:04 PM Tom_L: so draw the footprint and put it at 0 then put the other rotated at 96 or 186 degrees
08:04 PM rue_shop4: rather adjust it in
08:04 PM Tom_L: if they're the same sensor they should align
08:05 PM Tom_L: within any accuracy of that encoder
08:06 PM Tom_L: it would have to be exact mark and space for both direction waveforms to be exact
08:10 PM Tom_L: i could make a triangular shape slot to make them more accurate but it would be at the cost of fewer cpr
08:10 PM Tom_L: i still think it would be somewhat of a tradeoff
08:13 PM rue_shop3: I 3d printed a new back for them
08:14 PM rue_shop3: so far its a lot of custom parts, the shaft is turned, its 1/4" with a C clip slot and a turndown for the disc., the mounting collar is a remachined M10 bolt, the pcb is cnc cut, and of course the interrupter disc
08:22 PM Tom_L: pics
08:22 PM Tom_L: was the hole close to 5mm?
08:23 PM Tom_L: maybe .001" or so under
08:23 PM Tom_L: i thought i might have a 5mm reamer but haven't found it yet
08:24 PM Tom_L: i'm fairly sure i can get 4 & 5mm ones
08:33 PM Tom_L: you should send the dxf for the motor mount
08:43 PM rue_shop3: close enough that it pressed on a 5mm shaft
08:43 PM rue_shop3: the engine mount?
08:44 PM rue_shop3: are you insane!?
08:44 PM rue_shop4: yes...
08:44 PM rue_shop3: NOT YOU!
08:44 PM rue_shop4: yea, sorry to break it to you
08:44 PM rue_shop3: no I mean I wasn't talking to you...
08:45 PM Tom_L: scaling in catia kinda sucks
08:46 PM Tom_L: can only do one dimension at a time
08:46 PM rue_shop3: 1!??! THATS insane
08:47 PM Tom_L: unless i'm missing it
08:47 PM Tom_L: but i never use it so that's possible
08:47 PM rue_shop3: is it a typed command?
08:47 PM Tom_L: no there's a dialog box for it
08:48 PM Tom_itx: http://catiadoc.free.fr/online/cfyug_C2/cfyugscaling.htm
08:49 PM Tom_L: maybe i could scale the dxf import before i turn it into a part
08:49 PM Tom_L: i didn't try it there
08:49 PM Tom_L: i'm just messin around since i don't have much goin on
08:52 PM Tom_L: ok i found the 3d one
08:52 PM Tom_L: called 'Affinity' instead of scale
08:53 PM Tom_itx: http://www.dkszone.net/catia-v5-tutorial-what-is-difference
08:53 PM Tom_L: but i can do that in my other cad cam
09:19 PM rue_shop3: huh
10:35 PM zhanx_ is now known as zhanx
10:36 PM zhanx: rue yes
10:38 PM rue_shop3: I might like your help wiht that
10:38 PM rue_shop3: do they run as webserver?
10:39 PM zhanx: half and half
10:39 PM rue_shop3: I need to come up with code for the tea machine
10:39 PM zhanx: k, keep in mind i worked 14 hours today
10:39 PM rue_shop3: i want to throw ota on it and closeup the hardware
10:39 PM rue_shop3: not req'd today
10:39 PM zhanx: k
10:40 PM rue_shop3: i'm playing with missc stuff
10:40 PM zhanx: i ran 2500 feet of cat5e today in 3 different places
10:40 PM zhanx: i am now broke
10:41 PM zhanx: i need a credit line asap
10:42 PM zhanx: I did 3 runs for Herman Miller today. the welding company
10:43 PM Tom_L: get them to pay you
10:43 PM zhanx: net terms is 30 for most places
10:43 PM Tom_L: heh, not if you're broke
10:43 PM zhanx: true
10:43 PM zhanx: i am owed a bit over 19k
10:44 PM zhanx: 18k*
10:44 PM zhanx: taxes on that will be like 3 or 4k
10:45 PM zhanx: ugh
10:47 PM zhanx: fuck it, I am drinking beer. I dont need to stress this stuff that much
10:58 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/encoder/encoder_wheel_30.jpg
10:58 PM Tom_L: that one's more uniformly spaced
10:59 PM Tom_L: but i'm not sure i can get 30 slots with that cutter i've got
11:11 PM rue_shop4: the slots dont actually have to go that far in radius
11:12 PM rue_shop4: if their about 2mm long its prolly ok
11:14 PM Tom_L: but would those work better?
11:15 PM Tom_L: i'll keep them close to the edge but shorten them and see what happens
11:22 PM * rue_shop4 realizes he has 2 cnc machines and 3 3d printers all running
11:26 PM rue_shop4: better is relaitive, one of my closer goals is for digital control knobs
11:26 PM rue_shop4: so, any signal is fine
11:26 PM rue_shop4: if its about quadrature decoding, prolly want to be pickeir
11:27 PM Tom_L: i'll work on an even spaced one
11:27 PM Tom_L: how far from the edge is the slot?
11:27 PM Tom_L: ~.025" ?
11:28 PM Tom_L: calipers are in the shop and i'm not goin out there now
11:33 PM rue_shop4: as much as you want
11:33 PM rue_shop4: the ring is just there to make it easy to cut
11:33 PM furrywolf: meh, where's kat? I have a question for her.
11:34 PM Tom_L: i didn't know how far in the sensor was on the interuptor part
11:35 PM rue_shop4: I think kat got angry again
11:35 PM Tom_L: ok rue_mohr, here's a question for you. the cutter is .03125 so if there are 30 slots and 30 spaces, what's the arc those will evenly space in?
11:36 PM Tom_L: so .3125 * 60 is the circumference
11:36 PM Tom_L: for that arc
11:36 PM Tom_L: or diameter
11:36 PM rue_shop4: well, we need to know the circ of the inner end of the slot
11:36 PM Tom_L: that's what i'm getting at
11:37 PM Tom_L: the cutter will cut wide at the OD and narrow at the ID
11:37 PM rue_shop4: dia 14.6mm
11:37 PM Tom_L: and the minimum at the ID is .03215
11:37 PM rue_shop4: oh, evenly
11:37 PM rue_shop4: 1 min
11:37 PM Tom_L: let's see if that works
11:37 PM Tom_L: so the center of the .03215 arc will fall on that circle
11:37 PM rue_shop4: root@blackie2:/files/programming/c/CAM# circle -c 1.875
11:38 PM rue_shop4: Radius is : 0.298416
11:38 PM rue_shop4: Diameter is: 0.596831
11:38 PM rue_shop4: Circumfrence is : 1.875000
11:38 PM rue_shop4: Area is : 0.279765
11:38 PM rue_shop4: Sphere area: 1.119058
11:38 PM rue_shop4: Sphere volume: 0.111315
11:38 PM Tom_L: that's not right
11:38 PM rue_shop4: I missed
11:38 PM rue_shop4: you horried me
11:38 PM rue_shop4: circle -c 18.75
11:38 PM rue_shop4: Radius is : 2.984155
11:38 PM rue_shop4: Diameter is: 5.968310

11:38 PM rue_shop4: Sphere area: 111.905823
11:39 PM rue_shop4: Sphere volume: 111.314774
11:39 PM rue_shop4: no
11:39 PM rue_shop4: wtf is the bit size
11:39 PM Tom_L: .03215"
11:39 PM rue_shop4: ok *60
11:39 PM rue_shop4: calc 0.03125*60
11:39 PM rue_shop4: 0.03125*60 -->> 1.875
11:39 PM Tom_L: is the circumference
11:39 PM rue_shop4: thats the circ
11:39 PM rue_shop4: circle -c 1.875
11:39 PM rue_shop4: Radius is : 0.298416
11:39 PM rue_shop4: Diameter is: 0.596831

11:39 PM rue_shop4: Area is : 0.279765
11:39 PM rue_shop4: Sphere area: 1.119058
11:39 PM Tom_L: wait, i need the diameter for that circle
11:39 PM rue_shop4: Sphere volume: 0.111315
11:39 PM rue_shop4: 0.5968
11:40 PM rue_shop4: thats right
11:40 PM rue_shop4: I cant type with this big bandage on my finger
11:40 PM Tom_L: no that's too small
11:40 PM Tom_L: is that inch or mm
11:40 PM rue_shop4: ok, my 4 track disc is redone, yay
11:40 PM rue_shop4: inch
11:41 PM Tom_L: still looks wrong
11:41 PM rue_shop4: thats the id of the slot start
11:42 PM Tom_L: i need the diameter for the arc center of those arcs
11:42 PM Tom_L: evenly spaced the arc is .03125" * 60
11:43 PM rue_shop4: calc 0.03125*60
11:43 PM rue_shop4: 0.03125*60 -->> 1.875
11:43 PM rue_shop4: 1.875 inches
11:43 PM Tom_L: right
11:43 PM Tom_L: that's the circumference right?
11:43 PM rue_shop4: Radius is : 2.984155
11:43 PM rue_shop4: Diameter is: 5.968310
11:43 PM rue_shop4: Circumfrence is : 18.750000
11:43 PM rue_shop4: yes
11:44 PM Tom_L: it just doesn't look right
11:45 PM Tom_L: but it is
11:45 PM Tom_L: that's gonna be a short slot
