#garfield Calendar

12:01 AM katsmeow: furrywolf was using a lil pond for water storage, iirc, i am using the pool
12:24 AM katsmeow: i see clg still has a bug
12:29 AM rue_: clg?
12:29 AM rue_: clog?
12:29 AM katsmeow: yeas
12:30 AM rue_: we have a spam issue on freenode, the hackers are at it again, but their on a real rampage this time
12:30 AM katsmeow: with the midnite disconnects and double reconnects
12:30 AM katsmeow: i don;t see any
12:30 AM katsmeow: spam is usually advertisers, not hacking?
12:31 AM rue_: almost everying on freenode has becoem register-only
12:31 AM rue_: kat, remember the people who would flood freenode with anti-freenode spam every year after lilo died?
12:31 AM katsmeow: no
01:19 AM * katsmeow gnaws on a cold dead french fry
01:21 AM katsmeow: by rewiring the generators, i can make them put out 120@40, which gives me 240@40a and completely solves the phasing issues of connecting two together
01:21 AM katsmeow: oops, wrong rewhm
02:08 AM * katsmeow noticed today the why she has been dropping the feed bowl : her fingerprints are worn off again
02:19 AM katsmeow: gnites
08:29 AM rue_bed: http://www.next.gr/uploads/135-8821.png
08:40 PM Tom_itx: rue_
08:40 PM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
08:52 PM katsmeow: rue?
08:52 PM katsmeow: rue_ ?
08:52 PM katsmeow: Tom?
08:53 PM Tom_L: kat
08:53 PM katsmeow: do you sell on ebay?
08:53 PM Tom_L: no
08:53 PM katsmeow: drat
08:54 PM Tom_L: when i sold i did it from my website and used paypal
08:54 PM katsmeow: rue ... if i win https://www.ebay.com/itm/392097895982 and send you 400 of them, can you sell them on ebay for $2 each (normally $4-$5 each) and send me half the money?
08:54 PM katsmeow: it's a slow 8bit analog-digital converter with an 8-input mux, perfect for sampling weatehr stations, buttons and knobs, etc
08:55 PM katsmeow: but it's slow, 10,000 sps, you can't sample audio or video with it
08:55 PM katsmeow: shit, it just went to $92
08:55 PM Tom_L: 96
08:56 PM katsmeow: 100.90
08:56 PM Tom_L: there goes the profit
08:56 PM katsmeow: they could go to $500 and still make money reselling,, but i am dropping out
08:56 PM katsmeow: sorry to bother
08:56 PM Tom_L: hardly a bother
08:57 PM * katsmeow closes the tab because she cannot bear to watch, and bangs her head on the table
08:58 PM Tom_L: do they go nuts in the last 30 sec?
08:58 PM katsmeow: often
08:59 PM Tom_L: i've never bid
08:59 PM Tom_L: i'll either buy it now or make an offer
09:00 PM Tom_L: i wanna see if the guy gets burned at the last sec now
09:00 PM katsmeow: that seller often has great deals on electronics, in terms of 1000's of chips per sale being cheaper than buying 20 chips from anyone else
09:05 PM katsmeow: so how are ye?
09:05 PM Tom_L: back hurts but ok
09:06 PM Tom_L: the odometer rolled over again recently and i'm starting to feel it
09:07 PM furrywolf: I completely ruined my back today... had to deliver 1300lbs of boxes to the school.
09:07 PM * katsmeow is over 60 now, and was up on scaffolding plastering the new ceiling,,, too little food (need to lose weight) , too little water, too little sleep, and over 100F.......
09:07 PM furrywolf: meep!
09:07 PM * furrywolf pounces katsmeow
09:07 PM katsmeow: got bad case of heat exhaustion
09:07 PM * katsmeow rolls over and looks pounced
09:07 PM Tom_L: looks like he may get it
09:08 PM katsmeow: who may get what?
09:08 PM Tom_L: hahaha
09:08 PM Tom_L: bid went up by 2 with like 5 sec to go
09:08 PM Tom_L: went for 142 iirc
09:09 PM katsmeow: damned good price
09:09 PM zhanx: on webchat
09:09 PM zhanx: upgrading
09:09 PM katsmeow: i just downgraded fierfuzz to 50.something, 59.something kept crashing
09:10 PM katsmeow: furry, dija see what i said about water?
09:10 PM zhanx: nope
09:10 PM furrywolf: no, I just got home from work, first thing I saw was tom_l saying his back hurt.
09:10 PM katsmeow: i said it yesterday
09:11 PM zhanx: dividing up the hd and backuping on live cd, i did not check the logs first
09:11 PM katsmeow: zhanx, i said it to furrywolf
09:11 PM katsmeow: but you can read it too
09:11 PM furrywolf: I haven't seen you say anything in years. :)
09:11 PM furrywolf: hence the pounce!
09:12 PM katsmeow: you were not even online, i i just took a month off
09:13 PM * furrywolf curls up next to katsmeow, back hurting too much to actually do anything useful tonight
09:13 PM furrywolf: 1642lbs delivered today
09:14 PM * katsmeow offers a back brace to push the musles, and to walk all over furry
09:14 PM furrywolf: unfortunately, it's my upper back, braces don't help
09:17 PM * katsmeow puts a shorty on the wulf and pulls it way up to his bra line and cinches it up snug
09:17 PM katsmeow: you finish it, not too tight, here's some cheeseburger bits
09:18 PM furrywolf: shorty?
09:18 PM * katsmeow looks for a pic
09:19 PM katsmeow: found one
09:19 PM katsmeow: https://i.ebayimg.com/thumbs/images/g/fLMAAOSwG0BZdk0q/s-l200.jpg
09:20 PM katsmeow: vs one that is 3ft tall and does actually nothing for your upper back
09:20 PM furrywolf: never heard of that being called a shorty before. heh.
09:21 PM katsmeow: i put bacon on the cheeseburger, i hope that was ok
09:21 PM furrywolf: that's too low to reach where my back is mushed, anyway...
09:21 PM katsmeow: that's why i pulled it way up to your bra line, silly
09:22 PM furrywolf: bacon is ok. :)
09:25 PM katsmeow: furry, neighbor with rottwilers (etc) left, i have been discovering all the things i useto enjoy doing, and needed to do, going back 15 years
09:25 PM furrywolf: yay :)
09:26 PM furrywolf: my neighbors have gotten significantly worse... I've been trying to find somewhere else to move to, with no luck.
09:26 PM katsmeow: i am too old to finish the "vaulted 16ft ceiling with skylites" idea, so just putting in a lowered ciling and calling that wonderful space up there "attic"
09:27 PM furrywolf: they're pot growers of the worst kind... constant noise, garbage everywhere, a dozen junk vehicles, big diesel trucks coming and going all hours day and night, random trimmers and homeless people coming and going,...
09:27 PM katsmeow: the top floor has been too hot to be in , as shown by getting heat exhaustion working up there, again
09:28 PM furrywolf: worst heat I've been in was back when I was installing satellite internet dishes... I had to run some cables through someone's attic. it was 113 degrees outside. we don't know how hot it was in the attic... because his thermometer started showing EEE at 160.
09:29 PM katsmeow: all the thermometers i put in the livingroom died,, the olde glass mercury versions actually broke
09:30 PM katsmeow: commercial grade electronics don;t take heat well
09:32 PM furrywolf: I really wish I could find a house to buy.
09:33 PM furrywolf: but, I can't afford any of them.
09:33 PM katsmeow: don;t all houses out tehre start at $300k ?
09:34 PM furrywolf: pretty much.
09:36 PM furrywolf: living with my current neighbors is really not working, and it's very unlikely they're going anywhere.
09:37 PM katsmeow: you renting, right? should be easier to get out
09:37 PM furrywolf: it's moving somewhere else that's the problem
09:38 PM katsmeow: get an old delivery van and find a shadey spot to parkit till you find a new place
09:38 PM furrywolf: I have a nice delivery van, but that's probably even worse.
09:38 PM furrywolf: I have a lot of stuff.
09:39 PM * katsmeow nods
09:39 PM katsmeow: i know the feeling, what George Carlin said about stuff is real true
09:39 PM furrywolf: I don't know what he said.
09:40 PM katsmeow: a comedy skit, it's on yt
09:40 PM katsmeow: it's short
09:41 PM katsmeow: yeow, it's almost 10pm already
09:41 PM katsmeow: it's cool outside but still too hot upstairs, i was never allowed to have a window fan running here
09:41 PM katsmeow: threatened with jail time by DA's lawyer if i did
09:42 PM furrywolf: brb
09:44 PM katsmeow: tomorrow, i wanna build a rain-shield box for a "box fan", and cut a hole where the door to the east side porch was to be, and see if i can get some more air in here
09:46 PM katsmeow: i need to replace the lil 8" fan used for pulling heat out at the roof peak, with a bigger fan
09:48 PM katsmeow: it would be sooooooooo nice to have enough clean not-smelly water to take a shower too, and have a shower to take the shower in
09:48 PM furrywolf: sediment, 0.5micron, UV lamp?
09:49 PM katsmeow: plus storage tanks and plumbing
09:49 PM katsmeow: i have some 33gal syrup barrels from the Coke plant
09:50 PM * furrywolf moves in with katsmeow, and drills a well
09:51 PM katsmeow: can't, there's a 10ft layer of rock 70ft down, but sand below that, the creek cuts thru the sand just as it exits my property
09:51 PM furrywolf: that's not that deep
09:52 PM katsmeow: BUT, a lil 1gal/min pump can push 1000 gallons / day up to me from the creek anywhere , into the pool/tank outside the house
09:52 PM katsmeow: right, 70ft isn;t deep, but there's no water above the rock
09:53 PM katsmeow: even in drought, there's lil pools of moving water in places in the creek
09:53 PM katsmeow: i can pump from those
09:54 PM katsmeow: you turned me on to those lil 3-diaphram pumps
09:54 PM furrywolf: the shurflo ones?
09:54 PM katsmeow: yeas, but they get made in china now too, but my 120v one is shurflo
09:55 PM furrywolf: just about everything is made in china now
09:56 PM katsmeow: the shurflo prolly is too
09:56 PM katsmeow: seems all the 12vdc ones are
09:57 PM katsmeow: i had already run some 120ft of 120v down there tho, so runing another 100ft to the pump location as 120v beat converting it to 12v and maybe not getting eough power down to it
09:57 PM furrywolf: yeah, 12v doesn't do long runs well.
09:58 PM katsmeow: plus, there's 1440 minutes in 24 hrs, so even one gallon per minute is over 1000 gallons per day, and i use a $80 inflateable pool as a tank to hold it
09:59 PM katsmeow: but most years, rain has been enough to keep it full, i have a large roof catchment area
10:00 PM katsmeow: if i get a shower working again, now that i can hammer nails and cut tin and run the exhaust fan, i'll want WAY more water
10:01 PM katsmeow: and need inside storage for clean water, since the RO and UV is too slow to run a shower in real time
10:01 PM furrywolf: the usual treatment here for stream water is a couple pre-filters, including a 0.5 micron one to remove giardia cysts, followed by a slow (1GPM) pass through a UV lamp unit
10:01 PM rue_bed: so hard to read with double vision....
10:01 PM * furrywolf gives rue_bed an eyepatch
10:02 PM * katsmeow gives rue a large C clamp
10:02 PM rue_bed: :)
10:03 PM * rue_bed with a large C clamp in one eye, covered with a patch, sets out to find some supper
10:03 PM * katsmeow gets a 1hp 1800 rpm motor, bends the shaft a lil with a sledgehammer, and bolts it to Tom's recliner
10:03 PM * rue_bed jumps on toms recliner and goes for a ride first
10:04 PM rue_bed: ududududuududduumumumumumummmm we e e e e e e e e
10:04 PM rue_bed: supper
10:04 PM rue_bed: oh god, how I hate eating
10:04 PM furrywolf: sybian recliner? :P
10:04 PM rue_bed: kat, I need to port my brain now
10:05 PM rue_bed: https://www.barnardhealth.us/human-brain/images/2125_2461_739.png
10:05 PM rue_bed: I found an oragami dieagram for the brain, see!?
10:05 PM katsmeow: the new EPYC Threadripper cpu is due out, if you can port to that
10:06 PM katsmeow: i still wanna port myself outs of the usa
10:06 PM katsmeow: fully how it doesn;t start looking human till month 8
10:06 PM * furrywolf wouldn't mind a sybian, but they're really expensive
10:07 PM rue_bed: the developed system is a mess of folding, but thats it, right there
10:07 PM rue_bed: thats how the layout goes
10:13 PM katsmeow: i still think you cannot port you into the computer, but you might port a copy or simulation that thinks it's a ported you
10:14 PM furrywolf: but can you prove there's a difference?
10:14 PM katsmeow: maybe
10:15 PM katsmeow: but even if there is no difference, if the original and the copy exist at the same time, tthen the copy isn;t the original
10:17 PM katsmeow: amitite?
10:17 PM katsmeow: amrtite?
10:17 PM * katsmeow looks at the keybd
10:17 PM katsmeow: amirite?
10:18 PM furrywolf: lol
10:22 PM furrywolf: brb
10:25 PM rue_: katsmeow, I dont know yet
10:25 PM rue_: trying to figure out what we are
10:25 PM rue_: I think its a cluster of state machines
10:25 PM rue_: part of my problem, is, what level do you emulate ?
10:26 PM katsmeow: it is a cluster, but maybe not state machines, since it's quite programmable and reconfigureable, if it wants to be
10:27 PM rue_: what I do know is that its Pulse Freq modulated
10:27 PM rue_: and there is something interesting about that
10:27 PM rue_: the latency of a pfm system can be super low, even tho it can only fire max about 60Hz
10:28 PM katsmeow: it's massively parallel is why
10:28 PM rue_: I was trying to understand how a pfm logic system would work, it gets interesting, its not logic like we know it
10:28 PM rue_: yes, verry massivly parallel
10:28 PM katsmeow: bio systems are slow in single units
10:29 PM rue_: what I'd liek to find is neuron-neuron firing latency data
10:29 PM rue_: ah, there is my mug, brb
10:31 PM katsmeow: they vary a lot
10:31 PM katsmeow: there's 3 or 4 different nerves below the neck, that run a different speeds
10:31 PM katsmeow: i have no data on brain neurons
10:32 PM * katsmeow did not become a brain surgeon
10:40 PM rue_: not much of the medical community knows anthing, you have to talk to researchers
10:41 PM katsmeow: of gather enough data to hazard your own guesses
10:44 PM katsmeow: has anyone else noticed imgur's new look is served by https://cdn.amplitude.com/* ? , which is an analytics company
10:45 PM furrywolf: I don't use imgr much. haven't noticed anything.
10:45 PM katsmeow: oh
10:48 PM * katsmeow grabs the carpet with her front claws and slowly backs up
10:48 PM zhanx: ok reinstall complete
10:49 PM katsmeow: <crrrraaacck>
10:49 PM katsmeow: ahhhhhh
10:49 PM katsmeow: what did you reinstalL?
10:50 PM zhanx: 2 hours 18 minutes to back up everything, install new hd, and reinstall an OS
10:50 PM zhanx: ubuntu
10:50 PM zhanx: hd was going out
10:50 PM katsmeow: had to do that to one of the winxp puters a few months ago
10:50 PM katsmeow: only, no reinstall disc or upgrades to be gotten
10:51 PM zhanx: tomorrow i can load up all my tools for the project i am working on
10:52 PM zhanx: my house is 80% voice commands now
10:53 PM katsmeow: i tell my house what to do all the time, but all it is willing to do is "stay"
10:53 PM furrywolf: mine is 0%
10:53 PM rue_: YES!!! the varactor diodees arrived!!!!!
10:53 PM zhanx: mine will soon turn lights on as I walk from room to room etc
10:53 PM katsmeow: whatcha variacting?
10:54 PM katsmeow: zhanx, x11 syatem from 1970 could do that
10:54 PM zhanx: kat true
10:54 PM furrywolf: mine turns on lights as I walk into rooms too. There's a special electromechanical touch sensor installed in the wall next to each door, that uses kinetic energy from my hand to activate electrical contacts to supply power to the lights.
10:54 PM zhanx: but i can tell my system to dim the lights per room etc
10:55 PM katsmeow: i knew a guy in Bham, no joke, the lites in the stairs came on only after you fell down them in the dark
10:55 PM zhanx: furry i am so lazy i am spending extra effort not to do that
10:55 PM zhanx: that would suck kat
10:55 PM rue_: katsmeow, bench freq gen, 0.1 -> 10Mhz
10:56 PM rue_: base osc is 1M->10M
10:56 PM zhanx: oh look says the house you fell, let me help now and turn on a light
10:56 PM rue_: then 7490 dividers down in ranges
10:56 PM rue_: zhanx, heh, just after the nick of time?
10:56 PM zhanx: yep
10:57 PM katsmeow: there's a nick in the matrix
10:57 PM zhanx: the delay on my home control so far is 8ms
10:57 PM zhanx: which is not that bad
10:57 PM rue_: its technology, it'll screw up on ya
10:57 PM rue_: how do you measure the delay of a voice command to the ms level?
10:58 PM katsmeow: yea, generally the first lightning strike or prolonged power outage
10:58 PM rue_: wow, 6 packages in total
10:58 PM zhanx: interrupt timers
10:58 PM rue_: canada post must be trying to clear out some space
10:58 PM zhanx: most of my delay is the computer not the relay
10:59 PM furrywolf: are you doing your own processing, or making yourself completely dependent on a large corporation?
10:59 PM zhanx: open source furry
10:59 PM furrywolf: good
10:59 PM furrywolf: the people using amazon products and then getting annoyed when amazon drops support for them, on the other hand...
11:00 PM katsmeow: or they get hacked and someone else operates the house and cleans their bank too
11:00 PM zhanx: i have a google home mini for the kids, it controls their tv, as they are young and spelling they suck at still
11:01 PM zhanx: it kind of works with home assist, but not always
11:04 PM Tom_L: hmm, busiest channel on irc...
11:04 PM furrywolf: as long as I stick to girls with strapons, not likely to have that problem.
11:05 PM katsmeow: House, change the lites to channel 12
11:05 PM katsmeow: very true, furry
11:05 PM zhanx: thank god they dont work on text kat, they are on channel 9 right now
11:05 PM katsmeow: heh
11:06 PM zhanx: nice thing is, i can turn off all the lights, and with i get home and the phone connects to wifi they turn on
11:07 PM zhanx: if the phone is on
11:07 PM * furrywolf is fine with the electromechanical kinetic energy activated sensors
11:08 PM zhanx: furrywolf, i saved 45 dollars last month on the power bill due to shutting off left on lights
11:09 PM furrywolf: that seems unlikely. also, you can shut lights off with every other technology too.
11:09 PM zhanx: remember i have young kids
11:09 PM katsmeow: how much do you save when shutting them off?
11:09 PM zhanx: they turn on lights just to turn them on now
11:10 PM furrywolf: this can be fixed, too.
11:10 PM katsmeow: motion sensors
11:10 PM zhanx: yep hence why i added them
11:11 PM zhanx: furry i leave for work normally before the wife, i come home and 3/4 of the lights were left on
11:11 PM furrywolf: by my math, $45/month at $0.15/kwh is a continuous load of over 120 watts.
11:11 PM zhanx: now they shut off
11:11 PM furrywolf: if those are typical LED lights, it would take about ten of them running 24/7 to cost $45.
11:11 PM zhanx: half were led, and there are 19
11:11 PM rue_: zhanx, drivers yet?
11:12 PM furrywolf: they should all be LED. :)
11:12 PM zhanx: 2 more days rue according to the shipping
11:12 PM furrywolf: also, how many decades of light-running does the automation project cost? :P
11:12 PM katsmeow: furry, i can see that, my barn has over 10 lites, so does the livingroom,, there's more than 10 in the hallway down here too, if all were screwed in
11:12 PM zhanx: furry 2 years :D
11:13 PM zhanx: but its also my garden system
11:14 PM furrywolf: grrrrr. I'm getting really sick of ebay sellers advertising standard or expedited shipping, then shipping smartpost or surepost.
11:15 PM katsmeow: yea, i bough something from someone in Utah, was supposed to go usps, went fedex, from venesuela
11:15 PM rue_: :) kat, your presence rounds this channel off nicely.
11:15 PM katsmeow: got tracking number today, supposed to be here tomorrow
11:15 PM zhanx: how is that even possible?
11:16 PM katsmeow: so many things wrong with this pic, not sure what to be most upset about
11:16 PM katsmeow: 8/13/2018 - Monday
11:16 PM katsmeow: 9:43 am
11:16 PM katsmeow: Shipment information sent to FedEx
11:17 PM katsmeow: Label created
11:17 PM katsmeow: Shipment information sent to FedEx
11:17 PM katsmeow: Get Status Updates
11:17 PM katsmeow: From
11:17 PM katsmeow: CARACAS, DC VE
11:17 PM katsmeow: To
11:17 PM katsmeow: PELL CITY, AL US
11:18 PM katsmeow: i note they changed the deliery data to this friday, from the other end of SOUTH America
11:18 PM katsmeow: hell, Fedex cannot get anything to me from this side of the usa
11:18 PM katsmeow: in 5 days
11:18 PM zhanx: fedex just took 2 weeks to get me a package from cali to ny
11:19 PM zhanx: and it was overnighted
11:19 PM katsmeow: Tennassee to Alabama is longer than 5 days
11:19 PM furrywolf: I'm surprised how well dhl international did with something I ordered last week.
11:19 PM zhanx: i got it today, no notice nothing, and i have a fedex business account that notifies me of deliveries
11:19 PM furrywolf: shipped friday 8/10, supposed to be here wednesday.
11:20 PM furrywolf: shipped from hong kong
11:20 PM katsmeow: furry, have you noticed some shipping from singapore, indonesia, etc is being sent thru europe now, i just lost a package in turkey
11:20 PM zhanx: dhl is on point with that, they contracted Este's trucking to help with it
11:21 PM furrywolf: this one went straight from hong kong to la.
11:21 PM furrywolf: LA
11:21 PM furrywolf: it might even be here tomorrow from the tracking progress
11:21 PM zhanx: katsmeow, i have noticed that, it seems to be a lowest bidder on the flight to get it here
11:22 PM katsmeow: i dunno that it was air, it may have been a stopover on a ship
11:22 PM katsmeow: it's been 2 months
11:22 PM zhanx: i ordered a spudding valve
11:22 PM zhanx: it was in india this morning
11:22 PM katsmeow: whatever you do in your own bedroom is,,,,,,
11:23 PM zhanx: its a pressure control valve for co2
11:23 PM rue_: furrywolf, I only woke up a bit ago, and I'd drawn this unipolar driver schematic last night, I'm hoping to give it a try before I push it at you
11:24 PM rue_: but wait, I'm shorted out, its not for you ints for _unreal_ in #robotics
11:24 PM rue_: haha
11:24 PM furrywolf: lol
11:24 PM rue_: would YOU store data on an oraganic storage drive!?
11:25 PM zhanx: no
11:25 PM furrywolf: know what I've learned about stepper drivers? give centent, gecko, etc money. :P
11:25 PM rue_: oh so many packages...
11:25 PM zhanx: must be nice rue_
11:25 PM katsmeow: soon as the Swiss are done with that new 35 mile long tunnel they are diggin, we need to sic them on a tunnel under the Bering Strait
11:25 PM zhanx: granted i broke the rue_ bank for ordering stuff
11:25 PM zhanx: I ordered 20 d1 mini wemos's
11:26 PM zhanx: kat as long as not the company doing the seattle subway tunnels its good
11:26 PM * katsmeow nods
11:26 PM zhanx: that broken boring machine is still down there!
11:27 PM rue_: what hapened to that?
11:27 PM rue_: they mis?
11:27 PM rue_: oh
11:27 PM rue_: did they ahve to dig around it?
11:27 PM zhanx: it broke, no one can "fix" it
11:27 PM rue_: hahaha
11:27 PM katsmeow: tourist attraction!
11:27 PM rue_: did they say what broke?
11:27 PM katsmeow: low income housing!
11:27 PM zhanx: hydraulics
11:28 PM katsmeow: ?
11:28 PM zhanx: then it sat forever and now its also electronics that need replacing
11:29 PM furrywolf: bbl, wolfy bedtime
11:29 PM zhanx: kat it blew a hose connected to the head, lost all pressure, then it became environmental due to the spill etc
11:29 PM katsmeow: gnites wolfy
11:29 PM zhanx: a big cluster fubar
11:29 PM katsmeow: o
11:30 PM zhanx: once it sat over a year it became worst
11:31 PM zhanx: the company that owns it, charged the city, got an insurance payout due to the city politics and left it.
11:32 PM rue_: ah, so its free salvage
11:32 PM rue_: I wonder if all the steel is frozen
11:33 PM rue_: if it was forced, would it move or sheer apart
11:33 PM zhanx: beats me rue_ i got a buddy out there, that has been to see it twice for fun
11:33 PM rue_: people are that bad that they cant fix it at all?
11:33 PM katsmeow: oh, then it will get stripped of copper in no time
11:33 PM zhanx: its more like, they have to fix the spill before they can fix the machine, but they have to fix the machine to fix the spill
11:34 PM zhanx: kat i bet that has happened
11:34 PM rue_: thats just a political problem
11:34 PM rue_: getting the machine going shouldn't be much of an issue
11:35 PM zhanx: which is normal in west coast cities, they want a bribe
11:35 PM rue_: oh, oh, oh I want to play with my varactor diodes!!!!
11:35 PM katsmeow: Police reported today that hackers jump started the TBM and drove it away. Police are pursuing the TBM with all possible speed.
11:37 PM zhanx: so they are walking next to it and taking lots of breaks as it catches up
11:37 PM rue_shop4: I took the 3d printer off the soldering station and put it on the livingroom rack, there is SO much benchspace now!
11:38 PM katsmeow: melty plasic smell permeates the house
11:39 PM rue_shop4: no the PLA is ok
11:39 PM rue_shop4: the ABS on the other hand, wholy #$%@#$^
11:42 PM zhanx: ok rue_shop4 question
11:43 PM zhanx: solenoid valves, how do i calculate the power they use to stay open
11:43 PM zhanx: 12v 1.5 amp valve for 1 hour
11:44 PM zhanx: so i can relate that to battery power
11:44 PM zhanx: or katsmeow is she would like to help explain it
11:45 PM rue_shop4: you can cheat
11:45 PM katsmeow: sure, don;t use selenoid valves for an hr, use motorised ball valves
11:45 PM rue_shop4: give them a spike to open, and lower to hold
11:45 PM rue_shop4: work out the holding current, it'll be way lower, you have to test the actual valve
11:45 PM zhanx: kat aren't those pricy?
11:45 PM rue_shop4: some hospital equip I saw pulled an interesting trick
11:45 PM zhanx: k, rue so its a test game?
11:46 PM katsmeow: rated power (12v@1.5a) for 2sec, then reduce to maybe 8v or 6v
11:46 PM katsmeow: not on ebay
11:46 PM rue_shop4: they have a resistor off the supply, that can feed the holding current, but put a capacitor on it to provide the activation spike
11:46 PM rue_shop4: when you turn it on, the capacitor discharges into the solinoid to open it, then it bleeds off to whatever the resistor provides
11:46 PM katsmeow: rue, that's exactly how i operated my lites with relays down here
11:47 PM rue_shop4: it can, of course, be all pwm'd to make that efficient
11:47 PM katsmeow: but xhanx it talking 1.5 AMPS
11:47 PM rue_shop4: zhanx, 12v coils?
11:47 PM zhanx: i gave 1.5 amps as a ballpark
11:47 PM rue_shop4: prolly lower
11:47 PM zhanx: 12v i assumed as that is all i can find
11:47 PM rue_shop4: ~4w - 8w
11:47 PM rue_shop4: 12w is insane
11:48 PM katsmeow: 5w may overheat in an hour
11:48 PM zhanx: i need a cheap one to cover the 21 zones i have
11:49 PM katsmeow: china is now calling THIS motorised : https://www.ebay.com/itm/Piping-System-1-4-Brass-Ball-Valve-Pipe-Ball-Valve-Motorized-Ball-Valve-8mm/253764569361
11:50 PM zhanx: lol that is not motorized
11:50 PM katsmeow: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1312.R-1.TR0.TRC0.A0.H0.TRS1&_nkw=motorised+ball+valve+12v&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_osacat=0&_odkw=motorised+ball+valve+12v&LH_TitleDesc=0
11:51 PM zhanx: still 20 a piece
11:51 PM katsmeow: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=motorised+ball+valve+24v&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_osacat=0&_odkw=motorised+ball+valve+12v&LH_TitleDesc=0
11:51 PM katsmeow: thoise are big-bore valves, you may not need that much?
11:52 PM zhanx: i only need 1/2 npt at max
11:52 PM katsmeow: 1/2 npt can push 100's gallons an hr, that's a lot of greenhouse
11:53 PM zhanx: my end supply lines are 1/4" id with tips to regulate the flow
11:54 PM katsmeow: what i was going to do with a roof nursery garden : stepper with 12" arm, garden hose at endof arm, stepper rotates to put hose over different funnels, funnels drain to different zones
11:54 PM zhanx: max run after the valve is 8" long plus runouts to plants up to 2 feet from the main line
11:54 PM zhanx: er 8'
11:55 PM katsmeow: if done right, you don;t even need swivel connector on the hose
11:55 PM zhanx: i have till the spring to get the water control stuff
11:57 PM * katsmeow wonders if zhanx say what she said
11:57 PM katsmeow: saw
11:58 PM zhanx: i saw it, but my garden is 100x100
11:58 PM zhanx: i think i need to draw that out
