12:08 AM rue_: lathe
12:12 AM rue_: nail, done
07:11 AM Tom_L: nails are too soft for this
07:11 AM Tom_L: i did consider an old drill
09:00 PM katsmeow: 30 minutes
09:45 PM Tom_L: 31 minutes
09:46 PM Tom_L: damn, just a minute late
09:46 PM Tom_L: riser cut and almost installed
09:46 PM Tom_L: then i'll have to tram the mill all over again
09:46 PM Tom_L: that's what takes the time
09:53 PM furrywolf: I've been tempted to get one of those bridges with a dial indicator on either end, for easy tramming
10:34 PM Tom_L: link?
10:35 PM furrywolf: http://www.shars.com/pro-tram-system-1-2-shank-with-0-25-001-indicator
10:36 PM furrywolf: there's lots of similar products
10:36 PM Tom_L: i see what you mean
10:37 PM Tom_L: yeah i wouldn't get one, i'd sooner make one and use regular indicators i can use other places
10:38 PM rue_: arg, debain is going out of date with itself too fast
10:39 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Assembly/Final/Z-Riser_blocks.jpg
10:39 PM Tom_L: i think it will work out better overall
10:39 PM rue_: ah
10:40 PM Tom_L: i can still take them out if i need to
10:40 PM rue_: yup
10:41 PM Tom_L: don't think it will affect the performance much
10:42 PM furrywolf: I put a bunch of those on my subaru. :P
10:42 PM furrywolf: (2x2" box tube)
10:45 PM furrywolf: I'm making up toolbox labels... I've put down everything I can think of, and I bet I'm forgetting stuff. bleh.
10:46 PM Tom_L: i've pretty well memorized where everything i have is
10:47 PM Tom_L: now that the kids are older they've been instructed to replace it exactly where it was or i'll lock the drawers and keep the key in my pocket
10:47 PM furrywolf: I'm trying to re-organize everything, and split it up so different boxes have different functions... a sockets/wrenches box, screwdrivers/drill bits/abrasives/punches/etc box, and an electrical/diagnostics/etc box...
10:47 PM furrywolf: just wait until they're old enough to pick locks. :)
10:47 PM Tom_L: i've got a lock kit
10:48 PM Tom_L: titan
10:49 PM furrywolf: that could be a lot of things. heh.
10:49 PM furrywolf: I have a basic lockpick kit, with minimal ability to use it. I don't have a lockout tool kit yet. should pick one up.
10:56 PM furrywolf: http://fw.bushytails.net/tmp/labels01.png what did I forget?
10:56 PM furrywolf: I can, of course, print more out later.
10:57 PM furrywolf: I'll probably also make a set of a lot more detailed ones for diagnostic tools.
10:57 PM rue_: you got a drawr with a bicycle!?
10:58 PM rue_: that would be last resort if you cant find the car with the rest of the tools, right?
10:58 PM furrywolf: Yes, and I can ride it around the room while writing a letter to the queen
10:58 PM rue_: where is the BEER one?
10:58 PM * furrywolf doesn't drink
10:59 PM rue_: solder?
10:59 PM rue_: oh soldering...
10:59 PM rue_: punches?
10:59 PM rue_: the list might be deeper than my available ram
11:00 PM * furrywolf suspects this is the case
11:00 PM rue_: files, but no directories
11:01 PM furrywolf: I made some prototypes before using regular paper, but they got slimed instantly. then I tried clearcoating regular paper, but it made the paper turned clear. my last test was using glossy photo paper and then clearcoating, which came out nice and shiny. they're stuck to 1" wide magnetic tape, so I can move them around.
11:01 PM rue_: power tools are part of a seperate thing?
11:01 PM furrywolf: yes, they got on shelves
11:01 PM furrywolf: go
11:01 PM furrywolf: only the best for my toolbox! Dollar store photo paper. :)
11:01 PM rue_: probes would go under meters?
11:02 PM rue_: knife?
11:02 PM rue_: strippers?
11:03 PM furrywolf: Saws and Knives is on there
11:03 PM furrywolf: strippers would go under electrical
11:03 PM furrywolf: I'll probably end up printing out a lot more, and not using many of these.
11:03 PM rue_: screws,
11:04 PM rue_: strippers...
11:04 PM rue_: energy bar?
11:04 PM furrywolf: ... it contains neither food, fasteners, nor exotic dancers.
11:04 PM rue_: rags?
11:05 PM furrywolf: ... do you have rags in your toolbox?
11:05 PM furrywolf: I have two rolls of paper towels stuck to the side of the box with magnetic towel roll holders.
11:06 PM furrywolf: printing them out now on my epson R1900... the prints sure are pretty, but damn the cost/page sucks.
11:06 PM furrywolf: ebay ink sets are $100...
11:06 PM rue_: usually left over ones
11:06 PM rue_: ouch
11:06 PM rue_: I fix laser pritners
11:06 PM rue_: they are free, come with toner, and usually papaer
11:07 PM rue_: you just have to put up with their issues
11:07 PM rue_: damnit, p$ isn't 64 bit
11:07 PM rue_: P4
11:07 PM furrywolf: my laser doesn't get very black when printing large type, and I don't know about running inkjet photo paper through it.
11:09 PM rue_: I think the cat just realized its raining
11:13 PM furrywolf: printing the labels on a photo printer with high-gloss photo paper makes them really shiny... especially when you then hit them with automotive clearcoat.
11:15 PM furrywolf: http://www.tite-reach.com/ ohh, me want.
11:16 PM Tom_L: chisels
11:16 PM furrywolf: that's on there
11:16 PM furrywolf: also, I already printed them.
11:16 PM Tom_L: straight edges
11:17 PM Tom_L: ie rulers
11:18 PM furrywolf: measuring
11:18 PM furrywolf: anything fancier lives with the machining stuff
11:18 PM Tom_L: taps dies and extractors
11:18 PM furrywolf: all three are on there
11:19 PM Tom_L: it would take me longer to read them than to find what drawer i know stuff is in
11:19 PM rue_: hahahahah, my cat forgot how to operate rain, primarily, not standing out in it.
11:19 PM Tom_L: this is some damn good pie
11:20 PM furrywolf: is your cat a bit on the stupid side? :)
11:20 PM furrywolf: unfortunately, those tite-reach pro ones are expensive even on ebay
11:21 PM rue_: we havn't seen rain in a long time now
11:21 PM Tom_L: is it invisible?
11:22 PM Tom_L: kat was here for a sec
11:22 PM rue_: so then, any machine that wants to browse the internet, has to be a 64 bit machine
11:23 PM Tom_L: how so?
11:23 PM rue_: new browsers, that have all those new securrity requirements, dont come in 32bit
11:23 PM Tom_L: mmm
11:23 PM Tom_L: mine still works
11:23 PM rue_: so, I cant use a tripple core 2.4Ghz P4 for browsing the internet
11:24 PM rue_: your not getting the 'no matching cypher' problem?
11:24 PM Tom_L: not that i'm aware of
11:24 PM Tom_L: i don't brouse a whole lot
11:25 PM Tom_L: i'll be +1 tomorrow
11:25 PM furrywolf: I think browsers are still available in 32-bit, and I think P4s since 2004 have been 64-bit...
11:25 PM Tom_L: doesn't it kinda depend on the OS?
11:25 PM furrywolf: (prescott and newer)
11:27 PM * furrywolf has never seen a triple-core p4, though
11:27 PM rue_: maybe it was a dual and I'm mixed up
11:28 PM rue_: anyhow, grrr
11:28 PM furrywolf: did they even make dual-core p4s? :)
11:29 PM rue_: I know the machine out in the shop has more than 1 core
11:29 PM Tom_L: P4 are single core
11:29 PM rue_: I was running two brute-force programs for the encoders that were each tieing up a core 100%
11:29 PM rue_: then wtf is that machine?
11:29 PM furrywolf: they made single-core ones with hyperthreading...
11:30 PM Tom_L: The fastest, the 570J and 571, is clocked at 3.8 GHz. Plans to mass-produce a 4 GHz Pentium 4 were cancelled by Intel in favor of dual core processors, although some European retailers claimed to be selling a Pentium 4 580, clocked at 4 GHz.
11:30 PM rue_: its an intel anyhow, so the numbers are just a lie
11:31 PM rue_: I have a 800Mhz amd thats 5x faster than a 2.4G celleron
11:32 PM Tom_L: furrywolf, that indicator setup looks tempting but i'm not gonna spend a hundred bux on it
11:33 PM furrywolf: install cpu-z and see what your cpu actually is?
11:33 PM furrywolf: Tom_L: yeah, I don't own one yet either.
11:33 PM Tom_L: i could get another indicator and make one
11:33 PM Tom_L: actually i have an old one
11:34 PM furrywolf: this dollar store "premium photo paper" seriously isn't.
11:34 PM furrywolf: good enough for toolbox labels, but the actual photo print I just did looks like crap.
11:38 PM furrywolf: Tom_L: speaking of $100 shiny things, did you look at those extension wrenches I pasted?
11:38 PM Tom_L: no, i've been out in the shop all evening
11:38 PM furrywolf: <furrywolf> http://www.tite-reach.com/ ohh, me want.
11:40 PM Tom_L: gear driven?
11:40 PM Tom_L: looks like it
11:40 PM furrywolf: chain, from what I could find googling
11:40 PM Tom_L: my bud has a drill that does offset holes similar
11:40 PM Tom_L: don't think i have a pic of it
11:41 PM Tom_L: for impossible to drill holes in parts
11:41 PM Tom_L: aircraft use the alot i'm told
11:42 PM furrywolf: I got a set of supposedly aircraft obstruction wrenches at a yard sale last week... they kinda look like timing wrenches, the funky ones for reaching around a distributor, but a full set of sizes and 1/2" drive on the other end.
11:42 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/temp/angledrive.jpg
11:42 PM Tom_L: there's one
11:42 PM Tom_L: bridgeport angle head with one on it
11:43 PM furrywolf: http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/topages/nutwrenchs1.php an 8-piece set of those
11:43 PM furrywolf: (different brand, same shape)
11:44 PM Tom_L: i think that drill was gear driven
11:46 PM furrywolf: either would work. chain is probably simpler over long distances. the extensions are 10" long.
11:46 PM Tom_L: that thing was about 3" or so
11:46 PM Tom_L: maybe 4
11:48 PM Tom_L: those could be thinner
11:49 PM Tom_L: tight reach to me means the head is close to something else too so you need a thin wrench
11:50 PM furrywolf: they sell a special low-profile socket set to go with them
11:50 PM furrywolf: the sockets have a male bump on top that fits into the extension
11:50 PM Tom_L: it's a nice idea though
11:50 PM rue_: aaarggg I just went thru a whole linux install and the hard drive is dieing
11:50 PM furrywolf: start copying
11:51 PM rue_: I LITERALLY *just* installed it
11:51 PM rue_: I should have known better, its a deathstar
11:51 PM Tom_L: but you didn't test the drive first
11:52 PM Tom_L: what linux version?
11:52 PM furrywolf: start copying the drive somewhere else
11:55 PM rue_: no I *just* installed it
11:55 PM rue_: its not got anything other than a base os on it
11:55 PM rue_: I'll try a "Whoops, Dunskie!" drive
11:58 PM Tom_L: i wonder what's in my coolant that's attacking the paint
11:58 PM Tom_L: around the edges where i masked off for the rails, the paint is lifting up in a few places
