12:01 AM zhanx: number of users
12:08 AM zhanx: no low user channel i am in is getting spam
12:08 AM furrywolf: bbl, wolfy bedtime
12:25 AM rue_: make foot stools
12:25 AM rue_: oscillator
12:25 AM rue_: 3d printer
10:18 AM furrywolf: yay, getting klined while you're asleep.
10:55 AM furrywolf: so, the miller contactor kit for my high-frequency box is $542. It consists of a $37 albright contactor, a bridge rectifier, a varistor, and a metal cover.
10:55 AM * furrywolf sees a cheaper option
11:26 AM furrywolf: for $505 savings, I'll more than happily bend my own cover.
07:51 PM rue_shop3: furrywolf, cool
09:15 PM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
10:07 PM rue_: furrywolf, I was thinking today
10:07 PM furrywolf: that's unusual?
10:07 PM rue_: if there were mutiple transition sequences that lead to the same digit, but did it in different ways, then the wheel could be split into 'groups'
10:08 PM rue_: where a transition wouldn't tell you where you were, untill you knew what group you were in
10:08 PM rue_: as soon as you knew what group you were in, you would be good
10:09 PM furrywolf: that's much like my suggestion of combining a low-res grey code with a high-res quadrature track.
10:09 PM rue_: kinda like 12341324 but more complex
10:10 PM rue_: my origional idea was a crude absolute with an incremental
10:10 PM rue_: thats kinda what got me thinking about using transitions in the first place
10:10 PM furrywolf: I was sorting tools today... I found I have, like, 40 craftsman teardrop-head ratchets.
10:11 PM rue_: heh
10:11 PM furrywolf: none of which I use, because they fucking suck.
10:12 PM rue_: strike that off the pickup list
10:12 PM rue_: there are trees falling off the leaves, I recon there may not be much more summer left to finish my 12' mecha
10:13 PM rue_: need to fix my chainsaw too
10:14 PM furrywolf: I just fixed one of mine... the electric one. the gas one is waiting for the local saw shop to sharpen the chain.
10:15 PM Tom_L: sharpen yer own
10:15 PM Tom_L: i stay outta trees anymore
10:15 PM furrywolf: too much work
10:16 PM Tom_L: i got a grinder
10:16 PM furrywolf: I actually have a professional saw sharpener...
10:16 PM Tom_L: same
10:17 PM furrywolf: I mean, not a harbor freight toy... a big cast iron one with a belt drive grinding wheel. heh.
10:17 PM rue_: the starter dogs are siezed, it wont snag to start
10:18 PM Tom_L: soak it overnite in something
10:19 PM furrywolf: and know what I do, despite having this thing taking up about 2 ft3 of space? take them to the local saw shop. :)
10:20 PM Tom_L: i've got one for in the tree, one for the stump and a pole saw
10:20 PM rue_: I didn't hey dont knwo hwo to fix jack ****
10:20 PM rue_: did, they dont know how..
10:20 PM Tom_L: and still don't
10:20 PM rue_: they gave me a brand new chainsaw that they sold back in parts
10:20 PM rue_: with the same problem
10:20 PM rue_: anyhow, I just dont feel like sitting down and taking it all apart
10:21 PM Tom_L: 2 stihl and an old mac
10:21 PM rue_: yea its stihl
10:21 PM Tom_L: mac has a 20? 24 " blade
10:22 PM Tom_L: i did one i had to wedge cause it wouldn't go halfway thru the base
10:22 PM rue_: https://www.nutsvolts.com/uploads/wygwam/NV_1103_Marston_FIGURE10.jpg
10:22 PM furrywolf: hrmm, I actually can't find a picture of a similar saw sharpener. all of them are lighter-duty, except for huge manfuacturing-sized ones.
10:22 PM Tom_L: i'm not sure what mine is, i don't use it alot
10:23 PM furrywolf: I have several chainsaws. heh.
10:23 PM rue_: https://www.nutsvolts.com/uploads/wygwam/NV_1103_Marston_FIGURE12.jpg
10:24 PM furrywolf: I have a 14" poulan, two stihl 028 supers, one with a 20" bar, one with no bar, two tensen minibrute electric chainsaws with 14" bars, one random 120v electric chainsaw I can't remember the brand of, and two old homelites packed in storage somewhere that I need to dig out and sell... they're old enough to be worth money.
10:26 PM Tom_L: i think my stihl 'tree' saw has a 10 or 12" blade
10:26 PM Tom_L: nice n light for swingin like a monkey
10:26 PM furrywolf: my poulan is pretty light... it had better be for how underpowered it is. heh.
10:26 PM Tom_L: good one hander
10:26 PM furrywolf: I don't do much in trees with how my back is fucked up.
10:26 PM Tom_L: top handle mount for great balance
10:27 PM furrywolf: I have a complete set of climbing gear sitting unused, too. heh.
10:27 PM furrywolf: gaffs, harness, ropes, etc.
10:28 PM Tom_L: https://www.stihlusa.com/products/chain-saws/in-tree-saws/ms201tcm/
10:28 PM Tom_L: alot like that one if not it
10:28 PM furrywolf: yeah, I know what one of those is. don't own one at the moment, though. my stihl 028s are rear-handled felling saws.
10:29 PM Tom_L: my mac is probably older than me
10:29 PM furrywolf: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5QAny7UmypE/U6MqUM-JoyI/AAAAAAAAAMA/z2MEykRVIno/s1600/article-new-thumbnail-ds-photo-getty-article-148-129-87549692_XS.jpg
10:29 PM furrywolf: the homelites I have a pretty old... one even has a large bar, the kind that bows out really wide in the middle.
10:30 PM Tom_L: the mac is all metal
10:30 PM furrywolf: from the blue paint era
10:30 PM Tom_L: mccullough
10:30 PM Tom_L: mcculloch
10:31 PM furrywolf: http://thumbs.ebaystatic.com/d/l800/pict/372365680104_1.jpg I have two like that... a little one like in that picture, and a big one.
10:31 PM Tom_L: used their engines in karts years back too
10:31 PM furrywolf: yeah, I had a couple mccullochs... sold them a while ago.
10:34 PM furrywolf: the tensen minibrutes are really cute... 12V electric chainsaw. 20ft jumper-cable-sized leads to clip it to your car battery. great for carrying with you on rural roads if you get stuck behind a tree, as it stores indefinitely due to not needing gas.
10:35 PM furrywolf: https://www.picclickimg.com/d/l400/pict/253376261795_/Minibrute-12V-Volt-Battery-Chainsaw-Model-B2-Tensen.jpg
10:36 PM rue_shop4: halarious
10:36 PM rue_shop4: for off roading I take it
10:36 PM furrywolf: https://images.offerup.com/K31rKLQZbHkMv-W2kg-4v_R-Hn4=/600x450/5f3c/5f3cd4f75e3743fda28d0b4940dd5816.jpg
10:37 PM furrywolf: or whenever else you want to keep a chainsaw with your vehicle
10:37 PM furrywolf: I keep one because I deliver on rural roads, and during winter downed trees are a thing.
10:37 PM Tom_L: wield it around at an angry bystander?
10:37 PM furrywolf: as long as they dont't run more than 20ft from the front of your vehicle, sure. :)
10:38 PM furrywolf: it's a proper all-metal saw, not a toy like most electric saws.
10:38 PM furrywolf: only plastic is the oiler line and wire insulation. :)
10:39 PM furrywolf: I've heard of people using them from quads and lawn tractors, too.
10:41 PM furrywolf: they're really nice saws... they're more powerful than a normal electric chainsaw, but less powerful than a gas one. they're really light, silent (the only noise is the chain on the bar - if you run it without the chain you just get a slight whir), clean,...
10:42 PM furrywolf: as a related note, I've managed to break every other electric chainsaw I've ever used. :)
10:42 PM furrywolf: due to shit construction - plastic gears, and light-duty motors.
10:49 PM furrywolf: hrmm, I wonder how one would work if I paralleled a few of my 18v dewalt batteries, and made it into a cordless saw? :)
10:52 PM rue_shop4: I have one thats 120V, and its scarry
10:53 PM rue_shop4: no brake, it coasts to a stop
10:53 PM rue_shop4: not many other safety features
10:54 PM rue_shop4: dont know if I should put an lcd on the freq gen I'm building
10:54 PM furrywolf: I've never seen an electric saw with a brake.
10:54 PM rue_shop4: yea, but do the dc ones shunt-stop?
10:55 PM furrywolf: no
11:00 PM rue_shop4: Tom_L, dull mill bits squeek?
11:01 PM rue_shop4: an ammeter would prolly be handy
11:03 PM rue_shop4: Tom_L, you can go to the corner store and buy a 5 gal pail of cutting fluid cant you?
11:07 PM Tom_L: you can start a fire with dull mill bits
11:07 PM Tom_L: yes
11:07 PM Tom_L: rustlick water soluable
11:07 PM Tom_L: 4 oz per gal
11:07 PM Tom_L: approx
11:14 PM rue_shop4: crap, tabs broke during a cut
11:16 PM Tom_L: https://itwprofessionalbrands.com/litart/tech_647.pdf
11:16 PM Tom_L: that's what i use
11:18 PM rue_shop4: thanks, I dont hink I can get it
11:18 PM Tom_L: i'm lucky enough to get it in gallon sizes
11:18 PM Tom_L: everywhere i looked sell min 5 gal
11:18 PM Tom_L: same with vactra 2 for the slides
11:19 PM Tom_L: but i got half gal of vactra 2 from my bud which will probably outlast me
11:19 PM furrywolf: I got a mystery 5-gallon pail off craigslist. don't remember what it is. it's white. lol
11:20 PM Tom_L: it's all quite similar but we've used this around here for a while
11:22 PM rue_shop4: crap, the sacrificial let go again
11:22 PM Tom_L: i catch what i can and try to squeese a little from the chips and recycle it but i've probably used around 3 gal since i finished the mill
11:22 PM Tom_L: rue_shop4 stop making them so thin
11:23 PM Tom_L: i take chances on one off parts on those quit a bit
11:23 PM Tom_L: probably shouldn't
11:24 PM Tom_L: i figured out the lcnc 'run from line' feature couple days ago
11:25 PM Tom_L: pretty nice
11:27 PM rue_shop4: I have a3/4 peice of wood under the job
11:27 PM rue_shop4: for soem reason, the clamps coem loose sometimes
11:27 PM rue_shop4: thinkits the wood changing sizze
11:29 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Rustlick1.jpg
11:29 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Rustlick2.jpg
11:30 PM Tom_L: i'd guess the local guy re'bottles it
11:30 PM Tom_L: from 55 gal drums
11:30 PM rue_shop4: do you know its taken me a week to find anyone who knows what a compressor switch with an unloading valve is?
11:31 PM Tom_L: no shit?
11:31 PM rue_shop4: LOTS of phonecalls
11:31 PM rue_shop4: if you have to teach someone what something is, they wont be abel to sell you one, even if the chain is supposed to carry it
11:32 PM Tom_L: i hate that about this upcoming generation
11:32 PM rue_shop4: the first 10 places I phoned seemed to indicate there were none in north america
11:32 PM furrywolf: an unloading valve for an electric compressor that vents the line between the head and the check valve, an unloading valve for a gas compressor that vents full compressor flow, or an unloading valve for a gas compressor that holds the intake valves open so it can't compress? :)
11:33 PM rue_shop4: its two parts, a valve on the cutout pressure switch, and a ball check on the tank
11:33 PM rue_shop4: it unlaods the line between the head and the tank
11:33 PM Tom_L: i know what it is.. mine has one
11:33 PM rue_shop4: let the motor get some speed up before its trying to push pressure
11:33 PM furrywolf: the standard electric compressor pressure switch with unloader valve, then. virtually all of them have them.
11:33 PM rue_shop4: nobody here
11:33 PM furrywolf: and... you couldn't find someone who knew what one was? heh
11:34 PM Tom_L: i bet i have a spare switch
11:34 PM Tom_L: unless it's for the well
11:35 PM rue_shop4: furrywolf, it took a week of trying everyone who should sell them
11:35 PM rue_shop4: I found two compressor specialists in vancouver
11:36 PM rue_shop4: well one is vancouver and one is international
11:36 PM Tom_L: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Air-Compressor-Pressure-Switch-Control-Valve-120PSI-4-Port-Unloader-On-Off-Lever/131700565380?epid=595236939&hash=item1ea9f72584%3Ag%3Am9QAAOSwFqJWlv-Y&_sacat=0&_nkw=compressor+switch+with+bleeder+valve&_from=R40&rt=nc&LH_TitleDesc=0
11:36 PM rue_shop4: there was one electrical supplier that had a horrid looking one they wanted $500 for
11:36 PM rue_shop4: I know I can get them off ebay
11:37 PM rue_shop4: as its being sold by the company I work for, I'm supposed to buy from a proper channel
11:37 PM rue_shop4: aka warranty and all
11:37 PM rue_shop4: besides, if you check that listing, 99% odds DOES NOT SHIP TO CANADA
11:37 PM furrywolf: I think even the hardware stores here have them.
11:37 PM Tom_L: how can they warranty something they know nothing about?
11:38 PM rue_shop4: yea, that was my comment about tom being able to go to the corner store and get cutting fluid
11:38 PM Tom_L: well, this town is a little special in that way
11:39 PM furrywolf: bbl, wolfy bedtime
11:39 PM Tom_L: so much mfg going on here they have stuff other places won't have
11:39 PM Tom_L: same here... gnite
11:40 PM Tom_L: you would do well here :)
11:40 PM Tom_L: only problem is you would never have a shop big enough
11:41 PM furrywolf: right now I don't have a shop at all!
11:41 PM Tom_L: mine is a small corner of the garage
11:42 PM rue_shop4: oooh, I just got into playing
11:42 PM rue_shop4: now I have to go to bed
11:43 PM rue_shop4: maybe I just dont, what if I just dont
11:43 PM rue_shop4: what about if I just say up the whole god damned night and do whatever the hell I want
11:43 PM furrywolf: no garage.
11:43 PM furrywolf: bbl, bedtime
