01:05 AM rue_shop3: I'm wondering about using a wackload of neodynium magnets on the new cnc to hold the axies in place
05:29 AM Tom_L: vibration will surely move them
05:29 AM Tom_L: even on hdd they put dimples on the magnet holders to keep them in place
11:26 AM rue_: slept on the deck,
11:26 AM rue_: someone on the street apparently has a dog that barks almost continiously, all night
08:58 PM zhanx: rue my kid is like me
08:58 PM zhanx: breaks things
09:34 PM rue_shop3: so, it'll be a while before you printing again?
09:35 PM zhanx: oh no
09:35 PM zhanx: off work tomorrow
09:35 PM zhanx: trying to find a home to put the printer so i can trust it
09:36 PM rue_shop3: !!!! furrywolf INKSCAPE has a single track generator!?!?!?!?!
09:38 PM rue_shop3: oh god damn cyphers again
09:39 PM rue_shop3: https://github.com/Hyvok/Inkscape-rotary-encoder-disk-generator
09:39 PM rue_shop3: damnit, I need an online web browser
09:43 PM rue_shop3: hahah cross browser test site, eat that sypherblock
09:51 PM furrywolf: looks like it creates most of the types mine does.
09:53 PM Tom_L: rue_shop3, what part was it that i made the fixture you printed? A what?
09:53 PM Tom_L: i wanted to look at the code and i forgot what part it was
09:56 PM rue_shop3: not het masks tho
09:56 PM rue_shop3: the jig you made tom?
09:56 PM rue_shop3: or one of the parts?
09:59 PM rue_shop3: the part you did was A9, the jig was for A12
10:01 PM rue_shop3: furrywolf, erm, are there always 2^n counts in grey?
10:02 PM rue_shop3: I'm sure there are
10:02 PM rue_shop3: can do more than 2 bits in my head
10:03 PM rue_shop3: for whats its worth, I could probably also use a vernier
10:03 PM rue_shop3: sigh
10:31 PM Tom_L: bah, i can't find what i'm looking for..
10:34 PM rue_shop3: still cant find what your looking for?
10:34 PM rue_shop3: ...
10:34 PM rue_shop3: still havn't found what your looking for?
10:34 PM Tom_L: no but i remember what i used it on now
10:35 PM rue_shop3: oh!
10:35 PM rue_shop3: OH!
10:35 PM rue_shop3: there are two lawnmower engines in the scrap metal pile
10:35 PM rue_shop3: exactly 4 springs
10:35 PM Tom_L: maybe too light
10:35 PM Tom_L: worth a try i guess
10:36 PM zhanx: he can harden them also
10:38 PM rue_shop3: ...cant remember what a valve tool looks like...
10:38 PM Tom_L: a fork
10:38 PM furrywolf: on a lawnmower, it looks like a pair of pliers.
10:39 PM zhanx: two arms with a center
10:39 PM furrywolf: because lawnmower springs are not particularly beefy, so just about anything you can use to press the spring down while you pop out the retainer will work.
10:39 PM zhanx: funny thing is rue all those are right
10:40 PM zhanx: its only 20-25 psi on the spring a screw driver and my hands for a lawnmore
10:41 PM furrywolf: I've never used a proper valve spring compressor (and I do own a coupler!) on a lawnmower-sized engine.
10:41 PM furrywolf: couple
10:49 PM rue_shop3: gee thats alot of work for 2 springs
10:49 PM rue_shop3: have to pop off the head cause the valves lock the spring in
10:50 PM rue_shop3: yea, turns out needlenose are doing ok
10:50 PM Tom_L: shove a screwdriver in the exhaust to hold the valves up
10:50 PM rue_shop3: thought I had a tool
10:50 PM furrywolf: you can remove the springs without removing the head, assuming this is a honda-style overhead valve engine. if it's a briggs, nothing is easy on those.
10:50 PM rue_shop3: one done, 1 to go, and then I have to drain them and then I can finally take them to scrap tommorow
10:51 PM rue_shop3: I have an overhead one, but I'm not usre where the springs are,
10:51 PM rue_shop3: I have to drain the other two anyhow
10:51 PM rue_shop3: I threw the head in the smelting bin
10:51 PM furrywolf: same place they always are... around the valve stems. lol
11:02 PM rue_shop3: PLASTIC OIL PLUG i am SO keeping THAT
11:02 PM rue_shop3: back to things that are siezed, where is my impact...
11:10 PM rue_shop3: hmm second engine had substancially smaller springs
11:10 PM rue_shop3: maybe I should see what the ohv had
11:14 PM rue_shop3: anyhow think up a base
11:17 PM rue_shop3: hahaha I had 4 isolation springs for a compressor that I forgot about, their perfect
11:33 PM rue_shop3: hmmm what would be perfect is a brushless variable speed motor
11:34 PM rue_shop3: pretty sure, if I dont go variable speed tho, I wont get it oscillating right
11:35 PM rue_shop4: can I put a PLL on a low speed motor to generate high speeds?
11:36 PM rue_shop3: no
11:43 PM rue_shop3: ok, this motor will do
11:44 PM rue_shop3: brushed dc car fan motor
11:44 PM rue_shop3: so, I need bearings and a counterweight
11:45 PM rue_shop3: if I can do anything, I should be able to pull of a 12V dc speed controller
11:47 PM rue_shop3: lots of 608 bearings, no pillow blocks...
11:49 PM rue_shop3: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:400344
11:49 PM rue_shop3: hmmm
11:50 PM rue_shop3: wait, thats not what I want tho
11:50 PM rue_shop3: what I want is a tube the size of the motor, that has 'caps' in it that take the bearings
11:50 PM rue_shop3: and shroud the counterwights
11:51 PM rue_shop3: 75mm motor
11:51 PM furrywolf: bbl, wolfy bedtime
11:51 PM rue_shop3: which like exactly matches the id of 3" pvc pipe
11:51 PM rue_shop3: gnight
11:52 PM rue_shop3: omg thats a perfect fit
11:55 PM rue_shop3: ok, I have a 3" pipe and a 608 bearing, I need an adapter
11:56 PM rue_shop3: hmm threaded or unthreaded
11:56 PM rue_shop3: unthreaded
11:58 PM rue_shop3: ok, counterweight
11:58 PM rue_shop3: tom, you alive?
11:59 PM rue_shop3: hmm heavy metal scrap, hmmm
