12:01 AM zhanx: 1/4" 1/2"
12:21 AM rue_mohr: enough to get it over the frame rail
12:22 AM zhanx: k
12:22 AM rue_mohr: you know that putty epoxy?
12:22 AM zhanx: yep
12:22 AM zhanx: notice its almost done
12:22 AM rue_mohr: you can prolly use that to make cups to hold the screws
12:22 AM zhanx: k
12:22 AM rue_mohr: yes, its just about down to wiring
12:23 AM zhanx: wiring is done, minus limits
12:23 AM zhanx: i found 8 of them today
12:23 AM rue_mohr: you dont hve to worry about the pulldown springs, it'll work fine without them
12:23 AM rue_mohr: ok
12:23 AM rue_mohr: sweet
12:23 AM rue_mohr: do you have a fan on the heatsink for the extruder?
12:23 AM zhanx: yep
12:23 AM rue_mohr: just about anything will do
12:23 AM zhanx: and it works too, shocked me
12:23 AM rue_mohr: ok, hey send me a new pic then eh?
12:24 AM zhanx: https://imgur.com/a/QzC5WUe
12:24 AM zhanx: as it sits right now
12:24 AM rue_mohr: gothtat
12:24 AM rue_mohr: oh ok
12:24 AM rue_mohr: yea, tieing all the wire to it is a task
12:24 AM zhanx: I did the wiring remember? I ran it for an hour to test it
12:24 AM rue_mohr: try to be mindfull the X ends dont bind ont eh Z rods
12:25 AM zhanx: k
12:25 AM rue_mohr: right, but attaching it to the printer in a way that works is some work
12:25 AM zhanx: i figured float it
12:25 AM rue_mohr: snagging binding pulling
12:26 AM zhanx: zip tie a ziptie to the frame and float the wires in that for now
12:26 AM rue_mohr: the bottom of the Z screws is floating right?
12:26 AM zhanx: yes
12:26 AM rue_mohr: good
12:26 AM zhanx: why is that?
12:26 AM rue_mohr: people like to try to constrain them and it just ads problems
12:27 AM rue_mohr: why are there little dots on the glass?
12:27 AM zhanx: glue from the scanner bed
12:27 AM rue_mohr: oh painters tape is someting you will want too
12:27 AM rue_mohr: oh
12:27 AM rue_mohr: I suggest green, not blue
12:27 AM zhanx: k
12:28 AM rue_mohr: the blue can be overly adhesive and not come off the print
12:28 AM rue_mohr: if the green dosn't have enough stick, use a FAST and LIGHT pass of alcohol on the tape
12:28 AM zhanx: what about hair spray?
12:28 AM rue_mohr: just file that away for now
12:28 AM rue_mohr: no
12:29 AM rue_mohr: not unless its a heated bed
12:29 AM zhanx: k
12:29 AM rue_mohr: you need things to stick pretty good for an unheated bed or it warps
12:29 AM zhanx: should i get a heated bed? I can
12:29 AM rue_mohr: (the print)
12:30 AM rue_mohr: I suggest getting a bed heater, but a) CAREFULL wiring, heated beds are THE cause for printers catching fire. b) cant help ya make it work, none of mine have yet
12:30 AM zhanx: k
12:31 AM rue_mohr: do you have any plastic yet?
12:31 AM zhanx: i do
12:31 AM rue_mohr: pla right?
12:31 AM zhanx: 1 spool of pla
12:31 AM rue_mohr: abs needs a heated bed...
12:31 AM rue_mohr: cool
12:31 AM zhanx: black as it was cheapest
12:31 AM rue_mohr: be aware that translucent pla is brittle,
12:31 AM rue_mohr: the more translucent, the more brittle
12:31 AM zhanx: ok did not know that
12:32 AM rue_mohr: to the point where within an hour of the printer being stopped, the filament will break off the print head
12:32 AM rue_mohr: just sitting there
12:32 AM zhanx: oh wow
12:32 AM rue_mohr: yea, and Grrrr
12:33 AM rue_mohr: ok, hmm
12:33 AM rue_mohr: so, with marlin/pronterface you can issue movement commands manually
12:34 AM rue_mohr: G00 F5000 X120 Y60
12:34 AM zhanx: normal gcode
12:34 AM rue_mohr: its been worth it to keep note of the positions that the screw jacks are at, for releveling
12:35 AM rue_mohr: the overall height isn't an issue, you want the plate preleveled within about 1/3mm
12:35 AM rue_mohr: (paper/eye)
12:35 AM zhanx: k
12:35 AM rue_mohr: the offset that the print starts from seems to come from a magic hat, so the final hight and a bit of the leveling need to be done with test prints
12:36 AM rue_mohr: the Z switch is usually attached to the Z rail
12:36 AM zhanx: i need pics of yours
12:40 AM rue_mohr: those clamps dont hold the Z rail that well, if the Z rail slides up and down in the clamps, your overall zero wanders
12:40 AM rue_mohr: and those bits holding that Z rail aren't awesome
12:40 AM zhanx: they are not
12:40 AM rue_mohr: no suggested improvement yet
12:40 AM rue_mohr: maybe a dab of glue under some of the Z rail clamps...
12:40 AM rue_mohr: ~
12:40 AM rue_mohr: you wana pic of my z sensor?
12:40 AM zhanx: yes
12:40 AM rue_mohr: did they give you switch holders?
12:40 AM rue_mohr: (2d printe)
12:40 AM zhanx: yes but they dont fit mine, i will mod them
12:40 AM rue_mohr: oh they use those stupid ebay switches on baords
12:40 AM rue_mohr: yea, drill as req'd
12:40 AM rue_mohr: I have a fix for a normal switch you can print
12:40 AM zhanx: k
12:40 AM rue_mohr: (your making a list, right?)
12:40 AM zhanx: its a long list
12:41 AM rue_mohr: wow, its liek every existing photo misses the Z switch
12:42 AM zhanx: hence why i asked
12:42 AM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/reprap3/p1090784.jpg
12:42 AM rue_mohr: I had to design that one
12:42 AM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/reprap3/p1090785.jpg
12:42 AM rue_mohr: no, rue
12:42 AM rue_mohr: but its the same, just on the Z rail
12:43 AM rue_mohr: those are the ones your going to give him
12:43 AM rue_mohr: well yea, yea, cuase they fit the normal switches
12:43 AM zhanx: ok that is what i needed
12:43 AM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/reprap3/p1090804.jpg
12:44 AM rue_mohr: just half off stage right
12:45 AM zhanx: ok i can wire them up tomorrow i hope
12:47 AM zhanx: limits and hotend mounting as the real last pieces i need to do
12:47 AM rue_mohr: zero should put the nozzel on the front left corner of the bed
12:48 AM zhanx: ok i was wrong on that
12:53 AM rue_mohr: so, bed back, carriage left
12:59 AM zhanx: ph got 2 more printers today ink jets
01:00 AM rue_mohr: heh
01:01 AM rue_mohr: today we tried toner as powdercoat paint
01:01 AM rue_mohr: really crudely
01:01 AM rue_mohr: 'plausable'
01:01 AM zhanx: that is a new one
01:02 AM zhanx: tomorrow i get to rescreen the whole work room
01:03 AM rue_mohr: rescreen?
01:03 AM rue_mohr: monitors or securrity check?
01:03 AM zhanx: window screens were bad when we moved in
01:03 AM rue_mohr: oh
01:03 AM rue_mohr: now there's nothing left
01:03 AM zhanx: by winter, i need a heat method
01:03 AM zhanx: but its 10x20
01:04 AM rue_mohr: outdoor boiler?
01:04 AM zhanx: might do a propane one
01:04 AM rue_mohr: I need to sleep
01:05 AM rue_mohr: did i tell you I want to try using 8x8 red led arrays as OTP roms?
01:05 AM zhanx: no
01:05 AM rue_mohr: I think 500mA will blow the bond wire
01:06 AM rue_mohr: cause an eeprom is kinda large
01:06 AM rue_mohr: that said, the practicallity stops at a 5x7 array
01:07 AM zhanx: and you got a robot to make
01:07 AM rue_mohr: lots of them
01:08 AM zhanx: same here soon
01:08 AM rue_mohr: I got a peice of pipe to the bandsaw to cut the end off
01:08 AM rue_mohr: just need time to do it
01:08 AM zhanx: i was amazed i got time to cut the bed to size today
01:08 AM rue_mohr: :)
01:09 AM rue_mohr: and it cut nice too
01:09 AM zhanx: table saw
01:09 AM rue_mohr: I managed a peice of mirror for the 2nd machine
01:09 AM zhanx: that scanner glass is flat
01:09 AM rue_mohr: its thick, kinda heavy, but its mirror and its flat
01:09 AM rue_mohr: the window glass I'd used was WAY OUT, dont know how I managed with it so far
01:10 AM rue_mohr: you can tell when you testing the level
01:10 AM zhanx: ok
01:10 AM rue_mohr: the 3 points are good, but nothing else is
01:10 AM zhanx: 4 points i thing i would pull out hair on
01:10 AM rue_mohr: I _was_
01:11 AM rue_mohr: I got all the way to "screw this!"
01:11 AM zhanx: which i don't want to do
01:11 AM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/reprap/p1040279.jpg
01:12 AM rue_mohr: apparently I did v1 with silicone
01:12 AM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/reprap/p1040280.jpg
01:12 AM rue_mohr: oh there is with 4 posts
01:12 AM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/reprap/p1040426.jpg
01:13 AM rue_mohr: my origional nozzel was quartz
01:14 AM rue_mohr: wow, I'v changed a LOT of things on that printer
01:14 AM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/reprap/p1040475.jpg because the tip needs a bit of a sled, the first working nozzel just used quarts for the thermal isolation
01:15 AM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/reprap/p1040806.jpg its still using the optical Z zero
08:29 PM zhanx: took a break from the 3d printer, I made a stir plate for my homebrew
