03:27 PM katsmeow: Tom, i think the best way to build the 6" arms is with 1x1 steel angle
03:30 PM katsmeow: the best parts of that plan is strength where it must be cut down, and the only other machining needed is 1/8 holes drilled in just the right places
03:30 PM katsmeow: i can tack spacers between, ad/or weld bridges between the pieces
03:30 PM katsmeow: down side is each arm will be two pieces of angle, and still need 8 arms
03:30 PM katsmeow: plus the short arms
03:33 PM * katsmeow wants to try the center holes at 2.5" from one end, not 2"
03:34 PM katsmeow: else, it gets complicated, making one at 2" and the otehr half at 3"
03:34 PM katsmeow: making them identical at 2.5" might just work
03:35 PM katsmeow: ok then
08:47 PM katsmeow: looks like best use of materials on hand = the long arms being 5.75 long, vs 6
08:48 PM katsmeow: that shelf upright stuff rue used to make his table, i can rip into two L sections, which work quite well enough
08:49 PM katsmeow: the screw holes in it are 12" apart, which is why the shortening of the arms to 5.75 each
08:50 PM katsmeow: should still work fine as proof of concept
08:55 PM katsmeow: .
08:56 PM katsmeow: <coff>
09:02 PM katsmeow is now known as ^kat^-afk
10:02 PM rue_bed: hey kat
10:02 PM rue_bed: Tom_L, how would you do thin sheet metal in the cnc, like 1mm
10:02 PM rue_bed: cause it dons't hold down well
10:02 PM rue_bed: zhanx, you 3' under yet?
10:04 PM zhanx: nope
10:04 PM zhanx: one about 6" of snow so far
10:14 PM ^kat^-afk is now known as ^kat^
10:14 PM ^kat^: rue : vacuum table
10:15 PM ^kat^: or, clamp down EVERY sq cm you aren't going to mill
10:16 PM ^kat^: 1mm = .039 , should be easy if it's stiff material, you can get pcb FR4 down to .015, .008, and they mill and drill that
10:18 PM * ^kat^ looks at rue
10:18 PM * ^kat^ looks behind rue
10:19 PM * ^kat^ looks under rue
10:19 PM * ^kat^ looks to one side of rue
10:22 PM ^kat^: wrist watch : https://www.ebay.com/itm/142507931263
10:44 PM * ^kat^ ponders a pointer on the top of the pcb to show where the drill bit is going to come thru from underneath
10:58 PM * ^kat^ wonders if anyone has made fingernail press-on stickers with working QR codes
10:58 PM Tom_L: hmm, today came and went. not much content there
10:58 PM Tom_L: rue_, double back tape, superglue or suction
10:58 PM Tom_L: gnite
10:59 PM rue_shop3: hey
10:59 PM rue_shop3: its a small peice tho,
11:00 PM Tom_L: not enough info then
11:00 PM rue_shop3: about 3"x3"
11:00 PM rue_shop3: I have it screwed at the corners, but it buckles up right now
11:01 PM Tom_L: butt against 2 dowelpins 90 deg and double back tape
11:01 PM Tom_L: 3 pins
11:01 PM rue_shop3: mmm
11:01 PM ^kat^: huh?
11:01 PM Tom_L: tape will hold it down, pins will keep it from sliding
11:02 PM ^kat^: weld it to the table
11:02 PM * ^kat^ has done that at certain times, and then just cut the bead
11:02 PM Tom_L: but it buckles up right now... weld will not help that
11:03 PM ^kat^: weld keeps it from sliding, but yea, won;t hold the center down
11:03 PM Tom_L: sandwich it between sacrificial material
11:06 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Assembly/Final/Table_holes.jpg
11:06 PM Tom_L: that's why those dowelpin holes are there
11:07 PM Tom_L: if i ever need them
11:07 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Assembly/Final/Coolant_Drain2.jpg
11:08 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Assembly/Final/Coolant_Drain1.jpg
11:08 PM Tom_L: all 4 in place
11:08 PM Tom_L: and if necessary one small clamp in the opposite corner
11:09 PM ^kat^: a good carpenter bench has such holes in it too
11:09 PM Tom_L: sure does
11:09 PM Tom_L: peg holes for clamping long pieces on an end vise
11:10 PM Tom_L: or such
11:10 PM * ^kat^ nods
11:10 PM Tom_L: gnite
11:11 PM ^kat^: gnite
11:20 PM * rue_ plays with stm32
11:21 PM ^kat^: he does?
11:22 PM rue_: mmm I have an oled screen to try to attach
11:22 PM rue_: I should do something simpler first
11:22 PM * rue_ interfaces the stm32 with the 12' mecha
11:23 PM rue_: kat, do you have an ideas as to status lights on a 12' mecha
11:23 PM rue_: aka, when its parked
11:24 PM rue_: active, inactive, shutdown, idle
11:24 PM rue_: batttery charged...
11:24 PM rue_: fuel ok
11:24 PM rue_: I dunno
11:24 PM ^kat^: battery charge, hydraulic pressure, radio link, Ai operation, etc
11:24 PM ^kat^: temperatures
11:25 PM ^kat^: self-repair
11:25 PM ^kat^: an olde Hours meter
11:31 PM rue_: I'm thinking of a (or multi) multicolour status lights that you can glance at it when its parked (or not moving) and get a general idea of things
11:31 PM ^kat^: Ground Pressure
11:39 PM ^kat^: ~12 yrs ago i built a trailer, with sides made of .064 steel plate, which i welded to the uprights by clamping tight around a spot i burned thru with the welding rod, and then ran a fast circle, letting it cool before unclamping
11:39 PM ^kat^: checked it after sitting outside all these yrs, it's in great shape
11:55 PM rue_: genuine spot weld
11:55 PM ^kat^: yeas
11:56 PM rue_: thats yet to work for me
11:56 PM rue_: the gap always spoils it
11:56 PM ^kat^: https://www.ebay.com/itm/33M-Slug-Tape-Electric-Circuit-PCB-Board-Tape-Polyimidefilm-Plfilm-Tape-adhesive/142626743439 whaaaaa?
11:56 PM ^kat^: gap? it must be clamped as much as possible, all around the weld area
