09:19 PM Tom_L: the charts they put on the doors are rather accurate
09:20 PM ^kat^: but they have open circuit of only 40v, and my stick welder would never strike an arc on 40v

09:26 PM ^kat^: it's got splatter and flux everywhere
09:27 PM ^kat^: Tom, it's a plasma, it's like the surface of the sun, antyhing that gets into the arc zone is gonna burn

09:28 PM ^kat^: and the sticks have flux that burns to take out the free oxygen and do o ther things
09:28 PM ^kat^: wirefeed with a gas bottle will make very clean welds
09:29 PM ^kat^: wirefeed with flux core will leave a mess to clean up

09:29 PM ^kat^: cleanthe metal till it's shiney, that shold eliminate the soot
09:31 PM ^kat^: i powwer sanded the channel before i welded, but i didn;t de-galvanise the nuts, and didn;t get the rust out of the pits in the metal
