01:40 AM rue_: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:91724
05:28 AM Tom_L: that looks weak
06:21 AM Tom_L: made it past Chicago so it's headed N at least. LH032774038US
08:59 AM rue_: I redesigned it, I need the reference for posting a change to it
03:09 PM Tom_L: oh the spool rack?
03:09 PM Tom_L: at first i thought you meant the fixture
06:42 PM rue_: the spool rack
06:56 PM * Tom_L fires up the cad box
07:06 PM * Tom_L waits for rue_shop3 to produce a print
07:09 PM rue_: ... which one are we waiting for?
07:09 PM rue_: >>
07:09 PM rue_: <<
07:10 PM Tom_L: the softjaws
07:10 PM Tom_L: new file last night
07:11 PM rue_: A12_visejaw_short2.stl ?
07:11 PM rue_: ooh its starting to come back to me
07:12 PM Tom_L: A12_softjaw_short.stl was the last one i posted
07:12 PM rue_: it was the second tho, I put in the 2
07:12 PM rue_: I dont overwrite files, I'v had cache problems
07:13 PM rue_: k, I have to veggitate a minute
07:13 PM Tom_L: just not too long..
07:13 PM rue_: right, no
07:13 PM rue_: i took a B complex, I should start to wake up in about a half hour
07:14 PM rue_: I'm not sure, but I think running all the equip added $100 to the power bill
07:15 PM rue_: I have the kid comming back tommorow
07:16 PM Tom_L: so you'd better be making $100 worth of parts ehh?
07:17 PM rue_: we worked out a shop and machine rate for each spayer
07:17 PM rue_: iirc its based on something like 12c/hr for the machines and I cant rember for shop wear
07:18 PM Tom_L: iirc, spindle time was something like $25/hr back then
07:18 PM Tom_L: but it's kinda foggy for me now
07:18 PM rue_: yea I set it up to cover basic shop costs
07:18 PM Tom_L: there was program time, setup time and spindle time
07:18 PM rue_: it should pay itself and leave me with a bit of the shop expences paid
07:19 PM Tom_L: the trick is to get past the first two and sit on the last one a while
07:20 PM rue_: I design the stuff and he runs it, prettymuch
07:21 PM Tom_L: so what's a can gripper cost?
07:22 PM rue_bed: the whole thing?
07:22 PM rue_bed: $120
07:22 PM rue_bed: more if they want belt hooks and metal triggers
07:22 PM rue_bed: were trying to work it down tho
07:22 PM rue_bed: $80 would be good
07:22 PM Tom_L: nobody else makes em?
07:23 PM rue_bed: nope
07:23 PM rue_bed: who could
07:23 PM Tom_L: anybody that thought of it
07:23 PM rue_bed: the only reason I can for *only* 120 is cause I have all the cnc machines and printers
07:23 PM Tom_L: don't budge the price, just improve the product
07:24 PM rue_bed: if we can
07:24 PM Tom_L: working on it
07:24 PM Tom_L: or cut down time to market
07:24 PM rue_bed: there was a hint the fellow who is supposed to be telling the log sorts about us is reselling them
07:24 PM rue_bed: we dont know
07:25 PM rue_bed: nobody in the industry answers phonecalls or emails
07:25 PM Tom_L: he buys yours and resells them?
07:25 PM rue_bed: the fellow building them has a pretty good cache of parts right now
07:25 PM rue_bed: we aren't sure
07:26 PM rue_bed: it was a hint, nothing for sure
07:26 PM Tom_L: take one out and show the loggers yourself
07:27 PM rue_bed: the local guys know us,
07:27 PM rue_bed: the main contact we have trains log scalers all over BC
07:27 PM Tom_L: there used to be a place here that wound springs
07:27 PM Tom_L: i wonder if they're still there
07:29 PM Tom_L: i used to wind my own
08:33 PM rue_shop3: from?
08:34 PM Tom_L: piano wire
08:34 PM rue_shop3: huh
08:34 PM * rue_shop3 tries to get his other eye open
08:35 PM rue_shop3: ok setting up print
08:36 PM rue_shop3: dunno how much longer this last job is gonna go
08:36 PM Tom_L: what job?
08:36 PM rue_shop3: but I should get the other one going the filament already broke waiting
08:36 PM rue_shop3: the printer parts one I left it with before
08:37 PM rue_shop3: had it running at like 30% speed to NOT SCREW UP
08:38 PM rue_shop3: it seems to say 1.5 hrs
08:41 PM rue_shop3: the file is ready
08:41 PM rue_shop3: I'll see if I can get the other printer on its feet in a min.
08:41 PM rue_shop3: stupid broken filament, grrrr
08:42 PM Tom_L: i could go out and square up some blocks for sotjaws
08:42 PM rue_shop3: mhm, it wont take long to print
08:48 PM rue_shop3: oh, there was winter too, that would have added to the bill
08:49 PM rue_shop3: geez, paying off the mortguage, truck insurance, land tax, it all hits at once
08:49 PM rue_shop3: freaking bill storm
08:50 PM rue_shop3: eyes almost working right again
08:51 PM rue_shop3: starting to think
09:11 PM rue_shop3: printing peice
09:15 PM rue_shop3: if I'd got the PI camera working I could make a time lapse of it printing
09:28 PM rue_shop3: printer screwed up I have to restarrt it
09:28 PM rue_shop3: change of plastic didnt work
09:31 PM rue_shop3: Tom_L, did you make it anyhow, casue =if you did I shoudl avoid the trouble of trying to restart this
09:34 PM rue_shop3: its going, I'll see if it behaves
09:34 PM Tom_shop: i remember why that strap clamp was cut now
09:35 PM Tom_shop: wasn't an accident, it was to hold my vise
09:35 PM Tom_shop: no i'm waiting for you to verify it
09:35 PM rue_shop3: its printing
09:41 PM rue_shop3: it'll be an hour
10:07 PM Tom_shop: i'm pretty impressed with this thing
10:07 PM Tom_shop: squaring up some blocks i got a helluva finish
10:10 PM rue_shop3: :)
10:10 PM Tom_shop: i set my vise up beside the plate too so i can run 2 programs at once
10:11 PM rue_shop3: :)
10:11 PM Tom_shop: just change from a G54 to a G55 in the program where you want it to shift
10:12 PM Tom_shop: set both offsets with the same tool
10:15 PM rue_shop3: the benifits of absolute positioning
10:17 PM Tom_shop: wish i had a bandsaw
10:17 PM Tom_shop: cutting 1/2" plate by hand is for the birds
10:26 PM Tom_L: how's the print coming?
10:27 PM rue_shop3: too well, I accidently left the quality dialed right up
10:27 PM rue_shop3: using lots of plastoc
10:27 PM rue_shop3: 15 mins left
10:27 PM Tom_L: stl too fine?
10:28 PM rue_shop3: not possible
10:28 PM Tom_L: i just had to go out and cut _something_. was a rather shit day
10:29 PM rue_shop3: it'll be spring soon
10:29 PM Tom_L: wasn't the weather, just ppl and things
10:30 PM rue_shop3: simple things that only took 10x more effort than they should have?
10:31 PM Tom_L: drove 45min to find out i couldn't do the job
10:31 PM Tom_L: each way
10:31 PM rue_shop3: yea, I hate driving
10:32 PM Tom_L: i get real sick of it
10:46 PM rue_shop3: we have part!
10:47 PM rue_shop3: according to this, the wrong part moved
10:48 PM rue_shop3: I think because left and right swapped when I have to z flip it
10:48 PM rue_shop3: the slots are ligned up
10:48 PM rue_shop3: so, relative to each other, they are ok
10:49 PM rue_shop3: awesome fit, no heatgun required
10:49 PM rue_shop3: super tight snap fit
10:49 PM rue_shop3: (not too tight)
10:50 PM rue_shop3: ok... so
10:50 PM rue_shop3: you might actually have it
10:50 PM rue_shop3: checking against multiple peices
10:50 PM rue_shop3: cause we hand align this stuff
10:51 PM rue_shop3: our parts actaully varry more than I thoguht
10:53 PM rue_shop3: it agrees with 1/3 of pieces I have, and isn't far off on the others
10:53 PM Tom_L: so go with it?
10:53 PM rue_shop3: Id say yes
10:53 PM Tom_L: k
10:54 PM Tom_L: are you gonna use that one to cut the slots too?
10:54 PM rue_shop3: it looks good,
10:54 PM rue_shop3: the challange is that I'm using my old cnc, and its not gcode
10:54 PM Tom_L: the slots are flush with the top right?
10:54 PM Tom_L: oh
10:54 PM Tom_L: but you just cut straight lines with this
10:55 PM rue_shop3: final project at tech school was going to either be a 4th axis or a gcode interpreter, I did the axis :/
10:55 PM Tom_L: drop down a bit and cut again
10:55 PM rue_shop3: yea
10:55 PM rue_shop3: I used qbasic to write a drop-and-stroke program
10:56 PM Tom_L: should save time this way
10:57 PM Tom_L: technically i would cut a pair of jaws but i'm just gonna do one side
10:58 PM rue_shop3: hmm I can mirror it in the print software
10:58 PM Tom_L: no need to
10:58 PM Tom_L: half will hold it in place if you clamp it with a flat piece on the other half
10:58 PM rue_shop3: oh I thoguht you meant sandwhich style
10:59 PM Tom_L: i did
10:59 PM Tom_L: but it's not necessary on this part
