[21:52:11] <katsmeow> so who is going to sell me a mini- itx/atx with winxp on it?
[21:55:31] <Tom_L> you need one?
[21:55:55] <katsmeow> i wold like to replace sme of Tiggr with newer faster hardware
[21:56:11] <katsmeow> lower power requirements, quieter, smaller, etc
[21:58:21] <Tom_L> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157497&cm_re=asrock_q1900-_-13-157-497-_-Product
[21:58:43] <Tom_L> i think i have one of those
[21:59:03] <Tom_L> on this pc
[21:59:54] <Tom_L> http://www.mini-box.com/s.nl/it.A/id.417/.f?sc=8&category=13
[22:00:00] <Tom_L> with that and a 12v wart
[22:00:54] <Tom_L> the atx version (which i also have one of) has one more slot
[22:01:10] <Tom_L> you can likely fine newer better ones
[22:02:55] <Tom_L> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128876&cm_re=gigabyte_h110m_s2h_GSM-_-13-128-876-_-Product
[22:02:59] <Tom_L> in my main pc now
[22:03:29] <katsmeow> what about the required ram?
[22:03:45] <Tom_L> 16g ram 1 1tb ssd 1 500G ssd
[22:03:57] <Tom_L> actually 4 ssd in it
[22:04:01] <Tom_L> not all used at once
[22:04:17] <Tom_L> ddr4
[22:04:18] <katsmeow> no, i mean does newegg sell ram guaranteed to work with that mobo ?
[22:04:31] <Tom_L> i got mine local
[22:04:38] <Tom_L> i'm sure they do
[22:05:17] <Tom_L> i've used that g.skill ram before
[22:05:36] <Tom_L> not sure you get the same side ad as i do..
[22:06:05] <katsmeow> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128876&cm_re=gigabyte_h110m_s2h_GSM-_-13-128-876-_-Product does not seem to have anything, even no cpu
[22:06:28] <Tom_L> 16g $55
[22:06:47] <Tom_L> you gotta add that on that one yes
[22:07:04] <Tom_L> i got an i5 for mine
[22:07:40] <Tom_L> you may not need that much hp
[22:07:55] <Tom_L> i wanted something decent for cad cam etc
[22:08:46] <Tom_L> i upgrade maybe every 6-8-10 yrs
[22:09:09] <Tom_L> lost track the last upgrade i did before this
[22:10:16] <katsmeow> i have no upgraded in ~15 yrs, right after the bleeding edge of breaking the 137GB barrier, 66Mhz 32bit PCI buss finally happening, 2GB mobo ram, and winxp getting the ntfs upgrade
[22:10:41] <Tom_L> i still use a p100 too :)
[22:11:28] <Tom_L> dual 23" monitors is nice with cad
[22:12:19] <katsmeow> what ddo they mean by: Video : sub-d
[22:13:25] <Tom_L> not sure, it has 2 plugs
[22:13:36] <Tom_L> i'm using an addon video card though
[22:13:41] <Tom_L> so i can get dual monitors
[22:13:48] <Tom_L> elcheapo card
[22:14:15] <Tom_L> it won't support dual on the mb
[22:15:29] * katsmeow nods
[22:16:00] <Tom_L> i didn't research it alot
[22:16:09] <Tom_L> just new i wanted something newer
[22:16:26] <Tom_L> i'm sure it's not the best out there but i don't need that
[22:16:49] * katsmeow nods
[22:17:39] <Tom_L> it boots win 7 in ~ 10sec
[22:18:33] <katsmeow> none of them say how much power they pull, or what OS runs on them,, not even if they are 32bit or 64bit
[22:19:07] <Tom_L> i run win7 32 and 64 on the gigabyte board
[22:19:27] <Tom_L> i can't hear the fan run
[22:19:46] <katsmeow> if only there was a way to interface diy hardware to them
[22:20:05] <katsmeow> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157594 $40
[22:20:58] <Tom_L> when i was looking for the asrock boards one requirement was parport
[22:21:00] <Tom_L> for me
[22:21:09] <Tom_L> i run the mill from one
[22:21:58] <Tom_L> and it ran linuxcnc well
[22:22:17] <Tom_L> good latency numbers for it so i went with it for those reasons
[22:23:07] <katsmeow> i can't buy one if i cannot know what OS runs on it
[22:23:45] <Tom_L> i've got 7 on both those boards i showed you and linux on another
[22:23:51] <katsmeow> i have winxp boot pata drives, cannot egt new installs of anything below win8, afaik, and M$ wants to kill off all OS but win10 asap
[22:24:08] <Tom_L> i know
[22:24:24] <Tom_L> i just downgraded a laptop for somebody back to 8.1
[22:24:41] <Tom_L> their software wouldn't work on it they use for work
[22:24:51] <Tom_L> bed time for em
[22:24:52] <Tom_L> me
[22:25:05] <katsmeow> Vista, on my laptop, is orphaned in a few months, early 2017
[22:25:26] <katsmeow> i alreadsy stoppe all upgrades onit because M$ has been installing phone-home and DRM code
[22:25:31] <Tom_L> i found an oem 8.1 for 60 bux for them
[22:25:48] <Tom_L> i personally run 7
[22:26:07] <Tom_L> one has NT4 on it still
[22:26:15] <katsmeow> i don't have, and acannot get, win7
[22:26:24] <katsmeow> unless you are offering to build systems for me
[22:26:37] <Tom_L> i don't build em but for me
[22:26:51] <katsmeow> if they will boot from a winxp desktop hdd, i got that
[22:27:03] <Tom_L> they should
[22:27:25] <katsmeow> can't buy from newegg or tigerdirect, not on mobo with no ram, no cpu, and no OS'
[22:27:29] <Tom_L> i can't say for sure i've done that though but i do have xp pro here
[22:27:40] <katsmeow> cannot dl the owner manual on any of these
[22:28:02] <Tom_L> from the oem website you can get more info on both
[22:28:50] <Tom_L> so far i like the gigabyte board
[22:29:20] <Tom_L> but that's probably not what you're looking for
[22:29:48] <katsmeow> it will be 3x the cost by the time the ram and cpu is added
[22:30:04] <katsmeow> and, still a crapshoot, not knowing what to put into it
[22:30:24] <katsmeow> roll the dice, put in new hardware, see if it works?
[22:42:57] <Tom_L> check the psu plugs too, 24pin & 4 pin for the gigabyte mb
[22:43:23] <Tom_L> more for a $$$$$$ graphic card which i didn't get
[22:43:38] <katsmeow> just want vga
[22:43:46] <Tom_L> yeah
[22:43:58] <Tom_L> gnite...
[22:44:34] <katsmeow> gnites
[23:05:47] <rue_house> knight?
[23:06:32] <rue_house> 330R is way too much impedence to operate a irfz44 for a 7us pulse...
[23:07:10] <katsmeow> i might use a 10 ohm, just so i can measuer the gate drive current
[23:07:31] <katsmeow> put a .1ufd cap across the R ?
[23:07:39] <rue_house> 10r is common value to avoid ringing
[23:08:30] <rue_house> do you know why in RF circuit they put a small cap across the CE of the transistors?
[23:08:30] <katsmeow> ok
[23:08:52] <katsmeow> to swamp the feedback from the collector
[23:09:45] <rue_house> dont know if I completely get that
[23:09:59] <rue_house> the collector providing + feedback to the base?
[23:10:16] <katsmeow> CB feedback is 180 outa phase, it makes the transistor into an oscillator
[23:10:47] <katsmeow> at least, voltage-wise, the emitter is tracking the base, ideally
[23:10:53] <rue_house> ok
[23:11:46] <katsmeow> the gotcha is: if the emitter isn't trackng the base ideally, the cap adds a non-linear complex unpredictable load to the base drive, but it may be insignificant
[23:26:47] <katsmeow> http://www.questionablecontent.net/ <<== 2 robots talking
[23:48:30] <katsmeow> [katsmeow PING reply]: 43 secs
[23:49:15] <rue_shop3> heh
[23:54:34] <katsmeow> chip is .340 long, .177 wide, nas 12 50ohm resistors in it
