18:56 ^kat^-afk the First World War or the Great War, was a global war centred in Europe that began on 28 July 1914
18:56 ^kat^-afk German u-botes sank over 5000 ships during that war
18:57 ^kat^-afk fwiw, Walmart is selling remote controlled toy trucks for $19
19:02 Tom_itx are these 2 factoids related?
19:03 ^kat^-afk yeas: i reported them all in here within minutes
19:03 ^kat^-afk otherwise, no
19:03 Tom_itx good nuf
19:04 ^kat^-afk how are ye?
19:04 Tom_itx doc says i need a mri
19:04 Tom_itx i asked if he was gonna pay for it
19:04 ^kat^-afk really? those are $1200 a pop
19:05 ^kat^-afk what would you use it for?
19:09 ^kat^-afk ...
19:09 Tom_itx guess it's like a video camera of the brain
19:10 ^kat^-afk to locate a headache?
19:10 Tom_itx no
19:10 Tom_itx ear doc
19:10 ^kat^-afk i know "mri", it's used all over the body
19:10 Tom_itx guess he couldn't see in far enough
19:12 ^kat^-afk mri can see amazing details
19:13 ^kat^-afk my back mri said i have one collaped disk, and two bulging,,, and then insurance canceled and the docs told me to go away
19:13 Tom_itx it should as much as they charge
19:13 ^kat^-afk mri of my infenectd sinuses made the docs tell me to quit smoking.... i don't smoke, that's just how bac the air pollution can get ut here
20:04 at^-afk samples the decaffinated, decarbonated, and no-sugar Coke..... and decides it's just odd-tasting brown wa

21:49 at^-afk goes to http://www.powerelectronictips.com/teardown-60-w-equivalent-led-bulbs ins
22:00 ^kat^-afk some of those look way too complicated
22:00 Tom_itx ok
22:05 ^kat^-afk Your November account statement is a
22:05 ^kat^-afk vailable.
22:07 ^kat^-afk isn't that nic
22:07 ^kat^-afk e?
22:10 rue_house ?
22:10 e_house is still wakin
22:13 ^kat^-afk FETs consume more power when switching than in a steady on or off state. This is because their internal gate capacitance must be charged and discharged to switch the output. Peak gate currents of 2 A or more are not unusual.
22:13 ^kat^-afk A dc/dc converter running with no load will still be switching the FETs hundreds of thousands of times per second, so it is not unusual for a dc/dc converter to still run warm without any load.
22:22 rue_house tho, I cant get a 0.005uF cap to be warm driving it at 250Khz
22:23 rue_house 1A spikes, .05us
22:23 rue_house I worked out the joules
22:23 rue_house I didn't have a chance to work out that capacitor question you had
22:23 rue_house are you still interested in the answer
22:24 ^kat^-afk well, only that zhanx said he had some 1 farad 220vAC capacitors
22:24 rue_house ? they dont make them that big
22:24 ^kat^-afk i almost fell ota my chair, thay'd haveto be the size of a small car
22:25 rue_house na,. I think he's wrong
22:25 ^kat^-afk prolly
22:25 rue_house I would beleive he has 1000MF capacitors
22:25 rue_house but not 1 farad
22:25 ^kat^-afk plus those are really high impedance devices, you can't pull any substancial peak current from them
22:26 rue_house 1000MF
22:27 ^kat^-afk 1000uf = .001 farad
22:27 ^kat^-afk i millifarad
22:27 rue_house yea
22:27 rue_house they mark them 1000MF
22:27 ^kat^-afk at 220vac that would still be a sizeable cap
22:27 rue_house saw one a while ago
22:28 ^kat^-afk about a foot square?
22:28 rue_house was working on expalinging to one of my buddies mmf marking
22:28 rue_house no, its a motor starter cap, about 1.5" x 3" x 6"
22:29 rue_house I dont know how long they use mmf unstead of uf
22:30 ^kat^-afk mmf = pf
22:30 rue_house hu?
22:30 rue_house 1F /1000 /1000 ?
22:30 ^kat^-afk afaik, no one considered millifarad caps uti l power semiconductors were made
22:30 rue_house hmm
22:31 rue_house I'v lost my good old radio tube book
22:31 rue_house it had the nail-to-a-board electronic projects
22:31 rue_house all wonderfully hand illistrated
22:32 rue_house :(
22:32 at^-afk shudders at hammering a vac tube to a b
22:32 rue_house I think they were soldering components to the tops of the nails
22:32 ^kat^-afk https://duckduckgo.com/?q=arrl+tube+databook
22:32 rue_house it was not arrl
22:33 rue_house it was a cloth bound hard cover of some kind
22:33 rue_house no face page
22:34 ^kat^-afk thought it might provide side leads to the one you had
22:35 rue_house I dont rmember the name
22:35 rue_house it was a beginners book
22:35 rue_house they make modules that you connected togethor later
22:36 rue_house I'm kinda upset that I cant find it
22:36 ^kat^-afk i remember a book where barrier strips were screwed to plywood, and tube sockets used spacers and screws
22:36 rue_house https://assets-auto.rbl.ms/814302b1576cdf6dafe7b3a5f4576d8cdcd08e80f79a1710b2b70f5d2b95a197
22:36 rue_house hah, good idea
22:36 ^kat^-afk dija loan it to one of the kids?
22:37 rue_house I dont know what happened, lots of my things get loaned out, I ctry to track them careuflly
22:42 rue_house http://1stopretroshop.com/item-photos/1940s-illustrated-vacuum-tube-vintage-technical-book-on-radio-servicingrepair-1stopretroshop-b25544-1.jpg
22:42 rue_house it looked a little like that, but thats not it
22:42 ^kat^-afk
22:42 ^kat^-afk I have been asked to generate a 100Amp RMS precise sinusoidal current. It will have negligible burden/load...... Only thing I need now is about 150 amps of current. Where to get that?
22:42 ^kat^-afk Yes the aim is AC Ammeter and Clamp meter testing.
22:42 ^kat^-afk
22:42 ^kat^-afk LMAO
22:43 rue_house hmm
22:43 ^kat^-afk he wants to test using one pass of 150amps, not 30 passes of 5 amps, etc
22:43 rue_house hehe
22:43 ^kat^-afk what a moron
22:44 rue_house just incase its not the same eh :)
22:44 ^kat^-afk am i the only one who knows how to range-multiply a clampon ammeter?
22:44 ^kat^-afk wow
22:44 rue_house I'd go with different 1A spools
22:45 rue_house or a 100 turn 1A coil
22:45 rue_house I suppose a 50 turn 2A and you could use a bench supply
22:46 ^kat^-afk yep
22:47 ^kat^-afk i had a 10 turn coil i used a lot, made the 5amp scale be 1/2 amp, and the 25amp be 2.5amp, the 150amp be 15amp
22:47 rue_house my clamp on did NOT like my spot welder ;)
22:48 ^kat^-afk i can believe that
22:48 rue_house its only 1200A, GEEZ
22:48 ^kat^-afk start on the 600amp setting?
22:48 ^kat^-afk oh,, ok
22:48 ^kat^-afk <cough>
22:48 rue_house tiz just a switch
22:48 rue_house sometimes a stickey one, which is not cool
22:49 ^kat^-afk use ford car starter relay, i've run 600amps thru them for minutes at a time
22:50 ^kat^-afk prolly easy to make a one-shot relay: sprng to slam the copper bars together, hammer to knock them apart
22:51 ^kat^-afk starter selenoids (the ones that trow in the drive gear, not the ones that operate the motor current)
22:51 rue_house usually, a 15A breaker trips at the end of a perfect weld
22:51 ^kat^-afk prolly not good for the breaker
22:52 rue_house poor grandma, used to get so worked up about me tripping that
22:53 ^kat^-afk "my son is always trippin!"
22:53 rue_house ok dryer has no heat
22:54 ^kat^-afk power tweaked again while i was watching the laptop, it's power brick seems to sence the ups cutting in, and the brick resets, and the laptop is runnng on the almost dead battery for 2 secnds
22:55 ^kat^-afk once reset, the brick runs ok on the ups, but then resets again when powerco comes back up
22:56 rue_house apparently I didn't take a pic of the schematic
22:56 rue_house 18V / 6V = 3
22:57 ^kat^-afk ROHM has recently announced the development of a 1200V/300A full SiC power module designed for inverters and converters in solar power conditioners and industrial equipment. <<== haven't those been around for 10 yrs or so?
23:01 rue_house dont know about 300A
23:01 rue_house maybe its more efficient than the old ones?
23:01 rue_house I really need that dryer schematic
23:01 rue_house I DO NOT WANT TO TAKE APART MY DRYER AGAIN
23:04 ^kat^-afk “One company I’m familiar with installed 50 of these things at about $4,000 a piece. By the time everything was installed, they’d spent about $1 million. But they didn’t save any energy,” he relates. Worse, the victims in situations like this one are often so embarrassed, he says, they typically bury the evidence rather than make a stink about being scammed.
23:06 ^kat^-afk can you print a printed circuit board yet?
23:07 ^kat^-afk According to Jon Harrop, director of the IDTechEx market research firm, the 3D-printed electronics market is worth around $20 million today, slightly less than what the New York Yankees paid designated hitter Alex Rodriquez to play baseball in 2015.
23:07 rue_house some people want to save energy up till they see what they would need to do to be saving energy, and decide to stay with the space heater going full blast in the garage while the car door is open
23:07 at^-afk cu
23:07 rue_house garage door
23:07 rue_house if thats what the player made, imagine what the agent made
23:08 ^kat^-afk yeas, Walmart had all 8 high-bay garage doors open, and 4 monster heaters running
23:08 rue_house yup, 'cause its cold out ther!'
23:08 rue_house the canadian dollar is going in the trash
23:09 ^kat^-afk can't sell oil fast enough?
23:09 rue_house we are the country of origin of the oil, but we dont own the oil
23:10 rue_house all the mining companies are US
23:10 rue_house all we make are taxes off them mining it
23:10 ^kat^-afk or chinese?
23:10 rue_house yea, but not us
23:11 rue_house I wonder what happens when the oil runs out
23:11 rue_house car makers that havn't gone to electric will be over
23:12 rue_house ok that schematic must be here
23:12 rue_house I remember marking it up
23:12 ^kat^-afk they'll use propane, natural gas, or h@
23:12 ^kat^-afk H2
23:13 ^kat^-afk Not all PCB printers cater to simple board designs. The Dragonfly 2020 from Nano Dimension in Israel will be optimized specifically to fabricate multiple-layer boards when it comes out sometime in 2016.
23:13 ^kat^-afk “We wouldn’t launch the machine without the ability to print at least 12 layers,” said Nano Dimension Co-founder Simon Fried. “We expect it to be able to handle 20 layers and we wouldn’t be surprised if our first units could print 30 layers or more.”
23:14 rue_house they went to all that work to make the anti-H2 campaigns too
23:14 rue_house to me, 30 layers just means bad routing
23:14 rue_house OOOOO THUNDER
23:15 ^kat^-afk i don't think there is enough copper to make motors for all the existing cars, or enough lead or lithium to make batteries (and no battery will move an 18 wheeler up the interstate here)
23:15 ^kat^-afk or enough platium to make enough fuel cells
23:17 ^kat^-afk wha?
23:17 ^kat^-afk oh
23:18 ^kat^-afk fixed
23:21 ^kat^-afk the introduction of the industry’s first 1700V SiC MOSFET
23:23 ^kat^-afk Designated the C2M1000170J, the new 1700V SiC MOSFET features an avalanche rating greater than 1800V, and RDS(on) of 1O. <<== no amp rating
23:24 rue_house based on the age of the bills piled up on the UPS batteries, I wonder if I should worry about how old the ups batteries are...
23:25 ^kat^-afk depends, are the bills from the powerco ?
23:26 zhanx Did I post a pic of my fish tank? Since I can no longer go to foreign countries I am bringing them to me
23:26 ^kat^-afk yo did not do that yet
23:27 rue_house not that pile, or that one.....
23:27 rue_house its all the bills
23:27 rue_house its the pile I put them in when their paid before they are filed
23:27 ^kat^-afk http://www.wolfspeed.com/power/products/sic-mosfets/c2m1000170j 1700v 1ohm 3.5amps

23:30 rue_house my fish would eat those plants in a day
23:30 ^kat^-afk feed the fish, rue!
23:30 rue_house I do, they get borred
23:31 ^kat^-afk drop a keybd into the tank?
23:31 zhanx http://imgur.com/MDQH5Ng
23:32 zhanx Think my tank is healthy
23:32 rue_house in 5 years or so you will be ready to eat them
23:33 zhanx The gold fish!
23:33 rue_house everyone keeps telling me to eat mine
23:33 ^kat^-afk why does one plant have an orange ID tag ?
23:34 zhanx Dr mario on the tv
23:34 zhanx Reflection
23:36 ^kat^-afk o
23:43 rue_house turned the whole room over, found a lot of things, none of them are the dryer schematics
23:44 zhanx What's up with the dryer
23:45 zhanx Wait clothes dryer?
23:47 ^kat^-afk they shol dbe tyrapped to the back of the dryer, or under the top lid, can you lift the top lid at the front?
23:48 zhanx Panel on back of dryer
23:48 ^kat^-afk those never last, they should be copied in hirez and duplicates stashed everywhere
