00:55 rue_shop4 0.7us 10 cycles
00:55 rue_shop4 so .07us/cycle
00:55 rue_shop4 14Mhz
02:09 zhanx Evening
14:37 rue_house Tom_itx, the S10 is being hard to start, what are the odds I just ned to regap the plugs?
15:00 Tom_itx i'd just change em
15:00 Tom_itx but i dunno
15:00 Tom_itx bad fuel?
15:18 rue_house its 10 weeks+ old
15:46 at^ has spent all afternoon on one jig and needs a sitdown and paw mas
16:03 rue_house hmmmm
16:04 ^kat^ i dunno that tune
16:04 rue_house I cant remember the title...
16:04 rue_house whats the jig for kat?
16:05 rue_house ^^ sounds like something you would hear from a jaz player sitting on the street
16:05 rue_house the cats are confused, I was up till 5am
16:05 ^kat^ holding the pod legs aligned
16:06 ^kat^ so i can weld them up straight, identical, with diagonals and such
16:06 rue_house at 3am I ran out of milk for tea
16:07 ^kat^ so they are out of milk too
16:07 rue_house at 4:30 I finished a pcb and realized it wasn't laid out at all like I'd asked for
16:07 ^kat^ you can't follow your own directions, eh?
16:07 rue_house I also realized at 5am that the am/pm on the shop clock are backwards
16:08 rue_house apparently not when I'm in autopilot mode
16:08 rue_house the pinout was supposed to be [signal, signal, ground] and came out [signal, ground, signal]
16:08 rue_house which dosn't matter, its just not what I asked for
16:09 rue_house Tom_itx, your cnc it a 1/4HP motor with a ~5:1?
16:10 rue_house ok, I'v eaten food that can, with varrying definitions, be classified as a breakfast and lunch
16:10 rue_house I apparently need to go buy milk
16:11 rue_house SO many things to do... can I just hide?
16:11 rue_house can I go shopping in my pajamas?
16:11 rue_house where can I get pajamas suitable for welding in
16:11 ^kat^ i believe you are capable of that, yeas
16:12 ^kat^ pajamas are too flammable for welding in
16:12 rue_house kat, did you say a leather apron? or a threchcoat?
16:12 ^kat^ lightweight fire retardant green jacket
16:12 rue_house hmm
16:12 ^kat^ yeas, i have set my pants on fire
16:12 rue_house I wonder if the fire department has something used
16:13 ^kat^ yeas, i have melted thru my shoes
16:13 rue_house yea, I dance quick if I see molten metal falling
16:13 rue_house screw the bead!
16:13 ^kat^ why do you want something so heavy? i meen welding all day in sweatpants and a tshirt
16:13 rue_house ah, good point
16:14 rue_house see, if I were a machine I'd just have to worry about making sure I had the EMI jacket on
16:15 rue_house truck runs fine but is getting really hard to start
16:15 rue_house sounds like the starter is really having problems cranking it, even on good battery juice
16:16 ^kat^ timing too far advanced?
16:17 ^kat^ compare the starter cables that may be carrying 60 amp, to your arc welding cables that carry 100amps
16:17 ^kat^ err
16:17 ^kat^ oops
16:17 ^kat^ compare the starter cables that may be carrying 600 amp, to your arc welding cables that carry 100amps
16:20 ^kat^ ok, i go back outside to make noise and stuff
16:27 rue_shop4 dosn't the finger of a plug being white mean something specific?
16:28 rue_shop4 too hot
18:10 katsmeow-afk especially if there is any aluminum around
18:11 katsmeow-afk 6 hrs work, and all i have for it is 2 legs put together, and a couple pieces of jig
18:11 katsmeow-afk oh, lug like spark
18:13 katsmeow-afk lean, which usually means hot also ,, but not abnormal, unless it's heavy
18:14 katsmeow-afk better indicator is to ignore the white and see if the electrode has been eaten away by the heat
18:14 katsmeow-afk if the ceramic is blistered, it is to hot
18:15 rue_house the electrode dosn't look like T, its like n
18:15 katsmeow-afk how many miles on it?
18:15 rue_house whats a mile?
18:15 katsmeow-afk an arbitrary numbe someone guessed up 300 yrs ago
18:16 rue_house about 189207
18:16 katsmeow-afk on those plugs!?!
18:16 rue_house no,
18:16 rue_house I dont have the maintenance journal to know when I last changed them
18:16 katsmeow-afk http://www.classictruckshop.com/clubs/earlyburbs/projects/spark/plugs.htm
18:17 katsmeow-afk clean them off, see if the ceramic has been eaten
18:17 katsmeow-afk if you cannot clean the white off, or the electrodes or ceamic is pitted, then replace
18:17 katsmeow-afk else regap , check continuity, and put em back in
18:19 katsmeow-afk the last pic, regardless of the busted ceramic, detonation can cause hard starting, but that's seldom the problem when cold
18:19 katsmeow-afk hard starting when cold *can be*, may not be, too much spark advance, especially if it's detonating when hot
18:20 katsmeow-afk deposits are usually only a problem if the engine is tending to flood, and misfire for a few sec or a minute after starting
18:21 katsmeow-afk the deposits soak up fuel and shortcircuit the spark, compression heat is slow to dry it out
18:22 katsmeow-afk that was more of a problem with carburators tho, fuel injectrs are shut off with the engine spark, so theengine usually doesn't keep getting fuel after yoou shut it off noawadys
18:23 rue_shop4 I'm starting to notice its only hard start when warm
18:24 katsmeow-afk hard start = slow to turn over? then check spark advance
18:25 katsmeow-afk spec may be only 5 degrees before tdc , but rpm and vac advance units bring it as far forward as 30 degrees in high performance engines ,, 20 is normal when accellerating hard at high rpm
18:27 katsmeow-afk with timing lite onit, gun it, make sure it zooms the timing way forwards, if it doesn't, you have bad timing advance somewhere, it's not working or it's stuck
18:27 katsmeow-afk leaky vac lines can cause loooong crank times, but the engine usually spins freely
18:28 katsmeow-afk leaky vac lines can cause poor performance, for several reasons
18:47 rue_shop4 turns over slow and coughs on actual start
18:47 rue_shop4 have had to hit the pedal a few times, too much fuel?
18:48 rue_shop4 there is a high probability of a vac line leak
18:48 rue_shop4 I'll check it over
18:49 katsmeow-afk vac line leak would not cause increased load on the starter
18:49 katsmeow-afk carb? you have to hit the pedal to set the choke, that's very normal
18:50 rue_shop4 its electronic control, throttle body inj
18:51 katsmeow-afk also actualtes the accel pump on the carb, sitting hot will boil out all the fuel in the intake manifold, so the engine is not getting enough fuel to make vac to suck enough air thru the carb to get it to vaporise fuel,, if's a chicken and egg problem
18:51 katsmeow-afk oh
18:51 katsmeow-afk feed it some injector cleaner?
18:52 rue_shop4 I had that thoguht
18:52 katsmeow-afk i made a sensor to determine if the engine was running out not: it was a vac sensor, because at the same rpm, if the atarter is turning it and it's not running, there's no vac, if same rpm and there is van, the engine is running, turn off the atarter
18:53 rue_shop4 I was wondering if I shoudl pull the injector and interrogate it
18:53 katsmeow-afk umm, ask it how it's doing?
18:53 rue_shop4 oo
18:53 rue_shop4 hook it up to the chair and zap it till it talks
18:54 katsmeow-afk just don't overcurrentit
18:54 rue_shop4 no
18:54 rue_shop4 hmm
18:54 rue_shop4 working on my led clock
18:54 rue_shop4 the logic is 5V
18:54 rue_shop4 the drivers are 4V @ 5A
18:54 rue_shop4 I probably shouldn't use the same ground pin for both supplies
19:16 katsmeow-afk On March 6, 1931, the composite bid of $48,890,995.50 for building the Hoover Dam was accepted. This amount is about equal to the present cost of a high performance U.S. Army helicopter.
19:28 rue_shop4 I wonder if that before of after taxes
19:31 rue_shop4 I wonder what electrolite I could use to plate copper with steel
19:33 katsmeow-afk you cannot plate steel onto stuff
19:33 katsmeow-afk steel is a mix of difefrent metals
19:34 rue_shop4 ok, iron
19:34 rue_shop4 :P
19:34 rue_shop4 I wonder if the helicopters warranty covers accidental damage
19:35 rue_shop4 2A thru about 1/4" of 22 guage shouldn't casue too much voltage should it?
19:38 katsmeow-afk i think it will get real warm
19:39 tsmeow-afk would like some dinner, and someone else to fi
19:48 katsmeow-afk rice is nuking
19:51 tsmeow-afk remembers the pins on some TO-204 transistors would unsolder themselves unless forced air was on them at all t
19:59 rue_house I wonder how accuratly I can measure water by using pressure-seconds
20:00 Tom_itx <rue_house> Tom_itx, your cnc it a 1/4HP motor with a ~5:1?
20:00 Tom_itx ?
20:01 Tom_itx spindle is ~1/6hp probably
20:01 Tom_itx about 1.7:1 iirc
20:01 Tom_itx maybe less
20:01 Tom_itx 1.2:1?
20:02 Tom_itx why?
20:41 rue_shop4 does cholesterol get burned up like other fats?
20:41 rue_shop4 Tom_itx, I'm gathering info for trying to make a machine
20:42 rue_shop4 I'm going around in circles on linear bearings
20:43 katsmeow-afk cholesterols is an esterol, and is used to make up many otehr compounds
20:52 Tom_itx get a bigger spindle then
20:55 rue_shop4 what determines how fast its removed?
20:55 Tom_itx get a better diet
20:56 Tom_itx i did, my bp went from ~100 to ~70 on the bottom
20:56 Tom_itx do i like it?
20:56 Tom_itx no
20:56 katsmeow-afk my bp is so low it sets off alarms and poeple ask me if i am still alive
20:57 rue_shop4 kat. low salt diet?
20:57 katsmeow-afk i tend to eat salt so it stays up enough that i don't faint
21:09 Tom_itx rue_shop4, watch the tapping video and you will see it needs a bigger spindle motor
21:10 Tom_itx actually considered a nice sized servo
21:10 katsmeow-afk i have made spagetti with so much salt it was crunchy, and i ate the whole bowlfull that way
21:10 Tom_itx not sure i could do that
21:11 katsmeow-afk it would have made most people vomit, i suspect
21:11 katsmeow-afk i need the salt, dunno why
21:23 katsmeow-afk http://discuss.seasteading.org/uploads/default/original/2X/0/0b35151437972513ef1050a9018ebf47a7b5d32f.jpg <<== 6+ hrs to build the jig to accurately hold those 2 legs for welding
21:26 katsmeow-afk http://discuss.seasteading.org/uploads/default/optimized/2X/8/83d2b8e542f9db36b127503590f7010f32de0db9_1_666x500.jpg <<== a closeup pic of the last pod i did, showing the seam where i welded the plate to it's skirt. The center top vertical thing is one of the 1/8 ribs also welded to the plate.
21:35 rue_house "as I poured the hot water down the drain, I was so entranced watching all the bits of dirt on the walls of the sink break loose and go downt eh drain that I failed to notice there was an increasing amount of spagetti moving with it"
21:36 rue_house looks good kat, I'm confused at what I'm looking at, tho, its right side up isn't it?
21:36 katsmeow-afk overwrap the bowl with a small towel, hold the bowl with the towel to avod beng burned, pour the water thru the towl, towels have a natural forcefield that will restrict the spagetti to the bowl as the water runs out
21:36 rue_house katsmeow-afk, how long do your electronic helmets last?
21:36 katsmeow-afk yeasr
21:36 rue_house about 4?
21:37 rue_house mine is starting to fail, I cant get it apart to get at the battery
21:37 katsmeow-afk pretty sure it's longrt, i think the current one is 5 or 6 yrs old
21:38 katsmeow-afk 1.25 lip welded to the edge (and under) of a 1/8 thick plate, with the 1.25 tall rib showing on top
21:39 katsmeow-afk 7018 stick welded , ~90 amps, 3/32 rod
21:39 katsmeow-afk or 1/8, i forget
21:39 katsmeow-afk i open a box, i use the rods, i don't read the box every day
21:40 katsmeow-afk if i hold the rod still for a count of 2, i have burned thru the plate
21:41 katsmeow-afk but since i am also welding some 3/16 steel , like i was today, 90 amps is a good setting
21:42 katsmeow-afk oh, the rib and the skirt are of 1/8 thick too
21:43 katsmeow-afk whatever the tops of my welds look like, grinding or cutting them apart shows no voids
21:43 katsmeow-afk and on the 3/16 or 1/8 thick steel, i get complete penetration when welding from both sides
21:46 katsmeow-afk i cut thru ~4 inches of weld today, to take apart bits of the jig and move them
21:46 rue_shop4 wont 90A cut with 3/32?
21:47 katsmeow-afk the ther day i weled down 2 ribs upside down, had to cut thru about 5 feet of bead to get them off
21:47 katsmeow-afk 5ft... /me recounts
21:47 katsmeow-afk 5x 2 x 4 inches
21:47 rue_shop4 hmm
21:48 katsmeow-afk 40 inches, not 5 ft
21:48 rue_shop4 its a song by the steam power giraffe
21:48 rue_shop4 that calc looks well used
21:48 katsmeow-afk "wont 90A cut with 3/32" is sung by "steam power giraffe" ?
21:48 rue_shop4 no, the song i was humming
21:48 katsmeow-afk real basic, real cheap, <$1
21:49 e_shop4 measures kats awakeness at atout
21:49 rue_shop4 atout?
21:49 rue_shop4 hmm
21:49 tsmeow-afk cheers that with another sip of ka
21:49 katsmeow-afk my feets are very hurting atm, all f them
21:50 rue_shop4 unfriendly boots?
21:50 katsmeow-afk in the 6hrs, i did more disk cutting than weldng,, 6" disk in a body grinder, held with one paw
21:50 rue_shop4 I dnt like those days
21:50 katsmeow-afk my back is unfriendly to all nerve signals below the waist
21:51 rue_shop4 signal to noise ratio and the AGC losing it
21:51 rue_shop4 PFM nerves
21:52 rue_shop4 I wonder how you work out if the problem is the transmitter or the transmission line
21:52 katsmeow-afk MRI and cat scans
21:52 katsmeow-afk the disls are collapsed, the bones are on top of each otehr, things are sqished
21:53 katsmeow-afk my aws are so sore they don't wanna type
21:53 rue_shop4 transmission line
21:54 rue_shop4 I wonder whats the larger component, electrical or chemical
21:54 rue_shop4 electrochamical
21:55 katsmeow-afk my back is PHYSICALLY damaged, not electrically or chemically
21:55 rue_shop4 yes, but if the nerves were all fine, there wouldn't be any .... hmmm
21:56 katsmeow-afk that's like bashing a copper pipe with a hammer, and saying "if only all lthe water was alright, it wold flow normally"
21:58 rue_shop4 yea, my argument broke down while i was compounding the details
22:01 katsmeow-afk rice is strange,, no matter what is done to it, it is always imroved a lil more by adding butter to it, and sometimes cooked egg
22:31 rue_house I like to throw in mushroom soup or a pack of flavoring from instant noodles
22:33 rue_shop4 I wonder how much I carry with 22 gua wire
22:33 rue_shop4 these leds pull between 150 and 700mA
22:34 rue_shop4 but I cant really go over about 200mA without overloading everything
22:34 rue_shop4 must be good for that
23:24 rue_shop4 another 30 or so wires, and the driver board for the clock should be 'done'
23:25 katsmeow-afk 30 wires? what about ribbon cable?
23:26 rue_shop4 they are interchip jumpers
23:26 rue_shop4 I'm using wire wrap wire
23:26 katsmeow-afk o
23:26 rue_shop4 tho in the irony of it, if I were wrapping it, I'd been done long ago
23:35 rue_house katsmeow-afk, stay! (pls)..
23:35 katsmeow-afk ??
23:36 rue_house posting images...
23:37 katsmeow-afk o
23:38 rue_house http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/wallclock/p1070495.jpg
23:38 rue_house http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/wallclock/p1070497.jpg
23:39 rue_house http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/wallclock/p1070493.jpg
23:40 rue_house I'd been working on this for about .. wow, 19 years
23:40 rue_house hahah
23:40 katsmeow-afk lotta io pins on top
23:40 rue_house the technololgy I'm using for it drastically changed a few times
23:41 rue_house they hook up to the segments
23:41 katsmeow-afk holy mackrel at the size of the leds
23:41 rue_house no flashy flashy, all dedicated lines
23:41 rue_house I used the cnc to cut out foam, and then painted it with black stain
23:42 rue_house http://www.ebay.ca/itm/50-x-3W-Watt-LED-COOL-White-190-250-Lm-High-Power-Lamp-Chip-Beads-45ml-/221411769959?hash=item338d2b7e67&vxp=mtr
23:42 rue_house those are the leds behind them
23:42 rue_house 1 per segment
23:43 katsmeow-afk woah, so lighting the max segments will melt the foam?
23:43 rue_house but the ones I'm using are only like 1.5w
23:43 rue_house no, I'm just running them at max 200ma of 700ma
23:43 rue_house prolly down around 150ma
23:44 katsmeow-afk woah, spoofing user agent makes ebay return interesting webpages
23:44 rue_house the goal was a proper digital wall clock
23:44 rue_house ;)
23:44 katsmeow-afk right now it things i am using a cellphone
23:44 e_house hates mobile s
23:45 rue_house there is a piece of frosted glass that goes over the segments, and there are pieces of wood that close it up
23:45 rue_house from what I can tell tho, I'm gonna be pushing about 20w, :/
23:45 katsmeow-afk small 80mm fan on super low, with temperature detector?
23:46 rue_house the resistors are just 3.9R to help with the current control
23:46 katsmeow-afk 20w is going to get hot in a few hours
23:46 rue_house I'll see how it goes
23:47 katsmeow-afk you cannot see the black segments against the grey foam, thru te frosted glass?
23:47 rue_house I wanted seconds, which I couldn't origionally do, but I'm wondering if I should stick some 'just large' 7 segs in the upper corner
23:47 katsmeow-afk i suspect you may need to black it all
23:47 rue_house yea, me too
23:47 rue_house I'm gonna play with masking later
23:48 katsmeow-afk what is FFOS - Flame ?
23:48 rue_house the origional design was gonna use 3V christmas tree lamps :)
23:48 rue_house FOSS?
23:49 katsmeow-afk no, FFOS
23:49 rue_house ?
23:49 rue_house Fire Fox OS?
23:50 rue_house anyhow, thats what I'm working on
23:50 rue_house put about 20 hours into it now sofar
23:50 rue_house (in the past two days)
23:50 rue_house 19 years, hahah
23:51 katsmeow-afk http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/159578-flame-firefox-os-developer-reference-phone/
23:51 katsmeow-afk ebay thought i was that
23:52 katsmeow-afk https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Firefox_OS
23:53 katsmeow-afk that's something i cold use, i'd hang them in several places, the garage/barn first
23:54 katsmeow-afk sell the segments n ebay, rue
23:56 rue_shop4 ?
23:56 rue_shop4 you think they would sell?
23:57 katsmeow-afk i just found someone who wants them
23:57 katsmeow-afk besides me
23:57 katsmeow-afk > i actuallyp wanted to build a huge wall clock powered by a propeller chip one of these days
23:57 rue_shop4 you want segment masks?
23:57 rue_shop4 oh my, demand, thats unexpected
23:57 katsmeow-afk if i sell them, i get in trouble because ia m makingmoney
23:58 rue_shop4 from the top of the top segment to the bottom of the bottom segment, they are 15.5cm
23:58 e_shop4
23:58 rue_shop4 I suppose then they said that as long as you never make money your ok to be broke?
23:59 katsmeow-afk yep
