21:19 ^kat^ http://designerthinking.com/images/shantyboat/DSCF6760m.jpg <<== almost got another done today
22:22 Tom_itx http://www.walmart.com/ip/NEMA-23-2-Phase-Robot-Lathe-CNC-Stepper-Motor-56mm-3A-156oz.in-w-Driver/46930349
22:22 Tom_itx http://www.walmart.com/ip/NEMA-8-2-Phase-Lathe-CNC-Stepper-Motor-40mm-0.6A-3.7oz.in-w-M415B-Driver/46935680
22:22 Tom_itx http://www.walmart.com/ip/Nema-24-1.8-Degree-CNC-Stepping-Stepper-Motor-90mm-4A-368oz.in-w-MB450A-Driver/46945879
22:22 ^kat^ no
22:23 Tom_itx no what?
22:23 ^kat^ $11 for the motor and HV driver box?
22:23 Tom_itx uh huh
22:23 ^kat^ it's out of stock
22:23 Tom_itx nema 24 double stack too
22:24 ^kat^ it's out of stock, cannot buy it
22:24 at^ makes a page for outa stock items for 10 c
22:24 Tom_itx the last one looks in stock and it's the bigger one
22:25 ^kat^ the last one says "new" "clearance" AND "out of stock"
22:26 Tom_itx well forget i ever mentioned it then
22:26 rue_school .
22:26 ^kat^ no
22:26 Tom_itx was rather surprised to see that there
22:26 ^kat^ did you buy them all?
22:26 ^kat^ how can i buy them from Walmart if they are out of stock?
22:27 rue_school WALLMART!?
22:27 ^kat^ that's what i said
22:28 rue_school I bet wallmart has someone in ordering who is a hobbyist
22:28 ^kat^ if you search for stepper......
22:29 rue_school I dont know how you manage to find these things, amazing
22:29 ^kat^ they list the steppermotors, but not the steppers with driver hardware
22:30 Tom_itx rue_school you should get a bucket full of them at those prices
22:30 rue_school http://www.aliexpress.com/item/3D-printer-CNC-Stepper-Drive-Motor-Kit-Leadshine-42HS08-M415B-2ph-101oz-in-0-71NM-NEMA17/32357986329.html?spm=2114.01020208.3.59.SInNON&ws_ab_test=201556_3,201527_4_71_72_73_74_75,201409_4
22:30 rue_school I dont see prices
22:31 Tom_itx that' only 101 oz too
22:31 rue_school what prices do you see?
22:31 Tom_itx 69 bux
22:32 Tom_itx 27 shipping
22:32 rue_school huh
22:32 ^kat^ i think alltronics or allelectronics had them for about those prices once
22:32 Tom_itx 96 total
22:33 Tom_itx 11 sounds better to me
22:34 ^kat^ http://www.walmart.com/search/?query=stepper&page=4&sort=price_low&cat_id=0&min_price=1&max_price=49&facet=price:$0%20-%20$50
22:34 rue_school should Iput a water cooler in the shop?
22:34 ^kat^ no, a baby fridge with a couple jugs of water
22:35 Tom_itx if you need something to stand by while telling jokes, yes
22:35 rue_school hahaha they want $13 for a $1 stepper driver
22:35 rue_school thats most of what happens in the shop anyhow
22:36 ^kat^ http://www.walmart.com/search/?query=stepper&page=2&sort=price_low&cat_id=0&min_price=1&max_price=49&facet=price:$0%20-%20$50
22:36 ^kat^ their ordering parameter sucks
22:36 rue_school have paper cups with a trash bin and have one of those heated conversations like an 'Airplane'
22:36 rue_school so, wallmart is going hobbyist then, amazing
22:37 rue_school they could make up for lots of what radioshack never went nera
22:37 ^kat^ no, the motors+drivers are all listed clearance out of stock
22:37 rue_school oh
22:37 Tom_itx mebbe you can get your reprap replacement parts there soon
22:38 Tom_itx i think my kid's gonna have some of these parts he's drawing printed at school
22:38 Tom_itx i encouraged him to do so and keep them to show for future job hunts
22:39 ^kat^ what is his chronological age now?
22:39 Tom_itx 18
22:39 ^kat^ ah
22:39 Tom_itx one is anyway
22:40 at^ holds her paws out and blinks, and they aren't coming cl
22:40 Tom_itx last year hs but grades are good enough he can take college classes for credit
22:40 Tom_itx and he can get these trade coursed for free
22:41 Tom_itx normally about 3k
22:41 Tom_itx for what he's taking
22:41 Tom_itx so i'm learning it too
22:41 ^kat^ good deal
22:41 Tom_itx doing all his lessons in solidworks as he does them in catia
22:42 Tom_itx so i have a good feel for both
22:42 rue_school kat, the ground in dirt is how you know you did something worth it. otherwise, the whole thing might not have been real
22:43 ^kat^ i CLEP'd a yr plus some, and took a gtr in college, Ga Tech accepted me based on my credits, but said they didn't recognise any of my credits and i'd be in remedial classes for a year
22:44 ^kat^ i had 2 yrs of class in calculus, they said i needed remedialmath? i never went to college after that
22:44 Tom_itx good thing about this is all the credits will transfer to the local college
22:44 ^kat^ all the college degrees in the world would not help me now anyhow
22:44 Tom_itx i don't care about the paper
22:44 ^kat^ yea, but the local college credit may not transfer anywhere
22:44 Tom_itx it's the experience he's getting now
22:45 Tom_itx doesn't matter kat. it's a good college for engineering etc
22:45 Tom_itx they are the ones teaching catia at the trade school anyway
22:45 ^kat^ k
22:46 Tom_itx i just thought it would be good experience for him whether he uses it or not
22:47 ^kat^ at 18, every expereince helps somehow, i agree
22:47 Tom_itx i considered taking machining classes myself. they've got a room full of HAAS cnc's and all the manual stuff
22:47 ^kat^ you'd just buy more stuff for home
22:47 Tom_itx build
22:47 rue_school kat, whats holding up that plate?
22:48 ^kat^ you don't built stepers or lathe heads
22:48 rue_school the chain is slack...
22:48 Tom_itx bed.
22:48 ^kat^ what plate?
22:48 ^kat^ oh
22:48 rue_school that one
22:49 ^kat^ see all the flat stock and the 2 angles on the plate under the "floating" one?
22:49 rue_school ok
22:49 ^kat^ all that is under the "floating" one too
22:49 ^kat^ together, they are holding up the top of the pate,, which is actually the bottom
22:50 ^kat^ i have pic, lemme mogrify and upload it
22:51 rue_school I'm not versed on your current design, your still a cat?
22:52 ^kat^ DSCF6764m.jpg
22:52 at^ tilts her head at
22:54 e_school tries to me a U.
22:54 e_school segfa
22:54 rue_school got it
22:55 rue_school so what part is that, part of the deck?
22:55 ^kat^ used the first one as the layout and alignment jig to build the 2nd
22:55 ^kat^ no, floatation pods, you didn't see the barrels?
22:56 rue_school yes, I dont know how it all goes togethor yet
22:56 ^kat^ DSCF6753m.jpg
22:56 ^kat^ that's a pod upside down
22:56 rue_school the leasing asssembled design was continious pods from hwt
22:57 ^kat^ huh?
22:57 rue_school when I last heard barrel, I assumed steel
22:57 ^kat^ oh, i tried to get plastic, i succeeded
22:57 rue_school those are $69 ea here
22:57 ^kat^ $11 here
22:57 rue_school oooooooo
22:57 ^kat^ yeas, makes sense now
22:58 rue_school too bad the trip would be so expensive
22:58 ^kat^ yea, they charge to ship that much air
22:58 ^kat^ 30 gallons
23:00 rue_school oh wait, your barrels aren't mounted flat...
23:01 rue_school so you sit higher?
23:01 rue_school bit more drag tho?
23:02 rue_school hmm I'v never done underwater welding...
23:02 ^kat^ drag? i hope the house goes nowhere, i'll anchor it securely, it's not a "boat"
23:02 rue_school oh
23:02 rue_school I thought you were aiming for sailable
23:02 ^kat^ the barrels will sit ~fot outa the water, then 3ft legs up to 1ft I beams, then the house deck framing on those
23:02 rue_school cool
23:03 ^kat^ "boat" is for traveling on, and towing the house
23:03 rue_school how big then?
23:03 rue_school how many barrels?
23:03 ^kat^ enclosed living space = 8ft x 16ft
23:04 ^kat^ 4ft deck around (can be added to), making it 16x16 ft
23:04 rue_school 681kg/cluster
23:04 ^kat^ the barge (8x16) when not used can be docked to it
23:05 ^kat^ boat is to be 6 wide and 18 long
23:05 rue_school how many barrel clusters?
23:05 ^kat^ 16x16 deck with house will prolly be 2000 lbs
23:05 ^kat^ 4 clusters min, 1500 lbs bouyancy each
23:06 rue_school 2725kg
23:06 ^kat^ 8 clusters (my pods) allowed for, for 6000 lbs bouyancy total
23:06 rue_school 5450kg
23:06 rue_school 12000lbs with 8
23:07 ^kat^ no, 6000 lbs with 8
23:07 rue_school your capping at 50% submersion
23:07 rue_school ?
23:07 ^kat^ 40%
23:07 rue_school k
23:07 rue_school so were about there
23:08 ^kat^ altho, the I beams are 17ft, so they will stick out 6" each , wher ei can experiment with other submergeable floatation, for stability
23:08 rue_school how big I
23:08 ^kat^ the I beams are on the truck atm
23:08 rue_school 4"
23:08 rue_school ?
23:08 ^kat^ 12" tall, 5(?)" wide
23:08 rue_school wholy -----
23:08 ^kat^ i got them *cheap*
23:09 rue_school how long?
23:09 rue_school they would add up weight FAST
23:09 ^kat^ [22:45] <^kat^> altho, the I beams are 17ft, so they will stick out 6" each , wher ei can experiment with other submergeable floatation, for stability
23:09 ^kat^ lightweight, the 70 yr old recycler owner pushe dthem arond himself
23:09 rue_school you could also partly flood the barrels to adjust floatation level
23:09 ^kat^ yeas
23:10 rue_school what guage are they? not 1/4"?
23:10 rue_school at 12" they dont have to be thick tho
23:11 ^kat^ i will have skid channels the length of the shantyboat so i can reposition pods, and add more as needed, like bringing the arc welder and big genny aboard, or storing up a month of drinking water, or planting a garden
23:11 ^kat^ no, lil under 3/16, not 1/8
23:11 rue_school you can drop the water into the ocean, it'll float a bit so as to not add weight
23:11 rue_school nice
23:12 rue_school you could prolly use you pool,
23:12 rue_school for the water
23:12 ^kat^ yeas, but floating the water in the water will cause it to move around with the waves, maybe break lines
23:12 rue_school ah
23:12 rue_school yea
23:12 rue_school you need a pool with a ziplock tp
23:12 rue_school top
23:12 ^kat^ but, i can lay them on the pods, if i wanted to (don't wanna)
23:12 rue_school the kind with colour change technology so you know its sealed
23:13 rue_school you could use barrels biased lower with sealed pipe
23:13 at^
23:13 e_school tries to remember how many times he's had todays vitimins t
23:14 ^kat^ directions: eat one tablet 3x per day
23:14 ^kat^ can't, it disolved the first time, and i canot find it now
23:14 rue_school today I went to the vancouver aquarium and watched the water mamals for a while
23:14 rue_school then I went to the vancouver hacker space
23:15 ^kat^ did you watch the mammals there too ?
23:15 rue_school no, just chatted with one
23:16 rue_school I learned things that I think can help improve my shop
23:16 ^kat^ such as?
23:16 ^kat^ fans?
23:16 ^kat^ compress the welding smoke and sell it?
23:16 rue_school definitly mount a screen on the wall
23:16 rue_school make documents to lay things out for people
23:16 ^kat^ keep te bugs off the wall ??
23:17 rue_school some things that cause problems, like project storage space for people
23:17 rue_school little bit about how they do funds
23:17 rue_school they suggest automating everything
23:17 rue_school as far as member operations go
23:18 ^kat^ ok, i didn't kow you needed to automate any members
23:19 ^kat^ fwiw, re Dell monitors: one has the OSD bug, where it randomly pops up the options window, but i discovered if you vice grip ALL the manual buttons in, and superglue them, the puter in the monitor is too busy readng them to pop up that idiot screen
23:21 ^kat^ i used the flash to get a ic of the pod tonite, the smoke made the space look really foggy
23:22 rue_school hehehe
23:23 rue_school next time just use the welder, you can weld behind your back one handed, I'm sure of it.
23:23 rue_school prolly draw a nice bead too
23:24 ^kat^ maybe not, but i can sometimes draw a bead without being able to see it in front of me
23:24 ^kat^ depends on the conditions
23:24 rue_school your supposed to wear a mask when welding :/
23:24 ^kat^ i've had to bend the rod to a U shape and weld the backside of stuff before
23:24 rue_school hah
23:25 rue_school good to keep short sticks around, right?
23:25 ^kat^ if longer than 3" , i never toss them
23:25 rue_school I think it takes about 2 to 3" to get an arc started and be able to lay down some material
23:26 rue_school I'v tried tacking with 1", its gone too fast
23:26 ^kat^ i use the 3" to get several tacks done
23:26 rue_school I have a wire feed now that works, but it sure it messy (flux core)
23:26 rue_school spatterific
23:27 at^
23:27 ^kat^ lower tha amps
23:27 rue_school hmm, ok
23:27 rue_school tho
23:27 rue_school "low, medium, high"
23:27 rue_school and a "1 2" switch
23:27 ^kat^ my wirefeed splattered less on low current, gas shielded, but got impossible to strike the arc
23:28 rue_school and I suppose on/off counts
23:28 rue_school mmm
23:28 rue_school I need to buy a tank for shielded gas
23:28 ^kat^ it did nice on 40amps , using the growlbox for arc power
23:28 rue_school $100/yr over 3 years for $40 in material sucks
23:31 rue_school did you know nema tried to make its own set of logic gate symbols?
23:34 ^kat^ no
23:34 ^kat^ why?
23:34 rue_school good question
23:37 ^kat^ thanks :-)
23:50 ^kat^ <cough>
23:51 rue_school welcome, I'm reading a code book, its... dry
23:53 ^kat^ oh
23:55 rue_school ok, I'm gonna sleep
23:55 ^kat^ k
23:55 ^kat^ gnites
23:55 rue_school gnight
23:57 ^kat^ hmm, i somehow borked exploder
