00:18 any22949943 The X-51 then accelerated to Mach 5.1 and flew for 210 seconds until running out of fuel.
00:18 any22949943 uhhhhhh
00:19 any22949943 at 760 mph, M5.1 is 64 miles per sec , so 210 seconds is 13,440 miles, in 3.68 minutes
00:19 zhanx Wow
00:20 any22949943 at 60mph on the highway, 3.68 minutes is 3,68 miles, not 13,440 miles
00:20 any22949943 i wonder if it can turn
00:21 zhanx Slowly I bet
00:22 any22949943 they wanna make it big enough to carry a 250 SDB, at 200,000ft, and stay at M5 or above
00:22 any22949943 might not be enough air at 200k ft to turn with
00:25 any22949943 hell of a note to say a B1 launched from Hawaii can take out all of China in 2 sec plus however fast they can spin the magazine inside the aircraft
00:31 any22949943 punching a 250lb sdb thru any hardened silo or sub pen in a mountainside, beats trying to pound thru it with a nuke, and at 64 miles per second it will be spectacularly hard to defend aganst
00:32 any22949943 well, forget that, it was canceled yesterday?
00:32 any22949943 21 May 2013
00:32 any22949943 The High Speed Strike Weapon (HSSW) Demonstration requirement, BAA-RWK-2013-0002, at the Air Force Research Laboratory, Munitions Directorate, Contracting Division (AFRL/RWK), Eglin AFB, FL, has been Cancelled.
00:33 any22949943 or yesterday yrs ago

00:35 any22949943 The U.S. Air Force is making progress in developing a hypersonic weapon based on the success of an experimental scramjet program, engineers said.
00:36 any22949943 but it's not at Elgin, it's at Edwards, Elgin is flight school for the F35
00:48 any22949943 Gates killed the laser project in the 747-400 in 2009, the usaf now wants to put a laser into C-17's at Kirtland, ground firings to start later this yr
00:48 any22949943 what's that shrinkwrap they use on planes at Davis-Monthan?
00:51 zhanx Never been there
01:51 any22949943 http://imgur.com/gallery/1zVn6Hi
01:53 rue_house after the first use you need to put baby powder in the pans to get the aluminum out
02:02 any22949943 i haven't seen it yet, haveto dl it, then move it tot he laptop, then see it in vlc
02:03 any22949943 cannot move it directly, haveto move it thru a 3rd puter
03:39 any22949943 this is pissing me off : http://designerthinking.com/images/DSCF6696m-notes.jpg
03:39 any22949943 it's 4.5 inches from the bottom of the lower bearing to the bottom of the chuck
03:41 any22949943 and that 1/2 inch tapered shaft look absolutely tiny, it's like the spindle that got bent on the big drill press, it's freaking tiny compared to everything else
03:43 rue_bed you have bent it lots of times
03:43 any22949943 so the end of a bit sticking 2" out of the chuck will be 6.5 inches from the lower bearing
03:43 rue_bed hmm
03:43 any22949943 bent it one, then straightened it
03:44 rue_bed I recall it getting bent about 2 or 3 times in a row
03:44 any22949943 umm, i told you about it more than once, i didn't bend it more than once
03:45 any22949943 the spindle with ER25 collets in it is acceptable, the end of the mill bit being 3" from the bottom of the bearing, but the chuck adds 2.5 inches
03:46 any22949943 is it excessive or what?
03:48 y22949943 is seeking words of wisdom about this, pl
11:22 e_house rubs his eyes and tries to
11:22 rue_house sounds excessive
12:47 any54731483 http://designerthinking.com/images/DSCF6696m-notes.jpg
13:06 any54731483 China has a long range plan to develop nuclear power that is cheaper than coal. China will develop its own commercial scale fast reactor in 2023 with a more advanced version in 2030. They will then scale up production as part of a build up to around 400 gigawatts of nuclear power by 2050. This would be four times more than the nuclear power currently in the USA.
13:07 any54731483 Malaysia invests $27-million in Canada's General Fusion startup who will begin building full scale prototype in 2017 . The Burnaby-based company has raised over $100 million to date. http://nextbigfuture.com/2015/05/malaysia-invests-27-million-in-canadas.html
13:08 any54731483 The nearly 200 capacitors that send 10-gigawatt bursts into General Fusion’s machine were “recycled” from an old laser fusion experiment in Los Alamos, California.
18:35 any79183134 http://designerthinking.com/images/DSCF6696m-notes.jpg
18:36 y79183134 wonders if anyone in the usa made memorial sounds at z
18:47 any79183134 local tv reporter says "suprise" , and so spells it that way too
21:06 Tom_itx rue what's equivalent to a batch file in linux?
21:07 Tom_itx cd to directory
21:07 Tom_itx run a settings.sh
21:07 Tom_itx and execute the program
21:07 any21952487 Tom, what thoghts you have on http://designerthinking.com/images/DSCF6696m-notes.jpg ?
21:07 Tom_itx should be ok
21:08 Tom_itx it's got no side load
21:08 any21952487 the bottom of the chuck being so farf fromt he lower bearing?
21:08 any21952487 true
21:08 Tom_itx how far is your drill press from the bearing when it's extended?
21:09 any21952487 unless i wannt adink to mark some steel, and the bit walks
21:09 any21952487 huh?
21:09 any21952487 the bearings remain in the drill press at all times
21:10 Tom_itx the quill extends out
21:10 any21952487 no
21:10 any21952487 or do you mean on an actual drill press?
21:10 Tom_itx yeah
21:10 any21952487 i havem't measured
21:10 Tom_itx it's similar
21:11 any21952487 hmm,, i get the feeling i wasted money on on tis drill chuck, at least for this project
21:12 Tom_itx i don't see any bearings there
21:12 any21952487 see the red ink?
21:13 any21952487 see the blue ink?
21:13 any21952487 the red has red type in a white box
21:13 any21952487 the bearing is in the oem sealed package
21:13 any21952487 it's bottom edge is where the blue line is
21:14 Tom_itx oh
21:14 Tom_itx hell i didn't eve see that before
21:15 any21952487 the spindle below the blue line can seat a 206 bearing, but those are some sloppy bearings, and very large OD too
21:15 any21952487 and if the Inner race collapses into the wrench flats on the spindle, it will never come off
21:16 any21952487 but doing that will lower the bearing an inch closer to the work
21:23 Tom_itx you could try it, it looks ok to me
21:23 Tom_itx but i've never built one
21:23 any21952487 k
21:24 Tom_itx i usually design by the seat of my pants
21:24 any21952487 your pants feel ok about that chuck in a small mill?
21:25 Tom_itx so long as it has no side load
21:26 Tom_itx it would be good if the bearing had a shoulder to butt against i think
21:27 any21952487 i agree, i have a clamp-collar i can put on the spindle, but those aren't thrust bearings, but they are dual-row
21:27 any21952487 the outer race will be in a seat in the tube
