01:18 rue_shop3 ?
01:18 rue_shop3 is tigger awake? I'd like some quick answers if possable
01:21 rue_shop3 nope drat
01:21 rue_shop3 moc3010, 3021, 3020, or 3022 are not zero voltage corssing
01:23 rue_shop3 would you beleive it? I have _1_ moc 3040 and its burned out one way
01:27 rue_shop3 this cant be true
01:27 rue_shop3 I have, somewhere, an opto isolated induction motor driver
01:27 e_shop3 climbs into a box of circuit baords and starts throwing out all the wrong
01:28 rue_shop3 ?
01:28 rue_shop3 SOC764A
03:01 rue_shop3 I'm sure there is a music sequence that would cause me to mentally segfault, I hope I dont come across it by accident
05:20 rue_shop3 "compatibility.h: No such file or directory"
05:20 rue_shop3 thats one for the books

17:38 katsmeow-afk The first English printing press, in the 15th century, was operated by Belgians who didn’t know the language and made numerous spelling errors (such as "busy" in place of "bisy").
17:38 katsmeow-afk And because they were paid by the line, they sometimes padded words with extra letters; "frend," for example, became "friend."
17:40 katsmeow-afk Ultimately, about one out of every five English speakers are functionally illiterate, meaning they "cannot read or write well enough for everyday literacy needs,"
17:40 katsmeow-afk Maybe they’ve learned enough to cope with simple items such as menus—but they still struggle with deciphering lengthy prose passages and reading important documents such as medicine warnings.
17:40 katsmeow-afk ; three-quarters of welfare recipients fall into this category.
17:41 katsmeow-afk hell, no one i know would know what "prose" is
17:41 katsmeow-afk which is why i visit here a lot :-)
18:46 rue_shop3 I passed the test, I'm a securrity systems tech, registered!
18:47 rue_shop3 isn't it nice to be around smart people you dont have to explain everrrrry thing to
18:48 rue_shop3 (I'm padding)
18:49 rue_shop3 sweeet, the tractor thread I designed for the 3d printer works
18:49 tsmeow-afk pats rue on his back firmly in a congratulatory fas
18:50 katsmeow-afk and here's a milkshake to go with it!
18:57 rue_shop3 do wish you would hang out in #robotics
18:57 rue_shop3 even if you dotn want to say anything
18:58 katsmeow-afk it's what others say to me that bothers me
18:58 katsmeow-afk i don't recall much going on in #robotics except personal bashing
18:59 katsmeow-afk is it better now?
18:59 tsmeow-afk wold like to have a pcb driller again, since she needs one, and all you guys have milling machines and lathes and 3D prin
19:05 rue_shop3 no fair, I made my printer back in 1999
19:06 rue_shop3 er cnc
19:06 e_shop3 looks at his cnc, geez, 16 years ol
19:06 katsmeow-afk k
19:08 rue_shop3 I still have to write CAM software for it
19:09 rue_shop3 it seems that there are no free cam programs for making up g-code
19:09 rue_shop3 from, say a dxf
19:09 katsmeow-afk just being able to drive the steppers directly, in str8 lines and circles, would be handy
19:09 rue_shop3 it can, I have a custom language thats roughly based on g-code
19:10 katsmeow-afk good for you, i don't have the machine any more, it had "pink" components in it
19:11 rue_shop3 turn cutter on/off, set x, y, or z, 2d line to x,y (I dont think I could work out 3 axis lines at the time), arc using current point as a start and specify the centre and angle
19:11 rue_shop3 beep and or wait for user to hit enter, print message
19:11 tsmeow-afk looks at the f
19:11 rue_shop3 you can do it, you have to dial up the ... arrogance? and ignore what people say
19:12 rue_shop3 to hell with them, its your project
19:12 katsmeow-afk be antisocial?
19:12 rue_shop3 yup
19:12 rue_shop3 I suppose
19:12 rue_shop3 but ..
19:12 rue_shop3 I want to know about what your up to
19:13 katsmeow-afk that sorta defeats the purpose of being born
19:13 rue_shop3 lots of itneresting proejcts
19:13 rue_shop3 society has interesting contradictions
19:13 katsmeow-afk most are stalled until i get aboard boat, because most have red/pink parts, like led displays, knobs, wiring
19:15 rue_shop3 arg, I'm getting tired again
19:15 rue_shop3 I slept in till 12
19:15 rue_shop3 then again I was up till 5
19:15 rue_shop3 am
19:16 katsmeow-afk i can't tell you , i forget the words, how it affected me to reject my projects because of the color,, and how deeply it had to bother me to see the projects destroyed in words, that i destroyed it with a cutting torch too, so i wouldn't ever see it again
19:20 rue_shop3 what do I do with 50lbs of extra computer power cords?
19:20 katsmeow-afk i once made a *nice* chain maille shirt, and matching coif, ground the joints, soldered, re-ground and polished, took me months, same things happened as with the driller, i took months of detailed work and sold it as 85 cents scrap
19:21 rue_shop3 why did n't you just keep it?
19:21 katsmeow-afk because all of humanity had taken time to devalue it
19:22 katsmeow-afk when they ground me down to we i was on the edge of tears every time i looked at it, i got rid of it all
19:24 katsmeow-afk all that beautiful work, months, was worth 85 cents or less
19:24 Tom_itx well crap all i can find is a latching relay
19:24 katsmeow-afk like my pcb driller, all that careful measuring, welding, design, moving parts, etc
19:24 Tom_itx i need it to be normal
19:25 katsmeow-afk Tom, so rewire it so latched = off
19:26 Tom_itx it flips then requires another set of pins to reset
19:26 katsmeow-afk then your de-latch pulse will turn whatever on
19:26 Tom_itx omron G5AK 237P
19:27 katsmeow-afk sorry
19:27 Tom_itx i've only got one io available
19:27 Tom_itx it is a dpdt
19:28 Tom_itx maybe i could use the spdt to reset the other coil?
19:28 Tom_itx i only need one side of it
19:29 Tom_itx i only need it for a short pulse
19:29 tsmeow-afk thinks of the driller and chain maille gods telling her she cannot have a garden and plays solit
19:29 Tom_itx or will that not work like i think it will
19:33 Tom_itx kat is it possible to wire a dpdt like that?
19:33 katsmeow-afk i think if you do, you will have both set and reset coils energised at the same time
19:34 Tom_itx for a sort period yes
19:34 Tom_itx that's my concern
19:34 Tom_itx but i might get a sort pulse out of the other contact to drive what i need pulsed
19:34 Tom_itx i've got it set for a 50ms pulse from the control
19:35 Tom_itx i just don't know if it would blow something
19:35 katsmeow-afk if your set pulse is shorter than your reset, then using the NO contacts to trigger a reset when pulled in, you should be ok
19:35 Tom_itx i swear i have some other relays but i can't find them anywhere
19:36 Tom_itx i need to figure out how to wire that up now
19:36 katsmeow-afk i just told ya
19:36 Tom_itx yeah i know
19:36 Tom_itx i have a bad headache and can't think straight right now
19:36 Tom_itx i have several of these so if i fuck one up i don't care
19:36 katsmeow-afk but if your set is still active when the reset ends, it may pull in again, i dunno the relay characteristics irl
19:37 Tom_itx i'll try it later.
19:37 katsmeow-afk you might try wiring the set thru NC contacts
19:37 katsmeow-afk that may use up all your contacts tho
19:38 katsmeow-afk got two optoisolators?
19:38 Tom_itx i can get the relay i need from china pretty cheap
19:38 Tom_itx i don't think so
19:38 Tom_itx i just didn't wanna wait on china
19:39 Tom_itx thanks for the input...
19:39 katsmeow-afk maybe you can do it with opamps
19:40 Tom_itx i wanna KISS
19:40 katsmeow-afk wire so 1 fires set, 0 fires reset
19:40 Tom_itx if i can't figure this out i'll get a relay
19:40 katsmeow-afk k
19:40 Tom_itx i gotta go rest my head
19:40 katsmeow-afk i think the latching may bite you anyhow, because most are not meant to be contunually powered
19:41 katsmeow-afk if you keep reset powerd, it may burn out
19:41 Tom_itx it wouldn't be
19:41 Tom_itx just a short pulse
19:41 katsmeow-afk k
19:41 katsmeow-afk [19:15] <katsmeow-afk> if your set pulse is shorter than your reset, then using the NO contacts to trigger a reset when pulled in, you should be ok
19:42 tsmeow-afk hands Tom some nasal s
19:42 katsmeow-afk i'll need that back, i feel i many need it tonite
19:45 katsmeow-afk i did something similar with my electric car: i used a shorting-type multipole rotary conected to the go pedal, and used very fast small relays to sort out timing and which power contactor got energised
19:46 katsmeow-afk basically, if a higher priority small relay got pulled in, no relay under it got power, and so fell out, depowering it's contactor, made power switching fairly instant, up past the 1000amp max meter reading anyhoo
19:47 katsmeow-afk circa 1975-76
19:47 katsmeow-afk VW beatle, golf cart motor, 36v and later 48v battery pack
20:37 katsmeow-afk http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2015/02/150209-tornado-smoke-aerosol-storm-wind/
21:28 rue_shop3 2.5 hours for 6 treadles
21:31 Tom_itx rue_shop3, have you ever gotten any of those cheap relay modules 'made for' arduino off ebay?
21:54 rue_shop3 not a relay module no
21:55 rue_shop3 they obviously stick 'arduino' on anything to make it sell
21:56 katsmeow-afk ignore the ratings of the relays, "contact rating" may be 10x what the wiring to the contacts is rated for
21:56 Tom_itx well they're prety cheap
21:57 Tom_itx i just wondered if they were any good
21:57 Tom_itx it's not switching any load...
21:57 Tom_itx just a signal
21:57 katsmeow-afk as signal relays, sure, not so much over an amp
21:57 Tom_itx well they say they're rated for 10A
21:57 katsmeow-afk don't believe them
21:58 Tom_itx never have
21:58 Tom_itx nice thing about those is they're opto isolated already
21:58 katsmeow-afk ok, some are, some aren't
21:59 katsmeow-afk ummm,,, if they are isolated, where does the power come from to pull in the relay?
21:59 Tom_itx supplied power from the controller
22:00 katsmeow-afk the arduino?
22:00 Tom_itx yes
22:00 katsmeow-afk then it's not so much isolated
22:00 Tom_itx the signal is
22:00 Tom_itx from emf from the relay coil
22:01 katsmeow-afk but you can blow the arduino with spikes on the +12
22:01 katsmeow-afk either way, you can hack it to eliminate these problems
22:20 rue_shop3 whats a charged nicad V?
22:20 katsmeow-afk 1.2 generally, 1.4 for the super versions
22:21 rue_shop3 I thought 1.2 was nominal
22:21 katsmeow-afk it is
22:22 katsmeow-afk but there's some D cells that take charges to 1.4v, and deliver 3 or 4 amphrs
22:22 katsmeow-afk they deliver squat whwn charged to 1.2v
22:22 katsmeow-afk i mean ONLY the super cells, not regular cells
22:23 rue_shop3 A fully charged single Ni–Cd cell, under no load, carries a potential difference of between 1.25 and 1.35 volts
22:23 rue_shop3 but thats just from wikipedia
22:23 katsmeow-afk fresh off the charger, normal nicad, yeas
22:24 katsmeow-afk 1.25 idling the next day
22:25 katsmeow-afk http://www.thebatterystop.com/Battery-For-Makita-1422
22:28 rue_shop3 its a black an decker drill, 12V
22:28 rue_shop3 ""
22:28 rue_shop3 its been unscrewing printers for 4 hours
22:29 rue_shop3 battery dieing, imagine that?
22:29 katsmeow-afk 6ft leads to a small lead acid, mine runs for days :-P
22:31 katsmeow-afk http://www.allbatteries.co.uk/open-nicd-battery-sph130-1-4v-130ah-amn7409.html
22:38 katsmeow-afk wel, i was going to take apic of the battery pack i made using those hi-capacity cells ~1987, but i don't see the battery
22:40 katsmeow-afk i think poele did not buy enough of the 1.4v to keep them iin business, since they won't recharge on regular nicad rechargers
22:41 katsmeow-afk this thread mentions them : http://www.edcforums.com/threads/hi-cap-ni-cads.49315/
