10:02 Tom_itx i didn't even get an email for christmas
10:03 katsmeow-afk i considered snailmail, but was afraid it would be inappropriate and cause problems, what witht he current state of human evolution

10:06 katsmeow-afk i have yet to see any fruit cake this yr, but i have been in a store only 3x in Dec
10:06 katsmeow-afk and the car parts store usually doesn't have fruit cake anyhow

10:12 katsmeow-afk SEBASTIAN STANT: I feel like the sky's the limit right now, and when I was at college, the limit was 4.0. And, like, here it's, like, if I work hard enough, like, I can pretty much, like, accomplish, like, what I’m trying to do. Like.
10:13 katsmeow-afk DANIEL KLAUS: Sebastian in particular has done a great job of sort of, like, grabbing onto a task, learning about it, asking for input, having -- you know, receiving input as we go, and learning along the way. So it's actually been really productive for us. You know. Like.

10:28 Tom_itx no, just catching up on paperwork
12:32 katsmeow-afk too cold to paint upstairs
12:42 katsmeow-afk "In related news, Ms Jones is contesting the ruling against her in the National Spelling Bee, on the basis of the actual question asked, which was: 'How do you spell "cow"', to which she answered 'coue'. Ms Jones points out she was not asked how everyone else spells it, and so she answered truthfully and correctly."
12:44 katsmeow-afk "a famous farmer, Mr McDonald, supports her, saying he spells 'cow' as 'c-o-w,e-i,e-i,o'."

14:07 katsmeow-afk "i call it 'Dog', it's a distributed robot, made up of ideas from several animals found in nature, the arrows are it's teeth, they respond individually and quietly to same power. So you see, it's not a random series of boobytraps, as you call it."
14:07 katsmeow-afk same=save
14:07 katsmeow-afk "the sign does say 'Beware of Dog'"
14:12 katsmeow-afk "yeas judge, Dog does look like http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/UZgQUoEJEdw/maxresdefault.jpg , but that is not the entire robot"
14:14 katsmeow-afk "just like any natural dog, Dog has 50 teeth like http://mikeshouts.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Mini-Crossbow-544x311px.jpg , causing whatever it bites to look like http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b128/JuriV/Mini%20crossbow/Kumikarhu2.jpg "
14:16 katsmeow-afk "i realise a crossbow is not a natural part of any organic dog, but you cannot hold me responsible for the shortcomings and bad designs of the organic dog. Sir."

15:02 katsmeow-afk there , <cue the orchestral thunder> stuff has been cut out and clamped together for welding </cue>
15:35 tsmeow-afk settles for the flat paint, since she is out of gloss black s
16:20 rue_house merry christmas kat
16:20 rue_house even if you have to forgoet about everything around you for a min to feel it
16:37 tsmeow-afk plops down for a min to say th
16:39 katsmeow-afk big shelf
16:42 rue_house did you make a big shelf?
16:42 katsmeow-afk working on it
16:43 katsmeow-afk steel angle, 2x4 lumber, someting to hold a 100lbs of scope etc
16:44 katsmeow-afk the desks here has been U shaped, almost closed at the open end, the shef hanging from the ceiling hasn't been
16:45 tsmeow-afk assumed you went to Lola's for a nice
16:45 katsmeow-afk just make sure you don't become her 3rd means of support
16:46 rue_house I did, I'm back
16:46 rue_house I got the parting tool I got off ebay, I'm gonna go play
16:46 rue_house in a bit
16:47 katsmeow-afk hacha going topart?
16:47 katsmeow-afk my paws are tired
16:47 rue_house see if it works better than the one I made
16:47 katsmeow-afk proper sturdy ridgis holding pedistal is half the tool
16:47 rue_house parting tools have just enough corners and edges to make them difficult to make
16:48 katsmeow-afk grinding tools :-)
16:48 rue_house if my dove tail bit handn't shattered while I was making it, I'da been ok
16:48 katsmeow-afk err,,,, dovetail bit on steel??
16:48 rue_house it was a wood bit, which was fine till I over-jogged
16:48 rue_house carbide
16:48 rue_house carbide is carbide
16:49 katsmeow-afk still, worng bevel, i think
16:49 rue_house steel, wood, whatever
16:49 rue_house the pitch was a bit high, bit it was fine
16:49 katsmeow-afk you can use carbide wood saw blade on aluminum too, but it will chatter like hell
16:49 rue_house I just jogged a little past where I was supposed to
16:49 tsmeow-afk
16:49 rue_house yea, wrong rpm
16:50 rue_house it went *tink* and dropped into the tray
16:50 rue_house and I went FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFffffffffffffffFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFffffffffffFFFFFFFFFFFFFFffffffffffffff
16:50 katsmeow-afk pricey "tink", i hoped you recorded it so you don't need to break another one
16:50 rue_house it was a free bit
16:50 katsmeow-afk ummm,, ok
16:50 rue_house I ahve to buy the replacement tho
16:51 katsmeow-afk yeas
16:52 rue_house I got some human control grade encoder knobs from ebay
16:52 rue_house er alibaba
16:52 rue_house detents,
16:52 rue_house pushbutton
16:52 katsmeow-afk pic?
16:53 rue_house 21 detents I think
16:53 rue_house try that again...
16:53 rue_house http://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/303168659.html
16:53 rue_house oh I counted 0 twice
16:53 katsmeow-afk that;s not a knob
16:54 rue_house ok
16:54 rue_house http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Wholesale-12mm-Rotary-Encoder-Switch-W-Keyswitch-HQ-new-free-shipping/1371732850.html
16:54 katsmeow-afk but yeas, they have them on ebay too, they are not fine control, if you wanna click it 156 times, it's 10 full turns
16:54 rue_house same, right?
16:54 katsmeow-afk err, 256
16:55 rue_house a person could have it 10x the click rate when pushed in
16:55 katsmeow-afk true
16:55 rue_house I was thinking of making it controls for the new power supply
16:55 rue_house and using a digital pot
16:55 rue_house that way it could be controlled via serial port too
16:56 tsmeow-afk
16:56 rue_house I have to get the converter modules to know more about what I'm working with
16:57 katsmeow-afk convertor modules?
16:57 rue_house http://www.ebay.ca/itm/350869951366
16:57 rue_house I'm making a new power supply based on two of those
16:57 rue_house http://www.ebay.ca/itm/291015063681
16:57 rue_house I got that to feed them
16:58 rue_house I wasn't going to spend that much, but when I saw the prices of official bench supplies I realized I'm still getting off really cheap
16:59 katsmeow-afk 30amp stepdown, feeding two 5amp variables?
16:59 rue_house I'm using the 36V, 10A one
16:59 rue_house $37
16:59 katsmeow-afk oh,, right
16:59 katsmeow-afk umm, 36v is more than the lil ones aare rated at
17:00 rue_house I do NOT expect I can get 5A from those modules, but I dont expect that main can do 10A either :)
17:00 katsmeow-afk true
17:00 rue_house output adjustable
17:00 tsmeow-afk
17:00 rue_house there is a little pot at the edge of the connector strip
17:00 katsmeow-afk why not vary the big one and skip the lil ones?
17:00 rue_house my current supply is 24V, 1A, so this is still better
17:00 rue_house 2 output
17:00 tsmeow-afk
17:00 rue_house and the little ones are current AND voltage regulated
17:01 tsmeow-afk
17:01 rue_house http://www.ebay.ca/itm/350684030654 and http://www.ebay.ca/itm/151062816087 dress it out nice
17:02 rue_house odd...
17:02 tsmeow-afk has a question, regarding th remoteness of the digital controls, why not digital displ
17:05 katsmeow-afk i do not see the physical dims of the voltmeter
17:06 rue_house ooh, the two volt meters have arrived, not the ammeters
17:06 rue_house I got 2 volt and 2 ammeter
17:06 rue_house its small, 1.75" square
17:06 rue_house (face)
17:07 katsmeow-afk i hope it is same size as ammmmmmmert too
17:07 rue_house yes
17:07 rue_house same series meter
17:07 tsmeow-afk
17:07 katsmeow-afk 4:50pm, sun is going down, after it finally got up to 50f
17:08 katsmeow-afk i shold go out and gather more 2x4 inside for the shelf
17:08 katsmeow-afk i wanna use the older ones from the roof planters, they are discollored, but i won't see that up under the shelf
17:09 katsmeow-afk ttyl ?
17:09 rue_house ok
17:09 rue_house I'll go play with my parting tool
18:07 tsmeow-afk hasto stop for
19:09 rue_shop3 parting tools works grear
19:09 rue_shop3 t
19:09 rue_shop3 tigger, specs for 2n6488
19:16 katsmeow-afk she isn't here
19:16 katsmeow-afk i'll ask
19:16 katsmeow-afk 2N6488= [!what][!electronics][!device] Material:NPN Si ; Use:med pwr ; Device:trans. ; Vceo:80V ; Current:15A ; PwrDis:75W ; Gain:20-150 ; Freq:5 MHz- ; Case:TO-220
19:17 katsmeow-afk fwiw, the 2n6388 is a darlington version of that transistor, i have used a few 100 of them
19:19 katsmeow-afk i drove relays, air selenoids 48vdc with them, ttl chips can drive them easily
19:29 rue_shop3 hmm ok
19:30 rue_shop3 so the 6488~= 2n3055
19:30 rue_shop3 T
19:30 katsmeow-afk yeas
19:30 katsmeow-afk the 2n3055t is still 15amps tho
19:30 katsmeow-afk just lower dissipation than the TO-3 version
19:34 katsmeow-afk 2N3055= [!what][!electronics][!device] Material:NPN Si ; Use:power ; Device:trans. ; Vceo:60V ; Current:15A ; PwrDis:115W ; Gain:20-70 ; Freq:2.5 MHz- ; Case:TO-3
19:34 katsmeow-afk she doesn't have the T listed
19:35 katsmeow-afk TIP3055= [!what][!electronics][!device] Material:NPN Si ; Use:med pwr ; Device:trans. ; Vceo:60V ; Current:15A ; PwrDis:90W ; Gain:20-100 ; Freq:2.5 Mhz- ; Case:TO-247 TO-3P
19:40 katsmeow-afk i wish i knew if the 12v ones on http://www.ebay.com/itm/291015063681 could be goosed up to 14.5v or more
20:03 rue_shop3 how about a 24V one adjusted down?
20:04 rue_shop3 I'll tell you how the quality test goes when I get mine?
20:32 Tom_itx merry christmas yall
20:36 katsmeow-afk well, the 12v@30a is the same price (or cheaper) than the 24v@16a
20:47 tsmeow-afk needs 5 very small lite bases for hiding cfl under the new s
21:00 katsmeow-afk http://www.homedepot.com/p/Leviton-Black-Weatherproof-Socket-R60-00055-000/100356874
21:01 katsmeow-afk i have a feeling i will need to sand some of the rubber off it, but that's ok
21:02 katsmeow-afk prolly be somewhat better to blow $1 more and get some with individual switches on them, but those are an inch longer too
21:13 katsmeow-afk i found one, i think the rest got left in Fla
21:18 rue_house oh that reminds, me I need a connector for my welder
21:18 rue_house I have 5 nice big motor drivers now, I'm getting excted
21:18 rue_house 3 more not finished assembly
21:18 katsmeow-afk which connector?
21:20 katsmeow-afk i got tired of the weld current ones on the growelbox coming loose inside, and so i clamped on pvc pipe bushings, ran the cable inside, soldering it into eye terminals, and bolting the things down with lockwashers and stuff
21:21 katsmeow-afk the oem aluminum wiring inside broke connection the same way it does in house wiring when thermally cycled
21:23 katsmeow-afk sometimes, ya just gotta stop and redesign your tools so they keep working, instead of fixing them
21:24 katsmeow-afk the way the truck perked up after i re-wired the fuel pump, makes me think the oem electronic injector pump fired it's controlelr so oftenbecause it was constantly trying to compensate for not getting a regular supply of fuel
21:25 katsmeow-afk problem is for me, the oem fuel injector still sells in the $800 ballpark, with no guarantees , and without the controller for it
21:28 katsmeow-afk i really have 7/8 of a mind to break the line to each injector, install a T and a needle valve connected to a rc servo, then set the mechanical injector to wide open as it will go, and have an avr adjust the needle valves (how much each one dumps excess fuel)
21:29 katsmeow-afk so fuly closed is climbing a mountain with heavy load and full turbo at 2500rpm
21:30 katsmeow-afk then anything less than that, open the needle valve (the injector pump will back off some too)
21:47 katsmeow-afk http://www.ebay.com/itm/Diesel-Fuel-Injection-Pump-94-02-GM-Chevy-6-5L-DS-electronic-QUALITY-Reman-/270813494139
21:54 rue_house if your going to keep the tuck, rebuild it to be easier to maintin with available parts
21:58 rue_shop3 kat, does tigger know ECG54
22:02 Tom_itx motor drivers for what?
22:05 katsmeow-afk yeas, the 1998 parts are dying and getting rare
22:05 katsmeow-afk iirc, i intentionally did not tell her about ECG trash
22:06 katsmeow-afk note, she doesn't have it
22:06 katsmeow-afk ECG started as floor sweepings, they did a *lot* of bad cross-references to good companies
22:07 katsmeow-afk it was not unusual to find the ecg part had wrong pinouts, and metal cases for to-92's, the wrong gain, darlingtons what were not supposed to be, etc
22:09 katsmeow-afk i figure replacing a 1997 mechanical 6.4L injector pump someone installed on a 1998 6.5L with $50 in pluming parts and a $3 avr will prolly scare some people
22:10 katsmeow-afk actually, it will need at least 9 different pwm outputs, 8 for injector dump controls and one for the turbo
22:42 tsmeow-afk has a Los Alamos tektronix plugin, still has the calibration sticker from 1979 <cough
22:42 katsmeow-afk there's plugins with cal stickers from Huntsville, IBM Watson research park, NASA, etc
22:50 rue_shop3 2sd1273
22:51 rue_shop3 got it,
22:51 rue_shop3 NPN
22:51 rue_shop3 6A 80V, hfe
22:51 rue_shop3 500-2500
22:52 katsmeow-afk 2SD1273= [!what][!electronics][!device] Material:NPN Si ; Use:med pwr ; Device:trans. ; Vceo:80V ; Current:3A ; PwrDis:40W ; Gain:500-2500 ; Freq:~50 MHz ; Case:TO-220F
22:52 katsmeow-afk 2SD1273A= [!what][!electronics][!device] Material:NPN Si ; Use:med pwr ; Device:trans. ; Vceo:100V ; Current:3A ; PwrDis:40W ; Gain:500-2500 ; Freq:~50 MHz ; Case:TO-220
22:52 rue_shop3 1V sat
22:52 rue_shop3 oooo
22:52 rue_shop3 oh yea, 6A is the peak
22:52 rue_shop3 I misread
22:52 katsmeow-afk 1v isn't that great
22:53 rue_shop3 no, but I hve the two I need
22:53 rue_shop3 is D2012 better?
22:54 rue_shop3 60V NPN, 3A
22:54 rue_shop3 Vsat 0.4-1V
22:54 rue_shop3 hfe 100-320
22:54 rue_shop3 so I'd say its marginally better
22:55 katsmeow-afk 2SD2012= [!what][!electronics][!device] Material:NPN Si ; Use:med pwr ; Device:trans. ; Vceo:60V ; Current:3A ; PwrDis:25W ; Gain:100-320 ; Freq:3 Mhz ; Case:2-10R1A
22:55 rue_shop3 I'll use these up next them
23:00 rue_shop3 damn, thats the 3rd 5/64" bit I'v lost this week
23:03 katsmeow-afk lost?
23:05 katsmeow-afk nother sticker from Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory
23:08 rue_shop3 damn, i lost the 4-40 tap on that one too :(
23:12 katsmeow-afk that's why i bolt-thru everything now
23:14 katsmeow-afk if you have a industrial supply place, yo can get 10 packs of bits at a good discount
23:15 katsmeow-afk whoa, lots of $20 320G pata drives on ebay now
