00:02 rue_house want the raw video?
00:02 katsmeow-afk huh?
00:03 katsmeow-afk what if the t13 did not get a clock for 40ms, thenit can do it's reset, and then start listening for a clk pulse to do the adc?
00:04 rue_house p1040846
00:04 katsmeow-afk or even 500ms
00:04 rue_house p1040848
00:04 katsmeow-afk p1040846?
00:04 rue_house want the orig mov file?
00:05 katsmeow-afk what will i see onit?
00:05 rue_house same thing as youtube, but
00:05 katsmeow-afk this is getting awefully complicated
00:05 rue_house 14mb?
00:06 rue_house youtube not support your browser anymore?
00:06 katsmeow-afk correct
00:06 rue_house yea, thats getting annoying
00:06 katsmeow-afk google bought them, they support only chrome now
00:06 rue_house yea, I'm not getting chome either
00:06 rue_house vimeo sucks
00:07 rue_house can you play vimeo videos
00:07 rue_house ?
00:07 katsmeow-afk so why can't the t13 do it's reset thing if it does NOT get a clock for some long time?
00:07 katsmeow-afk i have not tried
00:07 rue_house ok, recap
00:07 rue_house cause I'm mixing things up
00:08 rue_house method a) might be to have a host controller provide long clock pulses to the slave t13's with a sync pulse that is longer to ensure proper bit framing
00:09 rue_house method b) would be to have the t13's push out the clock and data to 164 chips, that connect to the displays
00:09 rue_house uh, thats the summary of my last conclusions
00:09 rue_house its your project, I'm just throwing in suggestions
00:09 katsmeow-afk i am trying to make it so stupid it has no bit framing
00:10 rue_house if the t13's generate the segment data, there is no framing
00:10 katsmeow-afk wth is "segment data" ?
00:10 rue_house if it goes out serial data, there needs to be... dejavu
00:10 rue_house dejvu
00:10 rue_house dejavu
00:11 rue_house 8-|
00:11 katsmeow-afk huh?
00:11 rue_house uh, that was strange
00:11 rue_house pardon me
00:12 rue_house the proposal is that the t13 generate data that goes directly to the '164's (like in the youtube video) to drive the 7 segs
00:12 rue_house 24 bits burst at, say, 60Hz
00:13 rue_house I wonder if I'm sensitive to tempolar paradoxes resolving themselvs
00:14 rue_house temporal
00:14 katsmeow-afk i dr4w a pic, uploading now
00:14 rue_house :)
00:15 rue_house my pic looks like t13->opto(x2)->74164(x3)->7seg(x3)
00:16 rue_house the t13 reads the sample, scales it, converts it to segments, and transmitts it to the 164
00:16 rue_house 'a
00:16 rue_house 's
00:18 katsmeow-afk http://designerthinking.com/images/Tek-design/DSCF6493.jpg
00:19 katsmeow-afk that is all the t13 needs to function
00:19 katsmeow-afk if it needs more "resets", put them in under "LOOP"
00:20 katsmeow-afk see? stupidly simple
00:21 rue_bed yes, I worry cause the framing isn't garunteed
00:22 katsmeow-afk what framing?? get clock, send a bit
00:22 rue_bed if a clock pulse goes wrong, the system sits on edge till reset
00:22 rue_bed yea, what bit where you just sent?
00:22 katsmeow-afk in any system, if clock goes wrong, it will be bad
00:22 rue_bed what if something causes a fake clock pulse somewehre
00:23 katsmeow-afk i wasn't counting the clocks, i set a HC161 to 6 and counted up till overflow :-/
00:23 rue_bed in what I'm talking about you would get 1 bad reading, 1/60 the display is wrong
00:24 katsmeow-afk then in the next reading in 1/20 of a sec, it's read again and gets the correct reading
00:24 rue_bed but if you inject an extra pulse into that drawing, it'll always be out by 1 bit
00:24 katsmeow-afk i wont
00:25 rue_bed what if a magnetic pulse does from a project
00:25 rue_bed stray ion
00:26 katsmeow-afk what if it gets run over by a ww1 russian army tank?
00:27 katsmeow-afk if it gets a bad pulse, it will be from a bad opto, i can guarantee good non-glitch pulses into it, and i can stabilse the hell outa the pwr and limit the adc line
00:27 katsmeow-afk if the opto is going bad, no amount of cleaning will help it, it will just fail
00:27 rue_bed ok
00:28 rue_bed so, the 164's clock out the data into 16 bits that 3 roms deocde to 7 segment?
00:29 katsmeow-afk on both the current and the volts, the sense resistor will be buffered from the t13 by an opamp anyhow
00:29 rue_bed or do a scanning thing with a rom and a .. 4017?
00:29 katsmeow-afk no
00:30 rue_bed how do you want to (10 bit) serial -> 7 seg?
00:31 katsmeow-afk the t13 is clocked thru a opto to a 164(s - 2 of them, 10 bits), the 164 feeds ONE 8k rom wit 10 addy lines, the 8k raom has 13 addy line, i clock the other 3 addy lines to sleect the 3 7-seg patterns
00:31 rue_bed ooo an eeprom could sit in the serial stream as a state machine and convert the 10 bit data to 24 bit sements... hmmmm .,, soryr
00:31 katsmeow-afk the lan avr can input the binary off the 164, or the led pattern or the bcd
00:31 katsmeow-afk yeas
00:31 katsmeow-afk and not only the 24 bits
00:32 rue_bed yea, the other clock being a ripple counter? 4017 to select the 7 seg and operate the rom?
00:32 katsmeow-afk 10 bits plus 3addys is the 24 led pattern, the other 3 upper addy pattern can read out bcd
00:33 katsmeow-afk i have no 4017, i have 160, 161, 162, 163, 269, 279, etc
00:33 rue_bed 164->7208->7447->7 seg
00:33 rue_bed ^ 4017
00:34 rue_bed mmm
00:35 katsmeow-afk you are about this far ->||<- from talking me into tossing it all into the trash
00:36 rue_bed hey, no, I'm just suggesting, and working on understanding what you would like to do
00:36 rue_bed picassos brush
00:36 katsmeow-afk this : http://designerthinking.com/images/Tek-design/DSCF6493.jpg
00:36 rue_bed anything I suggest may be completely unsuitable for your application
00:38 rue_bed shall I see if I can write you the t13 code?
00:40 katsmeow-afk yes
00:45 katsmeow-afk the t13 has a timer, set it after the adc, set it for enough time to have sent all the 10 adc bits in 2x asmuch time as it shold take, if the timer fires, then reset and go back to LOOP, at ALL DONE kill the timer
00:45 katsmeow-afk or reset it, or do something else with it
00:46 katsmeow-afk that way if the system hangs, all the t13 will clear and wait on the system to restart
00:47 katsmeow-afk if there's enough memory, if you wanna, if it will work, i assume you'd use an int to get control back from the loop if the timer fires
00:49 katsmeow-afk the way i feel right now, if the t13 cannot do something this simple, then screw atmel, i can do it with as few chips in descrete parts i already have, including 300 pcs of 20Mhz 10bit video adc chips
01:09 katsmeow-afk i just cleared off the desk of everything related to this project
01:09 katsmeow-afk bbl
03:35 Tom_itx even the t10 works with c under the new compiler now
03:35 Tom_itx i doubt rue is aware of that
03:35 Tom_itx may not be practical but it _does_ work, i've tried it
03:52 Tom_itx i'm not sure how they work the stack with it
04:50 katsmeow-afk did you see the lil flowchart i threw together , Tom ? for dead simple and dead cheap, i don't think i could design any better
04:57 katsmeow-afk one dip-8 micro, one dip-8 optocoupler, one dip-8 single/dual opamp (for offsetting and amplifying and buffering), a to-92 or dip-8 regulator, a couple resistors and caps and diodes (for volt spike snubbing), should come in under $1 in qty, including the pcb
05:02 katsmeow-afk if less options are needed, less cost
05:48 katsmeow-afk FOX6 has learned that a Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's deputy charged with DUI has been involved in at least three other accidents since 2006.
07:59 katsmeow-afk Tom, i threw a few more pics up for amusement, comment if you like

08:16 katsmeow-afk i need a pieceof aluminum, maybe 3/16 thick, an inch long, 3/8 across at one end, and tapered to 1/8 at the other end, like a finger-lever-toggle that i can mount on a 1/4 or 6mm shaft at the fat end
08:17 katsmeow-afk is there something already made, or do i need to make it?
08:19 katsmeow-afk knowingme, i'd prolly mash a 3/16 roll pin into it so i don't need any pins to fasten it on

13:10 katsmeow-afk i think the cat is confused as to which surface of the stairs is the one to walk on, and gravity disagrees
17:03 tsmeow-afk wants to exterminate the crickets, because the earlier they crick, the sooner the sun goes
19:01 katsmeow-afk [21:42] <katsmeow-afk> oh this look like FAIL before it's even downloaded : ACL09-Annoataion Guidelines.pdf

20:30 Lola8088 rue_house, you forgot. :)
20:31 rue_house i know, ... what was it i forgot?
20:31 Lola8088 the pot
20:31 rue_house i know there was something
20:31 rue_house ah drat, k
20:31 Lola8088 No sweat off my back, you can pick it up tomorow
20:32 Tom_itx herbs or cookware?
20:32 rue_house on the drive back i got all caught up in thought after an interesting conversation I had with a builder guy
20:32 rue_house there are two other things I forogto today too, I dont know what they are either
20:33 rue_house hah
20:33 rue_house pot
20:33 rue_house cookware
20:34 Tom_itx :)
20:39 Lola8088 HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA
20:40 Tom_itx it wasn't _that_ funny
20:40 rue_house werw canadian
