15:58 katsmeow-afk we just need Tom to make the fancy lil box faces on the cnc mill
20:52 katsmeow-afk ...
20:58 rue_shop2 some stress at work today
20:59 katsmeow-afk oh?
20:59 rue_shop2 I took my $800 scope to a customers place to diagnose a machine, and during the tests smoked my scope on a mere 77V line
20:59 Lola8088 :(
20:59 rue_shop2 YEA!
20:59 katsmeow-afk ooouuuccchhhh
21:00 rue_shop2 so I opened it up and went thru it, turns out it was just 2 5% resistors, quick fix, everything seems fine
21:00 katsmeow-afk <whew>
21:00 rue_shop2 I still do not know how they got enough current to smoke
21:00 rue_shop2 it vaporized them
21:00 rue_shop2 its a 10M input
21:00 rue_shop2 !?
21:00 katsmeow-afk input attenuator swich setting?
21:00 rue_shop2 one 47R in series with probe and one 33R on the board, also in series, everything after that was ok
21:01 rue_shop2 it should have been at 2 or 5V
21:01 katsmeow-afk floating ground reference?
21:01 rue_shop2 I had it clipped to frame
21:01 rue_shop2 but the 3 power supplies in the device float
21:01 rue_shop2 but only by 12Vac
21:01 rue_shop2 (when a meter is attached)
21:02 rue_shop2 you should see theis machine kat, its a labeler, its riddled with technical flaws
21:02 rue_shop2 Lola8088, so how was your day?
21:02 katsmeow-afk did you have the probe set x10 ?
21:02 rue_shop2 no
21:02 Lola8088 It was pretty awesome
21:02 katsmeow-afk next time, do so
21:02 rue_shop2 reaaaaly?
21:02 rue_shop2 katsmeow-afk, indeed!
21:02 katsmeow-afk really
21:02 Lola8088 yeah, I danced all day in the kitchen
21:02 rue_shop2 Lola8088, heh
21:02 Lola8088 I'm really excited about dancing again.
21:02 tsmeow-afk sets all probes to x10 or
21:03 rue_shop2 katsmeow-afk, not seen a scope with x100!
21:03 tsmeow-afk has some 2kv pr
21:03 rue_shop2 oooo
21:03 katsmeow-afk microwave oven transformers and such
21:04 rue_shop2 Lola8088, is next visit monday?
21:04 Lola8088 Monday?
21:04 Lola8088 what's on monday?
21:04 Lola8088 my dance class is monday
21:05 Lola8088 so, no?
21:05 katsmeow-afk also, keep in mind all probes volt ratings drop off fast as the freq goes up
21:06 katsmeow-afk your average 600v probe is only 10v at 250Mhz
21:06 rue_shop2 katsmeow-afk, I made a 3000:1? 320MR voltage divider
21:06 rue_shop2 for flybacks
21:07 rue_shop2 Lola8088, I meant next dance session, so yea
21:07 katsmeow-afk why 3000 and not 1000 or 10,000 ?
21:07 Lola8088 yes!
21:07 rue_shop2 I cant find it, so I'm kinda guessing
21:07 Lola8088 I thought you were being super proactive and booking me
21:07 rue_shop2 its 1/4W 10M resistors, the power peaks out at 300KV iirc
21:07 rue_shop2 Lola8088, oh, sorry
21:08 katsmeow-afk no arc-over those lil resistors?
21:08 rue_shop2 I dont know if I'm remembering my numbers right
21:08 tsmeow-afk
21:08 rue_shop2 its not where it should be
21:09 rue_shop2 Lola8088, suggestions for supper?
21:09 Lola8088 pizza
21:09 rue_shop2 wait, did you guys do supper yet?
21:09 Lola8088 no we haven't, we were just trying to figure that out
21:09 rue_shop2 want to come over for pizza?
21:09 rue_shop2 I'll 'cook' :)
21:09 Lola8088 oooooh... you just got three YES!
21:09 rue_shop2 how about hawwian?
21:09 Lola8088 es..
21:09 Lola8088 yes
21:09 Lola8088 yup
21:10 Lola8088 okiedokie
21:10 rue_shop2 ok
21:10 rue_shop2 when ?
21:10 Lola8088 and a resounding WHOOOOOHA
21:10 Lola8088 ummm... ASAP, the kids are hungry
21:10 rue_shop2 panago ...style ok?
21:10 Lola8088 perfect
21:10 rue_shop2 ok, I'll get it 'cooking'
21:10 Lola8088 hehehhe heheh
21:11 Lola8088 I'll put clothes on the little one and force them all into a car
21:11 Lola8088 see you in a bit
21:16 rue_house Lola8088, it'll be finished cooking in 1/2hr
21:16 Lola8088 You're good.
21:16 Tom_itx mmmm pizza
21:16 Lola8088 verrrrrrry good
21:16 tsmeow-afk dr
21:17 Tom_itx i've heard about some of rue_house's cookin though
21:18 katsmeow-afk the carbonised pasta and rice?
21:18 Lola8088 Some of it is reeaaallly good.
21:19 rue_shop2 heh
21:23 tsmeow-afk usually puts the DiGeorno's rising supreme in the baby nukebox at 18 minutes on the timer, and let it sit another 5 minutes after done coo
21:23 katsmeow-afk no burning
21:24 katsmeow-afk same with bowl of pasta,, ramen (with various additives) is 3 minutes or 4 if i want it cooked fast and really hot
23:01 katsmeow-afk [22:41] <katsmeow-afk> 14kw of panels will make a gallon of gasoline equivalent per day
23:01 katsmeow-afk [22:44] <katsmeow-afk> the electrolyser panels will need to be ~10 inches square, and 152 cells, being fed with 33amps@275vdc from 14kw of solar cells
23:02 katsmeow-afk that's ~$4000 (plus frames and glass and stuff) to have a free gallon of gasoline-equivalent untill the cells wear out, 365 gallons/yr
23:03 katsmeow-afk at $3.50/gal, payback on the cells is 1,142 days, or 3 years
23:05 katsmeow-afk [22:50] <katsmeow-afk> if the system lasts 30 years, that's 10,950 gallons of gas-equivalent of hydrogen
23:05 katsmeow-afk [22:50] <katsmeow-afk> or (calc'ing at $4000), $0.36 pr gallon of gas
23:18 rue_house cool
23:20 katsmeow-afk well, a gallon of gas is tween 1 and 4 hrs in the baby genny
23:21 katsmeow-afk or 30 miles of driving, if you can fit a hydrogen tank onto your truck
23:22 katsmeow-afk 14kw = 33amps@275vdc , you can either put that into 2 tons of batteries in the truck, or convert it to hydrogen and feed your regular engine with it
23:25 katsmeow-afk 152 electrolyser cells , and inch thick homemade, would take up 12ft , a foot square including the frame, or a 3ft x 4ft space on a wall
23:25 katsmeow-afk make it 4x4 to include a small tank and tiny compressor
23:25 katsmeow-afk and controller electronics
23:28 katsmeow-afk 14kw = ~ 37ft x 37ft of collector, so you can shade your house with it
23:29 katsmeow-afk shade the truck in the driveway
23:29 katsmeow-afk give the privacy wall on the north property line a nice shade of blue
23:34 rue_house what do you think the efficiency of a vacuum cleaner mtoor is without the impellor
23:37 rue_house I still have to make the reaction force torometer for testing
23:41 katsmeow-afk i dunno
23:41 katsmeow-afk i think it will be real rpm-dependant, but you will haveto run them at very high rpm to get the hp outa them
23:43 katsmeow-afk running more than one, you might consider somehow switching from series wound to shunt wound while running and see how that affects hp and efficency
23:44 katsmeow-afk shunt will prolly push the torque way up as load tries to slow the motor down, pulling more current to the rotor
23:44 katsmeow-afk it would be one way to not need real high volts to push amps into the motors while driving
23:46 katsmeow-afk once up to rpm on some handy high dc voltage supply, like a big-assed cap and diodes from the powerline, i think you'll find 10v - 20v across the stator, and all the rest across the brushes
23:48 katsmeow-afk so if you ran the stator windings in series separately off the batteries once up to speed, you could have very tight rotor control driving them directly too
23:49 katsmeow-afk you'd need 1 or 2 or 3 12v batteries worth less battery pack voltage
23:52 tsmeow-afk points to the webpage not online any more, showing how she built a 0-200vdc @ 6amp supply to play with running flourescents o
23:53 rue_house how many mA t run a flourescent? about 250?
23:53 katsmeow-afk 130-ish
23:53 katsmeow-afk 15w
23:53 rue_house ah cool
