00:21 katsmeow-afk Seagate on Monday announced that it has sold more than 1 million drives using a new recording technology that will offer consumers 5TB hard drives next year
00:22 katsmeow-afk Currently, Seagate's drives store data at up to 625Gbits per square inch of storage areal density.
00:27 katsmeow-afk what genius, physically overlapping the sector writes ,, so if you write to track 1 and 3, track 2 is trashed!
00:28 katsmeow-afk On older drives, where old tracks are often overwritten, the writes can overlap previously written data on an adjoining track and unintentionally destroy it.
00:29 rue_house my potato planters are a fail
00:29 rue_house I took apart a second planter today, out of like 8 cubic feet of soil, I got 6 little potatoes
00:31 katsmeow-afk does that make the planters a fail? what about the soil?
00:35 rue_house well I did pulla potato that was closer to 15lbs out of the area I been throwing the compost
00:35 tsmeow-afk
00:36 katsmeow-afk the potato plater is the one with cement "boards" ?
00:37 rue_house no, I made wood stackers
00:37 rue_house I was told if I stacked the soil up as they grew I would get potatoes thru the whole lot
00:38 katsmeow-afk i have heard that too, i do not believe it
00:38 katsmeow-afk i think the bottom will compress and die
00:39 katsmeow-afk the poor plant will spend it's life trying to out-race you from more burying it
00:42 rue_house the only potatoes were on the bottom
00:43 katsmeow-afk that's where the roots were, but i'm surprised you got any at all,,, you got 6 little ones
00:44 katsmeow-afk if you can't get at least one large tato per plant, you are losing money burying good food
00:45 rue_house I didn't they grow like cazy in the compost pile, cant get rid of them
00:46 katsmeow-afk then place equal amounts of compost and the old dirt in the dryer, give it 5 minuntes on "fluff", and put it back in the potato bin for next year,,,,,, where are you getting nitrogen for your compost bin?
00:49 rue_house the compost pile is infiltrated with septic runoff, we think
00:49 katsmeow-afk oooooooooooohhhhh
00:49 rue_house so we dont eat those potatoes
00:49 rue_house use them as seed potatoe
00:50 katsmeow-afk it's not a good idea to eat root crops fed with human sewage
00:50 rue_house also stick all the kitchen stuff in there
00:50 katsmeow-afk seed for what?
00:50 rue_house for next years potatoes
00:50 rue_house compost potatoes go to the garden to grow next years food
00:50 katsmeow-afk same problems, the seed tatoes can harbor human microscopic worms
00:51 katsmeow-afk prolly not viruses tho
00:51 rue_house oh, hmm
00:51 rue_house its all a fail right now anyhow
00:51 katsmeow-afk well, it hasn't made you sick yet, i spose, but if anyone does contribute who has parasites, you cold get them
00:56 rue_house is paypal money of use to you?
00:57 katsmeow-afk yeas
00:59 katsmeow-afk technically, logically, humanure is ok , as well as any other animal output, if it's heated hot enough long enough,,,,, the only thing i know that cannot be eliminated as a threat is prions, like for "mad cow" and CJD
01:01 katsmeow-afk i suspect one of the reasons for the olde practice ofleaving rotating areas of cropland fallow for a year was to plow a row at a time to pour the nite-buckets into
01:01 katsmeow-afk they just didn't crop that land till the next year
01:11 katsmeow-afk i have stunning little positive feedback for the plugin i made, all i got was what rue said in here : nice
01:13 rue_house is it a power supply plugin?
01:13 katsmeow-afk a 10" x 4" x 2" box with a 2.5x5 front panel and a rear for edge connectors and barrel connectors in a plug-in mainframe,, and no one is intrested
01:13 katsmeow-afk it can be an anything plugin
01:13 rue_house kat,
01:13 rue_house you have a nice rack
01:14 rue_house I may not get another opportunity to say that :)
01:14 katsmeow-afk counters, freq generators, power supply, amplifiers, anything you put in a small box
01:14 katsmeow-afk heh
01:14 tsmeow-afk will appreciate the humor in that
01:14 katsmeow-afk heh
01:14 rue_house do you have a plan for it? :)
01:15 rue_house I have a lot of rack stuff and never have any projects that suit a rack
01:15 katsmeow-afk yeas, freq counter, parametric pulse generator, power supplies
01:15 rue_house mmm modular isolated output power supply
01:16 katsmeow-afk i has freq generators, counter, and high precision dvm in plugins in the same mainframe
01:16 katsmeow-afk yeas, 60w isolated floating psu
01:16 rue_house ok I sent the email, pls tell me if I forgot to spec anything
01:17 katsmeow-afk add a totem-pole output stage, and you have power pulse generators, audio amplifiers, etc
01:17 rue_house I found an astech modular supply with a 24V module in in
01:17 rue_house it
01:17 rue_house then, I found a second one
01:24 -adams.freenode.net:#garfield- [freenode-info] if you're at a conference and other people are having trouble connecting, please mention it to staff: http://freenode.net/faq.shtml#gettinghelp
01:24 rue_house many sellers spec the tensile strength too
01:24 rue_house its really low torque
01:24 katsmeow-afk yeas
01:25 rue_house http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Industry-rubber-timing-belt-80MXL025-tooth-100-width-0-25inch-6-35mm-B100MXL025-100-High-precision/568699137.html
01:25 rue_house I think they will lose the least power in the process of gearing down
01:25 katsmeow-afk well, they cannot slip
01:25 rue_house and they bend easy
01:26 katsmeow-afk the poly ones bend easy, the kevlar ones don't
01:26 rue_house I just dont have the time to sit down and line up a set of everything matching with the right ratios etc etc
01:26 rue_house I'm lucky if I even get 1hr on the weekend without someone calling me up for something
01:27 katsmeow-afk that one has fiberglas in it
01:27 rue_house can you? will you?
01:27 rue_house there are all sorts
01:27 katsmeow-afk i'll see what i can do
01:28 rue_house tryng to find the pullies, and the ratio and a matching belt thats the right size was too much
01:28 rue_house k, thankyou
01:28 katsmeow-afk yas, you'd think one company would provide sets allmatched
01:28 rue_house work out the best way to get money to you also
01:28 katsmeow-afk paypal is spendy, i dunno what their cut is
01:29 rue_house alibaba is great for buying 1000 of soemthing, for this test I just need one set
01:29 rue_house gnight
01:30 katsmeow-afk gnites
01:33 katsmeow-afk can you make the toothed pulleys on your lathe?
01:34 katsmeow-afk http://www.electricscooterparts.com/beltcogs.html
01:34 katsmeow-afk http://electricscooterparts.com/drivebelts.html
01:36 tsmeow-afk blinks at the price differe
01:49 rue_bed no
01:50 rue_bed I'm not worried about prices much for 1 set, I'm sure just like ebay there are wrong prices
01:50 rue_bed but I want it from alibaba because shipping to canada will be reasonable or free
01:50 rue_bed which I cant get from usa or canadian sellers
01:50 rue_bed alibaba express anyhow
01:51 rue_bed I tried on ebay, but I couldn't find any timing belt stuff
07:49 rue_bed oo nice calculators at the bottom
11:59 -hobana.freenode.net:#garfield- [freenode-info] if you're at a conference and other people are having trouble connecting, please mention it to staff: http://freenode.net/faq.shtml#gettinghelp
12:32 katsmeow-afk The famous server that hosted Wikileaks during its controversial release of secret U.S. State Department cables is now on eBay. It was going for $25,200 as of Monday morning.
14:31 katsmeow-afk here's a new one for your "ebay screwups", rue : We no longer have that item in stock. We have the exact same part in stock under a different internal sku number, but we are out of the sku number you bid on, even tho we do have that exact part in stock. So we didn't send it to you"
14:40 katsmeow-afk having different SKUs for an item SUKs
14:46 katsmeow-afk well, they ate it, just recieved this email : I just checked & we did have 1000 PCS left under a different internal #. I
14:46 katsmeow-afk canceled the auction & packed the 1000 PCS up to ship to you today. The
14:46 katsmeow-afk label is being printed as I type this. You can keep the refund & the parts
14:46 katsmeow-afk we're shipping today.
14:47 katsmeow-afk i'm sure they are expecting 5 stars
15:21 katsmeow-afk Peruvian Marching Powder : cocaine
15:28 katsmeow-afk "nothing gets you going like our breakfast cereal, just like nothing can get you going after lunch like rolling in a fire ant mound"
15:31 katsmeow-afk "i never hit rock bottom, i hit peat bottoms, sandy bottoms, a tar sands bottom, coal bottoms, clay bottom, and one particularly cute 23 year old, but that's it"
17:14 katsmeow-afk If Borkar's confidence is well-founded, perhaps 10 years from now during Kzanich's IDF23 keynote, he'll proudly tell his crowd, "I'm here to introduce the first graphene transitor–based PC."
17:14 katsmeow-afk what's a graphene transitor?
17:16 katsmeow-afk https://www.google.com/search?q=%22graphene+transitor%22&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a#nfpr=1&q=%22graphene+transitor%22&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official
17:17 katsmeow-afk "hmmm computers in reality don`t consume that electricity much "
17:19 rue_bed do you think you want to do the pulley reduction box stuff for me?
17:20 rue_bed if so have you worked out payment?
17:20 katsmeow-afk "want" ? no,, it's gonna be a pita to work thru the misspellings in Chinese
17:21 katsmeow-afk there is a company makes kits of the "timing belt" and matched pulleys, but they wanna sell 10 at a time
17:21 rue_bed yea, and the misnaming
17:21 rue_bed will you do it for the money?
17:22 katsmeow-afk prolly, as a part time thing when i cannot play on my feets
17:23 katsmeow-afk which, sadly, may be only 10 hours per day :-|
17:25 katsmeow-afk now that i can make these modules, and be happy enough with them, i have some desk projects for the winter
17:25 katsmeow-afk but there's still time i cannot do even that
17:31 katsmeow-afk *only* free shipping?
17:32 katsmeow-afk because $11 price + s&h seems like ebay prices
17:32 katsmeow-afk US $1.23 / piece
17:32 katsmeow-afk Shipping:
17:32 katsmeow-afk US $8.96 / piece via China Post Air Mail
17:33 katsmeow-afk for one piece , prices go way up : http://www.aliexpress.com/item/3M-8-1-Timing-belt-pulleys-timing-pulley-timing-belt-belt-pulley-the-suite-of-Synchronous/1233196088.html
17:34 katsmeow-afk that's a 8:1 small pulley, big pulley, and belt
17:34 katsmeow-afk US $35.99 + Shipping: US $10.07to United States via China Post Air Mail
17:34 katsmeow-afk so once aagin, (but i dunno Canadian shipping), ebay may be cheaper
17:35 katsmeow-afk $9 for belt, $9 for one pulley, $15 for the big pulley, that's $33 already
17:36 tsmeow-afk pokes
17:36 katsmeow-afk hello?
17:36 katsmeow-afk besides, you can prolly make the pulleys yourself after you get the first one
17:41 tsmeow-afk goes to toss some dead fish into the nukebox for di
18:00 katsmeow-afk afaik, i can get solid aluminum rounds up to 8" dia, tomorrow even, and almost any size plate to cut rounds from
18:00 katsmeow-afk i do not have a working lathe
18:02 katsmeow-afk but you cut a approx round, chuck it by the utside in a lathe, cut the 1/2" drive hole, mount on shaft and chuck by shaft, cut the outside round, then copy-cut to final round diameter, mount a mill or router on the carriage, move it back and fro to cut the teeth
18:15 katsmeow-afk ...
19:17 katsmeow-afk i see now why they shorted me the one item, just the 99 cents worth of capacitors in one box was almost more than i should carry ( 2500pcs 1000u@16v radial electrolytics )
19:18 katsmeow-afk the 8-screw barrier strips weren't light either, 110 of them
19:28 katsmeow-afk Exxon Mobil is moving to expand its $19 billion liquid natural gas plant in Papua New Guinea.
20:16 katsmeow-afk i need to get to bed early enough to be working outside at sunup,,, not enough is getting done out there
20:16 katsmeow-afk Prez O's speech is on tv now
20:19 rue_bed it can be pay shipping, almost all shipping from china is reasonable, occasionally some thing is listed stupid, I think its usually an error
20:20 rue_bed dont want ot make the pullies, cause I want to use the synchro belts
20:21 rue_bed the truck will have 35 motors, so working out suppliers and stuff is important
20:22 rue_bed I came home and fell asleep, started early at work and didn't get much sleep
20:23 rue_bed kinda came home from work and collapsed
20:24 rue_bed great find, the small pulley has a 6.35mm hole...
20:25 rue_bed .25 inch!
20:25 rue_bed wow, I think you did it
20:27 rue_bed $10 chipping to canada, only came up when I logged in, so thats ok
20:29 rue_bed did you work out how much and how you want to be paid for finding?
20:50 katsmeow-afk the things syncho belts ride on are called pulleys
20:51 rue_house :)ok
20:52 rue_house do you want $60 via paypal? more less or different?
20:52 rue_house you need to get your finder fee!
20:52 katsmeow-afk $60 sounds steep
20:52 katsmeow-afk what do you and thebear think?
20:53 rue_house decide what you like :) (afk...)
20:56 katsmeow-afk ok, my finder's fee is you keeping me updated once (or more) per day on how the electric conversions go
20:59 katsmeow-afk i still find the $35 price high, but even buyng qty 10 of a large pulley can cost $15 by the time it gets to me from china, a usa belt is $13+s&h, and i imagine a small pulley is $7 by the time i get it, and that's $35 (+the s&h on the belt) for the 3 items ,,, so <shrug>
21:01 tsmeow-afk would like you to take a note , put on a postit where you'll be working ont he mower-electric conversion : put the lil pulley onto the motor "backwards", so the collar with setscrew is on the end, and the belt rides near the m
21:02 katsmeow-afk this will reduce overhung load, put the moving vibrating belt nearer the bearing, and if the setscrew jambs you haveto drag it less to get it off the shaft
21:06 katsmeow-afk Falling from great heights is dangerous.[citation needed]
21:09 rue_shop2 you should citate that
21:10 rue_shop2 buying one thing from china can be expensive, its a 'annoyed seller' fee
21:10 rue_shop2 but when I do the truck I'll need a bunch, so the price will be better
21:10 katsmeow-afk yeas
21:11 rue_shop2 sure you dont want atleast 1 hours descent wage for your work?
21:11 rue_shop2 think of all the things you could buy on ebay with it
21:11 katsmeow-afk ok, it took ~1 hr anyhow, spread out over the eevning in pieces
21:11 katsmeow-afk all the one things?
21:12 tsmeow-afk will let you decide, if you wish to send money via pp instead of keeping me info
21:13 tsmeow-afk is sad you'd rather send money than keep her informed, but that's the way shit f
21:58 rue_house FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
21:58 rue_house the fuel line tap I was sold is the wrong one
21:58 rue_house and I'v scrapped all the packaging for it
21:58 rue_house DAMNIT
21:58 rue_house buy one from freaking ebay if I wanted crap
22:04 tsmeow-afk offers to sell rue a pack of the wrong sized dc power jacks to go with the wrong sized
23:09 TELunus In the final year of mech eng we do a full year (8 month) design project for a real client, as well as other classes. I managed to get one working on a base station and tether management system for a UAV for a small startup called Rigid Robotics.
23:10 TELunus They'll be working on the UAV while we're working on the base station, with hopefully prototypes of both done around Christmas.
23:42 rue_house cool
