01:09 katsmeow-afk 'The cougar wanted to eat me as a meal,' man says after narrrow escape
01:09 katsmeow-afk The Canadian Press Posted: Sep 12, 2012 6:44 PM PT Last Updated: Sep 12, 2012 10:44 PM PT
01:10 katsmeow-afk A 38-year-old Vancouver Island man says he feared for his life as he ran from an attacking cougar and scaled a piece of construction equipment in a desperate bid to escape.
01:10 katsmeow-afk With his pants shredded by the cougar's jaws and a shoe lost along the way in a swipe from the animal's claws, John Frank Jr. said he climbed a locked-up excavator's boom and called for help on his radio.
01:12 katsmeow-afk To show their thanks, he said the community held a special ceremony after the attack to thank God for (providing the cougar, scaring the shit out of the man, causing community-wide hysteria and terrorism, and then as if it was all a sadistic joke,) sparing his son's life.
05:48 rue_bed 512k serial eeprom, 16 bit samples, 1 minute interval, is 3 weeks storage
05:51 rue_bed two 10 bit samples could be fit in 24 bits
05:53 rue_bed 2x 10 bit samples, packaed in pairs into 24 bit words, 1 min interval, 512k eeprom, 2 weeks storage
05:53 rue_bed that gives you high and low range for each 1 min interval
05:57 rue_bed 1k 1/4w and 11k 1/2w will be a sufficient divider for up to 60v, vref 5V
06:07 rue_bed the tiny26 only has 1 uart, so you would have to bitbang something
06:07 rue_bed may I point out you have the usb avrs tom sent you
06:07 rue_bed U32
06:16 Tom_itx 32u4
09:10 rue_house wonder how hard it is to set it up as a serial device I can download the eeprom data
09:20 rue_house hmm now, how to run an avr off a "60"V supply
09:21 Tom_itx mmm
09:21 Tom_itx cable guy is working on the main line
09:21 rue_house I suppose I can top off 24 with a 7824 standing on a zener
09:21 Tom_itx squirrels must be hungry
09:22 Tom_itx my smps will work up to 48v iirc
09:22 rue_house this is a 48V battery bank
09:22 rue_house 7824 can take up to 40V
09:22 Tom_itx but i wired it to the centertap at 24
09:22 Tom_itx just because
09:23 rue_house so I need aleast a 20V zener
09:23 Tom_itx so my service will be intermitten today
09:23 rue_house I'm suppose to get ready to go 2 mins ago
09:23 rue_house ah, my first job is on this side of town tho
09:24 Tom_itx i did one at 6, the rest are all late today
09:25 rue_house if this m32u4 takes back 100mA
09:26 rue_house 5.5W loss on a linear regulator
09:26 Tom_itx u're not in reprap no more
09:26 rue_house its a detour project
09:26 Tom_itx they're busy 24/7 seems
09:29 rue_house oo no rtc on the u4 is there?
09:29 Tom_itx don't remember
09:30 Tom_itx i don't think so
09:35 rue_house hour is 0-24, thats 5 bits min is 0-60, thats 6 bits I can fit hour:min in a 16 bit word
09:37 Tom_itx and days of week
09:37 rue_house dow is 0-7 thats 3 bits
09:38 Tom_itx 0-6
09:38 rue_house for some reason I'm including invalid
09:39 rue_house I want to have a start-timestamp in the eeprom, then the data
09:39 Tom_itx 0-23 0-59 0-6
09:40 rue_house oh damn, I dont think I have the cert tags I need for my first job today
09:40 rue_house I used the last one yesterday
09:40 rue_house ARG
09:40 Tom_itx better call for backups
09:41 rue_house got to go get somw
09:42 rue_house I'm 10 mins late from normal leaving, this means I hit the traffic that will add 20 more mins
09:42 Tom_itx that makes you late
09:42 rue_house later!
09:42 Tom_itx me too
09:42 Tom_itx bye
20:42 rue_house it will shave 24 off the top of 60 if you lift the ground up atleast 22 with a zener
20:43 rue_house then I can take hte resulting sub-40V and reguate it with a 7805
22:14 katsmeow-afk well, till you accidently pull the output of the top regulator below the top of the zener, or simply pull any of it down and get more than 30v on the input
22:16 katsmeow-afk why not use a pnp to-3p/to-218 case, like a TIP36, and a npn on the bottom to pull it's base a lil to drop whatever volts you need to?
22:16 katsmeow-afk TIP122 would be a nice hi gain npn good for 100v
22:17 katsmeow-afk good for 1/2 amp at 60v
22:17 katsmeow-afk that will be enough to really work that TIP36 on top really hard
22:18 katsmeow-afk TIP102 is about the same
22:51 rue_house all I need is 5V tho, I have to shave 46.8V -> 57.6V down to sub-40v for the 7805
22:51 rue_house but yes
22:51 katsmeow-afk so shave it down to 10v to feed the 7805, it will run cooler and be happier
22:51 katsmeow-afk and it's making 7805's happy what we are all about?
22:53 katsmeow-afk i;d stay out of #RoboTics to allow poeple to talk in there, but how will i know when to come back in?
23:01 rue_house I'd like to use a switcher, unregulated to 1/2 the voltage
23:05 katsmeow-afk ok, won't be enough, 60v in will still blow the 7805
