17:59 katsmeow-afk i stuck a hose up it's breather and fed it manually, got 250vac out of the genny, unloaded
17:59 katsmeow-afk it started manually and automagically
17:59 katsmeow-afk battery was flat, an open cell, would not even pull in the relays
18:00 katsmeow-afk spark plugs had a lite bit of oil on them, i expect the engine was low on oil and was intermittantly cutting off spark at 3600 rpm, so it was sucking oil past the rings
18:00 katsmeow-afk someone overfilled it with new oil
18:01 katsmeow-afk these things have an oil pump and filter on them
18:01 katsmeow-afk runs real smooth and fairly quiet even with the top and front of the box off
18:02 katsmeow-afk i had no load for it tho, it has no recepticals to plug anything into, it's meant to be wired to a transfer box (which i have two of)
18:02 katsmeow-afk the 8kw is 60A@120vac or 30A@240vac
18:03 katsmeow-afk all things considered, it's not all that needed, except for now when the 240v genny i built is down because it's been sitting still for 5 yrs, and the ReallyBig genny has no engine on it yet
18:03 katsmeow-afk (the engine for it is in the car still)
18:07 katsmeow-afk it does have one bug: if the engine catches (and so the starter drops out) and then dies, the starter instantly re-powers up, but is not turning the engine over
18:08 katsmeow-afk i was using a smaller battery to test it, i didn't wait to see if it cycled
18:09 katsmeow-afk instead, i think i wanna determine if the engine is turning, and if it is, then interrupt power to the starter no matter what, i think that will save starters and gears
18:10 katsmeow-afk just anything to "feel" the flywheel magnet whiz by will be enough to know the engine is still turning
18:11 katsmeow-afk Generac sells this model for $2200
18:12 katsmeow-afk brushes on the genny are good, still have 1/4 inch of brush left
18:26 katsmeow-afk ok, from what i can tell from online reviews, this things defineitely needs a controlbox-ectomy , while mine is a non-stepper throttle, putting out 250v needs to be regulated down, seems this is why they burn stuff up
19:25 katsmeow-afk i am guessing these are not made or tested in the usa, they have metric bolts, so they are prolly not tested on usa grade propane, propane in south america is what is called butane in the usa

20:41 rue_house I want 5
20:41 Tom_itx 5 what
20:42 rue_house chips
20:42 Tom_itx i wonder if that's a decent price on those steppers
20:42 Tom_itx 5 / 70 ish
20:42 Tom_itx i think reprappers think 100 is a magic number
20:43 Tom_itx it's gotta be because of the metric system
20:43 Tom_itx i'm convinced
22:03 katsmeow-afk rue, you never told me which chips to send
22:03 katsmeow-afk but $18 for 2000 of those 74HCT574 is a serious steal
22:04 katsmeow-afk or $20 for 2000 74HCT374
22:04 katsmeow-afk or $9 for 1000 74VLC373
22:04 katsmeow-afk i didn't buy any of those 3
22:05 katsmeow-afk someone got some great deals
22:05 katsmeow-afk less than a penny per chip
23:28 rue_house I looked for a few of those listings, they must not be available in canada, cause they would't come up
23:29 rue_house are they all us chipping only? lower 48?
