22:47 katsmeow-afk hires, not finished loading yet
22:47 katsmeow-afk ~1.5megabyte each
22:48 katsmeow-afk ok, loaded,
22:49 Tom_itx ok?
22:49 katsmeow-afk on 25, i want a channel inthe dowel to allow the wires to escape between the pot shaft and the black plastic, so there must be a small hole drilled the length ,, AND i want the alum dowel to extend up around the pins in 26 (you can see there's clearance there)
22:50 katsmeow-afk in 26, the portion that obviously cable clamp can/willbe removed
22:51 katsmeow-afk the body of the pins and metal shell is a separate unit and can be removed for assembly
22:51 katsmeow-afk i need 12 such dowels ;-)
22:52 rue_mohr what that for kat?
22:53 katsmeow-afk i am using the mini-din-6 as the knob for the pots
22:53 katsmeow-afk so i can plug into the psu to set current or voltage
22:54 rue_mohr hehe
22:54 katsmeow-afk if it's remote controleld, the knob is useless, unless that's where i am plugging the cale into
22:54 rue_mohr cool
22:54 Tom_itx i don't quite follow the request
22:54 katsmeow-afk so i was thinking outside the box again
22:54 rue_mohr why not use a pot with a hollow chart for stacking?
22:54 Tom_itx as usual
22:54 Tom_itx it will take me a bit to get my head around it
22:54 rue_mohr chart? shaft..
22:54 katsmeow-afk rue, what?
22:54 rue_mohr the pots with hollow chafts for stacked knobs
22:55 e_mohr points to the tektronic s
22:55 katsmeow-afk a) i don't have those 2) still won't fit the din plug
22:55 Tom_itx you want a hole down a shaft with a slot for the wires to escape before the pot?
22:55 katsmeow-afk yeas
22:55 Tom_itx 6 wires?
22:55 rue_mohr only need 3 for serial
22:56 rue_mohr unless you already have a ground, in which case 2 works
22:56 m_itx starts a new work order for rue_
22:56 katsmeow-afk the dowel is 3/8, the area where the wires get soldered is .300, the pot shaft is .222 at the tops of that knurrling
22:56 rue_mohr k
22:56 Tom_itx you want it to press onto the shaft?
22:57 katsmeow-afk i can drill out the cable clamp area to fit the pot shaft, and that may be the best can be done for now
22:57 Tom_itx i don't have a knurl
22:57 Tom_itx err broach
22:57 katsmeow-afk the pot shaft is ,, well, you can see it
22:57 katsmeow-afk don't need to, a plain hole is fine
22:57 Tom_itx so the wires will turn with the shaft
22:58 katsmeow-afk i can cross pin it or goo it
22:58 katsmeow-afk i know
22:58 Tom_itx the 'tube' will fit inside the black housing?
22:58 Tom_itx the wires will escape just outside the housing?
22:58 katsmeow-afk don't start work on it unless you wanna challenge, but that's what i had in mind,,, but let me try to make something while yoou give me advice
22:59 Tom_itx the 'tube' will fit over the broach on the pot
22:59 katsmeow-afk yeas
22:59 katsmeow-afk yeas
22:59 Tom_itx the other end of the tube will fit inside the black housing which is .300"
22:59 katsmeow-afk the alum shaft OD when outside the din plug does not matter
22:59 m_itx looks at his 2" bar s
22:59 katsmeow-afk yipes
23:00 rue_mohr !!!
23:00 e_mohr takes toms 2" bar stock for making his m
23:00 rue_mohr its flat!?
23:00 Tom_itx rue_mohr the surplus has bundles of it
23:00 e_mohr gies it
23:00 Tom_itx it is round, hex, square
23:00 rue_mohr I need 2" round pin for its knees
23:00 rue_mohr CHEAP
23:00 katsmeow-afk then why aren't you selling it to us?!
23:01 Tom_itx aluminum
23:01 rue_mohr at 2" aluminum is prolly ok
23:01 Tom_itx i don't get down there as often
23:01 rue_mohr kat I had a thought to cast some pins
23:01 Tom_itx if i looked i could probably find some aircraft wing pins
23:01 katsmeow-afk rue, you know my feelings: 1/2 inch grade 8 bolt
23:02 Tom_itx do they need to be FAA certified?
23:02 rue_mohr yes
23:02 katsmeow-afk only if the robot flies by flappingit's legs
23:02 rue_mohr but a grade 8 bolt will eat thru the rest of the knee
23:02 katsmeow-afk make the bearings/sleeves of some steel too
23:03 rue_mohr I cnt make the whole mecha out of stuff I dont have
23:03 Tom_itx remind me about the shaft. i'm going to sleep
23:03 rue_mohr $240 budget remember?
23:03 katsmeow-afk yeas, i remember now
23:03 Tom_itx the alum is sold some by the foot and some by the pound
23:04 rue_mohr katsmeow-afk, but it does leave me with a problem on how to drill a 2" hold in plate
23:04 rue_mohr so I'm thinking on how to avoid tha
23:04 rue_mohr I thik using more pipe is the tricks
23:04 Tom_itx use a 2" drill
23:04 rue_mohr if you cant drill a hole, weld one on
23:05 Tom_itx gnite
23:05 katsmeow-afk happy sleeps
23:08 rue_mohr happy feet!
23:08 Tom_itx the wire exit slot parallel to the hole in the shaft or perp to it?
23:11 katsmeow-afk umm,, i dunno?
23:11 Tom_itx i don't have any 3/8" stock
23:11 Tom_itx i'd have to see if i can find some
23:12 Tom_itx how long are these parts?
23:12 Tom_itx 2"?
23:12 katsmeow-afk i don't even know the size of the wire hole, i'd prefer to use 6 conductor .050 ribbon cable, but if i can't get that out of the din, i need to use 32awg wierwarap wire
23:12 e_mohr offers tom canadian aluminumm
23:12 katsmeow-afk i laid a ruler in front n the pics
23:12 Tom_itx i forgot to look
23:12 Tom_itx and closed it already
23:12 Tom_itx sry
23:13 tsmeow-afk open
23:14 Tom_itx about 1.25"
23:14 katsmeow-afk 1 3/8 overall shaft needed
23:14 Tom_itx 1.375
23:15 Tom_itx with a .222 thruhole and a .125 slot parallel to the hole ~.250 long
23:15 Tom_itx mill slot
23:15 katsmeow-afk atm i am trying to figure how i'd true the pot and the black plastic to pour in epoxy to make it be one with the universe, and not wobble the "knob"
23:16 Tom_itx i gotta sleep.
23:16 katsmeow-afk the shaft is much prefrrable, but that's going to be a ton of work to make
23:17 Tom_itx ?
23:17 Tom_itx what we just described?
23:17 katsmeow-afk several holes in it, and lathe turing, etc
23:17 katsmeow-afk yeas
23:17 katsmeow-afk for 12 of them?
23:18 katsmeow-afk lemme see what i can fudge together
23:18 Tom_itx i'm gonna fudge some sleep together right now :)
23:18 katsmeow-afk mmmmmmm fudge
23:18 Tom_itx 3am will come too quick
23:18 katsmeow-afk true
23:30 katsmeow-afk the OD of the shell is .482 , .5 - .482 = .009 wall, too skinny
23:31 katsmeow-afk or, it's simply a .018 clearance in a .5 bushing
23:31 katsmeow-afk or something undersized from .500
23:32 katsmeow-afk fix the din to the front panel in a undersized .500 bushing, then a slightly flex coupler to the pot
23:32 Tom_itx where did .500 come from? we were taking about .375 all along
23:33 katsmeow-afk i was thinking in another direction outside the outside of the box
23:33 katsmeow-afk the .500 was literally a number from thin air, related to the idea of mounting the din from the outside and not the inside
23:34 Tom_itx ok
23:34 katsmeow-afk .375?
23:34 Tom_itx 3/8" bar stock
23:34 katsmeow-afk ah
23:35 katsmeow-afk tryng to find something that's a lot less work
23:35 tsmeow-afk cusses the drill bits being two fl
23:37 rue_mohr drilling bowties?
23:37 rue_mohr or elipses?
23:37 katsmeow-afk triangles :-/
23:37 rue_mohr mmm wangles
23:37 rue_mohr c
23:43 katsmeow-afk and the sleeve that goes around that is .553 OD
23:44 katsmeow-afk eventually i hope to say something i find useful to me
23:59 tsmeow-afk takes another
