09:42 AM nuxil_ is now known as nuxil
06:08 PM josuah: these new 0series 1series 2series ATtiny have a very nice programming interface!
06:08 PM josuah: https://github.com/microchip-pic-avr-tools/pymcuprog#serial-port-updi-pyupdi
06:08 PM josuah: all it takes is one THT resistor (like 10k, or 5k, or 20k) and your favorite USB <-> UART dongle
06:09 PM josuah: they made the reset pin (up by default on an UART, how convenient) also talk a half-duplex UART-based protocol
06:10 PM qu1j0t3: huh.
08:57 PM Cracki: before updeedoo there was debugwire, which also wiggled the reset line
08:59 PM Cracki: not sure if that was simple enough to be DIY-friendly though
08:59 PM Cracki: all the layers above physical/bit, i.e. the "business logic", are usually a headache
09:00 PM Cracki: (not talking specifically about updi but (debug) protocols in general)
10:26 PM exp: PDI's acceptable too
10:27 PM exp: little 2x3 0.05" header of which you only use like 4 pins
10:27 PM exp: debugging the various large issues i've faced would have been impossible except for nice register + ram views etc
10:27 PM exp: stepping through with a live view of things
10:33 PM Phantom: question for you guys, I need an enclosure for a 12V 7AH battery (or 12AH, but not bigger) with a float charger, outdoor rated, that will be under the sun... is that something that exists commercially for not much money or is that diy land?
11:01 PM exp: Phantom: i don't know of anything particularly nice offhand
11:02 PM exp: it likely will exist, look for something like 'emergency lighting enclosure'
11:02 PM exp: as they are standard lead-acid float-charged 12v
11:02 PM Phantom: those are usually for interior use...
11:02 PM exp: it likely will exist, look for something like 'ip67 emergency lighting enclosure'
11:03 PM Phantom: a quick look say that it is not what I want...
11:04 PM exp: then i'm not sure if i know of a commercial class i'm afraid
11:04 PM exp: might just have to buy an ip67 box and charger yourself
11:04 PM Phantom: yeah...
11:05 PM Phantom: I want to install a window well pump, I tought of a boat bilge pump... powerfull enough, and can be battery operated
11:05 PM exp: like a french drain for a basement window/
11:06 PM Phantom: french drain require massive work...
11:06 PM exp: look for 'puddle pump' if so
11:06 PM exp: they can pump in very shallow puddles
11:06 PM Phantom: the problem with those is that they are 120V, I'm looking for something that survive power failure
11:06 PM Phantom: hence the bilge pump
11:07 PM exp: https://www.emergencylight.net/weatherproof-emergency-light/ seems to be roughly what i'm thinking of, although it'd be nicer if the lights were mounted in standard holes
11:07 PM exp: you should be able to find something roughly equivalent to that
11:07 PM exp: other than the annoying lights, meets your requirements
11:08 PM Phantom: hmm
11:08 PM Phantom: and beside being super ugly lopl
11:08 PM exp: well most ip67 boxes are going to look very much like that
11:08 PM exp: chunky, big angles
11:08 PM exp: the lights being at slightly wonky angles does not help :)
11:09 PM exp: anyway a sump pump might do, but i don't know much about them
11:09 PM exp: so check the minimum depth it can pump in
11:09 PM exp: otherwise you might end up with a good few inches of standing water anyway
11:09 PM Phantom: few inches is a non-issue
11:09 PM exp: guess you don't live in mosquito territory then :-p
11:09 PM Phantom: I can dig the stones
11:09 PM Phantom: oh there is no water normally there
11:10 PM exp: oh is this like flood prevention?
11:10 PM Phantom: yup
11:10 PM Phantom: we got a month worth of rain in 3 hours
11:10 PM Phantom: 80mm
11:10 PM exp: yeah that's a problem
11:10 PM exp: where i live, drainage was not properly modelled
11:10 PM exp: so an entire bank of houses is sloooowly moving away from the road
11:11 PM exp: you gotta take care of that stuff properly or water will destroy everything
11:11 PM Phantom: I expect the pump to not run more than once a year, if it even run
11:12 PM exp: you should exercise it and the battery periodically, or make sure the charger can be set to 'storage'
11:12 PM exp: otherwise it will be seized or full of shit, and the battery will have long sinced dropped in capacity
11:13 PM exp: that's the problem with emergency systems, unless you have regular emergencies they're just assumed to be fine
11:13 PM Phantom: the pump will be dry all the time
11:13 PM Phantom: and is stainless steel and plastic
11:13 PM exp: right but when you come to start it and you find that a squirrel has stored its nuts in there, then you have problems :)
11:13 PM Phantom: I'm more worried about spiders
11:14 PM exp: do you live somewhere with substantial spiders?
11:14 PM Phantom: nope
11:14 PM exp: lucky that
11:14 PM Phantom: snow kill lots of bugs
