05:30 AM josuah: insanity! https://www.bit-tech.net/news/tech/cpus/linux-atmel-microcontrollers/1/
05:38 AM josuah: there might not be any point, but still fun to see
08:00 AM exp: must say i'm sceptical
08:00 AM exp: very much doubt that much of linux at all can fit on an AVR
08:00 AM exp: 'full desktop operating system'? no chance
08:00 AM exp: a typical icon on my desktop is more ram than an AVR has lol
08:02 AM LeoNerd: I've seen people build emulation systems, involving using an 8bit AVR with some large external RAM chips, as a virtual machine
08:02 AM LeoNerd: Boot Linux to a command prompt on serial port. Eventually. Over the course of several days.
08:02 AM exp: ultimately they are computers
08:02 AM exp: so they can compute anything computable
08:03 AM exp: rather tautological i know but worth mentioning ;-)
08:03 AM exp: right, so he achieves it as you say, by emulating a 32 bit arm
08:04 AM exp: not in any way 'porting linux' or anything of the sort
08:04 AM exp: still it's a very cool project, i don't wanna be a hater :)
08:05 AM qu1j0t3: LeoNerd: Yeah that would be extremely slow :-)
09:01 AM josuah: qu1j0t3, LeoNerd: he said 2h to boot to bash
09:02 AM qu1j0t3: fun fun
09:02 AM LeoNerd: Oh that's not *all* that bad then
09:03 AM qu1j0t3: yeah was abuot to say, i expected slower
09:04 AM josuah: I do not think there was any hope of doing anything with that
09:04 AM josuah: except having fun in the process of building the virtual machine for himself
09:28 AM exp: that is the real key, knowing enough to write a functional emulator
