11:01 AM specing_ is now known as specing
05:14 PM * WormFood wonders why nobody updated the url in the topic yet ;-P
05:32 PM josuah: WormFood: I do not see a deadlink here, what should it be?
05:34 PM qu1j0t3: updated version i believe
06:34 PM rue_mohr: sorry, power outage is being cruel
06:34 PM rue_mohr: WormFood,
06:34 PM rue_mohr: <rue_mohr> so...
06:34 PM rue_mohr: <rue_mohr> back in pfff, 2010? I cleared out a bunch of dead nicks in #avr
06:34 PM rue_mohr: <rue_mohr> I gave 3 days notice I was going to do it
06:34 PM rue_mohr: <rue_mohr> and someone got all bent up in a knot about it, started #avrs
06:34 PM rue_mohr: <rue_mohr> so, the freenode staff PROMISED there would be no channel-swiping
06:34 PM rue_mohr: <rue_mohr> the other fellow registered #avr before I did
06:35 PM rue_mohr: <rue_mohr> and, when asked, the freenode staff decided to put the channel in limbo instead of upholding their promise
06:35 PM rue_mohr: <rue_mohr> so, there is no admin for #avr
06:50 PM WormFood: wtf?!?
06:50 PM WormFood: That's not cool
06:51 PM WormFood: let's dDoS them until they comply
06:57 PM Phantom: this is not freenode, the oper shafted everyone with the move
08:44 PM rue_mohr: I'm kinda concerned there have not been fund raising rallies
08:45 PM rue_mohr: it says concerning things might be going on in the background
08:45 PM rue_mohr: Phantom, can you change the topic?
10:51 PM Phantom changed topic of #avr to: AVRs and stuff | https://avrs.fi | http://www.engbedded.com/fusecalc/ | http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/avr/baudcalc/avrbaudcalc-1.0.8.php test
10:51 PM Phantom: rue_mohr: yes?
10:51 PM Phantom changed topic of #avr to: AVRs and stuff | https://avrs.fi | http://www.engbedded.com/fusecalc/ | http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/avr/baudcalc/avrbaudcalc-1.0.8.php
10:51 PM Phantom: (so can you?)
11:02 PM specing_ is now known as specing
11:14 PM rue_mohr: no
11:14 PM rue_mohr: it would be great if you can fix the link for avrbaudcalc
11:15 PM rue_mohr: http://wormfood.net/avrbaudcalc.php
11:18 PM Phantom: froim rue to worm?
11:18 PM Phantom changed topic of #avr to: AVRs and stuff | https://avrs.fi | http://www.engbedded.com/fusecalc/ | http://wormfood.net/avrbaudcalc.php
11:18 PM rue_mohr: WormFood, you have done a google for "wormfood avr baud calc" right?
11:18 PM rue_mohr: some of the hits are crazy
11:19 PM rue_mohr: Phantom, its wormfoods calculator
11:19 PM Phantom: I know
11:19 PM rue_mohr: I thought he was dead, so I posted the backup I had (an old version)
11:19 PM WormFood: My website was offline, for the last 3 years, but now it's back
11:19 PM rue_mohr: but now he's back
11:19 PM rue_mohr: from outter space
11:19 PM WormFood: I was offline. I might as well have been dead for all I could do during the last 4 1/2 years.
11:19 PM rue_mohr: he just walked into the room with that smile upon his face
11:20 PM Phantom: WormFood: I actually tought you died lol
11:20 PM rue_mohr: I should have ...
11:20 PM Phantom: ... killed him?
11:20 PM WormFood: I tried to kill myself during that time, but obviously failed.
11:20 PM Phantom: I hope you are joking...
11:21 PM WormFood: sadly, I'm not
11:21 PM Phantom: yikes
11:21 PM Phantom: I hope you are better now
11:21 PM Phantom: and got the help needed
11:21 PM WormFood: yes
11:21 PM WormFood: thanks
11:22 PM Phantom: ... what's up with ##electronics and all the suicides?!?!?!?
11:22 PM Phantom: or avr...
11:22 PM Phantom: we lost an abnormally high amount of regulars due to suicide
11:22 PM rue_mohr: WormFood, did you notice the blip I put at the top?
11:22 PM WormFood: I personally think very smart people are more prone to depression
11:23 PM rue_mohr: the world is ****ing messed up place
11:23 PM WormFood: yes, of course. Thanks.
11:23 PM rue_mohr: the people who do best is the people who dont care
11:23 PM WormFood: Things are fucked up all over, more than anywhere else. ;P
11:23 PM rue_mohr: I'll change my page up to be a redirect
11:23 PM rue_mohr: the universe
11:23 PM rue_mohr: the more you know the worse it can seem
11:24 PM WormFood: The universe is trying to kill you
11:24 PM rue_mohr: well, around people anyhow
11:24 PM WormFood: That's what I mean about smarts and depression. Smart people see more possibilities, than dumb people.
11:24 PM rue_mohr: I'm curiously digging to see if the page I put up has any links on google
11:24 PM WormFood: it does
11:25 PM WormFood: I found it when I went searching.
11:25 PM rue_mohr: not so far
11:25 PM rue_mohr: all fake clickbait links
11:26 PM WormFood: I wonder if sparkfun removed their link to my page or not, since it wasn't working for so long.
11:27 PM rue_mohr: ah, there is a real one
11:27 PM WormFood: told ya
11:28 PM rue_mohr: ah there is another one
11:28 PM rue_mohr: huh
11:28 PM rue_mohr: I don't even know how long it was up...
11:31 PM rue_mohr: one day I needed to use it
11:31 PM rue_mohr: all I could find were the static captures
11:31 PM rue_mohr: I was like >:/
11:32 PM Phantom: WormFood: copyright notice at the bottom to be updated?
11:32 PM WormFood: no
11:32 PM WormFood: it's right
11:33 PM WormFood: I didn't update it lately.
11:33 PM WormFood: it says 2016, right?
11:33 PM Phantom: ya
11:33 PM WormFood: that is in fact correct.
11:36 PM rue_mohr: might want to adjust "freenode"
11:37 PM Phantom: pizza is almost ready
11:37 PM Phantom: no, I won't share! MOUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
11:38 PM WormFood: I forgot about the freenode bit at the bottom, hold on a sec...
11:38 PM rue_mohr: I'm in no hurry
11:40 PM Phantom: "ok, the pizza look done!" *open the oven door* *timer beep* "ok, yeah, it was done!"
11:41 PM rue_mohr: ok, so, basically I had another disasterous weekend
11:41 PM rue_mohr: I only get 52 of them :(
11:41 PM rue_mohr: I think I put too many turns on the feedback for my royer osc
11:42 PM rue_mohr: and its under the output winding
11:43 PM qu1j0t3: 52 of whats? do i need to check twitter?
11:43 PM rue_mohr: 52 weekends/year
11:43 PM qu1j0t3: oh
11:43 PM qu1j0t3: i've been working on a baxendall hv osc for months, but i am using Coiltronics parts
11:44 PM rue_mohr: whats the IP V?
11:44 PM rue_mohr: input
11:44 PM qu1j0t3: ~5v, but tested up to 12
11:44 PM WormFood: Done
11:44 PM rue_mohr: ok, whats the output voltage?
11:45 PM rue_mohr: WormFood, :)
11:45 PM rue_mohr: WormFood, your not borred are ya?
11:45 PM WormFood: If you want to find links like what is on the old page, I'll add 'em, but I'm not looking 'em up right now. You can see the old page at avrbaudcalc-2.0.0.php
11:45 PM qu1j0t3: output 1kV regulated is the target. xfrmr is only rated to 1340 vrms on secondary
11:46 PM rue_mohr: ...
11:46 PM rue_mohr: not trying to go flyback on that are you?
11:46 PM qu1j0t3: no, it's baxendall (royerish)
11:46 PM qu1j0t3: basically what jim williams was doing
11:47 PM WormFood: meh! I see a small problem, but I'm not gonna fix it right this instant.
11:48 PM qu1j0t3: rue_mohr: basically this one https://imgur.com/B6au1Lz
11:48 PM rue_mohr: qu1j0t3, so, whats taking months?
11:48 PM WormFood: How many people noticed that if you mouse-over the frequency on the bit rate tables, that it will show you some info about the frequency?
11:49 PM rue_mohr: I was playing with it
11:49 PM rue_mohr: WormFood,
11:49 PM qu1j0t3: rue_mohr: i'm not as good as you :)
11:49 PM WormFood: I think it's a cool feature, but the frequency has to be dead on to display anything. I want to fix that, so that 3.68Mhz shows the info for 3.864Mhz
11:50 PM WormFood: 3.6864*
11:50 PM rue_mohr: :)
11:50 PM rue_mohr: qu1j0t3, but, is something not working?
11:50 PM qu1j0t3: rue_mohr: lots of dumb problems, lots of interruptions
11:50 PM qu1j0t3: i think it's basically working now.
11:51 PM rue_mohr: huh
11:51 PM qu1j0t3: i'm very slow and not very smrt :)
11:51 PM rue_mohr: it seems to work nicely to control the bias voltage on the transistor bases instead of the high current path
11:51 PM qu1j0t3: rue_mohr: wasted a lot of time because i couldn't get it to start reliably
11:51 PM rue_mohr: mine regulates by pulling off a ~3V supply on the base pullups
11:52 PM qu1j0t3: rue_mohr: wasted more time because of bad assumptions (like i'd killed a transistor) or my adapter had a broken connection i didn't notice, etc, etc
11:52 PM rue_mohr: you onyl have a pullup resistor on one base?
11:52 PM qu1j0t3: that was actually a breakthrough, i think
11:52 PM qu1j0t3: initially i was using two
11:52 PM rue_mohr: two may have a chance of not starting
11:52 PM rue_mohr: but it runs nice
11:53 PM qu1j0t3: yeah i think with two it was unreliable starting
11:53 PM rue_mohr: 1%?
11:53 PM qu1j0t3: i didn't change away from that for months because the Zetex app note uses two
11:53 PM qu1j0t3: no 5% i think
11:53 PM rue_mohr: huh
11:54 PM qu1j0t3: yeah, honestly i burned so much time because of that
11:54 PM rue_mohr: the CCFL inverters use an RC with a diac to bump-start the osc
11:54 PM qu1j0t3: another thing is, when it fails to start, it draws well over 1A, and so i didn't wait long enough before cutting it off ... i think it was just very _slow_ starting.
11:54 PM rue_mohr: yea
11:54 PM qu1j0t3: also , reading between your lines, i might have picked an unlucky pair of resistors? jsut seems unlikely
11:54 PM rue_mohr: that inductor would slow it down
11:55 PM rue_mohr: tho
11:55 PM rue_mohr: thats uH
11:55 PM rue_mohr: thought it said mH for a sec
11:55 PM rue_mohr: but, with that setup, there might be flyback endangering the fet
11:56 PM qu1j0t3: because i wasn't sure where to look, i burned a lot of time puzzled
11:56 PM qu1j0t3: i think i'm using a pretty high rated fet
11:56 PM qu1j0t3: i also got regulation to work with low side load (lol)
11:56 PM qu1j0t3: using npn driver and pnp darlington iirc
11:57 PM qu1j0t3: then i decided i'd just follow williams and go less complex
11:57 PM rue_mohr: I wonder if the feedback it such that if you remove the pullup the osc stops
11:58 PM qu1j0t3: using IRF820 fwiw
11:58 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1210351.jpg
11:58 PM rue_mohr: do you only need a 2N3906?
11:59 PM rue_mohr: and sorry, that should be pre-inductor
11:59 PM qu1j0t3: well that's cute
11:59 PM qu1j0t3: rue_mohr: I'm using the Zetex ZDT1048
11:59 PM qu1j0t3: dual npn
11:59 PM rue_mohr: if there isn't a lot of leakage in the transformer, it'll stop pretty fast after that bias is removed
