12:41 AM rue_mohr: arg, $260 in electricity, I need to start making my own
01:06 AM Phantom: 260??
01:07 AM Phantom: I pay 170$CAD * 12.... and I will have a big return because I overpaid
01:12 AM Phantom: estimated at 345$ somehow o.O
02:03 AM ME: rue_mohr: I tried to order ds3231m somewhere and no luck, but they seem to give out samples, so I ordered from them
02:04 AM ME: but I don't believe my "company" website ibawizard.net is fooling anyone
03:17 AM specing_ is now known as specing
05:50 AM vmt: last samples i got was from vlsi.fi, got 3x of their decoder ics if memory serves. looking at their pricing now it'd be about 48€
06:06 AM me is now known as ME
10:03 AM LeoNerd: Wow. ATtiny1616 seems unavailable for love nor money. Absolutely zero of them in any package variant at either Mouser or Digikey
10:04 AM qu1j0t3: :(
10:05 AM qu1j0t3: + https://twitter.com/A13_technology/status/1405525855623806985
10:06 AM qu1j0t3: :(
10:09 AM LeoNerd: 12,000
10:09 AM LeoNerd: Expected 06/06/2022
10:09 AM LeoNerd: !!!
10:09 AM LeoNerd: That's next year. That's a year away
10:11 AM qu1j0t3: lucky i bought some of these already
10:11 AM LeoNerd: I have -some- but it's my usual go-to chip for smallish devices, so... I've been using quite a lot of them in various designs
10:14 AM qu1j0t3: i meant the comparators lol
10:14 AM qu1j0t3: yeah ATtiny is pretty useful
10:14 AM LeoNerd: 1616 in particular.. 20pin chip, usually quite sufficient IOs for basically any project. Tiny little 3mm square package
10:16 AM * qu1j0t3 nods
10:16 AM qu1j0t3: well now i can't buy one to try !
10:23 AM qu1j0t3: yup, ZERO https://www.digikey.ca/en/products/filter/embedded-microcontrollers/685?s=N4IgTCBcDaIIYBcEEsB2BPAjANhyAugL5A
10:39 AM jmiehe: why have I never heard about t16xx yet? which versions of AVR-GCC and AVRDUDE do they need to work?
10:44 AM LeoNerd: tiny1616 is .. hrm.. 2, 3 years old now?
10:45 AM LeoNerd: I've no idea what version of avr-gcc you need; the one in debian has worked for a while
10:45 AM LeoNerd: as to avrdude - out of luck. It's a UPDI chip and nobody seems to have written any UPDI support in avrdude yet
10:45 AM LeoNerd: I use avr-updi; which I wrote: https://metacpan.org/dist/Device-AVR-UPDI/view/bin/avr-updi
10:48 AM jmiehe: What editor/IDE do you use with that, if any?
10:48 AM LeoNerd: I write all my code in nvim
10:58 AM jmiehe: Any luck in using the UPDI debugger with open source software?
10:59 AM LeoNerd: No, it isn't documented yet
10:59 AM LeoNerd: I intend to do some RE on it... one day
10:59 AM LeoNerd: In the meantime, honestly I find just debug to serial console / LED or whatever works just fine
11:02 AM jmiehe: yeah, but it'd be neat nonetheless :)
11:04 AM LeoNerd: Would it?
11:04 AM LeoNerd: If I were to document how it works, would you be willing to write the tooling?
11:21 AM jmiehe: I've nothing on my track record yet in tooling development, but I mean, doesn't hurt to begin. Can't allocate much time for it in the next half year or so though.
11:21 AM jmiehe: tl;dr "why not, but realistically no"
11:22 AM LeoNerd: I just don't have any concept of what such a tool would behave like. It's not something I've used
11:22 AM LeoNerd: so I really wouldn't want to make a tool I wouldn't use
11:22 AM LeoNerd: ((Dear internet community of software developers: Please Please Please take note of this concept))
11:23 AM jmiehe: *fights windmills* :D
11:40 AM jmiehe: on that note ~ if I don't see myself putting much time into a tool like that, maybe I'm not the one who _should_ be starting in the first place.
11:41 AM LeoNerd: :)
11:42 AM jmiehe: so anyway, imma head out for now. Nice to have joined just in time to discover an awesome chip :)
01:53 PM vmt: i honestly don't think there's much value in a tiny/mega debugger
02:10 PM LeoNerd: Yah
02:46 PM ME: allright, maxim confirmed my samples order
02:56 PM ME: hmm, I spoke too soon
02:57 PM ME: Please note: We are unable to process your request until we receive this completed form. If not received within 7 days, your sample order may be cancelled.
02:57 PM ME: In addition to that, could you also send me a photocopy of your ID?
02:57 PM ME: I can haz cheezburger?
03:18 PM specing_ is now known as specing
05:10 PM polprog: ME: did you have to mark the checkbox that says you won't build ICBMs with the samples?
05:31 PM ME: polprog: yup
05:31 PM ME: Buyer certifies that we will not use the product(s): in relation to military end uses as defined in the EAR; for nuclear, biological
05:31 PM ME: or chemical weapons, or the missile systems that deliver them
07:04 PM polprog: they spoil all the fun
07:12 PM vmt: ME: is there a specific reason for using the dallas/maxim chip?
07:15 PM vmt: well, rather that *specific* chip
07:27 PM rue_mohr: can you get the chip?
