02:14 PM Piecat: Hey guys, having a strange issue here.
02:14 PM Piecat: I can connect to my ATMega328P-PU using AVRdude, but I can't get ATMega328P-AU to respond
02:15 PM Piecat: -c usbtiny -p m328p -F
02:17 PM cehteh: what crystal/fuses
02:17 PM cehteh: volrage, fequency
02:19 PM cehteh: how connected? all VCC's GND's connected?
02:19 PM Piecat: Just as a sanity check, I tried it on 2 arduinos I had. It can sense the -PU variant. So it isn't the cable or programmer. The -AU variant doesn't detect, so I know it isn't just my prototype board
02:20 PM cehteh: i dont have in mind what the differences between these two are
02:20 PM cehteh: sometime ago atmel/microchip removed the support for full-swing oscillators
02:21 PM cehteh: not alls VCC's / GND's connected or wrong fused can also be a problem
02:24 PM Piecat: Hmm. Yeah I can't even get to set fuses
02:26 PM cehteh: where did you source them? excess industry stock, preprogrammed with odd fuse settings?
02:27 PM cehteh: and of course double check everything else, cabling and all tihngs connected as i saied before
02:27 PM cehteh: when you have a scope you may measure if the crystall is swinging
02:33 PM Piecat: Digikey. I would be shocked if they were counterfiet
02:33 PM Piecat: Could be a strange fuse programmed, though.
02:36 PM cehteh: digikey should ship original/default ones
02:36 PM cehteh: what voltage/frequency
02:42 PM cehteh: https://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic=61254.0 btw
02:42 PM cehteh: Did you account for the fact that the pin numbers are different between DIP and SMD packages? For example, pin 1 on the DIP is PC6 while pin 1 on the TQFP package is PD3.
02:44 PM Piecat: I used the KiCad footprint,
02:44 PM Piecat: If it were just a footprint or pins issue I'd expect it to work on the sparkfun arduino
02:44 PM cehteh: double check against datasheet
02:44 PM Piecat: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/13975
02:47 PM cehteh: datasheet
03:42 PM twnqx: well, the difference is that the -AU is the 32A package, 32lead TQFP, while the -PU is the 28P3 package, 28lead SPDIP
03:47 PM twnqx: in order to access those you'll need external clock running (usually crystal)
07:13 PM samantaz_ is now known as samantaz
07:55 PM Piecat: Asking again, has anyone had trouble with the -AU variant of ATMega328P? Weird fuse settings?
07:55 PM Piecat: I can clearly see the -PU variant on various designs with AVRdude. I cannot find -AU on my own designs or a Red board.
08:20 PM rue_mohr: not familar with au
08:46 PM vmt: rue_mohr: can you finally tell me why you whisper in all of your videos
08:47 PM vmt: it adds a touch of the bizarre granted, but since you act like a borderline schizophrenic a lot of the times i'm not sure it's a good thing
09:28 PM rue_mohr: vmt you wont get it
09:28 PM rue_mohr: not you
09:29 PM rue_mohr: if nothing else you cant understand about me, dont try that one
09:32 PM vmt: tell me!
11:08 PM day_ is now known as day
