12:57 AM rue_bed2: 32 is a lot!
09:00 AM christner_ is now known as christner
09:38 AM gruetze_ is now known as gruetzkopf
11:35 AM TechChristoph: everyone soldered ftdichips?
11:35 AM TechChristoph: must be very hard in some case.
11:37 AM cehteh_: as long its not BGA it should be fine
11:38 AM cehteh_: one trick is to solder them with excess solder and then use desoldering wick to clean the contacts up and remvoe and unintentional bridges
11:38 AM cehteh_: soldering paste and hot air is prolly better,, ymmv :D
11:39 AM LeoNerd: I do all my SMD stuff with hot-air
11:41 AM cehteh_: i dont have hotair
11:41 AM LeoNerd: You should get one... they're very handy
11:41 AM cehteh_: would prolly be a good investment eventually
11:41 AM LeoNerd: I use mine for heatshrink too
11:41 AM cehteh_: well i could borrow from a friend
11:41 AM cehteh_: or outsource productuioon to you :D
11:42 AM cehteh_: i dont make boards except for some prototypes and once only things actually
11:43 AM cehteh_: if that changes, then getting a hotair soldering station would be worthwhile they are not overly expensive anymore
11:44 AM LeoNerd: Even the simple cheap 858D. Though.. they have -terrible- grounding. Read.. er.. none >.>
11:44 AM LeoNerd: So don't expect it to pass a PAT test
11:45 AM * cehteh_ wonders if one could make a complete cnc mill pcb production thingy, with tool changer .. engraving bit for making the pcb, some automate paste applier, vacuum pick'n place and finally hotair
11:45 AM cehteh_: hook in some reels, and copper base material, press start and walk away :D
11:45 AM LeoNerd: Hotair doesn't need to be precise.. I just blat it over the entire board
11:46 AM cehteh_: yeah
11:46 AM cehteh_: well some coarse precision and control would be nice, preheating in circular movements and then going over the components
11:47 AM cehteh_: at least when you want to use really small smd shit you dont want to blow it from the board :D
11:48 AM cehteh_: anyway, i dont tihnk i really want to produce pcb's, design, prototype maybe, but if it comes that far that they shall go into real production then better let someone else do that
12:51 PM vmt: lighters are for heatshrink!
01:19 PM twnqx: haven't found hard FTDI chips, nor neded the "use excess solder and wick it up" trick yet
01:19 PM twnqx: and the finest pitch i soldered was .4mm
01:21 PM twnqx: LeoNerd: do you use hotair + solder stencil?
01:21 PM twnqx: that's something i haven't tried yet, but wanted to try for some time
01:27 PM TechChristoph: got them on my /var/log/auth.log
01:27 PM TechChristoph: https://censys.io/
01:27 PM TechChristoph: realy confused
01:28 PM TechChristoph: cehteh_, how much costs hot-air?
01:29 PM cehteh_: there are reasonable okish china-bombs for 100-200Eur or so
01:30 PM cehteh_: https://www.banggood.com/search/hot-air-solder.html even cheaper
01:30 PM TechChristoph: and solid ones ?
01:31 PM TechChristoph: 1000?
01:31 PM cehteh_: google for reviews
01:31 PM cehteh_: some china ones got pretty good reviews
01:31 PM cehteh_: you are not ggoing to mass produce things in a production line with them
01:32 PM TechChristoph: i never buy from china
01:32 PM TechChristoph: never ever
01:32 PM cehteh_: hah
01:32 PM TechChristoph: nope
01:33 PM cehteh_: i have reasonable good experience with that, even with customer support and replacement, needs some email chatter and patience but works
01:33 PM TechChristoph: i don't have patience
01:33 PM TechChristoph: in this case
01:33 PM TechChristoph: if i pay it should work
01:33 PM TechChristoph: thats how it :-)
01:34 PM cehteh_: you are swiss you swim im money right? :)
01:34 PM TechChristoph: no
01:34 PM TechChristoph: shit work is shit work
01:34 PM TechChristoph: :)
01:34 PM TechChristoph: we love perfection
01:35 PM cehteh_: https://www.reichelt.de/loetstation-entloetstation-i-con-vario-4-360-w-4-kanaele-esd-i-con-v4000aicxv-p247100.html
01:35 PM TechChristoph: so better wo pay the money that is worth for
01:35 PM cehteh_: ah that one doesnt even have hot air :)
01:35 PM TechChristoph: so employes get e better loan
01:36 PM TechChristoph: and maybe a better life too
01:36 PM TechChristoph: :-)
01:36 PM cehteh_: well often enough overprized european products are made in china and only rebranded here
01:36 PM TechChristoph: yeah thats sad
01:37 PM cehteh_: and then its overprized only for the boss his new porsche, doesnt mean that the employees or chinese workers get more
01:38 PM TechChristoph: oh well we can do something
01:38 PM TechChristoph: mainly i buy local products
01:38 PM cehteh_: so i try to find out whats a good bang for buck thing, possibly even with positive customer support indication because that might be at least some indication that things are handled well
01:39 PM TechChristoph: cehteh_, yeah i go along with you in this prospective
01:39 PM cehteh_: i try local products when i really need quality, but for something i need once a year and i can replace when its broken its not worth to pay 5-10x as much
01:39 PM cehteh_: my one bicycle is pretty much made in germany/eu :D
01:40 PM TechChristoph: well i sometimes think of the people who build all these products too :-)
01:41 PM TechChristoph: if you don't put love in what you make
01:41 PM cehteh_: chinsese are happy to get paied 50cent per hours ,, do you really want to take that from them buying elsewhere !!!111 :D
01:42 PM cehteh_: esp kids dont need so much money and they work so much they dont have the time to spend it anyway
01:45 PM cehteh_: well seriously this system is fucked up and you cant fix it by throwing your money into another direction because thats only a homeopathic dose
01:47 PM LeoNerd: twnqx: I do, mostly... Though lately on some of the boards that don't have super-small QFN parts, I've taken to just applying paste directly to pads
08:50 PM m4t: anyone know of an adapter that routes a bigger chip (e.g. tqfp atmega1284p) to dip-28 with compatible pinout? so it could be plugged into a socketed uno or similar?
08:51 PM m4t: solder adapter, not solderless with a zif socket
08:56 PM m4t: i kinda doubt it exists :)
08:57 PM m4t: it'd be something like this https://waterpigs.co.uk/notes/4rUHN0/ but smaller
09:30 PM m4t: https://web.archive.org/web/20150403161705/http://www.hobbytronics.co.uk/arduino/arduino-uno-pro too big tho
09:40 PM m4t: https://www.hackster.io/temucin/arduino-uno-with-8-times-more-memory-f164b6
09:43 PM m4t: oh http://www.rasmicro.com/Sleeping_Beauty/
11:22 PM day_ is now known as day
11:51 PM TechChristoph: good morning
11:51 PM TechChristoph: have a nice day
