03:54 AM twnqx: turq: the .hex files are program images for writing to the chip
02:14 PM SimoneNascivera: Hi everyone haa anyone experienced some instability problem with atmega8a at high flash usage?
02:16 PM Fuchikoma: As in program storage?
02:17 PM SimoneNascivera: Yes
02:17 PM Fuchikoma: Huh
02:18 PM Fuchikoma: I can't think of any reason why using all of the program memory space would cause an issue
02:18 PM SimoneNascivera: If I use less then 7300 bytes, the atmega8a boots everytime while more then that it behaves strangly, booting one in 3/4 times
02:18 PM SimoneNascivera: I totally agree with you
02:18 PM Fuchikoma: Sounds like a problem with the memory itself then. Bad block
02:19 PM Fuchikoma: Has it been reprogrammed a gajillion times?
02:19 PM SimoneNascivera: You mean in the IC itself?
02:19 PM SimoneNascivera: Not so many
02:19 PM SimoneNascivera: 250-300 time I suppose
02:19 PM SimoneNascivera: *times
02:19 PM Fuchikoma: Nowhere near the limit then
02:20 PM Fuchikoma: It's not impossible that the actual silicon of the memory structure is faulty above ~7300 bytes
02:21 PM Fuchikoma: (You'd be extremely unlucky if that were the case, but it's not impossible)
02:21 PM SimoneNascivera: so you suggest to try to change IC? I may have some of them left on the shelves
02:21 PM Fuchikoma: Yeah worth a shot
02:21 PM SimoneNascivera: Otherwise I really don't know what to do
02:22 PM Fuchikoma: If replacing the chip fixes it, you can maybe do a thing with the faulty one to test the memory or something
02:22 PM SimoneNascivera: I mean I'm pretty sure it's not a simple programming error, since I turn on a led immediately after the stack pointer initialization
02:23 PM Fuchikoma: Though part of programming is verifying so...
02:23 PM SimoneNascivera: I'm sorry.... I meant that I'm hoping it's not a scripting error...
02:24 PM Fuchikoma: That's also entirely possible
02:25 PM Fuchikoma: If it's easy enough to swap out the chip, that would eliminate the hardware as the problem at least
02:25 PM SimoneNascivera: Sure
02:26 PM SimoneNascivera: Okok thank you I'll try tomorrow
02:26 PM SimoneNascivera: thank you for your time
