#avr Calendar

01:09 PM vmt: KimK: consider leaving #avrs
01:21 PM gsi__ is now known as gsi_
01:52 PM KimK: vmt: I've only been in any AVR-related channels for a day or so. I'm willing to listen. From your comment and the topic, is there some kind of channel war going on? How long has that been happening?
01:56 PM polprog: long story short, there is
01:58 PM KimK: Is there a post or blog on it? To catch me up? Or does this channel have a robot that can tell me?
01:58 PM polprog: i dont think so
02:00 PM KimK: OK. I'm just a noob lurking for AVR info and occasional help, I'll try to stay neutral.
02:00 PM KimK: Is this channel usually pretty quiet?
02:01 PM polprog: not as quiet as some other IRC channels those days, but yes
02:04 PM cehteh: i wont really say its a war, more ignorance and sandbox kids playing :D
02:04 PM polprog: :D
02:04 PM polprog: the adults just sit in both channels
02:05 PM cehteh: anyway, your r welcome to idle here, ask questions, wait patiently for answers, or answer questions as you see fit
02:05 PM KimK: Ha, OK, that sounds like a plan.
02:05 PM cehteh: polprog: i think i am older than you .. and i am already in too many channels
02:06 PM polprog: cehteh: you sure are older
02:06 PM polprog: right now im in 50-odd channels...
02:06 PM polprog: im running out of keys on my keyboard to switch between them
02:06 PM cehteh: and what i dislike most if someone tries to divert an already small free software community, but hey i dont care i just stay here
02:06 PM polprog: KimK: idle here or there, its about the comminuty not the channel name
02:07 PM cehteh: i dont think the other channels is much more active than this one or?
02:07 PM cehteh: but at least this one is the one and only original one :) lol
02:09 PM KimK: I'm in many channels too, so I don't mind adding #avr #avr32 #avrs (although so far #avr32 seems pretty dead.)
02:10 PM cehteh: yeah i think the avr32 has not much open source community/fandom
02:11 PM cehteh: did you even used them?
02:12 PM KimK: What, is it closed source stuff there? What, Windows?
02:12 PM cehteh: nah it just happens that its a pretty smal niche
02:12 PM KimK: Oh, OK.
02:12 PM cehteh: people who want 32bit go for arm/cortex or mips or x86
02:13 PM cehteh: or i hope risc-v will lift soon
02:14 PM cehteh: iirc arm32 is supported by gcc and linux but i never heared from anyone using it
02:14 PM cehteh: even xmegas are kindof exception, few people use them here, but not soo much
02:15 PM polprog: avr32 is extremely exotic
02:15 PM polprog: there is a netbsd port of it
02:16 PM cehteh: i dont see any argument that makes me want to use avr32, its not cheap its not common it doesnt offer features other dont have
02:16 PM cehteh: and i really thing a strong community is on of the biggiest advantages nowadays
02:21 PM KimK: Thanks for explaining about the AVR32. I think I'll be using the ATmega16, we'll see.
02:22 PM polprog: thats true
02:22 PM polprog: atmegas are pretty good, even in 32 bit times
02:22 PM cehteh: as good as 8bit controlers can be :D
02:23 PM cehteh: ok some 150MHz atmega would be nice sometimes :)
02:23 PM polprog: :D
02:24 PM cehteh: w/ maxed out flash and sram
02:24 PM polprog: external PC133 and boot rom interface?
02:24 PM polprog: PCI 2.2 compliant
02:24 PM cehteh: no
02:24 PM polprog: with MII
02:24 PM polprog: joking
02:24 PM polprog: thats what the PowerPC soc im trying to make use of has
02:24 PM cehteh: but with 150mhz and lots of sram you wont even worry about more expensive ops, 32/64bit math
02:24 PM polprog: yeah
05:05 PM vmt: 150 mhz avr? just go for a cm-4/7
05:06 PM vmt: -f for sp fpu
