05:52 AM horohoro: hello everyone
05:56 AM polprog: hello
06:55 AM vmt: rue_bed: well you would be insane (well, you kind of are) to rewrite *motif*
06:55 AM vmt: so how's your widget lib coming together?
07:29 AM polprog: lol
08:59 AM rue_mohr: vmt, funny, while in the shower this morning I was just pondering rewriting motif
09:00 AM rue_mohr: not from scratch, but a litteral crawl and rewrite
09:00 AM rue_mohr: as long as I dont cut too deep at once, I should be able to trim out the crap
09:34 AM timemage: rue_mohr, you have some motivation for doing this?
10:26 AM jancoow: cehteh: hey
10:27 AM jancoow: cehteh: I just got my new pixel phone with 240fps slowmotion :P And I just made a short video in my room with a 35 euro led dimmer (3 channel) which I'm using for a ledstrip in my room. And it's flickering like hell :P
10:28 AM jancoow: But the led dimmer with the software pwm doesn't have that issue. Because It should be currently running at 224hz :D
10:29 AM jancoow: you still see a tiny bit of flickering but not as bad as the current led dimmer haha
10:29 AM HighInBC: the other way would be very high frequency
10:29 AM jancoow: ?
10:29 AM HighInBC: like megahertz pwn frequency won't appear for flicker at all
10:30 AM HighInBC: possibly even high kilohertz
10:30 AM HighInBC: pwm
10:32 AM jancoow: https://photos.app.goo.gl/eqzyiBx7GamfhEbKA
10:33 AM jancoow: https://photos.app.goo.gl/9pwuTUNNdcoyPVbSA xD
11:18 AM cehteh: leds are pretty fast, but i dont know if that goes into mhz range with cable capacitance and all
11:19 AM cehteh: would also be pretty nasty noise
01:57 PM samantaz_ is now known as samantaz
03:11 PM vmt: rue_mohr: i really don't understand why you'd want to constrain yourself by whatever design of motif, given you're after a widget library
03:11 PM vmt: but hey that's foss for you
03:12 PM vmt: alternating steps of rewriting and forking ad infinitum
03:12 PM polprog: its not ad infinitum, you reach TempleOS at some point
03:33 PM vmt: you know, if it actually did, i'd consider that a huge improvement to the current situation
03:35 PM vmt: apart from web, all the build systems are a prime example of foss quality
03:42 PM vmt: you have a build system A, which you know, actually builds. Then you have configurator B which sets up A, C that sets up B, D that sets up C, E that sets up D
03:42 PM vmt: throw in the mix some ad-hoc testing shit written in perl or whatever, and some build configurators for those
04:16 PM polprog: just the fact that gnu make uses $(var) and bsd make uses ${var} is enough to give me a headache...
04:16 PM polprog: and, would you guess, they are incompatile.
04:17 PM polprog: fortunately most big project come with their own tools so that i can build netbsd on linux, cause it first makes its own makefile
04:18 PM polprog: on the other hand, 40 years of development does cause differences between forks
07:10 PM rue_mohr: vmt, thats part of what I'd been thinking, if I'm gonna rewrite a library why not rewrite gtk?
08:16 PM vmt: you are completely missing the mark
08:16 PM vmt: why rewrite any library, ...?
08:16 PM vmt: write something that you need. not something that covers 10 million bordercases of how *someone* *somewhere* *might* want to use it
