01:12 AM nuxil: morning
01:16 AM nuxil: OS discussion?
02:17 AM tpw_rules: s/windows/macos/
03:15 AM polprog: s/macos/\*BSD/
03:15 AM polprog: in facy
03:16 AM polprog: fact*
03:16 AM polprog: you can just install BSD on everything and forget it
03:16 AM polprog: __attribute__(("14yearold")) os wars lol
03:19 AM nuxil: so if i install bsd and forget it.. isnt that waste of space :p
03:20 AM polprog: i mean... i did physically loose one raspi i had
03:21 AM nuxil: getting senile at your young age?
03:22 AM nuxil: they are not so small. how you loose PI.
03:22 AM polprog: id like to know that myself
03:23 AM polprog: i know i had bought 4 in total
03:23 AM polprog: i have 3.
03:23 AM polprog: go figure
03:23 AM nuxil: i should get a new one aswell
03:24 AM polprog: i still got the square corners model B
03:24 AM polprog: 2 usb ports
03:24 AM nuxil: i want one i can install https://octoprint.org/ on
03:24 AM polprog: some 3d printing stuff?
03:24 AM nuxil: yea.
03:24 AM polprog: weve just got a toner printer from my aunt
03:25 AM nuxil: :)
03:25 AM polprog: she was moving out and wanted to throw it away
03:25 AM nuxil: now go make pcb's :D
03:25 AM polprog: also a VHS and a usb capture dongle
03:25 AM polprog: haha true
03:25 AM nuxil: just ask if she has a iron to give you aswell :D
03:27 AM nuxil: i experimented a bit with tonertransfere. for me i got best reult mixing cold transfere with hottransfere. "using acetone/ethanol" then apply heat and pressure with a iron :)
03:28 AM nuxil: but i finally gotten my transparent A4 sheet so i can start using the photoresist method which i prefere.
03:28 AM polprog: acetone and ethanol. hmm
03:28 AM nuxil: yea. a mixture
03:29 AM polprog: from what i remember several people said that my copper clad wasnt clean enough
03:29 AM polprog: stuff didnt want to stick properly
03:29 AM nuxil: this is cold transfere method http://www.instructables.com/id/Heatless-cold-Toner-Transfer-for-PCB-Making/
03:30 AM nuxil: yea its super important to have a clean surface
03:31 AM nuxil: dont use paper to clean it with as it will leave off micro fibers. use a "microfiber cloth", dip it in pure alcohole and wash it properly
03:31 AM nuxil: and use latex or vinyl glows. dont get your finger fat on it :D
03:31 AM polprog: i first used an abrasive agent (ajax) and then rinsed it and cleaned with spirit. i think i used paper tho
03:31 AM polprog: haha. always
03:34 AM nuxil: you can use paper. but it must be of quality. not toilet/kitchen paper.
03:35 AM polprog: i think my problem was bad paper for the printout as well
03:35 AM polprog: i didnt have a toner one so i was ordering the prints in a print shop
03:36 AM polprog: i think ill just buy some glossy paper and forget it
03:36 AM nuxil: nah. i use normal paper aswell. nothing special about it. no glossy or anything fancy. normal a4 sheets.
03:36 AM nuxil: but it might be your toner.
03:36 AM polprog: need to try that
03:36 AM polprog: i dont know what toner they used
03:36 AM polprog: there are so many factors to it
03:36 AM nuxil: try to a double print or up the quality so more toner is used
03:37 AM nuxil: yea
03:37 AM polprog: yeah, i will give that printer a try
03:38 AM nuxil: it took me a hole day to get theprinter settings, acetone/ethanol mixure. amount of time before heat, time with heat :p
03:38 AM nuxil: right
03:38 AM polprog: its just a PITA
03:39 AM nuxil: yea it was.
03:40 AM nuxil: thats why i prefere the photoresist mode. its not so PITA. just print your transparant sheets. expose the pcb with uv. wash, etch & wash it drill hole and done :).
03:41 AM nuxil: *mode-> methode
03:41 AM polprog: its less of a PITA
03:41 AM polprog: but still. esp drilling
03:41 AM polprog: c mon , its not the 90's
03:41 AM nuxil: drilling just suck anyway
03:41 AM polprog: thats the reason ill be putting my mixer's front panel on the PCB as well
03:42 AM polprog: so its already drilled and printed
03:43 AM polprog: ha
03:44 AM nuxil: one cool thing you can do with toner transfere., is to make silkscreen on your print. :) after you etched the stuff away. you redo the same the toner transfere again with component markings.
03:44 AM nuxil: but dont etch this time
03:44 AM nuxil: you get a black silkscreen :)
03:45 AM polprog: yeah, i know
03:45 AM Thrashbarg: heh works on aluminium too. I did it for a synth I made
03:45 AM Thrashbarg: for the front panel
03:45 AM polprog: or if you have a color toner printer you can get colorful prints
03:45 AM nuxil: nice
03:46 AM polprog: i need to get some stuff for a grill tomorrow
03:47 AM polprog: and then i'll see if they sent me the case blueprints
03:47 AM polprog: and continue routing the PCB
03:48 AM nuxil: autorouting :p
03:59 AM polprog: on analog board?
04:00 AM * polprog slaps nuxil with a long vacuum tube
04:00 AM polprog: ah and apropos the operating systems
04:00 AM polprog: i noticed that my beard appeared when i installed netbsd on my old compaq
04:01 AM Thrashbarg: heh
04:23 AM MrFahrenheit: ugh, tracking says my printer had to be repackaged due to "light damage" in germany
04:23 AM MrFahrenheit: I hope I don't end up paying $150 in taxes and then it's schrott
04:24 AM polprog: damn
04:41 AM nuxil: MrFahrenheit, ups. what is defined as "light dammage" ?
04:43 AM MrFahrenheit: no idea, hoping it's just a packaging failure but even then, they must have handled it stellarly for that to have happened
04:44 AM nuxil: im still working on my box :\
04:44 AM nuxil: takes forever
04:45 AM MrFahrenheit: this is how it's packaged, I guess https://youtu.be/v3X29z3ybZ8?t=20
04:46 AM nuxil: im, just done with the wiering and pullys on my box :) https://gyazo.com/0395fd3d15c9ee99fefa1ee3e38ebeed https://gyazo.com/3d16bf3b6ba07222b0b5f33ebbb90c02
04:47 AM nuxil: still tonz left
04:47 AM nuxil: like drill holes for lights etc etc.
04:48 AM polprog: nice
04:48 AM polprog: whats that?
04:48 AM nuxil: i dont know the english word. its "barduna" for my Z profiles on my 3d printer
04:49 AM nuxil: http://ytrehardanger.info/images/CIMG2070%20800x600.jpg
04:49 AM nuxil: barduna
04:49 AM nuxil: thats what we call it
04:49 AM MrFahrenheit: an antenna?
04:49 AM nuxil: no the wires
04:49 AM MrFahrenheit: :P
04:50 AM nuxil: the method uses to secure the anenna :p
04:50 AM nuxil: *antenna
04:50 AM nuxil: :p
04:52 AM MrFahrenheit: it's called a guy
04:53 AM MrFahrenheit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy-wire
04:55 AM polprog: til
04:55 AM nuxil: well. as i said. i didnt know the english word. we just call it bardun/barduna
04:56 AM MrFahrenheit: didn't know either, was pretty hard to google
04:58 AM polprog: polish. Odciąg.
04:58 AM nuxil: yea. bardun just translates to rope in google. and rope we call "tau/trosse" :p
05:04 AM nuxil: MrFahrenheit, btw. yesterday i got my mgn12 linear bearing i'll be using for the Y axis on my 3d printer. gonna get tid of this pesky wheel system they use on the Y axis on my printer.
05:04 AM MrFahrenheit: wheel system? what, with a belt or?

05:07 AM MrFahrenheit: nuxil, you should quit and rejoin, it's still going
05:07 AM nuxil: wft
05:07 AM nuxil: sorry
05:07 AM nuxil: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1983/8517/products/IMG_1730_large.jpg?v=1518617836
05:07 AM nuxil: that one
05:07 AM nuxil: you see the wheels
05:08 AM nuxil: damn.
05:08 AM nuxil: well. you can decode that and you get a picture.
05:08 AM MrFahrenheit: the wheels are actually a pretty good design
05:09 AM MrFahrenheit: but yeah, that rail is probably better
05:09 AM nuxil: no i agree to disagree
05:09 AM nuxil: its wobbly
05:09 AM nuxil: compared to a rail
05:09 AM MrFahrenheit: did you tighten them down
05:09 AM nuxil: ofc
05:10 AM MrFahrenheit: a double supported rail is probably the best, but overkill for a 3d printer
05:10 AM nuxil: ther are special nuts. eccentric nut you use. but wobbly bed on tarantula is a common issue.
05:10 AM nuxil: indeed
05:11 AM nuxil: same with all micro switches. i think 90% of the people had to resolder them :p
05:14 AM nuxil: but i like fiddeling around. i dont like buying stuff that comes ready out of the box "in terms of computers/electronics", i have always built and modded my own computers and such.. so why not try to do the same with a 3d printer :)
05:18 AM MrFahrenheit: now, should I do stuff today, or waste more time with a game from 2001
05:19 AM nuxil: go see hoe nig you can solder a blob
05:19 AM nuxil: *how big
05:20 AM MrFahrenheit: I thought this was /r/suddenlyracist
05:20 AM nuxil: lol
05:21 AM nuxil: anywho. im off doing something for a while.
06:03 AM polprog: isopropyl alcohol - abbreviated IPA

06:45 AM MrFahrenheit: you know, I could live on gorgonzola and raffaello filling
06:45 AM MrFahrenheit: it wouldn't be a long life, but it would be a worthy one
06:47 AM polprog: always wanted to try herrings and nutella
06:47 AM polprog: wait no, blue cheese and nutella
06:47 AM polprog: and i think i did once
06:47 AM polprog: and it was pretty cool
06:48 AM MrFahrenheit: I don't want to try that
06:48 AM MrFahrenheit: I don't want to try that at all
06:50 AM polprog: but gorgonzola and rafaello is ok?
06:50 AM polprog: :P
06:50 AM MrFahrenheit: I didn't say eat them together
06:51 AM MrFahrenheit: it's like "sex, drugs and rock and roll", you don't... uh... bad example
06:51 AM polprog: lol
07:37 AM Nephen: hi
07:38 AM Nephen: I have a problem with interruptions. Problem and code are there https://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic=542751.0
07:38 AM Nephen: Thanks by advance :)
08:23 AM nuxil: Nephen, you got a crystal right ?
08:23 AM nuxil: and div8 fuse disabled?
08:24 AM Nephen: I guess, I'm using stock arduino board, so there must be a 16mhz crystal
08:26 AM nuxil: oh arduino
08:26 AM nuxil: https://gyazo.com/1364e079d4a46e5187e87c173bfa6bab :D
08:26 AM nuxil: use prescaler 256 and OCRnx 70 :and you get a pretty close frequency to 440hz
08:27 AM Nephen: thanks, though my goal is not only to get a 440 hz signal
08:27 AM nuxil: ok.
08:27 AM Nephen: in fact I'm trying to build a synthesiser
08:28 AM Nephen: So I'd need the interrupt to trigger at least at 40khz, and then generate my waveform there
08:28 AM Nephen: frequency will change dynamically, bu adjusting the phase increment
08:36 AM jragon is now known as sneakydragon
09:03 AM nuxil: Nephen, dds ?
09:08 AM Nephen: nuxil: direct digital synthesis? What do you mean? I should use an external module?
09:08 AM nuxil: i meant. are you makeing dds with avr
09:10 AM Nephen: nuxil: I generate the waveform by incrementing the phase in the interrupt. Don't know it that's what you were asking about
09:11 AM nuxil: i was asking if youre making a direct digital synt using avr. i ask this because it works on the same prinsiple. "adjust the phase "accumulatro"
09:11 AM Nephen: nuxil: my synthesis is in software, I don't use hardware for that. Only to trigger the interrupt
09:12 AM nuxil: emm. a dds can be sortware written in avr :p
09:12 AM nuxil: i have used several project involving dds.
09:13 AM Nephen: nuxil: is it possible to have several oscillators that way? And to hard sync them, too?
09:14 AM nuxil: the stuff i did only had 1 output so no need to use multiple oscilators and syncing..
09:15 AM Nephen: nuxil: I see. My stuff would have at least two osc, and one resetting the phase of another
09:27 AM nuxil: https://pastebin.com/E5Gv4gtE
09:28 AM nuxil: hmm shouldnt you calulate OCR1A = 16000000 / SAMPLERATE; like ocr1a = f_cpu / prescalor / timer_freq_hz
09:32 AM Nephen: nuxil: yes, that's what I do. But it seems that at sample rates of more than 20khz, code that run in the interrupt takes a lot of time, and reduce the rate at which the interrupt runs
09:33 AM Nephen: nuxil: there's not a lot of code though, just what I need for the square wave... maybe it's the limitation of the atmega328p after all...
09:34 AM nuxil: i had issue the other day on my atiny13 with interrupts beeing messed up. it turned out that using .. COM0A instead of WGM01 was my issue.
09:34 AM nuxil: on the TCCR0A register
09:35 AM Nephen: nuxil: on my code, I set WGM12
09:35 AM nuxil: yea
09:36 AM Nephen: nuxil: at low sample rates, all goes well.
09:37 AM Nephen: nuxil: that's when i try to push past 16khz of sample rate, that is fails
09:37 AM Nephen: nuxil: maybe I should try the dds route as you suggested
09:38 AM nuxil: here to get you started :p https://scienceprog.com/avr-dds-signal-generator-v20/ :D
09:38 AM nuxil: it used ASM tho.
09:38 AM nuxil: *uses
09:38 AM Nephen: nuxil: thanks :) it will be usefull
09:39 AM nuxil: i hade my own version of that
09:39 AM nuxil: *made
09:40 AM nuxil: nice and good waveforms. https://gyazo.com/6d3ef60755e9010ae8e4362c0f80eb72
09:41 AM nuxil: Nephen, there is also this you might want to check out. https://github.com/blakelivingston/avr_tinytune
09:41 AM nuxil: that code "a tad" modified is in my doorbell now playing bennyhill :D
09:49 AM Nephen: nuxil: thanks a lot !
09:49 AM nuxil: np
09:49 AM Nephen: nuxil: tinytune is made with dds too?
09:51 AM nuxil: i havent digged to much around in that code. but its more like fast pwm that changes the prescalor/ocrxn when needed.
09:53 AM nuxil: i just modified it a bit so it will hold in a relay to play the song the cut the power :p
09:54 AM Nephen: nuxil: ok. anyway, I'll look into it too, that can be quite helpful. Thanks ;)
10:01 AM nuxil: i belive there is someone in this channel that has made a synth. but i dont recall who of them it was. Thrashbarg, nohitzzz or some other guys who hang a lot around here but isnt online
10:01 AM Thrashbarg: o/
10:01 AM nuxil: :D
10:05 AM Nephen: nuxil: thanks for the info :) That was my first time here, but I think i'll come back
10:05 AM Thrashbarg: http://kaput.hopto.org/~thrashbarg/DSPsynthDAC.c
10:06 AM Thrashbarg: that's one I wrote ages ago, uses an external DAC to sound a little better...
10:07 AM Nephen: Thrashbarg: Thanks a lot too ! That will be super nice to see how you did with the interrupts
10:07 AM Thrashbarg: ok :)
10:14 AM nuxil: Nephen, https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-arduino-board-37230928.html is it one you got ?
10:14 AM Nephen: nuxil: yes that's the one
10:26 AM polprog: https://puu.sh/A7GPJ/3204c6f5d9.jpg
10:36 AM nuxil: new pc built from salvaged parts?
10:37 AM polprog: no, old PC in an even older case
10:47 AM MrFahrenheit: and a ps/2 kb?
10:50 AM polprog: yeah
10:50 AM polprog: even better, a din to ps/2 converter
11:00 AM rue_mohr: good keyboards were made with ps2
11:00 AM rue_mohr: just consumable crap
11:01 AM rue_mohr: 1Gb ethernet keyboard, whats what everyone wants now
11:01 AM rue_mohr: cause, they dont want bandwidth restrictions to their keyboard
11:01 AM polprog: keyboard over tcp/ip
11:02 AM rue_mohr: /good keyboards were made with ps2/good keybaords weren't made with ps2/
11:02 AM polprog: ??
11:02 AM rue_mohr: dropped a not
11:02 AM rue_mohr: good keyboards were made with din, thats the only real connector
11:03 AM polprog: :P
11:03 AM antto: ps2 is din too
11:03 AM rue_mohr: even the 1G keyboards are becomming unfavorable tho, people want 10G
11:03 AM polprog: ps2, what's that, a connector for ants?
11:04 AM Thrashbarg: that's PS/2 dammit!
11:04 AM Thrashbarg: half a personal system....
11:04 AM polprog: i have two users on it so its half per person, duh
11:04 AM Thrashbarg: hehe
11:05 AM rue_mohr: ethernet keyboads should work, microsofts pnp system searches everything now
11:05 AM Thrashbarg: Ethernet keyboards? Dear lord...
11:05 AM rue_mohr: "a keyboard was plugged into your network, installing drivers!"
11:05 AM Thrashbarg: heh
11:06 AM polprog: press any key to abort
11:06 AM rue_mohr: "New device found: Wifi mouse. Installing drivers..."
11:07 AM polprog: fun story
11:07 AM polprog: this mobo has some weird ethernet chipset that windows didnt have drivers for
11:07 AM rue_mohr: "Todays mandatory update includes: Russian Hacker, NSA update, Candidcam*, install now or bug you again in 5 minutes?"
11:07 AM Thrashbarg: Linux borked 4.15.0-2-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.15.11-1 (2018-03-20) x86_64 GNU/Linux
11:08 AM polprog: so when i decided to run cable to it (it was on wifi before) it turned out it cant find ethernet drivers
11:08 AM polprog: of course it runs on linux flawlessly
11:08 AM rue_mohr: Thrashbarg, how so?
11:08 AM Thrashbarg: yup
11:08 AM Thrashbarg: rue_mohr: hmm?
11:09 AM rue_mohr: I woke up to a blooming nuclear fire radiation this morning, WTF?
11:09 AM rue_mohr: yea, I'm being bombarded by radiation from a nuclear fire
11:10 AM Thrashbarg: Woke up, got outta bed, dragged the comb across my head.
11:10 AM rue_mohr: polprog, you need some velcro cable organizers
11:10 AM * Thrashbarg needs an everything organiser ._.
11:10 AM polprog: good point
11:10 AM rue_mohr: it looks way too easy to make a change, no straps to have to remove first
11:11 AM polprog: Thrashbarg: velcro strap to organize your life ;_;
11:11 AM rue_mohr: i got some from china back in the day (when things were cheap from there)
11:11 AM rue_mohr: I remember $1/day s
11:11 AM rue_mohr: every day I'd buy a $1 free shipping item
11:12 AM rue_mohr: I got 3 cuda cards, I'm excited to try some cuda programming
11:13 AM polprog: https://puu.sh/A7Iff/d4f4adb42c.png
11:13 AM rue_mohr: if I'm not intersted in using them for video, I'm wondering if I should get one of those pcie splitters
11:13 AM polprog: nice and cool when idle
11:17 AM * Tom_L congratulates rue_mohr on a successful tutorial evening
11:17 AM rue_mohr: from what I understand, a pcie card will work if its only got 1 channel
11:17 AM rue_mohr: Tom_L, yea
11:17 AM rue_mohr: I need to figure out how to set her up with an assembler for avr
11:17 AM Tom_L: nothing burned, nothing stomped on, nothing thrown
11:17 AM rue_mohr: yea, it was freaking civil
11:18 AM Tom_L: the avr-gcc tools would work wouldn't they?
11:18 AM rue_mohr: should
11:18 AM Tom_L: iirc that's what i used
11:18 AM Tom_L: doesn't it just recognize the file extension?
11:18 AM rue_mohr: I dont know if any of that was installed with avr studio that she put in
11:19 AM Tom_L: so just get avr-gcc
11:19 AM rue_mohr: it should come with avr-asm
11:19 AM rue_mohr: like you say its just kinda wrapper
11:19 AM Tom_L: that's what i used
11:20 AM rue_mohr: THE CROWD IS KINDA QUIET TODAY ISN'T IT?
11:20 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/avr/studio/winavr341/
11:20 AM Tom_L: see what that is
11:20 AM Tom_L: i forget
11:20 AM rue_mohr: YOU WOULD THINK THAT ANYONE USING WINDOWS TO PROGRAM AVRS MIGHT SAY SOMETHING
11:20 AM Tom_L: i just did silly
11:21 AM rue_mohr: maybe everyone just uses studio
11:21 AM * rue_mohr shudders
11:21 AM Tom_L: i forgot what that file was but i think that's it
11:21 AM Tom_L: probably from atmel
11:21 AM rue_mohr: I dont want to put studio on her machine..
11:21 AM Tom_L: IT IS NOT STUDIO
11:21 AM rue_mohr: ... ok
11:21 AM Tom_L: IT IS AVR-GCC
11:22 AM rue_mohr: and its filed under studio?
11:22 AM Tom_L: probably i forget
11:22 AM rue_mohr: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/avr/studio/winavr341/
11:22 AM Tom_L: god only knows where microchip put it
11:22 AM rue_mohr: ^^^^^^
11:22 AM rue_mohr: "studio"
11:22 AM Tom_L: right
11:22 AM Tom_L: back up a step and you'll find several studio files
11:22 AM rue_mohr: oh god, I gotta read
11:22 AM rue_mohr: its your site... hah
11:22 AM Tom_L: un related
11:22 AM rue_mohr: :)
11:23 AM Tom_L: yeah, it's a trusted site :D
11:23 AM Tom_L: fixed the blower on the car
11:24 AM Tom_L: now to attack the AC compressor
11:24 AM Tom_L: clutch
11:24 AM Tom_L: odd they both failed at once
11:24 AM rue_mohr: mmm
11:24 AM Tom_L: probably a mosfet on the blower thing but...
11:25 AM Tom_L: they quit using resistor coils in sake of technology
11:25 AM rue_mohr: Tom_L, the power thing with the dragon and the libusb thing sure made that painfull tho
11:25 AM Tom_L: libusb is worse
11:26 AM Tom_L: make sure she never installs studio or it will get worse
11:26 AM Tom_L: jungo takes over
11:27 AM Tom_L: i wonder what the gap on the magnetic clutch is supposed to be on this thing
11:27 AM rue_mohr: she did years ago remember?
11:27 AM rue_mohr: so we had to fight off jungo
11:27 AM Tom_L: but you fixed it so leave it alone
11:27 AM rue_mohr: yep
11:27 AM rue_mohr: next step is to be able to assmeble code
11:27 AM rue_mohr: it would be nice if she was more C compatible
11:29 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/avr/atmega32U4/asm/
11:29 AM Tom_L: see what that build.bat is
11:29 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/avr/atmega32U4/asm/rs232test/
11:29 AM rue_mohr: in a bit, I ahve to get ready for student
11:29 AM Tom_L: another one, probably the same
11:30 AM Tom_L: might give you a headstart
11:30 AM polprog: did someone say dragon on windows
11:30 AM polprog: there was some libusb tomfoolery with it
11:30 AM Tom_L: naw you're dreamin
11:30 AM polprog: rue_mohr got a student? what are you teaching?
11:31 AM Tom_L: he's not a learner
11:31 AM Tom_L: rue's got his work cut out
11:31 AM Tom_L: he lacks the knack
11:32 AM polprog: hm?
11:32 AM Tom_L: you should find rue's disertation on 'knack' sometime
11:35 AM polprog: i just got trolled.. www.ruemohr.org != ruemohr.org . heh. nice dns trick
11:36 AM Tom_L: is the same guy

01:09 PM Casper: ... and if I knew that a sas backplane is sata compatible... I would have bought the sas backplane version instead...
01:09 PM polprog: what do you do with all those disks? RAID?
01:09 PM Casper: but sata was relativelly new, and there was a serious lack of proper information
01:10 PM polprog: lol CPU temp jumped 10 degrees from ide to full load, im stress testing it
