12:16 AM rue_: ... what?
12:19 AM rue_: 800c?
12:19 AM rue_: its glowing white...
12:33 AM kl0wn: what
12:34 AM rue_shop3: when I'm doing aluminum, with the 1600c flames hitting it, its glowing white
12:48 AM nuxil: woot?
12:49 AM nuxil: 1600deg C on aliminuum. thats almost 3x as hot as the melting point.
12:50 AM nuxil: mixing metals and making custom alloy ? :p
01:07 AM rue_shop3: FIRE
01:07 AM rue_shop3: the FIRE is that hot
01:08 AM rue_shop3: sorry, apparently about 2000c
03:43 AM Jartza: nuxil: ummh, I have 4 3D-printers...
03:43 AM nuxil: o.O
03:43 AM nuxil: gonna sell one ? :p
03:44 AM Jartza: heh, not really
03:44 AM nuxil: darn :p
03:44 AM Jartza: from time to time I need 3D-prints for customers and when I do, they usually want them pretty fast
03:44 AM Jartza: and 3D-printing is not fast, so it's better to print with multiple printers churning at the same time :)
03:45 AM nuxil: yea.
03:45 AM nuxil: i want one. but i want many other things aswell :p need to win in lotto 1st to afford it all :D
03:47 AM nuxil: so. i was just surfing random arduino youtube videos. and found a cool project one dude did.
03:47 AM nuxil: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3dBox-LB7I
03:55 AM nohit: haha
03:55 AM nohit: nice
03:56 AM nuxil: :)
04:03 AM Jartza: nuxil: https://i.imgur.com/68c8xsI.jpg
04:04 AM nuxil: hehe. nice
04:04 AM Jartza: left: nxp/freescale kinetis devboards, center: nucleo devboards, right: avr/arduino
04:05 AM Jartza: I'm still gonna print one of those holders for "misc" boards
04:08 AM nuxil: why pink :p
04:08 AM Jartza: haha, I'm just using leftover filaments I have
04:08 AM Jartza: from customer projects
04:08 AM Jartza: in one of those there's 2 colors because pink ran out mid-print
04:09 AM Jartza: I want to get rid of those rolls that have like tiny bit of filament in them
04:11 AM nuxil: also nice ruler you got there
04:11 AM Jartza: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1I99GS6KyHNodrYUVJoxGZy8Tkyvwb-Px/view?usp=sharing
04:11 AM Jartza: ahh, got that digikey ruler from digikey as a gift
04:11 AM Jartza: :)
04:11 AM Jartza: I don't know why, it just came in big envelope which said "Jari Tulilahti - You rule!"
04:11 AM nuxil: haha
04:12 AM nuxil: thats nice :D
04:14 AM nuxil: i want a proper ruler in that size.. that starts 0 right on the edge. not like start 0 x millimeter in on the ruler which i got now, useless
04:16 AM nuxil: i dont know if that one does tho. but its much simpler mesuring heights when they do. so you dont need to look at the ruler and mesure the offset with a 2nd ruler :p
04:21 AM Jartza: nuxil: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sP4fAJ6T5YdMCBn5XYZj96pO0k3cwnXq/view
04:21 AM * nuxil wants
04:22 AM nuxil: was looking at https://www.ebay.com/itm/3PCS-19-170mm-PCB-Reference-Ruler-PCB-Packaging-Units-5V-for-Arduino-Engineers/372039346078?epid=2254245233&hash=item569f45e79e:g:FigAAOSwpDBZioNE
04:22 AM nuxil: but dosent start 0 at the edge
04:22 AM Jartza: https://www.digikey.fi/product-detail/en/digi-key-electronics/PCB-RULER-12INCH/PCB-RULER-ND/5767550
04:25 AM nuxil: i'll get that aswell next time i order chips from them.
04:29 AM rue_shop3: they sent me a digikey ruler
04:30 AM rue_shop3: I felt like I was part of the club
04:30 AM nuxil: you guys must be ordering alot from them :)
04:30 AM rue_shop3: nope
04:31 AM rue_shop3: havn't ordered much of anything in years, I dont think, no, I got a chip a while back...
04:31 AM nuxil: damn. i guess unlucky as usual. i ordred stuff there aswell and never got a ruler :p
04:59 AM Jartza: looks like my colleague got digikey ruler as well, but his envelope just said "thanks for being with us", not "you rule" :)
04:59 AM Jartza: maybe there was a random mesage
04:59 AM Jartza: +s
05:03 AM Jartza: but I think I've ordered several thousands of euros worth of shit there
05:03 AM nuxil: o.O
05:05 AM Jartza: well, customer stuff & tagsu & prototyping stuff for our company
05:05 AM Jartza: not just me :D
05:30 AM dan3wik is now known as dan2wik
05:30 AM wondiws: https://github.com/smaffer/vgax/blob/master/VGAX.cpp
05:31 AM wondiws: why do I get a linker error when I comment out the asm bit at line 90?
05:31 AM wondiws: "relocation truncated to fit"
05:46 AM rue_bed: why didn't you just put all that into an asm file?
05:47 AM wondiws: rue_bed, it's not my code ;)
06:18 AM nuxil: wondiws, LDFLAGS ?
06:18 AM wondiws: nuxil, what do you mean?
06:18 AM wondiws: I didn't change those
06:18 AM nuxil: did you set it -lm ?
06:19 AM nuxil: or try, -ic -lm
06:20 AM wondiws: nuxil, -lc I guess?
06:20 AM nuxil: -lc yes.
06:20 AM nuxil: sorry
06:20 AM nuxil: idk. do you have any section stuff defined in your make file ?
06:21 AM wondiws: nuxil, -lc -lm doesn't make a difference
06:21 AM wondiws: nuxil, mind you, it does compile with that asm section in it, when I comment it out, I get the error
06:21 AM wondiws: nothing special defined in the makefile
07:26 AM polprog: borax, yeah, i knew i needed that. but nowhere to get it in the middle of a forest on polish countryside
07:26 AM polprog: my grandfather was a foundry engineer.
07:27 AM polprog: he did the automatic control side of things but he knows this and tht
07:27 AM polprog: that*
10:15 AM unregisterednick: hi
10:16 AM unregisterednick: rue_bed: rue_shop4 rue_ your bed is in your shop right? ;>
12:59 PM Casper: unregisterednick: I think it's more the inverse, his shop is in his bed
01:24 PM rue_bed: no I'm not up yet
01:41 PM rue_shop3: cnc machine finished.. hmmmm
01:45 PM polprog: damn, im trying to read about opamps and filters in the art of electronics. but the maths is atrocious.
01:45 PM polprog: guess ill tinker for now and leave that for some uni long time later
01:52 PM Casper: some love to use hightly complicated formula...
01:53 PM Casper: you know that gain formula? the 1+R1/R2 thing? Seen one with like 15 operations in the formula...
01:53 PM Casper: just to get the extra 0.00001% precision...
01:53 PM Casper: you know, the precision you lose even with precision resistors?
02:06 PM polprog: well
02:07 PM polprog: i used a noninverting amplifier. replaced the resistor between - and ground with a cap
02:08 PM polprog: math shows its a high pass filter, gain goes up with frequency (G = R*C*2*pi*f)
02:08 PM polprog: breadboard shows it low passes the PWM signal
02:08 PM polprog: i am lost
02:08 PM polprog: but later on, in the chapter on active filters there is nothing close to the thing i made.
02:12 PM polprog: after all i can make a simple RC lowpass and use a voltage follower on the output
02:12 PM polprog: no big deal.
02:12 PM polprog: but i wanna know and understand how to calculate all that stuff
02:30 PM rue_shop3: you dont get it with precision resistors, just a bunch of carefully ranged trim pots
02:41 PM -!- #avr mode set to +o by ChanServ
02:42 PM nuxil: polprog, https://www.electronics-tutorials.ws/filter/filter_5.html some reading for you, basic stuff :)
02:43 PM polprog: yeah i saw that
02:45 PM nuxil: that one too :D http://www.engr.usask.ca/classes/EE/323/notes_2005/chapter4.pdf
02:47 PM polprog: ok, i see i will have to work on my maths
02:47 PM nuxil: :D
02:53 PM nuxil: its been a long long time since i messed around with filters. but its involves lots of tweeking to get it a good one.
02:54 PM polprog: yeah, caps' frequency response, parasitics
02:54 PM polprog: at least thats what i know from dave's video on decoupling
02:54 PM nuxil: aslo iirc. at low frequencys your better off using a inductor
02:54 PM polprog: i have even less inductors than caps
02:54 PM polprog: but a gyrator could solve that
02:54 PM nuxil: wind one yourself :p
02:55 PM polprog: worst, i dont have anything that can measure inductance
02:55 PM nuxil: yes you do
02:55 PM nuxil: you have your scope
02:55 PM polprog: technically you are right
02:55 PM polprog: but i dont have a signal gen either. well i could write one on an avr tho
02:56 PM polprog: but today is this kind of day i cant do anything well
02:56 PM polprog: not even a bloody homework excercise
02:57 PM nuxil: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhS8m38ef0Y
02:57 PM nuxil: see how simple it is.
02:57 PM polprog: ham radio hadle nick, pencil on graph paper block. i feel this is gonna be a good video
02:58 PM nuxil: :)
02:58 PM -!- #avr mode set to +b by rue_shop3
02:58 PM polprog: not going to school tomorrow... cool i guess
02:58 PM polprog: rue_shop3: netmasks work as well?
02:58 PM rue_shop3: supposedly
03:00 PM polprog: nuxil: thats actually very very smart way to do it
03:00 PM nuxil: yea.
03:01 PM unregisterednick: [20:38] <rue_shop3> cnc machine finished.. hmmmm - its aliiive?
03:03 PM unregisterednick: [21:28] <rue_shop3> you dont get it with precision resistors, just a bunch of carefully ranged trim pots- i hate all trimpots
03:03 PM unregisterednick: laser trim the metal film and done
03:03 PM polprog: sure let me get my cnc laser
03:03 PM polprog: :^)
03:04 PM nuxil: rue_shop3, lets see pictures of your finished cnc ;)
03:05 PM unregisterednick: <polprog> worst, i dont have anything that can measure inductance - L = N² * A * u0 * ur / l | u0 = 4pi * 10-7 Vs/Am
03:06 PM unregisterednick: [22:01] <polprog> sure let me get my cnc laser - what do you want that a 1% resistor cant do?
03:06 PM polprog: the problem is that all indutors i have are pulled off scrap boards. so i have no idea about the ferrite paremeters
03:06 PM nuxil: thats why you use the method in the video, and mark them for future use :)
03:06 PM polprog: my remark on cnc lasers was about your remark on laser trimming film
03:06 PM polprog: nuxil: thats what i wanna do ;)
03:08 PM unregisterednick: polprog: you know that ur depends on H right?
03:08 PM polprog: i dont know whats ur
03:08 PM unregisterednick: relative permeability
03:09 PM polprog: ??
03:09 PM cevans3326: hi everyone, quick question about RS422 if you don't mind
03:09 PM unregisterednick: ferrites get saturated
03:09 PM cevans3326: I'm trying to set up two masters and one slave
03:09 PM cevans3326: which I know you're kinda not allowed to do with RS422
03:10 PM polprog: https://www.omega.co.uk/techref/das/images/rs422.gif ?
03:10 PM unregisterednick: polprog: meaning that you will not achieve any precise inductance ever on a wide load range using a ferrite core
03:10 PM cevans3326: but it sort of works when I tried it, but my slave device starts drawing 20 mA more from its VCC which I'm kinda scared about
03:10 PM unregisterednick: but air core works too.
03:11 PM cevans3326: yeah like that but I want two Hosts and one Device
03:11 PM unregisterednick: polprog: also if the coil is not a torus then it will alter other nearby coils' magnetic field by mutual coupling
03:11 PM rue_shop3: me? no
03:11 PM rue_shop3: the cnc will be later
03:12 PM rue_shop3: I'm throwing togethor the next 3d printer
03:13 PM cevans3326: anyway, if anyone knows how to rig up two masters one slave, thanks very much
03:13 PM nuxil: unregisterednick, coilds are weird.
03:13 PM nuxil: *coils
03:13 PM unregisterednick: rue_shop3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-QQTL3SvtY
03:14 PM unregisterednick: :)
03:14 PM polprog: cevans3326: see that gif i linked, slave on the left, masters on the right
03:14 PM nuxil: did you know that. if you drag a magnet up/down in and hook two multimeters to it. at same points. and have 1 multimeter on the right side and one of the left side. one will show negative voltage.
03:14 PM unregisterednick: polprog: you will never throw out any hdds if you watch this
03:15 PM polprog: unregisterednick: i never throw out any hdds
03:16 PM cevans3326: polprog: but isn't the "host" the master? maybe I am confused
03:16 PM polprog: cevans3326: host is master, device is slave. in that pic
03:16 PM polprog: its simple. masters tx goes to slaves rx.
03:17 PM polprog: more masters just go to the same pins on slave, so you have master1 and master2's TX on slave's RX
03:17 PM cevans3326: but you think it'll work if I have two hosts and one device?
03:17 PM cevans3326: ah ok
03:17 PM polprog: which might or might now work depending on how master drives his tx lines
03:21 PM nuxil: unregisterednick, when i said coils are weird. take a look at walter lewin :)
03:21 PM nuxil: 49 min into the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGQbA2jwkWI&index=17&list=PLyQSN7X0ro2314mKyUiOILaOC2hk6Pc3j
03:26 PM unregisterednick: nuxil: that is a boost/stepup/flyback converter
03:26 PM nuxil: heh
03:26 PM unregisterednick: coils actually store magnetic energy
03:27 PM unregisterednick: and they do give it back
03:27 PM nuxil: i think you missed the point
03:27 PM unregisterednick: i dant think
03:28 PM polprog: i think youd have to watch the whole thing. so far ive seen two scope screens. i dont even know where are the probes connected to what
03:28 PM polprog: :P
03:28 PM unregisterednick: dont have time for that
03:29 PM nuxil: unregisterednick, one voltmeter gives negative. the other positve. both connected to same points on the coil. normaly you would think it should read the same on both since its conectd to same points. but it dosent.
03:30 PM polprog: somewhow the first thing id do is to put them on the same side and measure again
03:30 PM nuxil: polprog, he explains whats going on in some later video.
03:30 PM nuxil: you need to think about it 1st :p
03:31 PM unregisterednick: i actually have things ta think about :)
03:31 PM unregisterednick: o
03:31 PM polprog: im too tired to think about this now
03:31 PM polprog: ive been doing maths for the past 4 hours
03:31 PM nuxil: :D
03:32 PM unregisterednick: nuxil: i was thinking about things in the last 18 years too
03:33 PM unregisterednick: nuxil: now i am making things
03:33 PM nuxil: what is that ?
03:38 PM polprog: look at this little guy, waiting for me to stand up from the chair to claim it <3 https://puu.sh/zlEKJ/69dbadcb84.jpg
03:38 PM nuxil: hes wahing his balls. then comes and lick you in the face :p
03:39 PM polprog: fortunately he doesnt lick me in the face
03:39 PM polprog: he just comes at night to walk on me while i sleep
03:39 PM polprog: or sometimes when its cold he crawls under the blanket
03:39 PM Emil: heh
03:40 PM Emil: cats are the best
03:40 PM Emil: Hmm
03:40 PM Emil: I got a ac to 24V supply
03:40 PM Emil: Beefy (probably toroid trandsformer) sealed in a black metal box with heatsink
03:41 PM polprog: make a solder bridge and turn it into a 240v supply
03:41 PM Emil: I'll make a controllable linear power supply out of it
03:41 PM Emil: eh?
03:41 PM polprog: or make a jacobs ladder and make it a 2400v supply :P
03:41 PM Emil: it's 220V AC -> 24V DC
03:41 PM nuxil: you get around ~34 Dc
03:41 PM Emil: nuxil: it's regulated
03:41 PM Emil: there's diodes and caps inside probably
03:42 PM Emil: I'll have to measure it
03:42 PM nuxil: hum thought you said it was AC.
03:42 PM Emil: nuxil: yeah
03:42 PM nuxil: if you rectify that it becomes ~34 V
03:42 PM Emil: >I got a ac to 24V supply
03:42 PM Emil: nuxil: bro do you even average?
03:43 PM nuxil: i mean.. 24 ac = 24*sqr(2) -> 34 V dc.
03:43 PM Emil: Yeah
03:43 PM Emil: that's common sense
03:43 PM Emil: Anycase
03:44 PM Emil: a linear bench power supply with some neat features
03:44 PM Emil: I'll make the case out of laser cut plywood
03:44 PM nuxil: yes. get one of thouse modules i got :D
03:44 PM Emil: hm?
03:44 PM nuxil: 1 sec
03:45 PM nuxil: https://i.gyazo.com/a88302157466888c2b23f6f6dadb06fa.jpg https://i.gyazo.com/8951cc8c43a37aba3e2f072c1e29a746.jpg
03:45 PM nuxil: cam quality is shit tho
03:45 PM Emil: did you diy it?
03:46 PM nuxil: yea
03:46 PM Emil: Is that one of those aliexpress power supplies?
03:46 PM polprog: looks like one
03:46 PM nuxil: i bough mine of ebay
03:46 PM Emil: yeah ebay also
03:46 PM Emil: Which version and for how much?
03:46 PM nuxil: only the module. not the torroid trafo :p
03:46 PM polprog: chinktronix
03:46 PM Emil: hehe
03:46 PM nuxil: it was 20 bucks
03:46 PM Emil: not too bad
03:46 PM polprog: i have a free 240->12 toroid
03:46 PM Emil: I bet the noise is horrible
03:46 PM Emil: though
03:46 PM polprog: might do something with it as well
03:46 PM Emil: On the output
03:47 PM nuxil: yup.
03:47 PM Emil: That's why linear is kawaii
03:47 PM Emil: it's horribly inefficient
03:47 PM polprog: but quier
03:47 PM Emil: but it's smooth as fuck
03:47 PM polprog: quiet*
03:47 PM polprog: yeah
03:47 PM Emil: and super easy to do
03:47 PM nuxil: yea. not much noise on linear. but they put out some head
03:47 PM Emil: yup
03:47 PM Emil: Basically everything you are not using ;)
03:48 PM polprog: you can always do adjustable SMPS tht goes to a linear with an output voltge lower by 1-2 V
03:48 PM nuxil: i like that these modules shows watt aswell
03:48 PM Emil: polprog: does't remove the noise though
03:48 PM Emil: or only a little bit
03:48 PM polprog: caps here and there. good cmrr parts
03:48 PM nuxil: + you can set a cut off on amp or watt
03:48 PM polprog: i think it could work
03:50 PM Emil: Basically it will have
03:50 PM Emil: of course a display and knobs and buttons
03:50 PM Emil: but also a serial interface
03:50 PM Emil: and wifi interface
03:51 PM polprog: last thing i need on wifi is a power supply ;P
03:51 PM Emil: speak for yourself :D
03:51 PM nuxil: like. why do you need that ?
03:51 PM polprog: okay, ipv6 is huge.... but cmon
03:51 PM Emil: because then I can easily continuously measure and track everything on the device
03:52 PM Emil: like power consumption
03:52 PM Emil: current
03:52 PM Emil: voltage
03:52 PM Emil: and so on
03:52 PM Emil: and show them in real time
03:52 PM Emil: on a browser page
03:52 PM Emil: it's super easy to do user interfaces
03:52 PM nuxil: esp8266 or whatever its called.
03:52 PM Emil: yeah I'll probably use that
03:53 PM polprog: it should be telnet... go old school
03:53 PM polprog: ;)
03:53 PM Emil: >telnet
03:53 PM Emil: like the fuck it will :D
03:53 PM polprog: what
03:53 PM polprog: do you have any confidential data exchanging between your psu and the host ;P?
03:53 PM Emil: bro
03:54 PM Emil: you think I'll let you control a power supply without authentication and secrecy?
03:54 PM Emil: think again
03:54 PM polprog: ./explots/powersupply.sh
03:54 PM polprog: exploits*
03:54 PM Emil: It's like
03:54 PM Emil: how to burn down your house 101
03:55 PM polprog: lol
03:55 PM Emil: sorry
03:55 PM nuxil: :D
03:55 PM Emil: how to have your house burned down 101
03:55 PM polprog: brb searching for "power supplies" on shodan xD
03:59 PM polprog: that would be hilarious
03:59 PM polprog: get your bench burned down because you left a port open on the firewall
03:59 PM nuxil: lol
04:00 PM Emil: shodan?
04:00 PM polprog: then, on the other hand, what do most scoper run? win CE?
04:00 PM Emil: ah
04:00 PM Emil: that one
04:00 PM Emil: :D
04:00 PM Emil: polprog: shivers
04:00 PM polprog: and they are very often on LAN as well
04:00 PM rue_shop3: one at random, 203g
04:00 PM rue_shop3: wrong channel
04:01 PM polprog: if a bunch of school guys can run Deluxe Ski Jump on one, then surely you can get creative: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBbWHlgkqVU
04:02 PM polprog: im curious how did they kill the main app?
04:02 PM polprog: im sure it couldnt be just ctrl-alt-del
04:03 PM rue_shop3: its windows right? you just load a currupted font on a SD card and put it in...
04:04 PM polprog: are you serious right now?
04:05 PM rue_shop3: no, but I'm probably right
04:05 PM rue_shop3: windows security ya know....
04:05 PM polprog: well, maybe
04:05 PM rue_shop3: thats how they broke into the xbox
04:06 PM polprog: you re kidding
04:06 PM rue_shop3: no
04:06 PM rue_shop3: microsoft dosn't check for buffer overruns
04:06 PM rue_shop3: like, ever.
04:07 PM rue_shop3: if a field is null terminated and always 20 bytes, they will read till the null termination into the fixed 20 byte buffer
04:07 PM rue_shop3: cause why would there be more than 20 bytes in there?
04:07 PM polprog: i kinda want to hook up a keyboard to my rigol (i think it supports it) and just strike alt-f4 or alt-tab, or ctrl-alt-del
04:09 PM rue_shop3: ok, its 2pm
04:09 PM rue_shop3: I should get out of my pajamas and have lunch
04:10 PM polprog: nothing happens. but i should try pluggin in a pendrive with a filename thats just NUL or something like that
04:11 PM rue_shop3: autoexec.bat
04:11 PM rue_shop3: ... I tink
