[05:59:47] <freeble> im having problems with avr
[05:59:48] <LeEarl> yo
[05:59:55] <LeEarl> same peeps different places ;D
[05:59:59] <LeEarl> buh bye
[06:01:19] <freeble> is anyone home???
[06:01:53] <freeble> im having a problem with avr
[06:02:49] <freeble> HELLO
[06:02:54] <freeble> ANYONE?????
[06:13:19] <theg3sh> freeble: great, where question?
[11:47:17] <gorroth> can someone explain to me what arduino provides to people over straight up C programming on the AVRs? i know that they provide a bootloader and a tool to make uploading "sketches" easier, but does it do much more than that? for example, do they have an "arduino pin out" that makes sure things match up on each type of arduino?
[11:47:32] <gorroth> i'm just not sure what major benefit people are getting, aside from not having to put together their own PCB
[11:47:48] <gorroth> (well, i know people can get shields)
[11:47:51] <gorroth> but i hope you know what i mean
[11:55:16] <gorroth> nevermind, i found some site that explained it nicely
[11:55:20] <gorroth> :)
[11:55:51] <gorroth> http://www.quora.com/What-advantages-does-AVR-have-over-Arduino-and-vice-versa, in case you're interested
[12:51:15] <TechIsCool> whats everyone favorite cheap Humidity sensor? Looking at the Silabs SI70xx series
[12:51:40] <LeoNerd> I don't know about "favourite"; I've only used one, an HT22. No idea how good or accurate it is
[12:52:09] <LeoNerd> It's a mildly annoying onewire-ish-type bus thing that isn't Dallas, it's something custom. So it's not that easy ot talk to, as if it was i²c or SPI
[13:06:40] <TechIsCool> Yah I kind of want to go one wire since the distance but I can get the chip for 5 dollars not 20 I have a hard time trying to figure out if I can't build a bom cheaper with a single device than 3
[15:39:47] <Lambda_Aurigae> gorroth, arduino is to a bare avr what windows 3.1 is to dos....a bloated wrapper around a basic tool that allows any tom dick and dweeble the ability to jump in with both feet without knowing how to swim.
[15:40:46] <Lambda_Aurigae> arduino is water wings for microcontrollers.
[16:21:39] <Lambda_Aurigae> you people are not properly entertaining me.
[16:23:03] <Lambda_Aurigae> I'm sitting here in rochester ny airport with nothing to do and all of my chat channels are dead.
[16:56:25] <Roklobsta> i almost feel sorry for you
[16:59:58] <LoRez> Lambda_Aurigae: Where flyin?
[17:03:27] <rue_school> who the hell can compare avr and arduino? thats like comparing a table with a desk
[17:03:39] <rue_school> a table thats got drawrs
[19:35:46] <gorroth> oh my god... don't accidentally let a 9v battery make contact with steel wool and turn away for a second
[19:35:57] <gorroth> suddenly a smoke smell starts, and before you know it, that shit is burning!
[19:36:02] <gorroth> luckily i had my hand on it
[19:41:49] <Mr_Sheesh> I've heard of ppl dropping 9v batts into a garage trash can and getting a nice fire in there; lathe turnings or steel wool in the can. Bad bad bad thing
[19:43:57] <Casper> gorroth: take steel wool, attach to a string, set on fire with the 9V batt, swing it and let it hit the ground
[19:43:59] <Casper> nice firework
[19:45:49] <gorroth> hehehe
[23:57:37] <rue_school> gorroth, yea
