Back
[01:18:25] <rue_more> you can set a timer to toggle a pic
[01:18:29] <rue_more> er pin
[07:37:59] <Tom_itx> http://www.electronicproducts.com/Computer_Systems/Standalone_Mobile/Apple_to_launch_iPhone_6_a_month_early__Some_things_to_know_about_the_new_handset.aspx
[07:50:57] <malinus> Tom_itx, :V
[07:57:10] <Tom_itx> they're just trying to gain market share back
[07:57:56] <Tom_itx> this is much more interesting: http://www.electronicproducts.com/Sensors_and_Transducers/Sensors/Watch_this_super-fast_bionic_arm_catch_objects_on_the_fly.aspx
[08:26:53] <tzanger> lol
[08:27:20] <tzanger> I do not get this trend to "phablets" -- to me the i4/i4s were the perfect phone in terms of physical size and weight
[08:27:38] <tzanger> I like my 5s but every time I pick up a 4 I remember what a phone should feel like
[08:29:49] <Tom_itx> there are those that need a new product every 6 mo
[08:30:02] <Tom_itx> you know the ones that wait in line for it...
[08:31:22] <tzanger> I guess
[08:32:24] <tzanger> I got the 4 right away because of the screen, and I stuck with that phone until the 5S. If Apple's going the same idiotic way that everyone else is going it looks like I'll be sticking with this form factor for a while too
[08:32:52] <Tom_itx> i don't like the larger screen phones
[08:32:57] <Tom_itx> they're getting too bulky
[08:33:17] <tzanger> yep. I find the 5 is a little too tall and it's lighter which is both a blessing and a curse
[08:33:40] <tzanger> now they want to go wider too to compete with the idiotic samsung phones
[08:33:55] <Tom_itx> i went the samsung route as a first one and so far i'm liking it
[08:34:08] <Tom_itx> didn't get the 5 though, it was just too big
[08:34:14] <tzanger> I really, really want to love Android, but I just am not there
[08:34:51] <tzanger> mind you, Apple went and crapped up iOS with the disgusting look of 7, so I'm nonplussed over here in ios land too
[08:35:31] <Tom_itx> i didn't realize apple used alot of samsung parts until that article
[08:37:54] <tzanger> I think they used samsung's RAM/NAND and even fab for their CPU
[08:38:09] <Tom_itx> apparently not anymore
[08:59:05] <megal0maniac> I'm always amused by the fact that Foxconn makes their stuff
[08:59:53] <megal0maniac> Because Foxconn also makes the connectors on my PC's motherboard. And the proprietary serial cables on Cisco routers
[09:01:44] <twnqx> i am always amused when i think of the apple folks i meet every time in shenzhen who complain about foxconns latest issues
[09:02:12] <twnqx> and the austrian guy who has to fix foxconn's PCB manufacturing lines because they can't do shit themselves
[09:02:56] <megal0maniac> Yet they're MASSIVE
[09:03:17] <twnqx> yeah, i passed by their maingate 50+ times already
[09:03:27] <twnqx> same exit as huawei
[09:03:44] <twnqx> actually the label on the highway exit is just "Foxconn / Huawei"
[09:03:55] <twnqx> foxconn. left. huawei, right. :P
[09:05:27] <twnqx> still, without continuous western help the chinese companies couldn't do what they do, which is pretty weird
[09:06:07] <twnqx> s3v3n62mm: that caliber has gotten rarer in .de, i've heard
[09:06:20] <s3v3n62mm> heh
[09:06:39] <s3v3n62mm> for assault rifles yes
[09:06:48] <s3v3n62mm> but machine gun's still use it
[09:06:51] <s3v3n62mm> MG-3
[09:06:56] <twnqx> ah, right
[09:07:00] <s3v3n62mm> which is also mounted on many tanks
[09:07:09] <s3v3n62mm> so ... well
[09:07:16] * twnqx was amused to see MG-3s in saudi arabia
[09:07:27] <s3v3n62mm> wtf hah
[09:07:40] <twnqx> but i saw half of the counter-strike arsenal there :P
[09:07:43] <twnqx> MP5, Aug, ...
[09:07:45] <s3v3n62mm> i dunno if it already happened
[09:08:02] <s3v3n62mm> but saudi arabia wanted to buy 200 leopard 2
[09:08:32] <s3v3n62mm> but well i dont like weapons too much
[09:08:34] <twnqx> i think they even have a license to build the G3
[09:08:49] <s3v3n62mm> g-36
[09:08:56] <twnqx> which was a pretty nice rifle IMHO (god, 20 years already....)
[09:09:41] <s3v3n62mm> the mp5 is built on the concept of g3
[09:10:51] <s3v3n62mm> but well i think we're offtopic haha
[09:12:00] <twnqx> unless you use an AVR to control the bullet flight!
[09:12:49] <s3v3n62mm> well i guess some micro's are used for kinda purposes
[10:41:06] <carp3> Hi, how much current atmega8a consume when reset pin is low ?
[13:00:05] <hjohnson> man these chips are tiny
[13:29:15] <malinus> hjohnson, ?
[13:30:17] <hjohnson> these little TI power converter ICs
[14:37:01] <malinus> I can't work with anything that isn't DIP
[14:37:07] <malinus> I don't have a tip for that
[14:37:14] <malinus> nor the steady hands
[14:53:42] <ivanshmakov> malinus: Personally, I use a somewhat adhesive flux and a pencil or two (wooden, naturally) to put the SMDs to their places on the board. It takes some effort to make ’em stay still when I solder them, though.
[14:54:52] <malinus> ivanshmakov, you still probably have a nice soldering station, and a thin tip?
[14:55:15] <ivanshmakov> malinus: Reasonably thin tip, yes.
[14:56:56] <ivanshmakov> Soldering station is handy, whether DIP or SMT, but a low-power (20 W or so, I think) soldering iron may be fine for down to 0.8 mm spacing.
[15:00:19] <Kev> malinus, it's easy enough with a hot air station and some solderpaste
[16:14:59] <malinus> Kev, it's easy when you have the right equipment and experience, just like, everything ;P?
[16:15:05] <malinus> well most things, at least
[16:15:44] <malinus> I'm still not sure whatever I should invest in a proper ironstation, or a air station
[16:16:00] <malinus> I also want a logic analyzer. The list never ends
[16:16:13] <malinus> At least I've finally got a "proper" meter.
[16:16:58] <Tom_itx> weller, saleae, fluke
[16:17:15] <malinus> that's what the "" are for ;), not one of those, no
[16:17:35] <malinus> still better then the $5 meter I had before ;D
[16:17:40] <malinus> *than
[16:17:48] <Kev> i paid my hot air thingy around 40€, it's ok for what i'm doing with it
[16:18:22] <Kev> i mean sure there's better more expensive stuff out there, but i aint that rich
[16:19:18] <Tom_itx> saleae just came out with some new stuff
[16:19:22] <Tom_itx> looks real nice
[16:19:24] <malinus> Kev, link?
[16:21:22] <Kev> http://www.sainsmart.com/new-atten-at-858d-220v-smd-hot-rework-digital-station-air-solder-blower-gun.html
[16:22:08] <Kev> maybe it's cheaper on AE or ebay but i had a coupon here so i ended up paying a total of ~35€ + my coupon
[16:23:25] <Kev> i can solder tqfp atmega328p's and smd resistors/caps wich is plenty enough for me
[16:25:28] <malinus> I need a similar one
[16:25:54] <malinus> Kev, so you just put some solder paste on the pads, put the chip/smd parts on top, and heat?
[16:28:06] <Kev> yeah, although it even works if you put the solder paste on the leads (after the chip is in place)
[16:32:57] <Kev> if it isn't perfect, as in too much, solder wick and a regular iron, to remove the excess
[16:56:13] <malinus> Kev, do you also have a soldering station?
[16:57:20] <Kev> yeah, bought it at conrad in germany years ago
[17:05:02] <malinus> conrad?
[17:05:08] <malinus> what kind of station is it?
[17:12:25] <Kev> can't find the exact model on their website anymore
[17:47:25] <malinus> Kev, what price range was it?
[20:29:15] <Casper> :D
[20:29:19] <Casper> 2 free led strips
[20:29:47] <Casper> thanks to whoever fucked up at the dx.com factory and put the 36W strips in the 72W package
[20:35:39] <N2TOH> what now?
[20:42:41] <Casper> I ordered 2 72W RGB led strips
[20:43:01] <Casper> then I was a bit deceived by the brightness, so I did some math...
[20:43:09] <Casper> 12V 3A only...
[20:43:12] <Casper> 36W
[20:43:33] <Casper> so I contacted them, eventually they refunded them, so I got them for free
[20:51:38] <N2TOH> ok, so do they really have the 72 Watt units you wanted?
[20:52:54] <N2TOH> oerhaps another day I must go.
[21:03:52] <Casper> for those who wonder... the 72W was 1$ (~11%) more than the 36W, so ordered it... and since it take over a month, I orderd a second set in case I need more
[21:04:15] <Casper> so now I have 2 sets for free :D
